S7 edge exynos drain on calls - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi peeps did some googling and didnt really come up with any result about drain on making phonecalls.
have the s7edge exynos , have since the 1ste day it came out and have it arround 10 months , bought 2 of em , 1 for my wife and 1 for me.
in november and december last we had 2 minor updates but since then i m having real battery drain on making calls.
To know i do call an average of 6 to 7 hours a day but noticing a average drain of 10 to 12 % per hour wich i didnt had before the update, or all other samsung devices i ever had (note 2 and 3, s4, s3 etc)
useally i would loose only 20 to 30% on those 6 to 7 hours.
Further info is i mostly call with a bleutooth earpiece that mostly last for about 5 to 6h , is the bleutooth that is killing my battery ? who knows , but when i look battery stats it says "phonecalls" and on a day like that it says average of 75% battery usage :s , since i my wife has the same s7 edge, same updates etc, and it seemed that she has greater battery life, since her phone always lasted longer than mine, we switched phone for a day , to come to conclussion that it did just the same as mine , maybe a bit better then mine , her phone sat arround 65 to 70% drain on calling for the same amount of time. that could be justified since she doesnt use her phone as intensive as i do.
Dont know what those update were about since i dont follow tech and stuff as much as i used to do , have even derooted all my devices , specially as for the use of paying apps like paypal , mobile banking etc.
could be that those minor updates have do with kernel or stuff , that affect batterly life on calling ? it isnt the 1ste time that sammy brings an update that messes up our phone , like wifi and so on draining out batteries.
So by these are there ppl out there that are having the same drainage as both my s7edges do. looking for the ppl that cmakes calls for 6 to 8h a day
thnx
ps: excuse me if similar tread already excsists than mod you can remove this one

Yes ! You are not allone ...
maybe most people use their device for messaging or gaming ...
I have no idea what that could be ... I have a G935F which I have buyed 2 weeks ago ...
Even in the first calls I noticed that unusual battery drain in calls ...
8-10% per hour and the signal was good...
My device is still stock without root or any other modifications ...

just tested today and posted screenshot with an samsung advisor i think on the samsung page on fb and will post here asswel you will see i have 9h of use of wich i called 7.5h and nothing else , in the past i have rooted all my devices but not the s7edge because of all the mobile paying apps that sometimes dont work because of root and you can see in my stats that calls go for 79% batrery drainage and after 9h i m left with 39% batterly life, imagine if i owuld still play some video clip , play a few games and use mobile data than my handset would flat in 9h or less

ive reverted to an earlier fw from august 2016. will see tommorrow what battery stats will do

I flashed a few custom roms the last days an the problem seems gone ...
also android system seems fixed ...
yesterday i had a call for 1 hour and 12 min and only lost 4 %.
For my experience i dont have any problems with dead phones in the past , so i dont need warranty...
and for most software problems this forum helped me out ...

Mobile Radio Activity draining battery?

Hello,
I just switched last week from my old note 1 to the S6 and I really enjoy it so far but the battery time bothers still a bit.
On my old note 1 and my 5.0 and 5.1 rom I never had Google play services and the android system consume more then 4-5% battery.
But now on my S6 it's always more than 20% battery usage.
And the mobile radio activity is always at the end of the day at one and a half our on play services and android system, never had that with my Note.
I don't usually surf more than 50 minutes while I'm at work.
The only apps I have installed are whatsapp, clash of clans and twitter.
I did a factory reset today only installed whatsapp and the damn battery drain is still there...
My provider/Mobile carrier is Vodafone Germany, and LTE on.
I normally have 3 to 4 bars H+
I hope someone knows how to reduce this unnecessary battery drain
I would keep an eye on your screen on time, and if you're getting 4-5 hours or more, with a day's use, you should be all good. I get just as good battery life on the S6 as my Note 4 before it oddly enough.
High drain on 1 thing might just mean that the others are draining less than they used to on your old phone.
The battery is weak in this phone. That's all there is to say about it. I charge mine twice a day just to get by. You're not alone

I´m pretty sure now that it has something to do with the mobile network.
Yesterday i only got 3h15min battery and today at home with wifi i´m at 5h30min...
Screen time of course
The strange thing is that android system only had a total connection time of 5minutes with wifi.
And even though the battery is only 50mah bigger as in my old Note 1 i never got that battery life out of it,so the battery size of the S6 is perfectly fine in my mind.
I heard that in the 5.1.1 update the battery life is a bit better, does anybody know if that adresses my problem?

Don't worry about battery life until 2 week after !!!!

