installing google dialer on honor 8 - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

i couldn't install the google dialer apk on my honor 8 phone (FRD-L04). Tried sideloading various versions of it downloaded from apk mirror, nothing get installed.
Could somebody help out if you have managed to install the same

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.dialer

Google store says my phone isn't compatible.

Are you rooted?
Is your phone rooted? It's the only way this will work.
Take this apk, use a root file explorer (I like solid explorer) and copy it to root/system/priv-app. Then edit the read/write permissions ( I usually enable everything).
You can also use link2sd to make the apk a system app.
Then just reboot your phone and you should be good to go.
You'll have to go to apps, settings, pick defaults, and choose it as the dialer.
Also, if you are rooted, you can then delete the stock dialer, but be careful, you might delete the wrong thing and then no phone for you. (I had that issue, but a kind forum member was able to get me the missing apk)
If somehow it DOES get messed up, you'll have to reflash via dload, or get the correct apks and place them on priv-app (again, if you're rooted)

thanks for the reply.. i don't want to root my phone though..

yeah same here...
Not sure how the compatibility check works..
Google has published these contacts and Phone / dialer app in play store. but its not installable in all phones..
i followed another thread..
and installed google contacts sync apk, (gave it all permissions) then contacts apk and then dialer apk, this way i am able to get the dialer app installed (but its version 3.x only, other versions i couldn't get install),
Now i got the Dialer icon (blue) one it opens the regular dialer interface. but when i make call the interface goes to Honor 8 dialer app interface.. not sure how this works..

I know this is a few months old...
I was looking for a higher version number of Google Dialer that could be compatible with the Honor 8.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only version compatible: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...71529-nonnexus-android-apk-download/download/
I've used this very same version on my Moto X Pure.

This is best compatible with AOSP ROMs.

Wasn't the first question about installing Google Dialer on an Honor 8? It was even stated that they tried to sideload multiple different versions as well... from APK Mirror... the same place I shared the link from. I merely wanted to state that the version I linked to is the last version that I know personally works on phones that aren't Nexus/Pixel. All you can do is try it or not. It works. Just download, install normally, set it to default app.

The dialer installs just fine on the honor 8. I'm running it right now. There's a few threads about how to do it correctly here on XDA. First rule, search before asking.

This isn't a new thread - it's months old. Someone just resurrected it by adding a new comment. And yes, the app can be side loaded onto the Honor 8, but it will only be the dialer and contact list UI. The in call UI will remain stock and caller id will not work.
Results with rooted devices may vary though.

Video of Proof!!!: Add Google login in account settings!!!!!!

Original: Got the phone perfect. I mean perfect. Now I just want the add Google account in the settings section of the phone. What files in the root control that. It should not be this hard to get that in there. I gave it the best shot I could. I am giving it to the forum to try to come up with a solution. The stuff done here, this should not be a problem.
Edited: 1/25/2016
Here is the video of the results of the mod.
Steps
Use the included recovery flasher to change back and forth between recoveries.
1.Worked best for me with a fresh install. I used B112 - Rooted device after installation
2. Install playstore and google play music Gapps from the HiApp store that’s on the phone.
3. Login to google play and update google play services when google music ask you to.
4. After that use a system app uninstaller(download below) and use it to move google play as a system app. After that:
Uninstall:
• Baidu
• Hicare
• Huawei IME
• Huawei Swype
• iReader
• Netease News
• Sohu TV
• Vmall
• The Microphone with the Chinese writing “hahaha”
• Driving Mode
• Game center
• Hivoice
• Huawei Wallet
• HuaewiPay
• Skytone
• Exchange Services – if you don’t want to use it
• Browser
• Email – if you don’t use it
Reboot phone.
5. Install es explorer and enable root permissions, delete the CUST folder. And copy and replace the build.prop file in the system directory with the one that is included. Change permissions to rw-r-r- using es explorer.
6. Copy “Google Accounts Cust Folder.zip” to phone or flash card
7. Reboot into twrp and install the zip file
8. Reboot phone and launch the recovery installer (must be in developer mode and enable usb debugging for the recovery app to automatically reboot your phone in to fastboot) Install the original recovery back.
Reboot.
9. Goto backup and reset and do a Factory data reset but don't delete files.
10. When you log back in you will have a google account in your setting page.
Mediapad X2 Twrp/Stock Flasher - English.zip Unpack and run
App Backup and Restore.apk - Installation program
Google Accounts Cust Folder Flashable Zip - Flash in twrp
Modified build.prop - Copy to system folder on phone
Update-SuperSU-v2.46.zip - Copy this to phone
recovery.img - Official B112 Recovery
Send me a message if you have any problems.

