Huh, will be curious to see what it entails; I wasn't involved in the Nougat beta testing that Samsung had.
Found this today.

Yes but Im on the unlocked firmware Verizon s7 edge I had used odin to flash the unlocked firmware a few months back not rooted just received the APL4 with December security patch I suppose this is wrong place to have posted that since im on unlocked firmware.
No it's not!! Not to Verizon anyway!!
*not
Well only 2 days left in January 2017 and no Nougat update anywhere in site.
Once again, thanks Verizon for failing your loyal customers!!!!!!
Verizon will wait for S8 device to drop and then put the S7 devices on the shelf. I don't think that they ever intended to provide Nougat to S7 even though they participated in the beta. S8 is just a few months away therefore projecting another avenue of revenue for Verizon.
I wouldn't say that the s7 will be left out at least not by the developers of this forum. Maybe verizon however thanks to that person in the beta forum we can at least install 7.0 which is a beta maybe in we can un beta the beta in the future and have a perfect 7.0 rom. With that being said im just fine with 7.0
Won't really be a significant difference between 7.0 and 7.1.
February.... march...what the heck verizon get it together or im going back to straight talk, i thought i payed hundreds more for less inconvenience.
Same as it is every year. It's a contest between getting a new model phone with the new OS or Verizon letting us have one. Usually close to a tie. in any case I stopped worrying about the new OS and just get a new phone every year. That's' probably what they want.. Maybe this year I'll have it for about a few weeks at most before a new model is available. Whatever Verizon....
I'm looking to go to I phone 8 on T Mobile before buying another non updated locked down Samsung product from Verizon. I may try second gen pixel if it looks good.
I really want Nougat to be released but at the rate it's going, support is nonexistent for this phone. I'm honestly thinking of canceling my Verizon plan and going to Straight Talk with VZW towers. At least then I'll be able to pay for what I get, ya know? Just wish they had the Pixel XL on the straight talk payment plan store.

Naw battery life was horrible on mm even on a rooted U firmware. The beta is really beneficial. I've been on the beta for a month and so far no problems. And I'm on update 1

The issue is AT&T says we will buy it if you lock it to us so we can keep our customers and make it more of a chore to leave our company. Samsung says ok because we want the sales and that's why it's done... Samsung can care less once they sell you the phone what you do with it and they already built ways to know what you did to the phone for warranty returns. (So they can deny the claims that are caused by you not listening.)
If you want to get mad at anyone get mad at AT&T just like verizon they play every trick in the book.
That's why if you buy a phone full price you always go international version

I have heard of that happening from people that buy online but I don't know much about them I believe someone in one of the threads (that was an at&t or samsung source) said they were at&t branded internationals (meaning they were to be sold through at&t for corporate or maybe coverage outside the US?, though I don't know much more because I only stay up to date on the US versions
If you just bought it you might want to check your buying source (example amazon will give you a new phone if you buy the international that's meant to be used with several carriers), if you have owned it for awhile then you're in the same boat as the rest of us.
I don't think the bootloader will ever be unlocked unless..
A law requires them too...
Someone finally finds a exploit (which because less likely as more people switch to newer phones)
They have a security leak like Sony where the key is discovered.

Or at the very least stop the store worker from updating it when you first activate it. When I bought mine she took it out of the box, turned it on and immediately accepted the update notification and installed it after it downloaded when she put the screen protector on..
@Apoplectic1
You should have made her give you different one. I do not and will not allow a store clerk to setup or mess with a phone I'm buying. :good:

I would have had I known that AT&T locked their bootloaders. This is the first phone that I have owned that had one, and until I tried to mess around with it I had no idea that one could lock a bootloader.
Sadly, I won't be able to get the Lollipop update unless I want my phone locked down forever because I am one of the few people that is still on the MDL firmware which can use the LOKI bootloader bypass to boot custom ROMs.
Howdy, all.
I'm looking at purchasing an S6 and am wondering the likelihood of the Galaxy S6s at the Verizon store already having an OTA update installed that would prevent rooting? I don't know if all the S6s that Verizon gets are all on the same OS version from the factory or if the ROM that gets installed on the phone during manufacturing is updated as the carrier releases new OTAs?
Is the version of the ROM shown on a label on the box?
Thanks much.
If you get it from in the store the chances are pretty high since the update has been out for a little while now.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I bought mine about a week ago and it was still rootable because I am rooted now. Just make sure you don't take the OTA that it wants you to when you get it. Go straight home and root
Yes, the firmware version is written on the box. I suggest taking a look at the box the rep brings out before you actually buy it. Just make sure you or the rep doesn't take any OTA's.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I got mine 2 weeks ago and it was rootable. I specifically told the guy to NOT accept ANY updates at all, just activate the phone and hand it to me. He said "You're going to root it aren't you? Good for you. Plus it's safe you can return it to stock easy." My reply "I cannot confirm or deny any future plans."
I bought mine today. Did not take the OTA update and am currently rooted.
I would imagine that there are quite a lot of devices on the old version.
Do the new shipments contain the isocell or sony sensor?