Hi everyone , I'm new in the community but I already found that this is one of the best phone forums online , normally you come here for help because you have a problem right ? But today I'm just here to give an advice, I notice that many people complain about the battery life on their new phones , I had the same issue with my note 5 , I saw a video on YouTube and the phone showed an estimation of battery usage of 18hours while mine only showed 9 , I immediately thought that my phone was broken or something until a month later I realized that I was getting more than 20 hours of battery usage , when we use a phone for the first 3-5 days ( specially android) we can't expect it to be fully optimized because it's still learning your behavior and phone usage, just by installing a new app your making your phone to "learn to do something new" when I got my s7 edge I didn't expected to have great battery life , I was constantly installing and removing apps , flashing Roms and trying themes and etc. Now after a month later I use my phone on a pretty standard routine , I used package disabled but it only made my phone laggy and slower , so I decided to use my phone on the stock way , I running all stock , ( only disabled the apps that come with the phone that I don't use like power point , Samsung gear and health...) and after I did this I noticed a huge bump on battery life , I went from 12 hour of usage and 4:30-5hours of SOT to 30hours of usage and 8hours of SOT
After installing a custom/stock rom make sure to drain the battery completely just once to calibrate it !
I can never get more than 6 hrs sot.. Gonna follow your tips and write back in a week or so. Thanks for sharing!

Feel free to use package disabler, it was a lifesaver to me with my note 5 but not on the s7 , but other users report that has been really helpful other thing you could try even that the impact will be minimal is using a dark theme ,
Also don't update to the newer firmware if on Exynos. Seems to hit battery life by 25% or more as android system goes from around 5% to 15-20% battery usage.

with newer firmware you mean the may update?
with me it was the other thing around, in the beginning it was quite good but now, its worse. is it because of the bright sunlight or the phone getting hot because it was around 30 degrees almost?
you see...screen on time about 2 hours
most active battery drainer, android itself
Only way for me to get 4 hrs of sot i have to plug in to charge and disconnect before i get to 90 cause then it seems to thing its fully charged and battery meter resets (on battery).

The thing is, I have disabled half of the system already, but it just feels like it's doing even worse than before so I'm leaning back on running stock again.
Yes original firmware much better battery than the update

It didn't work either to me , this is what I think , it may sound stupid but it could be the true cause , I think when you use an app like package disabler to disable things on your phone and then you accidentally touch to open the app or setting disabled the phone will think "what's going on here" why is this disabled? And it maybe tries to access/ open the package again and again causing it to actually drain battery !, You could a cache wipe , it worked for me , I follow all guides to extend battery life using package disabler, custom rom , flashing zips to delete bloatware but none of them worked for me , instead I went all stock ,and after installing the stock rom I did a factory reset and them the cache wipe, it worked flawless to me , the phone now works like a charm , no overheating (maybe I don't feel it because I got a case ) but the point is try to find your own solution , every s7 edge it's unic, maybe a simple reebok on your phone could resolve all of your problems , and a very important thing !!!!! If you flash a rom /kernel make sure you let your battery drain completely just once to calibrate it!
I wiped nothing, stock rom latest APD1 , aod off now but on sometimes , location on, sync on 3 emails, disabled a few things with ez package disabler. Browsed the net for all the time the screen was on, WiFi on while screen of and on for atleast 2 hrs while using line messenger and used Spotify for around 30 to 40 mins. This is sot and battery usage.
I don't know how u manage to get such bad battery life, swear u guys r fu#*ING about with sh%t too much, let it settle.

Great battery life , you can easily achieve 3 days of battery life and 8-9 hours of SOT I guess which is great for you , just consider yourself in the 5% of people that own a phone with no battery issues , I'm happy with my 8hours of SOT and I could achieve 3days like you just by using WiFi, I use LTE because it's faster were I live but remember that there are people so disappointed with their phones because they want to get the most out of their phones and just can't, may I ask if you are amazed with your battery life or do you own other device that beats the s7 on battery ?
I am amazed, it's as good as, if not better than my previous phone the z3, which was running a custom rom and kernel.
I do consider myself lucky to have the phone run so well right out the box.
Also when I said alot r fu#&ng around with their device, I meant roughly the same as you, I didn't mean to imply their problems r not actually there. I meant as u had said, changing roms, removing apps for new, disabling apps, not letting anything settle, wont give good results in battery life.

Holy smoke, 5+ hrs sot in half of battery. I've been trying to get more than 6 hrs for like a month now with different roms and optimizations, not even close..
I hate to be the voice of cynicism, but we do need to stop this stuff somewhere. The original post is utter nonsense. The suggestion that phones 'learn' your behaviour just simply isn’t how kernels work. There's a very small degree of 'learning' but power management is a very reactive process based on exactly what's happening. The only thing new apps change is what processes are running, and the kernel will instantly scale to do what it 'thinks' is right. Some managers will observe processes for a bit longer and react based on that - but we're talking hours at most, NOT days.
The only credit I'd give to this idea (which seems to be all over XDA for some reason) is that the first few days people use their new shiny phone a lot more than usual, and probably also more than they’d think. They also become far more aware of battery life and will even turn on the screen just to check battery life, which will obviously accumulate batery drain - so the bit about using your phone more is certainly true. But anything about Android being some sort of AI Neural Network app learning extraveganza that learns what you do over several days is (for the most (significant) part) wrong.
Think this is just descending into another battery thread and we have one here already

