I was hoping I could get some help. So I decided to unroot. I used Odin to go back to stock. Now my phone says that the sensor is not working and to try again later. I've tried to root and unroot again to see if that helps but no dice. Any ideas what I can do?
As long as you are on stock software and the sensor does not work. That sounds like a hardware fault
I see. It's weird. I rooted and everything was fine. When I went back to stock then it came up. I ran a test (it's the *#0*# or something like that) and the fingerprint sensor passed, which I assumed means it's working but I just thought maybe something switched it off and could be fixed.
Delete the print. Set up a new one. Except this time turn your finger all kinds of ways. Normal, slanted, way slanted. And then the opposite ways.
Also make sure you're holding it on long enough

Hi, I have a i9020T and just gotten it about 10 days ago.
Long story short the phone was dropped and the screen quickly started changing colors until it completely failed. So I order a new screen replace it, now everything looks good, the phone starts up normally, at this point everything is stock, factory reseted and everything.
Good right, well as soon as I put the phone to sleep it fails to wake up. It seems to function perfectly, buttons work I can unlock, I just can't see anything. Now matter how many times I restart and sleep the phone just doesn't wake up.
So I decide maybe another ROM/KERNEL could fix the problem, I was wrong. I have tried about 2 kernels, and 5 different roms, still nothing.
I am going to try and disassemble to see if there is a possible error, but other than the fact the phone wake up, it seems to work perfectly, CWM everything.
I cannot figure out if this is a hardware issue, but I am sure its not screen related. Hopefully not a motherboard issue.
I have searched google, xda everywhere yet no solution only few cases, but no real solution.
Thanks.
TheLegace.
I'm having the same issue. Then sometimes it randomly starts working again, but soon goes back to not waking up.
Hi all, I have a weird problem with the proximity sensor in my HTC Titan. I got a new Titan about a week ago, to which I immediately installed HSPL and Dynamics rom. After I did all the tweaks and installs I like, I noticed that every time I dial a phone call the screen goes off and stays that way until the number I called answers. If the number does not pick up, only thing I can do is remove the battery basically to hang the call up. I noticed that removing the back cover slightly affects the issue and its easier to get the screen back on (by pressing the power button), but still removing it does not solve the problem. With a handsfree I can actually stop the call as it has an accessible end call button.
I tried flashing another custom rom and also a stock rom, both had the same issue. So, I took the device for warranty repair. I got it back today from HTC, with a note saying that software has been updated and problem has been fixed. I tried the device and surely it was working. Well I can’t live without an fully unlocked device and against my better judgment flashed a custom rom again… And surprise surprice the problem appeared back.
Im thinking here that could I adjust the proximity sensor from the registry, if its somehow too sensitive or something. Strange part naturally is that other people with same rom are not experiencing this behavior, so it is device specific problem. Also I don’t think I can take the device back again and say yeah I was flashing some custom roms on it and lost whatever you did with it.
There a Proximity folder at HKLM and I tried changing some values there but no affect at all. It probably would be better to have someone who understands about the values little try to take a look.
Thanks a lot!
It's a hardware problem. I got the same issue after 2 months of use. I sent to repair but they wanted to charge me to do that, so I haven't fixed it but I still can get the screen back by pressing and rubbing my finger on top of the sensor.
But when I got it back from repair today it was working. I made few phone calls and it was working totally like normal.
you are not alone

I can tell you that you are not the only one with this problem, it happened the same to me. I'm still unsure if the problem is hardware or software, but I think it's software because it happened just after I install Dynamics_2.0_Titan. I really wish that someone will bring a good solution for it.
It is normal for display to go blank due to proximity censor while making calls. In my case however, occasionally the display stays blank even after the call gets over. This also happens every now and then when I lock the phone, only to never unlock. At times, the displays backlit switches while unlocking but not all the time. The phone's processor stays awake in both the cases (calling/locking) and the phone rings & vibrates perfectly on making calls. The only option that I have in such cases is to restart the phone. Is anyone facing similar problems with their phones? I've done a factory reset off late but still the problem persists.
Are you using a screen protector? May be you haven't aligned it properly and hence proximity sensor detects it and turns off the display??
I've had similar situations happen to mine, but I figured out that after a Skype call on my phone, the proximity sensor will remain active and will sleep the screen if something's covering it. I'm not sure if you have skype running, but if you do, that might be why.

