Interactive lockscreen notification questions... - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

I never thought I'd say this, but coming from an iPhone and I feel like Apple actually has the better notification system. Is there a trick with EMUI to get notifications to be able to open from the lockscreen? I don't want to have to go all the way in to the app to reply to a text (stock app) or email (Google inbox). It seems as though you can do nothing with the lockscreen notifications besides look at them. I'm talking the main screen by the way, not the actual notification screen. Please help a returning Android consumer of you can. I'm hoping there's just a setting somewhere I'm missing to get this to work. Thanks!

Maybe this?

Yea I get the notification on the lockscreen, I just can't do anything with it other than double tap to open the respective app. With the iPhone, I can reply to a text or email directly from the lockscreen without ever leaving the lockscreen.

If you install/use Textra instead of the stock text app, I believe you can reply directly from the notification.

Yes that's the route I'm going to have to go. Thanks for the replies...Stock just doesn't do it.

In fact huawei notifications are not actionable. I doubt it'll be same for third party apps too

Setting-notification management-setting(top right corner)-when device is locked.

FYI, I have noticed one strange oddity when replying to texts directly from the lockscreen in Textra, vs. unlocking the phone and replying: when typing in my keyboard (I use Swiftmoji), press & hold on keys doesn't work. For example, to do an exclamation point in this keyboard, you press & hold the period, which brings up the exclamation point, question mark, etc. Press/hold doesn't work. But if I unlock and continue my reply, it works.
Personally, it's not a big deal to me to unlock the phone and reply from the app, except when the phone is sitting on my desk. I'm not really sold on the rear mounted fingerprint sensor. My phone is most often laying near me face up.

There is a setting called when device is locked.

Crap...Got excited when I found that, but didn't make a difference. Thanks anyway..Thought that may have been the simple setting that I was missing.

[Q] How can I turn off Google Now being always on when swiping to the right?

After unlocking my phone, I get to my home screen with all my folders etc. As soon as I swipe to the right, I get Google Now!
It's as if it's an always on widget. On my N4, I would invoke Google Now by holding the Home key and swiping upwards (which I can also do with my N5).
Is this something that can be switched off or is this an integrated function of the system?
I'm not looking to switch off Google Now before anybody asks.

As far as I can see the only option would be to either A) Uninstall Google Now, or B) Install a different Home Launcher ... Neither are suitable resolutions to your question. I personally like having it as a home screen since I turned off my softkeys in Lieu of LMS
The only thing I can think of is switch launchers to nova or something similar. You would lose the "OK Google" function from the launcher though., so not a good solution if you use that function. As far as I know there is now way to remove it from the stock launcher.

Long press the homescreen, click settings, then uncheck the Google now option.

Thanks guys.
I don't mind having it but just wasn't sure if it was a feature that can be turned off without completely disabling Google Now.
Battery life is quite impressive on this thing even with it always on!

It does not disable Google now entirely just the extra screen, maybe you should try it before you respond with useless replies.

This page is the same page as if you went into settings from Google Now Directly. This will turn it off.

[Q] Is it just me?! Message notifications..........

Hi all
I have a frustrating issue with my HTC One Mini, which I think has been since the 4.3 update, and wonder if it is just me??
I am pretty certain that when I received either a text message or an email when the lock screen is on, it previewed the message. Well not any more! I used to find this really handy!
All settings seem correct, in security and the mail app etc.
Any information or fix appreciated.
Thanks
I'm sure I've read someone else with similar issues on here, maybe a 4.3 issue. Have you checked "personalize" under settings and made sure your lock screen it's set to the right mode?

Hi, thanks, yes I seem to recall reading something about this, but cannot find any info after searching!
Yes, all settings correct..........
Yup, this thing came with Sense 5.5, afaik no way around it
I think you can disable or enable to read at the security then you can enable the message preview. You must of hit disabled when you made your lock screen. Hope that helps.

Sounds interesting, but not entirely sure what settings you mean. I have the notification settings set under Security, is there another settings?
Thanks!

Did you turn on bypass to lock screen? If you did, try not to or remove the lockscreen then try to see if you can receive messages.
HTC have confirmed to me that the 4.4 KitKat update will address this issue. However, no timescale was given for the release date.
Anyone know when this might roll out to UK users?
Thanks

Users in the 4.4.2 KitKat thread are already using it and say it still isn't fixed.

"Disconnected from the charger" message

Does anyone know how to disable this message? I get it everytime I unplug from a charger and it stays there till I hit ok or battery. Anyone know how to disable I tried looking through the forums for an answer with no luck. Thanks in advance for the help!
Must be an application you have installed?
Sad to say I didn't even think about that... Now let me do a search for the culprit. I just got the Mate 9 so I'm still learning it I thought maybe that was something it just does.
Yeah doesn't look like any app is causing the message, so it's safe to say that this not normal for the Mate 9?
Nope, same thing on my US Mate 9. Very annoying.