It won't happen on a 703L. The framework just isn't there. On my 702L I was able to add it from Accounts out of the box. You can still add more accounts, you just have to go to Backup and Reset in Settings and hit Backup Account then hit Add Account. Sorry bro, Huawei makes EVERYTHING difficult.
I have to insert google account through Gmail app or Play store. And to add contact sync for that account, I install "Google Contact sync" from Hiapp. Can not directly add GG account from setting but still perfect with work-around

I got the google account icon in the add google account in the account settings. I had to edit the hw_defaults.xml file in the cust folder. There is a entry in there for google at the bottom that is set for =0. I changed it to =1 and then I installed the original recovery and went back into the phone and deleted my account from the restore and backup section. When I restarted the phone It was in the list. Make sure that all the playstore gapps and services are in the priv-app folder so that they will not get deleted on the restore. Now I am good to go. I'll put pics up in a minute. You can add it to your rom if you have not already done so.

After changing that value to 1 (I did it in each cust folder just to be sure) when I hit add account Google still doesn't show up. Maybe it has to be added before we flash as I'm sure that value probably modifies some other value in another file somewhere.

You have to reset the install the original recover and go into settings and delete the profile through that. Worked perfect on my end. I might give it a try on the simply Google. I sold all my backup phones so I can't risk being down for more than 4hrs doing a restore.

I am going to get the le max pro after this. Still huawei forever. Just love my China phones. I'm going to set this this up for my 3 year old boy. HE iS A Genius. I don't know where the kids get the smarts from so fast, little koker can barley make complete sentences but he can operate my tablet, my phone, my PC server, etc. Little man can get any learning utensil that I can give him.

I don't really care about the fact it will be the fastest chip. My X2 is faster than my Note 4 (gave the wife the Nexus 6 because she got fed up with her Note 4 so now I have the note 4 as an extra phone) and the Kirin 930 is supposedly much slower than the Snapdragon 808. I used to buy into all the spec war crap but now I've wised up a bit in my old age I guess. Unlocking Qualcomm bands doesn't always work and a lot of time some are missing anyway.

[7.0-7.1] How to achieve Pixel Features and Look on any Rooted Android Device

Hi! Guys Today I will share a guide on How to achieve Pixel features and look on almost any android device running android Nougat.
What you need?:- A rooted Nougat device, Root file manager(I recommened ES), Brain
Lets start:-
Go into root of your device using your fav. file manager and search for build.prop. Usually it lies in system folder but if not found search it. Open it with any text editor and add this two lines at it's end.
ro.product.model=Pixel XL
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
Now reboot your device.
After your device turns on Clear Google App data.(Clear whole data and not cache only).
Now long press on your device to launch Google assistant:laugh::laugh: .
Now another step.
Open playstore and install pixel launcher and wallpapers by google.
Now you need Link2SD.(Install if not already Installed)
Now open Link2SD find & convert Pixel launcher and wallpapers into system apps and reboot again. (This step enables Google Now on swipe).
Now Download the boot animation app by Jrummy from playstore and install the boot animation zip i provided or manually push it into your system where your boot animation is stored.(Normally it's stored in system>media)
Copy audio files and replace it with your default files in system>media>audio.
Now if you want more follow:- (Not recommened for CM users but i hadn't encountered any problem on my CM though )
Download substratum from Playstore and Pixel Ui which is similar theme for this app and apply it via the substratum. Reboot
Cm users can skip many steps and use any pixel theme and icon pack from Playstore and apply it via Themes app natively installed.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
It's Done. Now enjoy all features and look of Pixel on your device.
While i encountered that google assistant doesn't recognize your voice I can't do anything for it now. I will keep looking to make it work but it will take time.Sorry.
You can also just download the launcher and wallpaper and install it. It still works that way. Also you can manually push them into system if required. But i suggest you to use bootanimation via substratum only as i pulled the zip file from PixelUi.
Here is a thread on Pixel experince you may want to take a look here too if you want to avoid so much work and go for flashing zips:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...xel-experience-launcher-dialer-t3478907/page1
Tips:- Signup for google beta tester on playstore and update your google app to latest beta version for seamless google assistant work.
You may add those two build.prop at the end and don't change your default model number. It will still work.
Boot animation have a huge chances to work normally as the just conatin minimal animations and cover center of screen. So try it out and tell me.
This is my first guide. Please PM me or quote if you have any doubts before rating my guide bad.
Thank me if you liked my guide and my assistance.

