hello everyone, i just got my HTC Mogul (Sprint PPC-6800) and i love the device, except for the memory card i have is corrupt and i cant format it. any file i put on there, program, music, anything gets corrupted and wont work. I cant delete the my documents folder that is the only file on there and is what i believe is causing the corruption, does anyone know how to fix this?
Try formatting it on your pc?
Like he said, you might have to use a media card reader on the pc side to format it.
I tried that and it doesnt work on the PC, it says Windows cannot format the device. Any other way to do it?
put it in a camera? do you have an adaptor?

I'm sorry you've run into the same problem I have.. Its the micro SD card that has failed. You may be able to get a little longer use from it doing what I did but ultimately you need a new micro SD card.
I got one of the cheap chinese MP4/MP5 players that use SD cards and used an SD card reader with my micro SD card in it..
If you don't use this your PC will refuse to have anything to do with your micro SD card.
I formatted the disc with the player and then used my laptop to format it again to FAT32 at least 16 sectors. This woke the micro SD card, it still has I/O errors and it misbehaves a lot but its at last usable and its 2GB can retain 800MB. It will hold until I get a new card...
The moral is to save your backups to your PC so you can buy a new card and restore to it..

I have an annoying problem with my orbit2 and its sd-card: every now and then the orbit corrupts the card so that the explorer does no longer list any files or directories. the files seem to be still present though as the memory manager claims the space still occupied. looks like the FAT is smashed somehow.
this happend with the standard 1gb card several weeks ago and now again with my new 4gb card as well. the problem this time is a) i want to get the data back and b) ensure this won't happen again.
i cant access the card by one of my two cardreaders, they get both stuck when the card is inserted.
i already googled around for some hours and of course tried to find a problem description in here but didnt find satisfying results ;-(
any of you got some information and suggestions 'bout this problem?

My orbit 2 hasn't currupted my 4gb MicroSD card. I formatted it into FAT32 before I put it in my phone, so that might be why. Doesn't FAT have a limit of 3.5gb or sommat, where as FAT32 is much more.

i will try to get a cardreader that can deal with sdhc cards and then try to check the card again .....

I have considered that possibility... or maybe some particular configuration of one of the programs installed.
But I haven't changed anything in about four days... then only today the problem occurred. Only thing unusual I did today was take a bunch of photos and shoot some 4 or five 1 minute videos... could it be a problem related to CorePlayer/Camera/Video recording??
When I got back and synched it, the sd card was messed up... but I still could read my photos through the phone... then after a soft reset, the phone was not able to read my sd card anymore...
coreplayer is installed on my device as well but i don't think its related to it (just a feeling though)
the more interesting point is that you tool some photos .... i'm not totally sure but i've taken some pictures recently before the crash as well and they get saved to the storage card on my device ....
i will switch the save location back to main memory now for testing purposes and wait some weeks if theres no better idea

I had the same problem with my 8GB SanDisk card every two or three days until recently. Two things changed:
1. flashed bepe's WM6.1 image
2. didn't install MortPlayer yet which I had running before
Now everything seems to be working fine. No problems for a week now.
I thought maybe there's a bug in WM6.0.
hmm i don't wanna install an unofficial WM update or ROM on my cellphone ... no problem doin' stuff like this on my pc or satellite receiver but my cell is kept clean
hope there will be a regular update then soon ....
...my experiences:
I had several crushes of the SD card, where I have lost almost all of the content. First lesson:
Backup/Sync SD with my PC regularly, so this is more a time issue now
Second:
I have discovered, that the loss happens (at least valid for me) when:
- device wake up from standby by pressing power button
and
- a program is running, which accesses data on SD card, like MP3 player, ebook reader or Navigation. All of them sores data on SD card.
Possibly a bug in the card handling part of code, where data/buffer is being written falsly, during wake up of the SDdevice.....
Can somebody proof that?

