rom for galaxy s5 sm-g900a at&t - General Questions and Answers

Good day
Previously I had a Galaxy S3 and I was using CyanogenMod – Loved it!
I just always preferred a phone that was clean and lean without all the bloatware.
Now I’m with the S5 and there is possibly an option available for a custom ROM for my phone?
Currently –
SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 SM-G900A AT&T
Lollipop 5.0 G900AUCU3BOC4
So far as I can tell this phone could not be rooted.
Until a few days ago I got a notice in an email that it was now available.
I was on their mailing list if something should become available.
oneclickroot
I know you can’t go backward LP 5.0 – KK 4.4.
One can only go forward, LP 5.0 - LP 5.1 or LP 5.0 – Marshmallow.
However most of what I have seen out there for my phone has been LP 5.0.
At present I’m looking at these unless someone can suggest something else.
TMS5 3.0 ROM LP5.0
Twi5ted lollipop V7 LP 5.0
Alliance V8 ROM LP5.0
My question is, can I go from LP 5.0 (Stock) to LP 5.0 (Custom)?

If you've got the locked bootloader then you're out of luck rooting and flashing TWRP/Cyanogenmod.

Actually the phone is rooted now. Right after I posted this I used Kingroot king481.apk and Titanium Backup is installed and Root Check confirmed its now rooted. Although I have not tried the Bootloader...... With my luck that is another issue..... I wonder if I should try the first step with the Bootloader and see if SAFESTRAP or TWRP can install?

Safestrap is no longer supported and with locked bootloader you're not gonna get TWRP to work.

HI all, I'm new here and this Is my first post (question), Is There any solution to this issue (sm-g900a not taking custom recovery)?, I need (really want) to install android pie and magisk on my att g9005a,and most of the posts (including this one) are several years old.
Really appreciate an an answer, even if its still, "sorry, still out of luck",
Also, is this a good place for this, or should i start a new thread?
Thanks.

Your device is an AT&T variant, your device has a locked bootloader, you can't install custom recovery with a locked bootloader. The bootloader on your device can not be unlocked, you will never be able to install custom recovery on your device. If you want custom recovery you will have to get another device because you will never be able to use custom recovery on the device that you already have.

[Q] Soon To Receive, What To Do First?

Soon I will be receiving my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8013 (White) hopefully Thursday 1/24/13
I'm familiar with the Samsung Galaxy line as I've own the S II and currently own the S III
Reading through these forums before I decided to purchase the Note 10.1, over the Nexus 10, I was excited to see so much development for this tablet. I'm guessing when I receive this tablet it will have ICS 4.0 installed, here is my question
What is the first thing I should to do the tablet when I receive it should I do an OTA to get it to JellyBean or would it be better for me to just root it and the flash a provided ROM in the forum to upgrade it to 4.1.2 via TWRP?
IMy guess is that I should not do any OTA and just root, install recovery and then flash a 4.1.2 ROM, for now I'll be sticking a stock ROM since I kinda like TouchWiz
Thank you in advance for all suggestions!

yes skip the ota part and root your phone once you get it.. then flash 4.1.2.. you can choose from the 3 custom recovery that we have here., twrp.,
zedomax cwm., and darkman_RS cwm..
I would say use your tablet stock for a few dayz just so u know could experience pure stock.. Its nice to see wat a device can do untouched. Than I would say update in a few dayz because if you like me I just love knowing I can do things to my device because once u fix up tge tablet u gonna become bored and wanna try more roms.. thats why I say play with stock for awhile. Once you go custom its boring using pure stock..

Thank you both for your suggestions
I can do the pure stock thing for a few days, with root of course!
Actually my main thinking was to run it with stock 4.1.2
Yep. I flashed a lot of different custom roms on my old tablet (asus transformer), but I've never really found the need to do it for this one. I'd advise you to root with the exynos exploit apk (because it's easy, but it might not be as safe), then use mobile odin to flash to 4.1.2 while keeping root. Then, with root, you can add multiwindow to all your apps with another apk available in the Themes and Apps section here!
If your stay stock on 4.1.1 why not just ota as its easier then root with exploit app? This is what I did, love touchwiz all I've done is made more apps available in multiwindow and rooted

I got my tablet today, WOW!!! Two days earlier than I expected
The following is what I did
1. Installed CMW via Odin
2. Installed SuperSU via CMW
3. Installed Goo IM and installed TWRP
4. Installed Stock 4.1.2 via TWRP after doing a backup of course!!!
Man so far Peel is awesome
How can I move the soft keys from the left side to the right?

