Update 32.2.A.0.305 to 32.2.A.5.11 - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
actually i am a total noob at this because i had not much time to get in the topic.
So i want to Update my Device because its showing me the Update aviable massage.
I have:
ROM: [email protected]
Recovery: TWRP Installed
Kernel: Androplusv40
Bootloader: Unlocked
Can anybody give me advise how i can update to the newest stock rom?
I guess their is no .zip to flash in recovery? I want to keep my recovery and root if that is possible.
Thanky you!
Greetings Abgeloust.

You cant keep recovery or root through an upgrade but it shouldent be too hard to re-root
You can use flashtool to flash a newer FTF without data loss and then you can also use flashtool to flash a elf or img kernel (usually has recovery included with xperias)
If ye need some more explaining then let me know
Sent from my E6653 using XDA-Developers mobile app

other option is to use flashfire ( from google play )
u can update ur device wothout reseting

you can open something called xperifirm via flashtool (if you have a newer version) it should be a little XF icon somewhere along the tool bar
once that is open you can pick your device from the list on the left and then click check all at the top right, to download your FTF you click a version from a country/region and then click on the right where it says avaliable firmware ON a avaliable firmware, from there you can download and will be automatically added to Flashtool when finished.

Need to Flash but USB not working
Hi all,
I want to flash the factory ROM without usb cable. Is there any tool available to flash without data cable?
There is some issue with motherboard where I can only charge it by turning mobile off. So I cant detect or charge it when mobile is ON. Is anyone faced same issue?
I tried converting .ftf file to zip so that i can flash it using CWM. But got stuck in the middle.
Please share stock ROM in zip format if anyone has.
Thanks,
Karthik

[Q] N00bQuestion about Flashing...

Hi, i'm from Colombia, and I have this Sony Xperia E C1504, Rooted with SRSRoot, but my current firmware is 11.3.A.0.56, and i find this http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-j-e/general/how-to-xperia-e-c1505-firmware-11-3-2-t2435957 (Firmware 11.3.A.2.23), I have some questions, i'm sorry i'm newbie here, doing this, the only thing i flashed was an old tablet with 2.3.3GBread.
1. Will this firmware work for me? ( i have C1504 and it says C1505, also, im From Colombia, does it matter?
2. My phone is rooted, do i need to flash the kernel when i move (if i can) to 2.23 in order to root like is shown?
Ty for your time, i just had to ask
Okay, firstly, there isn't any firmware with build number 11.3.A.0.56 - I'm taking it you have 0.47 instead of 0.56.
Sure, you can install it - I have a C1504 too, and I think it is safe to say that you can use any Xperia E firmware - even the Xperia E dual ones (C1604 or C1605).
and about root?
Sir, thank you, i have one more question. My phone is rooted with this current firmware, in order to root the 2.23 Firmware here's how to do it:
1. Flash kernel 11.3.A.0.47
2. Root your XE using Framaroot. (Gandalf exploit)
3. Flash kernel 11.3.A.2.23
But, since i've my phone rooted, do i need to follow the steps above?

Okay... I didn't even know that we had a 0.56 firmware....
@XperiaEss Unlocked bootloader and fastboot aren't needed to flash FTF files; only flash mode is required for that, and flash mode works on locked bootloaders too.

So, can i do it, right? Flash that firmware to update it, i've used titanium backup, and everything is now in mi SD.
But, in order to root? do i need to flash kernel? is that the only way ?
@leolook Yeah, sorry we took it a bit off-topic. If you mean you want to upgrade to 2.23, downgrade to 0.47 kernel, use Framaroot and then upgrade to 2.23 kernel again - sure, no problems. LOng as you have a Titanium backup or Nandroid, you're fine.
@XperiaEss Those can be flashed via fastboot, which needs an unlocked bootloader (unfortunately).
@NSDCars5
so.... boot.img in roms work with flashing with CWM

Probably, but you also need to modify the updater-script (in META-INF/com/google/android) to extract the file. The line will read something like:
Code:
package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p3");
(This one was from jjm34's CM10.)

(for me) Flashtool is the best way to unlock/relock bootloader. its hassle free you dont need cmd promt.
heres the download link http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
if you still got bootloop, flash your device to to your stock FW/FTF
if you dont have your device back up
just search your stock FW in C2104 section here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/general/sony-xperia-l-flashable-ftfs-locked-t2560642
you should know your device model and build number..
NOTE: you need to root your device first in order to use Flashtool..
after flashing stock FTF reboot and wait.. it just takes time...

