honor 6x emui questions - Honor 6, 6 Plus Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i bought a honor 6x during their flash sale, waiting on delivery.
i am a bit confused about the emui .
all the reviews i read online give the emui pretty much a bad review. its usually a good hardware with bad software review.
why dont they install google now launcher , then do a review?
would changing the launcher pretty much make it a stockish version of marshmallow ?
is the emui a skin or a operating system ?
when i had the honor 5x i changed the launcher to google now, then i went and installed cyanogenmod. i didn't really notice
a warranty voiding performance difference.

Don't worry about anything... It's just a skin...and there is nothing different except the user interface no big deal... It's just like the honor 5x...

you are totally confused bro...
emui is a heavily skined (themed) android os
yeah , its bad, slow, frustrating
installing another launcher, doesnt actually change the entire operating system..
and yeah if you care about warranty, then you have to bare the lags

" installing another launcher, doesn't actually change the entire operating system.. "
thank you , that was what i wanted to know. i was confused about emui

There might be confusions between 6 and 6x.
We should correct the new ones to post in appropriate forum.

Question before buying Mate 8

i really want to buy mate 8 and i love it but i'm afraid from one thing i'm a user that root his phone and use xposed and flash roms
my question is rooting and xposed will work on this phone without problems?
and i think for mate 8 there is no number of custom roms
it is nornal that the phone is new but my question is like after 2 years when the phone stop to recieve update it will be a custom rom for it ? like Cyanogen?
Root yes ,xposed not working, stock ROM is very good with Google now launcher
I don't believe that CM is making ROMs for Mate 8
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using Tapatalk
Root works, xposed works, no cm ROM in sight but delete a bunch of bloat apps, replace them with Google apps instead, and use layers manager along with theme app for a very close to aosp ROM feel
Have to say, was very anxious to find out how Emui would be in practice. If it would be bloated, ugly, overkill, etc.
But now, after using the device for a few days, can honestly say that I wouldn't want it to be any other way! The amount of things you can change, set or extract techy data from is enormous. Don't want stock Android anymore. Don't want CM13. This is it. Emui rulez! :good:
It's fast, smooth, does it all. No regrets. Can't / won't downgrade to stock/ AOSP / CM

Mine doesn't even get warm. There are no dots on the screen either. Having a large battery makes it charge a little slower but mine charges fast if I use the original ac adapter and cable.

Hello everybody, I was wondering if someone could tell me the best mate8 model to buy I will be using it in the usa. I'm using the mate2 now and it is a solid mid-ranger. I have unlocked the bootloader and have cm13 running on it now. I would appreciate your suggestions on the mate8 models and why you pick it. Thanks..
I'm interested in buying a Mate 8 and I was wondering if you can shoot RAW pictures using the Mate 8?
I know that it has a "Pro Mode" option but I can't find any videos online showing a full indept review of that feature, so could anyone explain/elaborate on that?
Many thanks in advance!

Most Raw-capable camera apps you can download from the Play Store won't work as well due to crap implementation on Huawei's side:
Shame, really.

If you wish to buy a Huawei phone and need RAW image files, you have to wait for the release of P9 (April 16th) or P9 Plus (May 20th) that both offer this functionality.
Thank you guys for the reply.
That's really sad to hear then. My LG G4 recently died on me with the infamous boot loop problem and I can't get it fixed anytime soon. I might wait for reviews of the new P9 but I do like the Mate 8 as well though. I'd just have to sacrifice RAW function then =/

It's not only a matter of RAW vs non-RAW... P9/P9 Plus dual camera has been yet tested by some reviewers and defined a significant step forward compared to Mate 8 (but still worse than Samsung S7).

You are right, there's more to it than just RAW, but having RAW function is usually beneficial as you can process the picture later and not rely solely on the phone's image processor. Although if the phone's image processor is good to begin with then you shouldn't need RAW.
My G4 had RAW and I quite liked it, managed to get some good shots during my holiday before it died on me(luckily it died after my vacation was over, lol).

Not very good, no. Yes, lots of options but don't buy this phone for the camera. Much, much better alternatives (like your G4).

Marshmallow for the DAV-701L. Is this real life??

