GPS Not Working - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Recently noticed my GPS was not functioning properly. Upon installing a GPS testing app, it shows that my pixel is 'seeing' the satellites, but not connecting to any of them, rendering gps useless.
I tried flashing the stock modem/radio image, but that did not help. I also tried removing and inserting sim, per some suggestions online.
I am on 7.1.1, rooted, TWRP installed.

Bump

Go outside and see if it locks. It can take 5-10 mins for a first time lock. The trick though, is go outside.

Are your time settings correct? The GPS.Cfg file provides time zone setting to GPS apps in order to ping proper satellites.

Yes, date/time should be correct.
I'm almost 100% positive my GPS worked fine before ever rooting and updating to 7.1.1. Not sure how exactly that process could've messed with my GPS, but it seems it did.

You can try the GPS Fix - GPS Test app from the Play store. This used to be a staple for us to fix GPS issues in deleting GPS cache and rebuild the GPS.conf file.

Just tried. Appears that my accuracy is still extremely low. Upon checking other gps testing app, phone still is not connecting to any visible satellites. (see attached images)
Also, could it have anything to do with which slot is currently active if radio/modem is slot-specific?

Is there a way to reset everything without losing data? I would hate to have to re download and sign in to all of my apps yet again.

You can download the 7.1.1 stock image from the Google developers' site, extract it, edit the flash-all.bat file to remove the '-w' parameter, then run flash-all.bat with the phone in bootloader mode. That puts your device back to stock, unrooted, with data preserved. However, if your GPS issue is caused by a corrupted configuration, guess what, reflash stock isn't going to fix it.

Curious though how running flash-all would fix my issue. If I understand correctly, the only thing affecting GPS should be the radio img, which I already flashed to no avail.
Is it possible that the radio img was flashed to the slot that I'm not currently on?

Possible, but radio is radio. It's an image, it doesn't change when you rooted.
I still believe your GPS.conf file is messed up. Flash-all replaces this file in system/etc.

Wifi unable to reconnect when coming back in range

I have this rather annoying problem with my OPO: When I'm on WiFi and go out of range and get within range of another WiFi (eg leaving from home in the morning and getting on the train where there's also WiFi) my OPO will not connect.
I've tried switching WiFi off and back on, tried forgetting network and connecting again but the network just displays as "Saved". Only thing that works is a reboot. Funny thing is that it actually detects open WiFi's and displays the question mark in the notification bar.
I've read that themes can cause WiFi problems so I haven't changed that. I'm using the Apex launcher with no visual changes.
I've rooted my phone but left the bootloader locked.
Any advice?
I'm rooted with the TWRP custom recovery installed. I had the same thing happen to me. If you toggle airplane mode on/off, it will reconnect. But, as for a solution, my fix was to restore a previous TWRP backup of my phone. I also had heard that the problem could be coming from a theme. What themes have you used? I bought the Flux theme and have been using its style and fonts. I was running the stock CM11s when this happend just a few days after getting my OPO. I would try a factory reset first. If that does not work, there is a thread in the OPO forums about flashing a factory image and getting back to 100% stock.
I have switched to the CM11 nightlies as of a couple of days ago. I will probably refrain from messing around with the theme packs for now.

I'm now on KTU84P and the problem is still there
Yesterday I failed to flash MAHDI and ended up clearing everything from my phone. I had to follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
to get back to pre-KTU84P (can't remember the build number).
So I guess it's safe to say that my phone has had all sorts of memory cleared. And the problem is still there...

I really hate to hear that you are still having the wifi issue. One would think that if you flashed all partitions with a factory image that it would solve the problem. You might want to have a look at this thread. This guy was unsuccessful in fixing his efs and bluetooth problems until he flashed Color OS and then went back to CM. Flashed Mahdir ROM yesterday and though the rom works just fine my WiFi reconnect issue has not been resolved
I find flashing yet another rom (ColorOS) sounds a bit drastic. Really no way of debugging what's wrong?

Been there. Done that. Read the book. Got the t-shirt.
Flashed ColorOS.
Factory reset.
Booted and got through into ColorOS (skipped account setup).
Booted into recovery.
Factory reset.
Restore backup of CM11S.
No dice :'-(
What are my options now?
A couple of days ago I completely wiped my OPO - radio, modem, everything and flashed a new stock image. Nothing has helped.
I really find it hard to believe this to be a hardware issue.