Hello !
Firstly, i dont have a very good english so I hope you can be a little understanding, well, lets get started, i've bought an xperia xz from someone ( he still has 2 month guaranted) , the few first days everything went normal and all, I didnt really watch the battery drain because i stayed all day in house, now that I have began to work, i've noticed that my battery usually falls at 12pm or 1pm ( works begin at 8pm), I've been looking at the internet to do some research but I still don't really get it, does the xperia have a fast battery drain or my battery is somehow borken, I need a phone that can lasts an entire days with an average usage, theres a way to make him lasts longer or do i change him for a Samsung s7 ? Idle battery consumption... 6% in 7 hours

Hi. My SM-G930F consumes a lot in idle. I have tried ROM stock, AOSP ROMs etc ... and it consumes a lot. Today, for example, it has consumed me 6% in 7 hours in idle. Kernel Audiutor tells me that he has been those 7 hours in deep sleep, but it seems a lot ...
Is this normal? In other smartphones I consumed 1-2% ...

My smartphone is new. I bought it sealed two weeks ago.
I have had a similar energy consumption with the two s7 I have owned. With a very light usage, with the phone in idle almost the entire time, no wifi and gps activated, I would say that I loose something like 20% a day. It is much higher than other phones I had like the s4 mini or more recently the Redmi Note 4, with something closer to 10% a day (the Redmi Note 4 has a 4000 mAh battery which is higher that the 3000 mAh battery of the s7, but still energy consumption seems to be lower). In general, idle energy consumption seems to be a bit high to me on the s7. But I heard that the pixel 3 for instance also has a standby time that is not impressive. Again, it depends on what is installed on your phone and how you use it.
Maybe some tools like betterbatterystats or something similar can help you to see what wakes up your device if you want to make sure it is not due to any app.
yep mine consumes the same , i think its some hardware issue , i flashed morokernel 7.4 and undervolted , used hidden settings magisk module to turn off wifi watchdog and background scanning , that saves almost nothing ,,
you can even turn off the doze feature and idle drain is the very same between doze and not doze...
the idle drain is just bad .. it will also be the first and last samsung phone ill ever have , back to sony after this one, my amazing z3c (rip) used 0 to 1% per night and gps was 5 times more exact than this samsung ****phone, had perfect pocket mode , what s7 is missing entirely
well at least it has a good screen on battery life , so its not totally unusable phone
buying samsung is like wanting to buy a german car but end up buying an english or french car instead lol ...
edit: just searched for a comparison officially:
16 hours Standby sony zx1 9 % samsung s7 23 %
but if you install swift installer , use dark themed apps , and firefox with darktheme addon for websites the amoled screen on time is impressive , almost the same as idle drain for normal browsing lol

Well yes, some other phones have more impressive idle power consumptions. I also have naptime installed to trigger doze when the screen goes off, but does not change battery life so much. Even ROMs with a very limited number of apps installed lead to a high idle power consumption, so seems like an hardware related problem to me. But I still consider the s7 as a great phone and keep it as my daily driver. It is kind of waterproof, has an excellent camera even in 2019 standards (and there's just one in the back, not dozens), I like the fact that it is a 5 inch phone that can easily fit in my pocket and that I can use with one hand, the design is quite good and polished (subjective), no curved edge and notch that I don't really like (subjective), it has nfc, a jack port, a great amoled display, fingerprint in the front panel. And recent Lineage OS and Lightrom ROMs work quite well. This phone has still a great support after a few years, and I have difficulties to find all the features I like on this phone on any other phone. So charging my phone every 2 days is ok for me
Edit:
- bad signal reception can also increase battery drain
- just came across this link if that can help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/fixed-standby-battery-drain-t3758050

its wrong, but theres nothing we can change so stopping worrying is the right call ... 0,9% per hour is the best which is possible on this phone it seems ..
but of course we need to throw this phone in the trash after 2 years becasue the battery will have deteriorated and usage is closer to 2 - 3% per hour (which in effect means it wont wake you many mornings (unless you have 30%+ when you go to sleep) .. while other phones might hold out 4 or 5 years maybe even 6 until the idle drain reaches the treshhold of unsusability ...
thats samsung for you! typical asian scammer company

I upgraded to an S9 in Arpil from an S7. The S7 has no sim card and I get about 3 or 4 days yes the phone is idle most of the time but never got that battery life when it had a sim card.
I am not suggesting you remove your sim card but this does indicate where some of the idle battery consumption goes,
