i really want to buy mate 8 and i love it but i'm afraid from one thing i'm a user that root his phone and use xposed and flash roms
my question is rooting and xposed will work on this phone without problems?
and i think for mate 8 there is no number of custom roms
it is nornal that the phone is new but my question is like after 2 years when the phone stop to recieve update it will be a custom rom for it ? like Cyanogen?
Root yes ,xposed not working, stock ROM is very good with Google now launcher
I don't believe that CM is making ROMs for Mate 8
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using Tapatalk
Root works, xposed works, no cm ROM in sight but delete a bunch of bloat apps, replace them with Google apps instead, and use layers manager along with theme app for a very close to aosp ROM feel
Have to say, was very anxious to find out how Emui would be in practice. If it would be bloated, ugly, overkill, etc.
But now, after using the device for a few days, can honestly say that I wouldn't want it to be any other way! The amount of things you can change, set or extract techy data from is enormous. Don't want stock Android anymore. Don't want CM13. This is it. Emui rulez! :good:
It's fast, smooth, does it all. No regrets. Can't / won't downgrade to stock/ AOSP / CM

Many people reported that xposed didn't work.
Did it work with you with any modification ?

Mine doesn't even get warm. There are no dots on the screen either. Having a large battery makes it charge a little slower but mine charges fast if I use the original ac adapter and cable.
hi. i read about camera app taking forever to launch. any similar experience? does using another camera app solve the problem?. also how good is the loadspeaker? im coming from s5>nexus6>note edge and they all have pretty loud sound
Hello everybody, I was wondering if someone could tell me the best mate8 model to buy I will be using it in the usa. I'm using the mate2 now and it is a solid mid-ranger. I have unlocked the bootloader and have cm13 running on it now. I would appreciate your suggestions on the mate8 models and why you pick it. Thanks..
I'm interested in buying a Mate 8 and I was wondering if you can shoot RAW pictures using the Mate 8?
I know that it has a "Pro Mode" option but I can't find any videos online showing a full indept review of that feature, so could anyone explain/elaborate on that?
Many thanks in advance!

Most Raw-capable camera apps you can download from the Play Store won't work as well due to crap implementation on Huawei's side:
Shame, really.

If you wish to buy a Huawei phone and need RAW image files, you have to wait for the release of P9 (April 16th) or P9 Plus (May 20th) that both offer this functionality.
Thank you guys for the reply.
That's really sad to hear then. My LG G4 recently died on me with the infamous boot loop problem and I can't get it fixed anytime soon. I might wait for reviews of the new P9 but I do like the Mate 8 as well though. I'd just have to sacrifice RAW function then =/

It's not only a matter of RAW vs non-RAW... P9/P9 Plus dual camera has been yet tested by some reviewers and defined a significant step forward compared to Mate 8 (but still worse than Samsung S7).

You are right, there's more to it than just RAW, but having RAW function is usually beneficial as you can process the picture later and not rely solely on the phone's image processor. Although if the phone's image processor is good to begin with then you shouldn't need RAW.
My G4 had RAW and I quite liked it, managed to get some good shots during my holiday before it died on me(luckily it died after my vacation was over, lol).

Not very good, no. Yes, lots of options but don't buy this phone for the camera. Much, much better alternatives (like your G4).
I live in India and was desperately waiting for this phone to release here.. But don't know why they released a single sim variant here.. So I had to import it from china.
AL10 variant works fine with Indian sim.. everything is perfect but just had a few question.
1. Does this phone has volte support.. If not then will It get volte support in near future like Indian variant.. - I cannot make calls from JIO 4G sim with its inbuilt dialer... (I have to keep the JioVoice App running to receive calls.. )
2. What about the updates?? Will I get EMUI 5.. ever??
3. This is something strange.. Apps generally do not gives notification on its own.. Like WhatsApp.. I have to open the app to get notification and receive messages.. Seems like it just does not work in background
Anyone?? Please

You've asked a lot, my friend. It's hard to predict the future. I can only try:
About VoLTE: I guess that it won't come with EMUI 5 for AL00 initially but it may be add later as VoLTE will become a standard feature soon in China too.
About upgrade: I had Chinese Honor 7 and upgrade to marshmallow came late and I had to download it from a Chinese website. I hope that it wouldn't be the case with Chinese Honor 8 since Huawei is committed to bring upgrades to every Honor device every 3 months.
And about your notification issue: Check app settings regarding notification, permission and battery. Make sure that all involved settings are enabled.
I too got a honor 8 FRD-AL00 Chinese version....
Please help me as well to remove chinese apps and as well as to get emui 5.....All others r getting it..... But not mine..... ????