I went today looking for my daily dose of disappointment looking for the update or any news of it, only to come across this.
http://www.carbontesla.com/2016/06/huawei-p8-max-dav-701l-b203-marshmallow-update-asia-pacific/
Super hyped, i am only wondering can i flash this on a European DAV-701L?
It mentions somethins for a CUSTC which is not the same as mine but it IS a DAV-701L.
Your thoughts on this?
Nice, mine is CUSTC100D002. Don't know if it will work, not want to brick my phone
Just like mine, it is also CUSTC100D002. I am on the verge of flashing but i am having second thoughts...

Good find. Thanks for the news. It is definitely the genuine Firmware update for the P8Max and the link provided is directly from an official Huawei server. I downloaded it just for the sake of it as my CUSTC number is for Middle East and noticed it also has an OTA update section in a separate folder. However, when updating it stated incompatible firmware and aborted the process-no harm done to the device or existing settings. I wish someone could find a way to change the default CUSTC numbers so that we could mess around with it.
I would say if anyone is looking for the version for their own phones then simply go to the Huawei support section on their website and just keep an eye on the downloads section to see if your version pops up.
So it looks that we are finally beginning to see the Android M coming our way but it sure is a slow and painful journey.
I have it installed. Everything works perfect.

Hi! Could you kindly explain how you managed to install this update on your P8 Max. My one is the Middle East [Kuwait] version of the firmware. Also does anyone know what to do with the flashable OTA update folder in the separate folder found inside the download pack?
Well, after reading the friend from Romania succeeded, i tried it myself with my CUSTC100D002 and it sailed through the installation... No problems, just rebooted, doing a check and will get back...
I did exactly like in the tutorial that you will find at the link post above, were you find the rom.
Huawei browser is missing, Huawei Swype keyboard is missing, launcher seems to have only 4x4 and 4x5 settings (pretty sure the original 5.1.1 had a 5x5 also.)....
Quite disappointed so far...
I've had with those a-holes. One step forward, 10 steps back. Going to ask for a refund on this POS. No respect towards the buyer/user whatsoever.
I like the update, don't use the Huawei apps. I love the EMUI 4.0 themes, use Dark Ui theme now

Things are missing, huawei keyboard (which was actually nice), Huawei browser, the 5x5 which is quite important as the 4x5 feels like half the screen is unused.
They really pulled their eyes out with their own hands.
If i don't find a way to go back to 5.1.1 i'm going for a refund.

No problems here for now, i can still select 5x5 layout. Love the empty tray button to remove all active apps, no more slide. Also nice is smart screenshot, double tap to unlock and draw gesture when you write C on the screen, it will open the camera app.

Few Questions on Honor 8 Chinese Variant FRD-AL10

I live in India and was desperately waiting for this phone to release here.. But don't know why they released a single sim variant here.. So I had to import it from china.
AL10 variant works fine with Indian sim.. everything is perfect but just had a few question.
1. Does this phone has volte support.. If not then will It get volte support in near future like Indian variant.. - I cannot make calls from JIO 4G sim with its inbuilt dialer... (I have to keep the JioVoice App running to receive calls.. )
2. What about the updates?? Will I get EMUI 5.. ever??
3. This is something strange.. Apps generally do not gives notification on its own.. Like WhatsApp.. I have to open the app to get notification and receive messages.. Seems like it just does not work in background
Anyone?? Please

You've asked a lot, my friend. It's hard to predict the future. I can only try:
About VoLTE: I guess that it won't come with EMUI 5 for AL00 initially but it may be add later as VoLTE will become a standard feature soon in China too.
About upgrade: I had Chinese Honor 7 and upgrade to marshmallow came late and I had to download it from a Chinese website. I hope that it wouldn't be the case with Chinese Honor 8 since Huawei is committed to bring upgrades to every Honor device every 3 months.
And about your notification issue: Check app settings regarding notification, permission and battery. Make sure that all involved settings are enabled.
I too got a honor 8 FRD-AL00 Chinese version....
Please help me as well to remove chinese apps and as well as to get emui 5.....All others r getting it..... But not mine..... ????

A few days ago I got the update, it wasn't EMUI 5, but regular security update B171. I'm pretty sure that EMUI 5 will follow. So be patient. Nobody has really gotten EMUI 5, some owners of US, UK and Indian models received beta version, but it's still buggy.
Regarding Chinese apps, a lot of them could be uninstalled. Those which can't, could be deactivated. Just use force stop and disable in settings-apps. And disabled apps (any other as well) could be removed from the home screen. On the screen pull two fingers together and you'll get option to hide any app you wish.
Install google play store and any other google app by your preference. Download and change theme - this one looks very promising: https://huaweiemuithemes.blogspot.si/2016/11/emui-50-dark-beta.html
change wallpaper, install Nova launcher and find better icom pack like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themezilla.pixelui&hl=en
Just download icon pack, change every icon on your home screen with the new one, save configuration and uninstall icon pack.
You gonna have totally western phone like your friends and you'll feel better.