I've had both and they both take great pictures. Some like Sony better and some isocell. From a comparison I saw somewhere on the web I liked the isocell better. The colors popped out a bit to me but honestly you can't go wrong with either.
Watch out though. I got my phone a week ago at the VZ store. Right after the rep activated it, the OTA began installing without any prompting. I powered the phone off immediately to prevent it. I was lucky. I played it super safe and put it into airplane mode until I got home and was ready to root.

If you check around it was suppose to be promised to tmobile a few days ago, so, knowing Verizon and the ungodly amount of bloat they shove down our throats and how they disable features because 'they' think they are not useful, i predict into February easy.

If memory served me correct it was someone by the name of 'football' who leaked them. Maybe he got fired lolz.
I am considering jumping ship from HTC and getting a nexus 5x, I am just frustrated with 'Verizon Certified' stuff. it is usually a bunch of bloatware and then they go in and disable features. Besides HTC will only support the device for 2 years. I like the idea of the software update coming directly from Google; like Apple does it, zero carrier intervention is the way to go.
Not sure I know anyone with a nexus 5x to ask what they think.
No one knows. HTC promised it by the end of last year, but they only made that deadline for the international version. The US isn't a priority in Taiwan.
You can run Santod's NuSenSeveN if you're S-OFF. That's pretty close to what we'll get, minus bloatware. And it pretty much runs perfectly. I'm currently on Captain's GPE, which was made for Sprint but works just fine on Verizon.
I'm going to Project Fi in June, just as soon as my contract is up. To the day. I'm jumping to a 128GB 6P.

Check Best Buy. I heard they were carrying the 6P. Might have the 5X as well. No guarantees though. YouTube should have some videos. I like Marques Brownlee. His specialty is cameras (pro grade) so when he talks about a phone's camera, he knows what he's talking about. And he's well versed in the other aspects as well. Here's his review of the Nexus 5X.

No, don't pay attention to internet scuttlebutt. That being said, nobody truly knows when the official will ship, but TMO has been excellent with providing timely updates in the past. I suspect it will ship sooner rather than later.
I checked the T-Mobile software update site last week and the S7 edge was only in the Manufacturing Development stage. It has since moved to the T-Mobile Testing stage. I would think we'll see the update sooner than later.

The sad thing is that the non-carrier variants for US (G935U) doesn't even have Nougat beta or whatsoever. Plus, T-Mobile let its customers know at least the stage of Nougat release on the phone while Samsung has no mention of Nougat coming to 935Us. Also, the non-carrier variants are on a quarterly update cycle for security updates too. So, it would seem that, at least in the US, get the carrier variants for Samsung phones.

It was released randomly for the SM-N920C 2 ¹/² weeks ago in Turkey...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=71465602
...so it shouldn't be too much longer for the rest of the world to get it. Depends on when your service provider decides to release it though. I asked T-Mobile when it would be for SM-N920T and they pretty much said that they weren't allowed to say, that it would be sometime in the near future and just to keep an eye out for it. No one knows when it will be released, but literally EVERYONE is waiting for this, so believe me you'll know when it arrives on XDA.

Here's a write up about the Sprint Note 5
http://phandroid.com/2017/04/06/sprint-galaxy-note-5-nougat-update/
Folks rocking the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will want to be on the lookout for an OTA to hit their phone. It’s Nougat!
The update is coming in as version N920PVPU3DQC5, a 1.4GB affair. It’ll be receiving all of Nougat’s new features and those which Samsung are delivering as part of a big upgrade to TouchWiz. It may even make your phone feel brand new, though we aren’t promising anything. Oh, and its security patches are fairly up to speed with a March 1st, 2017 level.
Anyway, for such a massive file size you’ll want to make sure you’re on a WiFi connection and have a decently charged battery (let’s say more than 50% to be on the safe side) before attempting to pull it down. Head to the settings menu on your phone to look for it manually if it hasn’t already hit your notifications tray.

Yea I read this yesterday
Sounds like the ATT folks began getting the update yesterday. How far behind can TMO be?
Verizon just got theirs......so it looks like T-Mobile is last.

I made this tutorial awhile ago for people with root to still be able to receive the update. Doesn't work if you're currently using a Nougat rom though. Can be done easily however from either stock Marshmallow or a Marshmallow rom that's based on your devices firmware.

EDIT: Oh...I forgot you commented on it. Guess you already knew about it. [emoji14]
Tmobile SOON 7.0
I wonder why all the other major US carriers have it out and TMO does not. I hope it is not an indication that the TMO version has bugs.
Could be they wanna make sure it is good for us first. I have heard about the other carriers releasing buggy updates to just get them out...lol we can hope anyway