I also encountered the first problem of this kind today:
Although I can still take photos on the card and they claim to be stored in /DCIM/100MEDIA/IMAGxxxx.JPG, the DCIM is shown totally empty when trying to access it via Explorer.
When I try to open the DCIM Directory with the tool Total Commander, the tool shows up an "Error 13 at directory change".
Does this mean my card is defect now? All the other directories seem to be okay. It is the original card I got with the XDA with TomTom installed on it. So I guess I might take it back to my provider.

I have the same card.
Even the same problem for a few times. For me a soft reset solved the problems. I had no data loss. So I would assume that it's a problem of the phone not being able to read the card properly for some reason.

I have an 8GB SD card and some of my folders vanished while some remained. All the files in the root are gone.
I used an SDHC reader to check on my PC and it cannot see the missing folder either.
Any suggestions for a good freeware MicroSD data recovery?
I guess the theory of the phone going standby while an app is writing to a buffer in the card is causing the big mess is right...

If windows is using write back cacheing and the device switches off with the file data in the cache then maybe the card FAT is being corrupted
the artemis had this same problem, have a look in the sticky at the top of the artemis threads for the fix (it's worth reading), maybe it will work for the polaris, luckily I don't have one yet so I can't try it myself.

thought I lost all in my memory card (sandisk 6Gb) . That happened after reinserting the card in the cruise .
I found with the explorer that my card was empty ....but , I found also a card number 2 .
During the time when my card was out the Cruise , I used probably a program who needed a storage card . So I think (but maybe I'm totally wrong) that WM6 created a virtual card within the PocketPC .
So when I put my Sandisk back , A (virtual) storage card was already in the PocketPC . So my Sandisk has been renamed Card 2 .
I removed the Sandisk , deleted the Storage card (empty) with the explorer , and reinserted my Sandisk again .
Everything is OK .
In fact , nothing disappeared .
Is anyone else having issues with their sd card corrupting? I have an 8gb class 6 transcend card and it has corrupted 3 times in the last month. I always unmount the card in windows before unplugging the phone. It seems to do it when I'm writing to the sd card from the phone.
The first time I noticed it was when I deleted a picture with built in photos app.
The next time was today when I made a nandroid backup before applying an update (theme). The nandroid backup finished and when I went to apply the update it came up with an error (I didn't reboot between the backup and applying the update). I reset the phone and the sd card was unavailable.
At one point I did have the card partitioned with the apps on one partition. When it corrupted I reflashed the phone back to 1.42 and left the apps on the phone. I went back to one partition and left it at that (fat32).
I don't know if I just have a bad card or something else is going on. I never had any problems with 1.41. However because it did it while doing a nandroid backup would that rule out the software version?
I would like to find a solution, as I don't trust the card anymore without backing it up frequently.
i've had it happen once (files names corrupted) but assumed it was down to the card as i had the same happen when it was in my N95, i've now bought a new card and i'll see how it goes.
When mine goes down, it seems like it kills the partition. When I open a disk manager I don't see a partition on the card anymore.

Yea your card is pretty much dead... this also happened to me yesterday on my 4 gig card... yyour card will still work however reformatting or creating anymore partitions won't help bring it back.. for future update.zips or recovery boots upload your update files to your stock 1 gig card.. remember to always safely remove hardware with any card mounted to the to a computer..
YES - and not only have I had the same problems, it's with the same brand card! Transcend 4 GB Class 6.
My phone started having issues where I installed an application and it would act wonky, then if I tried to reboot it'd lock up into an infinite loop.
The last couple of times, I solved the loop by doing a fsck on the partition in GParted (booted into a GParted Live instance from a laptop using a USB stick). The problem reoccurs though, making me think there's something problematic with the card.
There's an app in the thread on the cheap 8 GB cards (of which I'm holding my recently received shipment . There's an app in that thread used to test write performance, but it does some crude error checking, and I had an issue when I did that test.
I'm going to do a partition clone and report back.
my dodgy card was 4GB Kingston, one interesting problem i had with it was video refused to play, i could read and write the file fine but android would refuse to play it and meridian video player would report the wrong pixel size, time and codec which had me confused all last weekend.