Saw someone post this on another post, but he was not on a US version. I am on a US version and do not get that message, whether i'm using the Mate 9 own's charger and cable or my own.
Wondering what is making that happen for your US version
This happened to me the other day, but it was the first time.
I have a US Mate 9 and I get this message every time I disconnect from the charger. Still trying to find a setting to disable this message.

In another forum: http://forums.androidcentral.com/huawei-mate-9/763738-wish-list.html, the person who was experiencing the problem said that he solved it by wiping the device.
Weird how some have it and some do not.
That's definitely a third party app. I have a US model and this has never shown up and I've had it for several weeks now.
If it's third party I sure can't figure out what it is...I did notice it didn't show the message earlier but now it's doing it again. So Weird
What firmware are you guys using?maybe it's included in some firmwars?
It's not a third party feature I guess. It's part of EMUI os.i get this message from day one before installing any apps.
Does it also show an icon in the notifications bar? If so what app opens when you tap the notification message or the cog wheel on its right?

Same firmware here. Don't feel like wiping the device in an attempt to get rid of the message. have combed through what I believe are every option and apps, can't find a setting. oh well...

Ok So for all that were wondering I figured out the turning on any app in the accessibility settings causes this message to pop up. Not sure why at all but at least I know what causes it now. I use lastpass and it needs accessibility turned on to fill in apps so turned on it causes this message and turned off no more messages... So weird.
Yes it is definitely happening due to accessibility being turned on in certain apps, the app doesn't matter if it requires accessibility being turned on you will get the battery message which is weird, I wouldn't think one would have anything to do with the other. Oh Well terrible Bug. But got live with it...

Split screen view option missing from menu

Updated to Pie. The split screen option is not in the menu no matter what app I try it with. I've checked every place I could think of in Good Lock, Nova Launcher & Samsung settings & can't find anything that would be preventing it. I even tried under Samsung Launcher & had the same result. If anyone has any ideas, please share.

If you have a specific app that you need to use in Multu-window with YouTube, you can also use the apps edge panel to open the pair simultaneously.

I tried a few things but couldn't replicate what you are experiencing. Are you running Good Lock? I know it has a feature that modifies multi window, but I don't know if it would cause the issue you have.
Did you take the ota directly from the carrier? Or did you flash the new pie update? Mine came from the carrier last Thursday. Today, I backed up everything and did a factory reset and it feels like it's running smoother. Maybe that could fix your issue.
Turns out it was a bug in Good Lock's Multistar. They pushed an update last night that fixed the problem for me. Thanks to all for trying to help.

Screen Lights Effects not working properly...

Hi, i am using the Chinese version of the Find X2 pro and I just can't seem to get the it to work for notifications.
It works just fine when I get calls, but it doesn't do anything when I receive messages from like WhatsApp or WeChat etc.
I have the "light effects for lock screen" option turned on but it still doesn't work Does anyone here know a fix?

Same here. Never noticed this working on mine either now you mention it. China spec in UK also.
Doesn't work with global rom in UK either! I use True Edge from google play store, but even that is hit and miss (and it's not brilliant on the battery). Not sure why a company who doesn't include a notification LED doesn't do more for other methods of notifying.

Anyone got these Lock Screen Notifications working?
I've got the settings and it works lighting up, but only once, then it just stops which sort of defeats the object ?

It's only lighting up once or twice. Don't expect more. It's ok like that. If you want more then install from playstore. There a couple of apps which has similar settings for incoming messages calls, etc.

Yeah same issue here. Always On display is the only workaround I can think of.
With no LED they need a way to let you know of missed calls and text messages..
Can anyone recommend an alternative app?

I've tried:
True Edge
Always on Edge
Always on AMOLED
Notify Edge
All are *huge* battery suckers
Currently using Notify Buddy by Xander Apps. Seems to be the best for battery useage and lights up a circle (which is an absolute PITA to position). I have it perpendicular to the camera punch on right of screen. Works for *most* apps but not all.
Don't agree with the comment about notification only lighting once or twice is useful. We have notification sounds for that!

I think this is more if you are away from your phone or it's on silent. You want to be able to glance at your phone and know if there is something important pending. (like a missed call). At this point in time without Always on Display there is no way to do this.
Thanks for the app recommendation
I did try NotifyBuddy though didnt work for me.. No LED coming up.
i think always on display is the best option. at least it's a factory app designed to be run all the time.
For anyone not sure it's called "Screen off Clock" in the Oppo settings.

Took an age for me to "find" the LED on screen. Had to manually position and then use the overly-sensitive pseudo mouse to eventually find it. Move it a millimetre and it's gone again!
Similar issue on my UK purchased device, just over a month now, one update since purchase - CPH2025CPW_11_A.24 (still on June security patch!!)
Initially screen light effect for lock screen notifications worked but in the last few days has stopped lighting up for messages. Works fine for incoming calls though...