Probably worth mentioning that I'm running Leedroid, so maybe that has something to do with it?
What i did was download the Google dialer and contacts for OP5/5T from the magisk app. After you download it get a file manager and extract the whole folder. Go to the system->priv-app and delete the OPInCallUi folder. Than rezip the whole folder and rename it so you know which is which. Go to magisk manager app->modules than click the plus sign on the bottom find your modded zip and flash. I have had this mod since Feb 28 and it has updated from playstore with no issues and works like it should.
Edit: on Leedroid rom current stable relaease.

Hi dear, did you find a way?
The link posted above version v23.0.208561757 works fine for me to get it installed you'll need to uninstall any other version of google phone you have installed
you will need to set it as default, as well as in the app info screen you'll need to give it write over and modify system settings permissions
I've been running it on Stock non rooted 8.0 on my US unlocked U11 since the version came out.

Downgrade back to EMUI 9 possible?

Hi All,
I was wondering whether its currently possible to downgrade back to EMUI 9? I received my Mate 30 Pro today (Model LIO-AL00), and it came with Android 10 out of the box. It has also applied a bunch of updates and I am now on 10.0.0.135.
I have tried the various guides to side-load Gapps via the backup method. Whilst the Gapps install, I can't open them. LZplay also doesn't want to start. I've tried all sorts of guides (including: https://www.gearbest.com/blog/how-t...ll-google-apps-gms-on-huawei-mate-30-pro-8639) but they all fail.
I also stumbled across the thread that talks about using Virtual Exposed (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-30-pro/how-to/microg-t3977821). I can get Virtual Exposed installed, and the play store installed, but it doesn't open either.
So, I was wondering whether its possible (somehow?) to downgrade back to EMUI 9, so that I can use the LZPLAY method?
Thanks!!

I had seen that post, and I had tried it yesterday without any luck.
This morning I reset the phone and started again. Following the link from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-30-pro/how-to/install-gms-google-play-store-t3992095
I managed to restore the HiSuite backup (only apps and settings)
Installed Google Apps fine
Started LZplay, but then get connection errors (see screenshots)
Do I need to VPN into China for this to work? Because the phone is trying to get to https://api.lzplay.net, which no longer exists.
It also tries to go to http://configdownload.dbankcdn.com/ which is also throwing an error.
Any ideas?

Hi Mate, I have done that, but none of them work. These instructions all follow the same pattern, and I have tried 4x different methods now. None work.
NOTE one thing: I cannot use HiSuite 9.0.3_300 to restore the LZplay backup. I am forced to use 9.1.0_309OVE because of the Android version on my phone. That is the ONLY thing that deviates from the instructions!
This one doesn't work: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ma...all-google-service-huawei-mate30-pro-t3992171
This one doesn't work: https://lmphotography641.wordpress.com/2019/10/27/installing-google-play-store-for-mate-30-pro/
I can get the backup restored and all apps installed, but they just don't work . I made this video show the situation; https://youtu.be/BkAxzTzwPuQ
Should this still work with a later version of HiSuite?