A few days ago I got the update, it wasn't EMUI 5, but regular security update B171. I'm pretty sure that EMUI 5 will follow. So be patient. Nobody has really gotten EMUI 5, some owners of US, UK and Indian models received beta version, but it's still buggy.
Regarding Chinese apps, a lot of them could be uninstalled. Those which can't, could be deactivated. Just use force stop and disable in settings-apps. And disabled apps (any other as well) could be removed from the home screen. On the screen pull two fingers together and you'll get option to hide any app you wish.
Install google play store and any other google app by your preference. Download and change theme - this one looks very promising: https://huaweiemuithemes.blogspot.si/2016/11/emui-50-dark-beta.html
change wallpaper, install Nova launcher and find better icom pack like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themezilla.pixelui&hl=en
Just download icon pack, change every icon on your home screen with the new one, save configuration and uninstall icon pack.
You gonna have totally western phone like your friends and you'll feel better.

As of my knowledge, This model won't get updated.
I do have Honor 5X like this. Im staying in EMUI 3 till now.
If it is US, Europe, Middle East and Indian region version we can guarantee that it will get for sure. Not for this one.
It certainly will get EMUI 5.0. There is no reason not to get it as the phone was launched this year. There are beta versions being tested now. Guess the actual update might only happen early next year. Check the official chinese forums for the updates: (use google translate and you will understand most of it) - http://club.huawei.com/forum-2404-1.html
And this one is specific to FRD-AL10 model as well: http://club.huawei.com/thread-11277704-1-1.html

If you are having KNT-AL20, then you will get the EMUI 5. But it will be little late.
I have a KNT-AL10 that would also get EMUI 5. It's in closed beta testing now. I know it may be late, possibly by March-17
Its 2020 & still i am using Honor 8..model is FRD-AL10 and EMUI 8.Does it support VoLTE?
Hi everyone, I'm currently an happy Honor 6x (not 8 yet) owner.
The only thing that makes me crazy of my phone is its fake (I think) implementation of gyroscope.
Here's the fact: my previous phone LG G4 was a perfect hardware companion for MSQRD app, when launched app was immediately able to synchronize overlapping image to my face with no
delay and fast and non flickering adjustations.
Now on Honor 6x things are totally wrong with too big delay between any movement and overlapped image, so to get MSQRD totally unusable.
I need you to try MSQRD app (you can easily find on PlaysStore) on your Honor 8 smartphone and tell me how it performs for you.
I'm very grateful in adavance to anyone who will help me.
Thank you very much.
Just tested it for you and it worked instantly. No wait, no config! Honor 8 with B380

Overlapped mask isn't trying to follow your face when you move but moves instantly with it, is that right?

This is what I wanted to hear. Thank you very much my friend and future "colleague"!
Honor 6x which i purchased a month back was absolutely working smooth in marshmallow.
I did a update to Nougat Emui 5...mobile would work fine & very smooth for some hours after a reboot or clear ram frequently. If we dont clear ram/reboot & use it for more than a day....It just dont...hangs, lags, stutters
Funny part is...it holds apps which i opened almost 7/8 hours ago from ram(i would have opened 8-9 apps easily after opening that app)
It seems emui has some memory management issues which isn't killing very old processes/apps
In developer options...If we set background processes limited to 4....voila!!! it goes smooth again...as old processes are killed
so my question here is ....can we limit background processes to 8-10...as 4 in developer options is so less
if not....any workaround to fix this.....I remember following d above mentioned method in my old galaxy s2, friend's redmi 1s....i feel ashamed to do it my 6x in 2017...c'mon Honor !!!
Y doesn't it kill apps/processes which are too old and allow everything to run in background....Unless & until we open a heavy memory demanding app like a game...it wont kill old processes running in background....WEIRD !!!
Please refrain from clearing apps from RAM. They will just resurrect and come back more RAM hungry.

Emui is known for its aggressive killing of app in background. You can have 20 apps stored in ram and if you launch ine more then the 1sr app will be killed. Thats hiw EMUI works
Shashank u can decice how many apps to runned in the background . Probably the smart power 4.0 mean about the battery manager.
According to my Mate 30 Pro and others, this is the status
Netflix ("Could not reach netflix service")
Google pay (works for some, not for others)
All Google apps (unless you installed before LZplay.net was taken down)
Google translate (usually works without other google services)
Facebook/Messenger (login error)
Instagram (login error)
Amazon appstore (Cannot pass login authentication test)
TD Canada (fails to install even from Huawei app store)
Pandora
Nord VPN
Galaxy Wearable (works when restored from backup?)
Uber
That said, all apps that have a mobile web interface work fine, like Netflix and Facebook you can load in a mobile browser.
If anyone knows more, please tell me and I can update the list.
In case you're wondering, every phone brand in China does not ship with Google services (google is blocked in China), but they all have their own installer programs to install it all for you.

Since I don't have the phone, I heard from reviewers what apps they said weren't working correctly:

Youtube (Picture in picture issues)

Lucky u.
Apparently the Samsung Galaxy Wearable app is not compatible with Android 10 until any one of the Samsung phones gets the Android 10 update.
Guess my watch will be unusable for another 1-2 months!
Darn Samsung!

To be clear, first for the app "Galaxy Wearable" i restored it using my huawei backup, BUT, when i search for it on the play store, it says that it isn't compatible with my phone, but it's working
After, for the google apps side, i used LZPlay at the time it was working and i installed all the google apps
If you've got any question, feel free to ask