I'm wondering if maybe moving the caches to SD isn't the greatest idea, since these devices aren't meant for continuous writes. If I have more issues, I might just move the caches back to the onboard memory.

Yeah, that worried me as well, so I moved my caches back to the main storage and only have app, app-private and data symlinked to the card.
If you are having problems after moving apps and data to your ext2 partition, you have to push the original init.rc and mountd.conf back onto the phone so you can wipe to card fully and restore it to the FAT32 file system.
I had a similar problem on my tmobile wing (variant of the Atlas which is a modified version of the Herald) running Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Mobile 6.1. I think it was also when I used the SD card as a place to store cache for PocketIE. Maybe that's the issue, using it as cache storage. (This is my theory, not something that has been confirmed.)
g1 sd card deletes itself
I am on my 4th sd card. I am not sure what is corrupting/deleting my data. I can copy over some music/video/pdfs/wtfevers and it'll stick around for awhile. Then BAM, music folder empty(had 1 gig of music in it). BAM, 1 of 3 video files corrupted. OH wait, now all 3 are gone. awesome. I keep a backup on my pc so I can copy it all back over once it goes south. I have the doodledroid drawing app on my phone and the folder will go corrupt - not allowing me to save an image until I delete the folder so it can reinitialize(create a non-f'ed up folder). Also, my picture thumbnails get f'ed so I have to delete that folder so the G1 can remake a new non-corrupted set. My PDFs disappeared about 3 days ago. Cards all formatted fat32. blah.
Frustrating.

mlevin: I have that card. It's been fine...until I believe the other day. I was running 5.01H w/ apps to sd and my battery had died so I charged it. Upon turning it on the android screen kept looping as though it wasn't mounting the card. Worse came to worse and I had to end up reformatting the card and starting from square 1. Now that I reformatted it, I'm getting "insufficent space" errors when trying to install paid apps even though I did everything right.
I'm wondering if it is the card.....
I've tried 2 different Sandisk Ultra 64GB microsd's...the first I formatted inside the phone.....the 2nd I took straight out of the packaging and put into the phone..in both cases after a random amount of time I found the microsd corrupted. In the most recent case I tried putting some books onto the card via adb push only to have it inform me that the sdcard was a "read only filesystem"....I then went into es file explorer and tried to browse the card...the "Android" folder was still readable but all other folders now appeared to be some type of file because when I clicked on them it popped up a panel asking me to tell it what sort of file it was....text, video...etc.....after rebooting the phone it would not even mount the sdcard.....I've taken it out and put it on my laptop to run an fsck (linux version of chkdsk) on it and it's finding all sorts of issues:

As much as I have loved the phone if it's going to continuously lose data I'm going to have to send it back. The first microsd came out of my old phone and had worked fine in it....to avoid issues I let the phone format it....sandisk is THE name when it come to sd cards in my opinion so I have a hard time believing it's any sort of quality control issue...especially since I tried two different cards...the 2nd one being brand new out of the packaging. Comments appreciated.

I formatted it on my PC before using it.
So far, I haven't had any problems.
Loaded pictures, ringtones and a number of apk's to install.

While I'm willing to try it I would think formatting it on the PHONE would ensure it was in the format it needs to be.....however linux by default uses the fat32 (or fat 16/fat12 depending on size of media) filesystem when fat is chosen. It doesn't have support for exfat. I'm going to try picking up a cheap 32gb from PNY or some other manufacturer than sandisk and see how it behaves.

Do you ever use adb to push files to the phone? It seems whenever the corruption is noticed I have either just put some file on...am in the process of putting files on or just put some on recently via adb push <filename> /storage/sdcard1/<folder> If not what most common method do you use to get files from your pc to your phone storage?

