General Huawei Mate 8 Performance Issues - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've had the Mate 8 for about 4 months now, and have been experiencing a few performance issues:
1. Unresponsive touch screen.
Touch screen will frequently ignore touches. I will often have to double or triple touch.
2. Slow app launching times.
4-5 (sometimes up to 10) second delays when launching apps (IMDB, Boat Browser, Wunderlist). The app will open, but the screen will be blank (white, black or grey) for a few seconds before the app fully loads.
3. Cannot Wake Device.
Occasionally (once a week) the phone will freeze/lock-up while asleep. It heats up and cannot be woken (power button, fingerprint scanner are unresponsive). Force reboot (long press power button) required. This is happening more and more frequently (3 times in last 24 hours). It appears to be some sort of memory leak.
Is anyone else having the same issues? Anyone know of solutions on how to improve/fix any of these issues? Did I get a lemon?
Thanks for any help.

1. Sometimes I have problems to zoom out in Google Maps. Overall touch on Mate 8 is 9.5/10
2. Never. Always fast.
3. It happend 3 times in 6 months that I had to restart my device. Never on Nougat yet.
The symptoms you describe might be caused by a specific app. Try to uninstall crap

Hi,
1. Go to Settings> Smart assistance> and disable the "Touch disable mode" option.
1&2. It sounds like you might have some apps that drain resources. Reboot your device in Safe Mode by holding the Power down button during boot and see if the issues manifest themselves in Safe Mode. If they are still there, you might want to consider servicing your device.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

Systemless supersu was causing similar problems for me.

Have your applied Factory Reset?
Settings>Advance settings>Backup & reset>Factory data reset
This will erase data from the internal storage, including:
1- Your accounts
2- System and app data and settings
3- Installed apps
You can backup before Factory Reset, using Hisuite:
1-
Install HiSuite
1.1- Download HiSuite (http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html)
1.2- Install HiSuite on your Computer
2-
Connect your phone to HiSuite
3-
Go to Backup>

Thanks again for the info guys. I've been hoping to avoid a factory reset.
I have uninstalled a heaps of apps, but am still getting the phone freezing (every second day at the moment). Has anyone got any tips of ways to find which app is causing the system to hang?

Updating to latest firmware may help you as it helped me also!

Still have this problems at Android 7.0?

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the late reply.
I have upgraded the to the latest firmware & factory reset (a while ago now), and the phone's performance has been great ever since. Should have done it sooner.
Thanks again.

Listing Battery optimisation troubles (apps stop, after locking phone)

If you have apps that stop , when your screen goes black, manually (power button), automaticlly ( depends of your sleep settings), or after a notification.
But you have already desactivate the "close after screen locked option" for this app...
Please report here with your firmware and phone version, the apps affected and the one working well for you.
Settings pages Screenshots would be helpfull.
Maybe Honor could do something abou it...
My case :
Honor 8 - FRD-L09 - B389 firmware version (rooted)
I had the same problem with B381. I think, but not absolutely sure, problems started with update from emui 4 to emui 5 (I don't remenber the build version).
So, I have an app "Podcast addict", 80 percent of time when my phone screen goes black 3-4 sec after, the app stop playing, same problem after receiving a notification when listening... It s happening when I lock the screen, manually (power button), automaticlly (going to sleep mode after 2 min, or other setting), or after a notification.
I have desactivate the "close after screen locked option" for this app :
screenshot 1

}
Set to "don't close" in "lock screen cleanup" options :
screenshot 2
When I use the "optimizer" widget, the app stay alive :
screenshot 3
But when I use the "optimize" option in battery settings, my app is killed, and sound stop :
screenshot 4 and 5
When I look at the "Battery settings" ( the gearing, up right), my app isn't in the "power intensive app history", and neither in "history of closed app" :
screenshot 6, 7 and 8
My temporary fix, not allways working : I hit play, manually lock the screen, unlock (fingerprint) and lock manually again... But still, when there is a notification 2-3 seconds after my app stop playing....
:silly::silly:

That might have been the solution all along. Remember I told u that I didn't have an issue like that. It turns out that for me chrome didn't have that option turned on.
Great to see that it is finally working ....

Glad to hear it's working for you. I know how frustrated I was with Pocketcasts closing when the screen locked. It was just luck that I stumbled across this solution. Hopefully this solves your problem completely.

Pixel 2 while powered off gets stuck on charging splash screen - won't turn on

I previously had an issue with this which was solved by re-flashing, unfortunately this isn't helping this time.
So as far as I can tell things work properly with the following exception.
When I power off the phone and leave it in to charge I get stuck on the black and white lighting battery screen. The screen stays on indefinitely. The phone will not power on except for a soft reset which then boots the phone.
For clarity this is what the phone looks like ... it just never turns the screen off.

Only other detail I have to add is that the charge screen works correctly after a flash-all. It is the process of installing twrp and then Magisk that seems to be borking the charge screen.