I don't think obstruction of the proximity sensor is an issue since this problems occurs even when I lock and then try to unlock the phone. Also the backlit turns on at times when I try to unlock the phone.

Well, what you're facing right now is a classic example of what people face when they keep on the protective covering used on a new phone when the phone is shipped.
If you think it's not the issue then search for any apps which you might have installed? Run the phone is safe mode and see if it acts up? Flash stock images or do a reset to rule out the possibility of a software issue.

After few days of working flawlessly, today again the display blanked out while it was locked in normal mode. I tried unlocking the phone but only the backlit would light up. So I restarted the phone, activated the safe mode as suggested by you and then few minutes later, again the display blanked out. What should be the next step now? Please elaborate on flashing stock image. I've earlier done a factory reset but I immediately installed all the apps.

Well, if you're facing the issue in safe mode as well, any apps might not be causing it. To flash factory images, you will need to unlock the bootloader. Follow the guide which is linked in my signature.
Since you don't know about how to flash stock images, I assume you haven't rooted and undervolted? Display black outs while unlocking the device can be caused due to undervolting as well.
It could be a hardware problem on the phone I had before the n5 with my lg g2

Possible, but he should exhaust all software options before seeking out a replacement.

Hi, so I've had my Galaxy S6 and the fingerprint sensor has always worked fine. Yesterday it worked great all day long at work, then when I got home, it wouldn't work at all. I rebooted and still it wouldn't work, I cleared cache and data, did the hardware test, and it passed. It still didn't work, so I erased the fingerprints, and retrained my right thumbprint only. Now it seems to unlock with any finger of anybody! As long as they touch lightly, it unlocks about 90 percent of the time. I haven't really added anything new to the phone, so I don't think that's the problem. I'm wondering if anyone else has tried using other fingers and been able to unlock their phones. This isn't great for security...
I was having problems with my S6 Edge and was told to go to Rogers (Canadian Carrier) to get a tune up (worker tests out your phone to see if the problem is software or hardware related) before I could get a replacement. Well of course the worker had no idea what he was doing and just kept unplugging and plugging in my phone to his computer and attempting to swipe to unlock my phone like an iPhone. I told him it had a fingerprint registered and he proceeded with trying to unlock the phone with his finger, and to my surprise it worked. I actually decided to go around and try to get friends and family to unlock my phone using their finger but it never seemed to work. I'm actually really worried now that if my phone gets stolen, whoever managed to steal it is able to unlock my phone, especially if I have Samsung Pay enabled.

That's weird but you can always remote wipe your phone using Android device manager

It seems to work every time for any finger as long as it's a really quick light tap. I think these sensors can't be trusted. Galaxy S6 is definitely not as secure as everyone has been lead to believe.
As the title says, the back button nor the recent apps button work. Long story short, I have been running rooted stock Lollipop 5.1.1 with a VR specialized kernel for the Gear VR. All has worked flawlessy for almost 12 months.
A few months ago, I must have dropped the phone as the back was cracked, the pen was cracked, and the camera autofocus had a hard time starting up. I decided to replace the camera and the back cover. In the course of heating up the glue to remove the back cover, I accidentally turned on the phone which did come on but acted extremely slow and weird. I did get it turned off again. I then was able to physically perform the surgery to which looks awesome. I then started up the phone and verified the new camera works like brand new. Only issue is the back button, recent apps button, and the S case.
I thought maybe the rom was corrupted so I wiped with twrp 3 times and then reinstalled the firmware as well as kernel. Still have the same issue. In searching I found the "*#2663#" to which I was able to run the tsp update. Still not working. I then looked at the keyboard files with a root explorer to make sure key 127 had no # sign in front. It did not.
I am at a loss. Did I bork the hardware somehow with the heat? I am really thinking it is software related but at this point, I am stuck.
Any ideas?