I just plug it in , and Windows 7 mounts it as Portable Media Player - and from that point on, just copy to, or delete from, the folders. Works for both internal storage, and the micro SD. So far no issues. I have a cheap and slow 32 GB card .
Sandisk 32GB class 10 user here with no issues. I did have some issues when I connected my phone to the computer through a non-OEM USB cord though...

Same here, a Scan Disk Extreme SDXC 64GB UHS-I/U3 right out of the package and into the phone. No problem storing media or apps to it here thus far.

Same here, a Scan Disk Extreme SDXC 64GB UHS-I/U3 right out of the package and into the phone. No problem storing media or apps to it here thus far.
Same got an ADATA 64GB SDXC Uhs1 and straight into the phone from package and has been working fine

My experience was great until last night. I don't know what happened but I downloaded a new app (Cloud Player by doubleTwist) and as it's nearing the end of reading the music on my SD card (a SanDisk Ultra microSDXC 64 GB), it suddenly stops recognizing the files to the point where the phone was no longer reading the SD card at all. I've tried remounting the SD card but to no avail (even after a factory reset). Interestingly enough, I /was/ able to mount it on my old phone (Note 3) and it worked without a hitch, the card wasn't formatted or anything of the sort and the data was perfectly intact. I tried mounting another SD card I had lying around on the Idol 3 and it worked just fine too. So, what the heck? I sent an email to doubleTwist considering that the evidence points towards the problem being a combination of the phone and the app but I'm at a loss here 'cause I don't see how I'm gonna get the Idol 3 to mount my SD card, even if the app is fixed. Maybe get a replacement from Amazon? I'd prefer to avoid that seeing as how my model hasn't been plagued by the issues detailed on this forum (aside from the buggy Tap to Wake function that is).

Yeah I noticed the corruption only seemed to occur when pushing files to the phone via adb. I'm on linux so it doesn't just mount as an mtp device...I've gone to using other methods to transfer files such as airdroid etc and so far the issue has not occurred again.,

Im having some similar issues with my Idol 3 and the SD cards. First I have a 32gb card that was corrupting all new files stored in it... I formated with the phone, and still the problem continues. So I bought a new 128gb (a PNY) on amazon, making sure specs were compatible, and now it keeps unmounting the SD card couple of minutes after reboot or installed.
So far I have tried:
Format the MicroSD in the phone
Format the microsd in the computer (with partition formats Fat32, ext2, ext4)
make the microsd card with several smaller partitions, down even to 32Gb.
restore phone settings.
factory restore the phone.
Test the MicroSD card in several devices (all worked fine).
Even went to cricket wireless and tried the Micro SD card in another alcatel Idol 3 (worked fine there).
So far, nothing seems to make the idol keep the MicroSD working. It just says "SD card unexpectedly removed".
Any suggestions? Could it be the SD card or the Idol 3?

Sadly the answer is "yes"....cause it's more a combination of the two.....I have a samsung 128gb in my idol3 and it runs fine...a 64gb adata also ran fine....a 64gb sandisk repeatedly failed as yours does...and now has failed on a 2nd device so that card is physically bad in some way. You'll basically have to find one the idol3 likes...when in doubt use the brands others have indicated worked for them...I don't recall PNY being listed by someone as "worked for months without issue". I can vouch for Adata and Samsung. An important point to consider is it MIGHT work initially on that idol3 in the store...but more importantly would it still be working 1 month later.....6 months later...etc
I have a 64gb Samsung that corrupted last week after working fine for 4 months. It happened while writing to the SD card. Wife was talking and all of a sudden it stopped saving the pics. Couldn't get anything to read the card so I ended up formatting it in my backup phone. This likely was due to the camera app but thought I'd post just to add my experience
I have a 16gb sandisk from way back in 2012 yet still works lol but I was rinning into some issues this past weekend it kept telling me checking sd card for errors then it would mount and unmount so I rebooted same problem so what idid was to take the SD card out plug it into my PC backup my data even though the data was intact so I backed everything put the card back in turn the phone on and my data was still there I'm not sure if its something related to your issue but right now my SD card is working normally I love it lol