Just for clarification - after flashing Color OS, did you turn on wifi and use it to see if the problem was still there while in Color OS?
If your WiFi 2.4 or 5GHZ?

Yes. I would recommend you consider doing that. If it works then I would flash a fresh Cm11s rom, not a nandroid backup. Flash the Color OS and do a full check of the Wifi.

I was having the same issue, but here's what I did and it seems to have resolved my issue.
1) Updated firmware on my ASUS AC68 router
2) Boot into recovery mode (volume down+power), wipe cache and media, then factory wipe
3) When setting up phone, did not apply CM theme on the options after logging into CM account.
It seems like WiFi might drop when you get to homescreen, just reboot phone and Wifi should reconnect. Make sure to go into your WiFi settings and remove any networks that was saved, and re-add.
Still not ideal (since it seems like themes might be killing WiFi for some users), so hopefully a new OTA update will solve this problem.

[Android 5.1] no service

My phone has suddenly stopped having any service whatsoever, I have tried everything, factory reset, format data, but have still been unable to get anything. I tried playing around with the radio settings and the APN but that hasn't worked either. If anyone has some ideas, they would be welcome.
Did you try putting the sim card into another phone?

Pay the bill
Does the SIM status screen show your phone number and IMEI? I had a Galaxy Nexus once that quit working, and those were blank (or maybe it said unknown) in the status screen. I figure possibly the EFS partition developed a fault or got corrupted.
I flashed the 5.0.1 radio and was able to get service again and can now text but I'm still unable to call anyone.Whenever i try to dial the number it simply goes silent, loses service and ends the call. I am also still unable to receive calls as well, all calls people attempt seem to cause me to lose service and only get a voice mail afterwards.
I haven't checked the sim status screen yet and I am unsure as to how.

If you suspect EFS corruption, try restoring any TWRP backup you made prior to the problem.
The EFS partition will be present in the backup, unless you unchecked if you checked that partition in TWRP Backup.

I have a similar issue. After I updated to 5.1 my mobile data doesn't work. I tried everything listed before in this thread with no result. I don't know what is happening. The first one I updated using 5.1 factory image. Reverted to 5.0 Factory image and it worked again. So, I update by OTA to 5.01 and then to 5.1, same results. This drives me crazy! I want 5.1 on my Nexus
BTW I have D821 model. Any suggestion?

There is another topic on this matter (i.e. common problem): http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/sim-card-recognized-upgrade-to-nexus-5-t3054267
For me it helped, ejecting and reinserting the SIM card. But I had also flashed other ROMS and cleaned the SMS/call/contacts database. So not sure why it worked.
I also notice that my System UI frequently stops. Does anyone have a stock System UI for me? Many thanks!
I am having similar issue and SIM status shows Radio off, how do I turn on?
Thanks.

Gps broken

i have a nexus 5 that is completely stock. I used to have it rooted but decided to go back to stock for lollipop. I am running android 5.1. Since I have had lollipop I have zero gps capability. I feel like I have read every thread on the subject and tried every suggestion, but I can never get the gps to lock.
I have tried the. Card stock gps antenna fix, didn't work.
I tried factory reset
I tried device only
I have used gps test and fix
I have used gps status and toolbox
I tried safe mode
I tried mapquest
Bottom line my gps doesn't work at all, it used to, but not anymore. Any ideas on what to do?
Same thing here and I also tried most of what you describe --- 5.1 (LMY47D), clean install (no OTA).
Select high accuracy
What does GPS status show? Flat lines for all satellites? What is the setting you're using for downloading the assistance data?
I used GPS Test and GPS Status -- here are two screenshots: i.imgur.com/o2B5QCk.png
Meanwhile I flashed LMY47I and re-installed everything from scratch. It still feels sluggish but now I can get at least a GPS fix after a couple seconds. Hope it stays this way.

Until 'Extra Suggestion.....' I didn't try Leo AGPS Injector BTW.
I just wanted to update everyone...I wiped the phone clean and flashed the phone to the latest stock. GPS issues remained, so I rooted it and tried the GPS.config tip and it didn't help either. Then I downloaded FasterGPS and used it (basically does the same thing the GPS trick linked above does) and now it works again. It takes about a minute for it to lock so it isn't super fast to lock, but it works and I have not heard the GPS signal lost since I did FasterGPS.
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions.