So this issue popped up for me when Magisk v17.0 came out and v17.1 didn't seem to fix it. Re-flashing did solve the problem but every time I tried to re-root the issue came back. Something about the latest Magisk and my flashing was causing the problem. I tried going back to earlier working versions of Magisk such as 16 and 16.5 but none of them seemed to work, whatever it was it stuck.
I finally ended up flashing the latest Pie along with the latest Magisk and that together allowed me to flash, root and solve the problem. I have not attempted to go back to Oreo.
Hope this helps.

this just happened to me. how do i fix this? I just want the thing to power up. I just got done using it. picked up phone and it was powered off.....
edit: phew. i panicked when i saw this. I just held the power button and it shut off. turned it back on and it booted up....had 2% battery. i guess it was just a low battery this time.
have the same issue too. Only happens when the phone dies after running out of juice. Hard reset reboot and boots up right back up afterwards. Also rooted with magisk 17.1
hard reset? like you lose everything? that sucks. im on 17.3 magisk.

Anyone figure this problem out? I've had this problem for a while now. It was doing this a few months ago then I reflashed magisk and it went away. I did a monthly update a month later and it came back and I've tried a factory reset...reflashing etc.. Nothing helps. It only happens if the phone dies or you power it off. I'm not using TWRP... It's a magisk manager direct install. Thanks!

I've also had this issue since I bought the phone 2nd hand last June. I don't recall if it happen before rooting or not. The only pattern(?) I have noticed is that when I let the phone die completely, theres a chance when I plug it into the charger, it might get stuck on the screen as OP showed. However, as others noted, I think holding down the power button shuts the phone completely down again. Occasionally either I'm doing something wrong or the phone doesn't register the button presses all the time. In past I also tried holding the power button and volume down at the same time but I'm assuming the phone picked it up as me just holding the power button down or maybe that combo also works.

Try to Wipe Cache, if doesn't solve, reset your phone to factory settings, but make a full backup first.
To wipe cache:
1. Power off your phone.
2. Press Power switch while pressing Volume Down button for four seconds.
3. Choose language and tap "Wipe data and cache".
4. Tap "Wipe cache" and reboot.
To perform a hard reset:

Hi, thanks! I did try clearing the cache. But it didn't help even after that.
I also have tried updating the phone to the yesterday's recent system update and still it didn't help.
Will have to hard reset it, but that's a task! if there's any solution without hard reset?
TIA!

I just now tried System wipe from the power + vol up button menu,
Even tried clearing system cache.
Post system wipe all my apps are gone. Except storage data.
Also on reaching the fingerprint setup on first boot the system hung and got caught in a loop of not going back, nor the fingerprint icon did appear instead of the numpad.
I'm not even sure if it's software or hardware now.
The fingerprint animation in customisation menu when clicked says "this feature will be available when fingerprint is on".
Clicking on "Turn on fingerprint" directs to "Security and lockscreen" menu, with no fingerprint option.
Really need some help.

Update: went to utilities to toggle between quick launch button, it asked to set up fingerprint, came an error.
Tried again, and the fingerprint started to register;
After a month of bug, it's resolved by itself. ??* Idk how?

New update, arrowOS has a function which let's you turn off the phone and if you turn it on again fast enough it doesn't asks you for the password, its also fast enough that its almost unnoticeable, for gaming it wouldn't work but for day to day use its great, and let's be honest this phone was never meant to be used gaming anyway.
I also tried rooting and using magisk to install the magisk module of touchscreen by weareravens, I did notice an improvement, but its definitely still there, I think that's it folks, annoying but unsolvable.
I highly recommend installing ArrowOS its infinitely better, you do lose a couple functions like WiFi hotspot, and google drive access from applications( although I'm 70% sure I installed Gapps wrong) and the ability to use some of the banking apps ( I may have lost this when I rooted, I didn't check before and I think I could use them if I really wanted). It may sound like a lot, but honestly those are all the critics I can give, everything else is better on ArrowOS.
I have found a solution that has worked better than any other thing, you need root acces.

3 Short beeps at almost random time on Samsung Android

Hi All,
I'm quite desperate here, and I fear the full wipe of my phone
Context :
- I have a Galaxy Z Flip 4 that has been recently updated to Android 13 + UI5
- No NFC elements near the phone
- Bluetooth linked with my galaxy watch 5 pro
- My issue happens for 2 weeks now
Issue :
Most of the time randomly my phone is making a sound of 3 very close beeps
There is no notification after that, even in the notification history inside settings of the phone
I do not recognize a specific pattern for my issue as it is random but since a few days it is doing it at 6:55 am (happened 2 times)
I don't think it is happening when my phone is in silent mode of DND
What I did :
Remove some app, deactivating NFC, deactivation emergency alerts, removing roaming, removing data on my second sim, removing the notification reminder, reboot the phone in safe mode
Do you know why it is happening ?
Thank you all in advance

@Macadam75 Try the following steps to fix your problem (boots into safe mode and then into a regular boot):
1. Power on your device (if it isn't).
2. Hold the power button.
3. Hold the power symbol for 5 seconds.
4. Click the power symbol.
5. Wait until it is booted.
6. Hold the power button.
7. Double click the power symbol to turn it off as you normally would do.
8. Hold the power button to turn it on.
Kaboom! The issue should be resolved. There was an ongoing discussion on the Samsung Members community and many people fixed it with this.
Hello, Thanks for the feedback
I did the process you shared yesterday, and it did it again today at 6:57 AM and 1-2 hour later
Can you please share the link on the Samsung Members community, so I can check if it is the exact same issue ?

I don't think it is the same issue.
In my side, this is a triple beep with no notification in random time during the day and regularly around 7AM.
I did reboot again in safe mode twice to be sure, but I have no clue why it is happening
Also don't know. Maybe a bit more of research?