So I just upgraded two moto g 2015 GSM 1GB models to android marshmallow. One that is completely stock using the update directly from motorolla, the other unnoficial ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-13-t3254236. Everything seems to be working fine besides the Micro SD cards (which are Sandisk Pixtor class 10 / UHS-1 cards) (this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sandisk...mory-card-gray-red/1300086.p?id=1219047586662 ). At first, they worked perfectly, and I formatted them both for internal storage. Then, the next day, when I woke up, the CM13 ROM phone said that the SD card is "unsupported" and tells me to reformat it. then, once I do that, the phone gives me an message saying "Attempt to invoke virtual method 'java.lang.String android.os.storage.VolumeInfo.getld()' on a null object reference" I have tried everything I can think of! Rebooting the phones, safe mode, resetting the stock phone, re-installing the CM13 ROM, and trying to re-format the drives on the computer! Please Help!

Everything seems to be working fine besides the Micro SD cards (which are Sandisk Pixtor class 10 / UHS-1 cards) (this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sandisk...mory-card-gray-red/1300086.p?id=1219047586662 ). At first, they worked perfectly, and I formatted them both for internal storage. Then, the next day, when I woke up, the CM13 ROM phone said that the SD card is "unsupported" and tells me to reformat it. then, once I do that, the phone gives me an message saying "Attempt to invoke virtual method 'java.lang.String android.os.storage.VolumeInfo.getld()' on a null object reference" I have tried everything I can think of! Rebooting the phones, safe mode, resetting the stock phone, re-installing the CM13 ROM, and trying to re-format the drives on the computer! Please Help!

Do you really want to use the SD Card as internal. If so, the card will be encrypted and locked to the one device. If not, you have the option to use as a portable card. I actually made no selection, after a few reboots, the nagging notice about the SD Card went away. Card works perfectly as portable storage.
I had the same problem with my moto g 2015 8gb on marshmallow a view weeks ago. I used a transcend 32gb sd card and formatted it as internal storage. One day i recogniced that all my apps on the sd card were gone. The sd card didn´t work anymore, and the phone wanted to format it again, but it didn´t work. I tried to format it on my computer and also with cameras, because I heard this could work, but i always got the error "sd-card locked".
After hours of trying to fix it i got a new card, and all my photos were gone.
I´m not sure if it is the phones fault.

Awe bummer. Are you using the new card as internal storage aswell? Which card are you using? How long have you been using it for? Any problems yet?

I also had the same problem. I failed to find a solution, I had to MiniTool Partition Wizard to format the SD but when trying to format from windows does not work. After that I tried to set it again as internal, but, just as I shot this error.
Same thing happened to me last night when I decided to make my Transcend micro sd to be internal storage. I thought it was just a bad sdcard, turns out Marshmallow bricked it. Any solution yet?
EDIT (02-16-2016): Switched from Internal Storage to Portable Storage today. All headaches are gone.
Not looking forward to this happening to my SD card. The really bad part is that I have a TWRP backup on the SD card; it was set up as internal storage, but my desktop can't see it so I can't copy it over for safe keeping. Therefore the backup will be destroyed along with the rest of the SD card if the SD card is scrogged. This whole internal storage thing just sucks. Can't store Google Music to the SD card as well.

I dont't know what to do. I thought I willnhave more space for my apps and data but the SD card works only for apps