Bluetooth Connection - Car Stereo

I am having an issue work my car stereo connecting to "media audio" on my phone. The phone always connects and media audio works fine with all other Bluetooth devices except my car. I can get it to work after the stereo says no connection I toggle media audio and then it connects. It used to auto connect no problem. Any help would be appreciated.

ROM: OOS 10 Stable
Phone Mods: FDE.AI, rooted, bootloader unlock
Magisk modules: Oxytweaker, Google dialer framework, YouTube vanced
I had a similar issue suddenly appear. The first saved Bluetooth device auto connected. None of the others would. Couldn't figure out what to do. In the end I rebooted to TWRP and restored.

There is no point in restoring Data unless your backup was done prior to the issue arising.
If you already have 9.5.11 System, Vendor and Data backed up, and you know at the time of back up there were no Bluetooth issues - then yes restore that. But I don't know the process to downgrade like that. If you are successful in that, then you should be able to upgrade from there afterward. Hopefully without further Bluetooth error.
But I need to remind you. I am not good with phones and can't be sure restoring Data is what actually worked. It doesn't make sense to me that it would.

Question Help ! No wifi and bluetooth scanning

Hi friends,
Since yesterday, my wifi and bluetooth don't work anymore. When enabling them, it scans nothing . I've made a factory reser without any psuccess !
Never seen an issue like this on any phone...
Thanks for your help guys
Have you tried restarting the phone? I had 1 time yesteday too, suddenly, the phone was idle, and when I checked Wifi found nothing. Restarted and then it works again. Not sure if related to March update or some other stuffs

Wow...after a factory reset, that's pretty much it!
You can try doing the reset network settings button (you can search it in the search bar in Settings or find it in the Internet setting on top right button [wrench and reset circle]), but I can't imagine it doing better than a factory reset.
The best/last thing that can be suggested, since it states you are rooted in your sig, is to flash the latest Full Factory image (March) and/or with the "-w" intact (since you stated that you did a factory reset so I imagine your phone is wiped anyways) and see if that doesn't fix the issue. The best 3 methods to achieve this is using the online Android Flash Tool, the tool PixelFlasher that can be found here on XDA, or manually using platform-tools (you must've used one of these in the past to be rooted, so I assume you're familiar).
Hopefully you get it figured out. Worst case, the phone is still under manufacturer's warranty and you should be able to get it replaced with a refurbished if it truly isn't resolved...

Yesterday I dirty flashed March update bmand disabled verity stuff. It forced me to format data. Is it enough or is there a better clean flash way ?
Btw I tried the reset network thing without success

Mmmm...when you stated you "factory reset", it wasn't clear whether it was from the OS system setting or when flashing...
I don't think there is a "better clean" way to flash and/or reset the phone. If you're not flashing/sideloading OTA (which you aren't)...
It (reset network) was a very long shot, but worth exploring just in case it hadn't been tried yet...
I mean, I guess you can try Android Flash Tool and even go as far as to flash to both slots and relock bootloader to get a pure, stock status and see if the problem truly sticks that way. You've already wiped the phone, so I doubt this could hurt or you lose anything important at this point. But I can't imagine dirty flashing the latest March update (or even including disabling the verity stuff) wouldnt've addressed or reset things to set the issue straight...
If it's still there after relocking the bootloader and flashing to both slots, then it's warranty exchange time (if you ever want to resolve the issue)...
*most likely the flashing somehow wrecked the system board radio enough...
If/When this works, you'll need go through the trouble of unlocking the bootloader, and reflashing the Full Factory image with disabling the verity & validation stuff, before rooting again.
Ok I think it's a hardware problem. When I shake my phone, I hear something moving.
I dropped it from my bed saturday night. The wifi module must be disconnected.
Let's send it to Google....

Are you sure that what you are hearing move when you shake the phone is just the OIS for the camera? All phones with OIS will make some noise when you shake them.

I don't know my friend. Google will send me the return process tomorrow. They told me 7 to 10 days for repairing. Why did I sell my old oneplus ?

I have had several OnePlus phones and they have all been great for me! However, I am having no problems with my 7 Pro either so....YMMV
