My girls phone appears to have water damage. There is water visible in the camera lens. However, the water indicator sticker is still ok. T-mobile is replacing it under warranty. Before she sends it off she wanted to know if there was any way to get the images she had just taken off the phone. No external SD card. Only internal.
The phone will not boot past the black screen with samsung on it. It is bootlooping. I can get into recovery and thought I would be able to ADB pull the pictures folder but the only way I can get it to show in ADB Devices is to go to the sideload option. But from there all I get is the "error: closed" from any command. My adb and drivers are up to date but I havnt used a samsung phone in a few years.
Is there any way to get to the images stored on the phone before sending it back?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Im guessing the phone is stock running stock recovery? Ya I thnk if ADB is not working you're all out of options.
Not much help now, but in the future set up a drive or dropbox account for your GF that automatically uploads pics to the cloud. That being said, check her google drive/photos ? I know google used to harass me about their option to upload my camera shots to their servers all the time , maybe your girlfriend happened to do that one day?

It's been a while since I've had a skyrocket in my hands (thats what she said) but a friend of mine broke his phones lcd and glass. Phone powers on fine but can't register any touch. I'm fairly competent with modding phones but have never had to do a blind recovery like this. Is there any special way to get anything off the phone? I'd like at least contacts and anything else would be a bonus
were contacts synched, then they should be on their google account
depending on how the phone was setup, boot it up, connect the usb cable and see if windows can see the sdcards.

Most of the contacts were not synced. I haven't found anything in the sd cards for contact files. Was wondering if there's a way to pull a whole image file of the current phone and then Odin it into the reolacement. Am I just being too optimistic?

You won't be able to find them by just copying over your internal or external cards contents to your comp. Looks like they MIGHT be held in data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts.db. If you can get adb set up you might be able to pull that from recovery. You can with a custom recovery even with adb debug turned off. I'm not sure about a stock recovery. Once you pull those I'm sure it would be a matter of just pushing then to the new phone. Either way tell your buddy to backup to google from now on. Good luck.

Use ODIN to flash CWM, then make a backup. You can then either pick it apart with stuff like TiBU or by popping it back onto another Skyrocket.

My Galaxy S3 is completely fried. Verizon is sending me a "new" one. Phone started acting up the past few days and would turn off on me, I would have to take out the battery and put it back in just to start it back up. Yesterday, phone froze and shut off while using it, took the battery out and put it back in... nothing. Couldn't even do a reset.
Is there ANY possible way to recover or save files that were saved on the phone's memory? Pictures and texts are my main thing. I have everything from the SD card of course, however a ton of stuff that I want to save was on the phone memory.
Any advice on how, if at all possible, to recover some of the files?
I tried plugging the charger into the phone without the battery in, and the red LED light came on. I was hoping this meant that only the battery was shot... but tried another battery and still nothing
I have to send the phone to Verizon within 5 days of receiving the "new" one they are sending to me. Should I be concerned about them possibly fixing my phone, and being able to access the files I had saved on the internal phone memory?

Have you tried ADB? I'm not sure if the phone has to be on for that though
Edit: first off, are you rooted? Are you on stock or a custom rom? The stock rom has 2 data backups in place I'm aware of; Verizon Backup Assistant and your Google account. The Google account should restore your contacts and your pictures should have uploaded to Google+. What the Backup Assistant does, I don't know, but I'd assume you can check that by logging into your Verizon Account
Edit: After looking around, the consensus seems to be that you are unfortunately out of luck. I think the steps mentioned above are your only options. Hopefully somebody else will reply with more options/better news, but that's the extent of my knowledge in this area.

Im in a bit of a situation here
It sounds a bit odd, but when making up my electronic stuff, i dug out my old Galaxy S7 and several other phones and i got a bit nostalgic about those times and what i did back then.
So i started charging them up and scrolling to the photos and messages of that time. (im not the type of guy who has everything synced, i mostly start from scratch on a new phone).
However on this device, i was not able to figure out the PIN Code nor the Google Account i was using back then.
So i am now trying to get access to this data by working around the pin code or something like that.
I thought that with the ADB shell i could do this and i found some hints on google about it. However as it looks, you need to have USB debugging enabled to get the shell access. Which of course i haven't and i cannot set as i am not able to get into the system the usual way.
There is no custom recovery or similar flashed on the device. Stock. I might even have wiped it back then but just curious And searching solutions for problems like that is in my nature.
So does anyone know a way how to get there?
I am not interested about the os or something, just my old personal data.
Is unlocking through odin still a thing? and can i get a custom recovery on the device that way WITHOUT loosing the data on the phone? so through that recovery i cloud get a shell to bypass the lockscreen?
Or is there just no solution to that?
I found that there is some SD Card installable flashes to bypass the lockscreen, but here i would first have to buy an SD Card. Since this is just a project i dont want to waste money. Do you guys know if this works for sure? I mean, can i even install this tool without a custom recovery? I have the menu option to apply updates from sd card in the standard recovery, just not sure if this does the trick.
Any other approach?
And yeah, i would probably find it out one day by just trying the codes, but it locks you for 60 minutes after every try now, so this would take ages ^^
So here's the story: My son managed to drop his Mi Mix 3 (once again, for the 500th time?) and the screen shattered, black screen, no digitizer anymore. Of course there is GBs of important data (mainly pictures) that need to be saved. Yes, he uses Google Drive, but for whatever reason he can see only a fraction of his files there. Guess who now has the duty to recover the files?
What I have tried up until now:
- the most obvious: connect phone to Mac and run Android file transfer -> Phone is not in MTP or PTP mode, connecting USB goes per default just into charging mode
- Try to use adb to pull the files-> ADB debugging is not activated
- Try to go into fastboot and boot TWRP from there to recover -> Bootloader is locked, so no booting into TWRP or flashing anything
- Try to connect Phone to my USB-C dockingstation (aka OTG)-> did not work, black screen, no nothing
Besides the screen there seems to be more broken. I tried to call his number, but you just get message from the service provider "not available", as if the phone would be off (his SIM has no PIN, so this is not the problem here)... also checked my router to see if the phone is in my wifi (which it usually is), but also nothing.
Thought about replacing the screen, but seeing the prices for replacement screens and given the fact that there might be more defective parts, not an option anymore.
Looked around for some "special" data recovery programs, but there seems to be only halfworking crap (works not beyond Android 8, needs to have ADB enabled, needs to be rooted, ...).
The only option I currently see is sending the phone to some specialized data recovery company, who claim they could even go as far as desoldering the chips to recover data from there... but this is also horrendously expensive.
Did I already try anything possible? Does somebody here may have another idea what to try? Would appreciate any idea.