As Internal Storage it will not show up as a separate entity, you access it via Internal Storage. The SD card is now mated to to the phone, it is not independent and cannot be read in any device except in the phone that formatted it.
I just bought a Moto G 2015 8GB ROM phone, it's my 1st smartphone and I also bought a Lexar 32GB microSDHC UHS-1 class 10 sd card.
What I want to do is install my iTunes music folders that are on my Windows 7 PC onto the sd card and install JetAudio app from Google Play Store that is on the phone and play my iTunes music on my new phone.
The sd card is still in the package and have not touched it yet, so my question is, do I install the card on my PC with a microSD card reader and copy paste my iTunes Artist folders from PC onto the card and then insert the card into my phone, -or- do I install the new sd card into the phone first, then select the option for the card as portable storage device( I assume I do get an option for the card on the phone), then plug the phone into my PC using phone to USB cable and then copy paste the iTunes music folders from PC to card on the phone that way. I am not sure which method to do. I believe the phone app Jet Audio can play music files in .m4a file format. But I am not sure about this sd card in the phone selected as internal or portable storage, what happens when I first install the fresh blank card in the phone, will I get an option to select it as internal or portable.

Just don't pick Internal Storage like I did. Neither Google Play nor any of the top music apps I contacted have the capability to store or read from internal storage, and you can't manually put or get files from there either. A ton of other people have run into the same problem. The other problem is that it appears that not many apps have the capability to use internal storage, so if your intent is to make more room on your 8 GB device you will be most likely be very disappointed. If you have a lot a songs like me, I would definitely choose portable storage to save space. on your 8GB. As I recall I had the choice which way to set up the storage when I inserted the card into the phone.
As long as your M4A files are not encrypted somehow your method should be not relevant. I don't know if iTunes does this or not (pretty sure it used to), but if you can play your audio files on your PC with a generic player it should work fine in the phone.
As far as what @pjc123 was talking about, several developers have not yet updated their apps to support Marshmallow's adopted storage of the SD card... I would have highly recommended the 2GB RAM version, but you got what you got. I would first put the card in the phone and allow it to format it if needed but set it up as Portable Storage, then how you move the files is up to you (if you set it up as adopted or internal storage, you can only see the card well it is installed in the phone). If you have a USB 3.0 card reader, it MIGHT be faster to remove the card and put it in a PC and copy the files, or you can just connect via USB and copy and paste the files. If you have a very large amount, I would recommend doing it in smaller blocks rather than all at once. Also remember that if you have a large number of files, they might not all show up in your media player right away, sometimes Android's media databases can take some time to update, give it a while and if they don't show up reboot the phone and give it some time. On the 1GB model people have sometimes noted laggy response well the media databases are updating.
I did not try the internal storage option yet. But if you have issues with your sd card bricked try low level format tool on windows, at least to make it work again. Aldo idk how the encryption actually works but if you want your data back, use the option "quick format, just delete mbr" and use some tool like recuva to fetch the data (if its not encrypted it should work)

I think I jumped ahead too fast, I mean I bought this new 32GB Lexar microSDHC UHS-1 class 10 card and it's still in the package and I had thought that I had a good plan on how to use it (internal or portable) in my Moto G 2015 1GB 8GB Marshmallow phone, I was going to format the card in the phone as 'Portable' but now not so sure, and now need to go back and start over again in the learning curve.
The first thing I would like to know about is the terminology, I know what selecting and formatting the SD card as 'Portable' in the phone means, to me it means you can remove the card and insert it via card reader to my Windows 7 PC and create a new Folders and copy paste music and picture files to the card, but one thing I know about 'Portable' storage is that when the card is in the phone, you cannot move 'apps' to it, I don't think apps will run from Portable storage sd cards.
What has me confused is the term 'adopted storage'. Is adopted storage the same as selecting 'Portable' storage option when the phone formats the sd card?
Or is adopted storage refer to selecting the card as 'Internal' option?
So I am trying to understand, if I select the option for the card in the phone as 'Internal', and the card is 32GB and my phone has 1GB memory and 8GB storage, what does Internal option do?
I mean does Internal add the 32GB to the 1GB memory making phone memory be 33GB? Or does an Internal card add the 32GB to the 8GB phone storage making my phone have 40GB of storage.
So if I format the card as 'Internal', I know that card is mated to the phone and cannot be removed, that's ok but if my phone can have 40GB of storage, I think it's possible to move phone apps to the card when it's formatted as Internal, but how do I get my Windows 7 PC music files to the phone? I am thinking of installing jetAudio music player app onto the phone via Google Play. I am still researching all of this first before I try anything.
No... Adopted storage and internal storage are the same thing (the card is "adopted" by the phone as internal storage). Portable storage is the same as external. As far as the technical difference, you are mostly correct about the portability and use in other devices.
As far as actual storage goes when adopted, it's not as clear cut... In theory is should replace your internal storage (your ~4-5GB of usable space) and give you 32GB of storage, but in actual use in the Moto G it doesn't quite work like that... There are several threads discussing it you can read on.