As of my knowledge, This model won't get updated.
I do have Honor 5X like this. Im staying in EMUI 3 till now.
If it is US, Europe, Middle East and Indian region version we can guarantee that it will get for sure. Not for this one.
It certainly will get EMUI 5.0. There is no reason not to get it as the phone was launched this year. There are beta versions being tested now. Guess the actual update might only happen early next year. Check the official chinese forums for the updates: (use google translate and you will understand most of it) - http://club.huawei.com/forum-2404-1.html
And this one is specific to FRD-AL10 model as well: http://club.huawei.com/thread-11277704-1-1.html

well, i think there is no 3rd party apps which can do dt2w, but you can find to dt2s,
but if you are rooted, there are ways..
I was surprised it's not an option too.
On the 6p it wasn't enabled by default but you could follow this if you were rooted :
/sys/devices/soc.0/f9924000.i2c/i2c-2/2-0070/input/input0/wake_gesture
And change the value in "wake_gesture" to 1
Or copy this in terminal emulator:
echo 1 > /sys/devices/soc.0/f9924000.i2c/i2c-2/2-0070/input/input0/wake_gesture
And that would enable it, unfortunately it didn't stick after a reboot so you would have to do it everytime. Might be worth seeing if the 6x has a similar workaround.

Im pretty sure it has a similar workaround since i was reading on the 5X forums that it was hidden and with some steps while rooted you can unhide this option. Im not sure why huawei decided to hide such a useful feature on this phone especially that it doesnt have a front home button to easily turn on the display to check the clock/notifications etc...
I still dont want to root my honor 6x just yet, waiting until there is a solid and safe way to root this phone.
Is double tap to wake a feature on the Honor 8?
I did find a easy_wakeup_gesture file using a root explorer.
Might be able to change the value of that to get the double tap working. I have only had the phone for a few hours so I'm not going to mess with that stuff quite yet.

the mate 9, 6x and honor 8 do not support dt2w. very disappointing.
I agree it is disappointing, an update would be welcome to remedy this problem (if the technique follows)
Hi,
I change some value in different file, and i can activate "double touch" in Settings » Motion control (under Smart assistance), but it doesn't work.
Does that mean that the kernel doesn't support it?
Thanks.

I wouldn't count on many developers getting the device. Honor is not known for being developed friendly. So most avoid getting their devices.

its not there for any kirin devices...unless you are on custom ROM.
so it is about kirin , if is it had SnapD, the feature will work , that is one of the feature what i am looking on device, redmi note 4 has it. I hope they will make it in update. Honor 5x has, so i don ´t check h6x spec for it... thats very bad. I am missing this, if is lay on table, it is best for it.

Tips about Honor 8

I need Help, im going to buy a used honor 8 and I wold like to you guys to tell me the most comons problems so I can test!
Goods:
1 Nice look and hardware
2 Some nice features in EMUI, everyone won't agree. Like security safe and app, camera software, finger print gestures
Bads:
1: Nightmare for someone who want to customize. Custom ROMs available but still unofficial due to issues.
2: Updates not as frequent
3: EMUI, depending on your preferences, some people just despise it.
You guys clearly missed OP's question...
Edit,
To answer OP, this is a great article which covers buying a used phone in general: https://recraigslist.com/2013/03/how-to-buy-a-used-cell-phone/
Generally you should:
Start by rebooting the phone. There is a warning saying "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" when booting up the phone. This means that the person has unlocked bootloader, most likely isn't using stock recovery and may be running non-official ROM. This might be a concern if rooting the phone isn't something you want to do.
Chech if IMEI isn't blacklisted using this tool: http://swappa.com/esn
Check if the device supports your provider by inserting your SIM and trying to make a test call/using data.
Check if the finger print sensor is working and check for any visible damage
Check the USB-C port if it isn't damaged and if possible, try plugging the phone in to see if charging works properly
Check back/front camera and video recording
That's about it, there aren't any specific problems that would happen only with Honor 8 to be honest.
Hope that helps.
I get the Honor 8, so far so good !!!