No hint because unfortunately there's no work around.
No adb means you can't do much with it.
Your only option is to replace the sceeen, and since you're worried that might be other defective parts your only and safe option is to open the device and take a look your self. If google asistant recognize your voice and if you already added your phone to your teamviewer account, you can start teamviewer quicksupport from phone and connect via teamviewer from your computer and you can use the phone..

So it seems I tried everything one can do without access to some special equipment. My son needs to take the decision if he wants to send the device to a specialised company and put money on them or say good by to the data.

If you watch YouTube videos on how to replace the screen you will see it's easy especially frame. Plus if you order the screen I sent you you can try booting the device by connecting it to the device without installing it. Do not break the warranty seal or remove the protective covering so you can return it to the company if the device doesn't boot by claiming it's defective or it's not for the device you want.

I bought her a new phone and synced her account, but because her Drive storage was full, the last months photos are not synced. I upgraded her to the 100gb plan and let the broken phone sit hoping it would automatically upload the missing photos but it did not.
So at this point my only options are to somehow connect it to my computer and get them, or replace the screen. I'd rather not pay $140 to replace the screen JUST to get a month's worth of photos.
My question is, can I connect the phone to the PC and remotely enter her PIN and then access the files?
I searched online but the two softwares I found say they will wipe data.

You MIGHT be able to get the phone to show up on Windows by mirroring it (either over USB or over Wi-Fi).
My phone isn't broken, but I can easily mirror the phone and unlock the lock screen and view it and control it using free software on Windows.
You can also mount the entire phone onto Windows as a drive letter over Wi-Fi if you have a webdav server on it.
Here are some screenshots of what I do, and I have some tutorials here on how to set that up if you need them.

Good point!
I assumed the op had already enabled USB debugging.
In fact, most people I know (including me) enable Developer Options the instant we get a new phone, and then we enable Mock Location and USB Debugging the second instant, so every Android device I've ever touched has had those two options set as the first things done.
But the user we're both trying to help might not have done that.
If he has any server (FTP, WebDav, SMB, etc.) set up to run at boot time, then he still has a chance (as most people set up one of those also, as far as I know).
If not, this is a lesson to the rest of us to have a failsafe plan if the screen won't work (my personal favorites are Vysor & WebDav).
I'm pretty certain I didn't enable the USB Debugging. Maybe I'll order a cheap screen from eBay just to get it working. Obviously it would be very low quality compared to OEM, but it's a fraction of the price and should get the job done.

Drat.
I am racking my brain trying to figure out a way you can access the phone from your PC (over Wi-Fi or over USB) without interacting with the screen, which I do all day, every day, but I'm already connected over a variety of servers that are either on the phone (e.g., WebDAV) or on Windows via adb (e.g., Vysor, Scrcpy).
I guess the lesson for anyone reading this is set up a wireless server now, as they're free, and they need ZERO software on Android.

I dont know if this will work, and if you need the bootloader unlocked (for the TWRP stuff), but I would try the following.
Try to access the phone in recovery through adb. i think you would of had to have previously authorised adb from your PC to the device, for this to work.
NB: You can run TWRP, without flashing it.
Run adb through TWRP, and try accessing the photos/data. I would guess you wil need to unencrypt the phone first.
Run TWRP, unencrypt the phone and do a backup, and try viewing the contents through 7Zip on your PC

Sounds plausible, but I'm no expert on this topic. Remote-running TWRP sounds very promising. I'm willing to give it a shot if you can instruct me or provide me instructions to do so.

Its not what I would call "remote running". Its running it without flashing it.
The following is a log of my script. I copy the TWRP img file to g:\recovery and then run the following in a command prompt on windows.

Bear in mind that adb can remotely push buttons from the PC to Android over Wi-Fi if you happen to know the pixel location of those buttons on the Android device (but, of course, adb has to work first).