This one doesn't work: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ma...all-google-service-huawei-mate30-pro-t3992171
This one doesn't work: https://lmphotography641.wordpress.com/2019/10/27/installing-google-play-store-for-mate-30-pro/
I can get the backup restored and all apps installed, but they just don't work . I made this video show the situation; https://youtu.be/BkAxzTzwPuQ
Should this still work with a later version of HiSuite?

So lzplay has admin rights? Have you tired istalling the Google apps again over themselves without uninstalling them first?

OK, I FINALLY managed to get it working. I followed these instructions:
Download and unzip the lzplay package (this contains the most important application data to be restored, please do not confuse with the newly downloaded lzplay package)
2, connect Hisuite (pc Huawei mobile phone assistant) click data recovery
3, find lzplay decompression package, only restore applications and data (only restore assistant application and application data, application data is the most important! application data is the most important! application data is the most important!) does not restore system settings!
4, restart the phone after data recovery
5, then download the corresponding version of the Google package and install (corresponding to the Google package and lzplay link below) Note: Install these Google packages based on all permissions
6. After the installation is complete, open the Google Service Assistant and activate the device manager.
7, restart the phone after activation is complete
8, open the settings drop-down to see if there is a google icon, if there is, then the installation is successful, if not, repeat the installation steps
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Open GMAIL first, register your account, and Google Play should then also start working.
The first couple of times I tried to either add a Gmail account or go directly to the Playstore, which didn't work. Now I opened Gmail, added my address, signed in and it all started working!
Thanks for all your input guys. Much appreciated!!

[root] Playing around and accidentally uninstalled the play store - how to undo?

So, this is my first time rooting a phone, and once I managed to get it to work, I started playing around to see what capabilities I had now.
In doing this, I uninstalled the play store. I've tried multiple methods to reinstall it, but none have worked so far.
I've tried installing a new play store apk and used systemize to turn it into a system app, but that didn't work (the app crashed on launch)
I've also tried using link2sd but the app wouldn't let me convert to system app.
If anyone else has any tips for me I'd be grateful.
Using a samsung running android 11 - rooted with magisk, recovery method.
Copy it from another device using ApkExport then transfer the installable copy over to the victim device and install.
I haven't tried it with Playstore but it works on other apks even if the donor device is on a different Android OS version.

sadly the only other device i have is a samsung galaxy S2 that is barely functional. I doubt that'll work.
Before you do anything I'd make sure you have a good backup of your device. Copy text messages, contacts, photos, etc all to external storage.
My first thought was just download install APK, but I see you've done that.
Someone else may have a better suggestion, but, if nothing else works, I'd try installing pico GApps to restore Playstore functionality.
https://opengapps.org/
Pico PackageThis package is designed for users who want the absolute minimum GApps installation available. In this package you will find the core Google System Base, Google Android Shared Library, Google Play Store, Google Calendar Sync, Dialer Framework and the following Play Store applications:

Try it. It will copied system apks and updates.
I copied apks from a S4 running on Kitkat to my Note 10+. If it loads Playstore will need to update, that may be a problem... or not.
APK Export (Backup & Share) - Apps on Google Play
Manage and extract your apps.

Google Play Store app by type is a normal 3rd-party app. Wondering why you want to convert it to a system app?

Yeah it's a system app on my Note 10+, can't be uninstalled*.
Normally it doesn't crash although it's common for it to not connect to Playstore. It does that if Google play Services is disable but even then it doesn't crash.
* I think, it has a disable option but to find out if there's an uninstall I would need to revert to the factory load first... which isn't something I want. It appears to be as I originally stated.

there is no uninstall option. I uninstalled it through other means as my phone is rooted. Now I'm having issues re-installing it and getting it to work.
My last 2 cents here:
Per definition only apps that are needed by Android OS to work are called system apps and are stored in /system/apps. Other apps - called 3rd-party apps like Google Play Store - may be stored in /system/priv-apps.
BTW:
If you manually install Google Play Store APK then it installs to /data/app directory - as expected.