So not much storage space left. So now I need to find out how you can copy Windows 7 PC music files to the phone. I assume I can't just USB cable the phone to the PC and copy paste music files to the phone, I am assuming that will not work.

It should work fine, in either internal or portable mode. MPT transfer mode built into Android is intended for this purpose.

Ok I have run into a problem. What I did was go buy a micro to PC USB cable, and with no card yet installed on my MotoG3 Marshmallow phone, I plugged the phone into the USB on the PC and powered up the phone, and on the PC window it shows MotoG3 under Computer, but nothing in the blank pane screen, I cannot create a new folder on the phone or copy paste anything to it, when I do try it says device is either not connected or turned off. Help.

oK, what I found out by calling the store here was I need to have Developer options to have phone connect to PC via USB and show, you go to phone Settings, scroll down and click on About phone, scroll down and press Build number 7 (seven) times, then the OS will add the Developer options in Settings under System. I am about to dig into Develop options to get the phone to connect to PC so will update what happens.

ok once you have Developer options showing in Settings, System, click on Developer options and scroll down the screen to under Debugging and turn ON USB debugging. then continue to scroll down in Developer options to Select USB Configuration (MTP Media Transfer Protocol), click it and then in Select USB Configuration screen, click on MTP radio button to turn it ON if it's not already ON. Then with 2 fingers at top of phone screen swipe down to show USB used for charging only touch for more options, press it and change the radio button under Use USB for, press Transfer files (MTP). That should fix the problem and now you can see the internals of your Android Marshmallow phone on your PC screen. Next I am going to attempt to create a new Folder on the phone called Music but I will try that tomorrow. Bye for now.

Just realize that if you pick internal storage, there is no way to copy the music files to the SD card, only to the main storage (Music directory for example), thus eating into your 4.53GB of space. You do not have access to the SD card encrypted ext3 filesystem from your pc. Furthermore the music apps do not have the capability to do this, at least not yet. As portable storage you would have that capability, in fact I just converted internal storage to portable storage for that exact reason. I feel sorry for those that bought 8GB phones thinking that adaptive storage was going to be the cure-all to space issues. I am glad I opted for the 16 GB version.

Update: what I did today was insert the new 32GB SD card into the phone and Formatted it as Internal Storage, then connected the phone to my PC to view phone info and the PC says my Android Marshmallow phone has
5.65GB used of 36.56GB, Android OS 3.47GB , Internal Storage 2.12GB used of 4.53GB, SD Card 55.38MB used of 28.56GB
Then with phone connected to PC I created a new folder on the phone called My Music then in My Music created MP3, then I went into my PC's music folder copied a folder called The Police and pasted that folder in the phone under MotoG3 > SD Card > Music > My Music > MP3
Then disconnected phone from PC and using Google Play on phone searched for a music player app called Power Amp free, (14 day free trial) selected Install and it is now on my phone playing music from the The Police mp3 files. So next I will try copy pasting iTunes folders with m4a music files to phone. All appears to be working ok so far and I do believe formatting the SD card as Internal Storage works and is the way to go. I went into the phone Settings and Apps and tapped on Power Amp to see if it had downloaded to the phone into Internal Storage or SD Card, and it's on the card so I didn't have to move it to the card from Internal. So yes when selecting Internal format for the SD card the new installs will go to the card.