This is an easy upgrade (and one I did, going from a 4.1.2 ROM called BoneStock 3.4 to MOAR 7.1 and then to my current TW4.3 ROM, CleanROM 8.0). Its pretty similar to any other ROM you have flashed. You just need to make sure you flash a ML1 modem (which it appears you have already done), then flashing the new ROM.
There are a number of good TW 4.3 ROMs found on the Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development thread, and while I have experience with Mother of All ROMS aka MOAR (recently updated to v8.0) and CleanROM, but each phone is different so what works best on mine (or even what has the features you value most) may differ for you. Best to research each of the TW 4.3 ROMs by reading the specific developer threads and even asking questions once you have researched. The developers and the community is very helpful once you have done your own homework. Pay attention to what the developer instructs in the OP of each thread, as most of any question have about how to install are usually answered in the OP.
The good news... these ROMs are getting rock solid... pretty problem free and smooth. Good luck and enjoy the new ROM!
UPDATE: one suggestion... you may want to update whatever Recovery you are using. I do know going to a 4.4 ROM requires the latest TWRP (the recovery I favor) to 2.6.3.1 which I am pretty sure is the latest version. It may not be required for 4.3, but seems a good idea none the less. You will also note that your files will then be stored in a different place (I am not technical enough to explain this... so do some research on that). This will make a difference when you back up important files (pictures, messages etc) and also when you do the nandroids. And always, always make nandroids!

[Q] Stock 4.4.4

Hi all, it's been awhile since I've done any ROM flashing (older phones) so I'm a little rusty now. I'm currently root, unlocked, CWM with stock 4.1.2 (never flashed any custom ROMs on my S3). I'm wanting to get closet to stock 4.4.4 as possible. Can I use the Nexus 5 4.4.4 firmware on my phone? Or will it not work due to it being GSM?
If this won't work, can anyone recommend a ROM of the latest android version that is closest to stock as possible? Thanks.
I wouldn't recommend flashing anything on an s3 that isn't made for s3, unless of course you happen to like buying new phones to replace a brick that you made.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Wrong firmware = BRICK
Before you flash ANYTHING read, read, read,...then read some more.

The current CyanogenMod 11 nightly builds for the "d2lte" device are mostly-stock Android v4.4.4 and very solid on this device.
Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558946
Gummy also runs great. You can find it in the android development section.

[Q] Rooting 4.4.2?

So, I've been kinda digging around slightly. Between the Cyanogen mod site, and XDA. Everything says you want like 4.2.2 or previous to that basically to root your device or thats what most of the write ups are for anyways.
What I can't find is tutorials on how to revert your phone BACK to something older so I can root my phone. Its kinda been a pain in the butt because my stock rom keeps messing up on me. (Gotta love touchwiz & Verizon...)
So I've been wanting to get back to CM.
So has Verizon finally hit the top of the asshole tree and locked the bootloader to where we can't do anything anymore? And rooting a device that is on stock 4.4.2 isn't possible anymore?

Rooting is possible (towelroot) but reverting to a previous version, 4.3, 4.1.2 or anything else once on 4.4.2 is no longer an option

Got any links to documentation so I could accomplish this?
And whats good for a nice lean running snappy rom thats clean. I essentially just want to get to a point where my phone works properly without lag.

Are you on 4.4.2? And towelroot.com is where to get it. If your on 4.4.2 your only option is to install safestrap and go from there. Custom roms aren't an option anymore
Safestrap for 4.4.2 NE1

My suggestion is to read, read and read again

[Completed] [Q] Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V) lacking roms

I finally got my verizon s5 rooted. I used odin to install samsung's 4.4.4 and the stock kernel, rooted with towel root, then updated the kernel, installed safestrap, and everything works great! The only disappointment I have is that I'm unable to find any roms that work with it. I found a few claiming to work with this model -mostly cyanogenmod versions- but none of them work at all. One failed, one booted straight to recovery, and the last just booted to a black screen. Am I missing something, or are there just not any custom roms for the SM-G900V at all? Thanks in advance
Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist Well its upto developers and their interest and varies factors , you have to just wait
Good Luck!