Flashing a stock ftf NEVER needs rooted device.
And you can still flash if it's in bootloop. Search in the general info thread and you'll find complete tutorials.
You can download your required stock ftf from here

[Rootable Kernel/ TWRP 3 - E6833/E6853/E6883 Marshsmellow ] [32.1.A.1.163] AU]

Okay here we go,
Marvelous Super-Huge Thanks to

and helping me out with the kernel.elf situation.
@KbaB.BroS for testing and confirming. <== E6853
@Ashray_Vk for testing and confirmation <== E6883
@Neil_Armstrong_ for testing and confirmation <== E6833
The boot.img uses the bootrec setup.
Flash via fastboot
fastboot flash boot E6853_MM_ROOTABLE_PERMISSIVE_boot.img
Note: You DO NOT NEED TO ROOT YOUR DEVICE to perform root operations via adb shell !
just plug in open a terminal on pc and run
adb root
adb remount
adb shell
Use @Chainfire 's latest SuperSU, this version will apply root to the boot.img (system-less root).
I have not activated my phone so i will need some confirmation as to the correct function
of communications.
There are no additional modifications to the kernel other than what androplus has already
introduced to his kernel sources.

TWRP 3 has an issue with no adb access, i'll figure that out when I do.
I am fairly certain it is in one of the init.*.rc files
I recommend users of AndroPlus 's twrp build to remain with that build unless there is an issue.
I mainly wanted twrp 3 because of the improved terminal. =)

I assert that external storage read/write is now functional for this recovery build in conjuction with the provided boot.img/kernel build.
It is the setup I am using. My external card is 128gb exfat format. Any issue from here foward is of user error or format/condition of external card.
I did notice in one instance, that removing the external card, inserting into a card reader on pc and removing/deleting the following items
.android
Android
customized_capability.xml
Then reinserting card into phone did appear to restore access. If you left your card in the phone the entire time your ran LP through to the time you updated to MM, then remove the card and perform the above, and you should be sorted.
There is a backup issue with this TWRP build in that backups made to an exfat formatted external card must be uncompressed as there seems to be an issue/error/bug with libtar.
I do not intend to continue any additional projects on this front as I am trying to get a build of cm13 working.
I am not taking any requests, outside of attempting to fix anything goofy/wrong in this kernel build.
I have attached my kernel defconfigs for the E6853 and E6883/E6833
I am working off of the MM AU firmware release E6853_32.1.A.1.163_1299-1469_R3C.ftf

I also remember that androplus had done a kernel for the z5p dual too, but he abandoned it later.
And yes, the e6883 is the dual version
Firstly, thank you moonbutt74.
Secondly, I require some clarification or rather steps in which to get this on to my device and working.
I am currently running Lollipop, Boot Loader Unlocked and rooted via Androplus' method then running Auras' ROM based on the .200 firmware of Lollipop. Ideally I want to be able to retain my data but do I install Marshmallow before proceeding with what is written in the original post here?
A quick step-by-step guide would be massively appreciated as I do not want to end up twiddling my thumbs and having to go through the process several times and still fail to achieve the desired result.

Hi, I'm sorry but that is not within the scope of this disaster.

Okay seriously though, the instructions for flashing the images are in OP, the most reliable means to back up your data
is to use adb provided your phone is rooted, or just copy over from MTP if on Windows.
Firmware flashing is covered elsewhere. If i have the chance I will do a How-to for that exercise in general but in General.

Do you have unlocked bootloader? If yes can you try http://munjeni.myiphost.com/new_boot.img ? I have included recovery inside that boot image, hope it working. To enter recovery press any volume button till after yellow indicator, blue led will come up (in case recovery boot) or in case no volume pressed red light will come up (indicator for android boot)... do in mind only for unlocked devices, do not flash on locked device!

Any idea when support will come to flashtools for the XZs? I need to flash over to an international FTF. The USA model lacks Finger print scanner, and if not Flash tools,
are there other options?

Can't tell that since don't know about functionalitty of the your device after flashing an international rom! You can try. This is not ftf flasher hope you know that, to flash things please look into first post https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/dev-xflasher-command-line-flasher-t2986634 about "how to use" ! FTF (Flash Tool Firmware) is part of the flashtool, but xflasher is totaly diferent flasher, you can't use ftf with xflasher!

Hi, its not a full backup, instead it create .ta backup and it is not like raw backup aka .img like you do with https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642081, tool only dumps important units, unit 1046b which contain drm key can't be backuped, it can be dony only in enginering mode (test point mode), and there is some tool for reconstructing trim area https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/dangerous-tool-trim-tool-t3516007 from that .ta backup but it is useles since drm key unit is missing
Gotcha. You should note that in the title or first post. Thanks anyway. the issue I am having is there is no support from Flash Tools for the XZs at the moment.

But did you tried xflasher?
I didn't. If anything happens, I can't flash/restore. no support available for that

You can try flashing only cache just to see if it flash it! Somebody allready succesfully flashed cache https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72079994&postcount=84 which mean it will flash the rest without problem, but again try first an basic flash aka cache.sin to see if it realy working for your device!

In recovery it comes, but does not respond to touch and nothing is possible .Loading also impossible system. Patched kernel itself, it came loaded into the system, but no rekaveri. Without recovery and Root did not get it.

So recovery is booting? You can look into dmesg of the recovery for more idea, probably something missing in recovery since I have used stock kernel, error can be seen in dmesg!
