[Completed] [Android] Hardware Digital Compass is it needed for Google Maps? Or is GPS enough? - XDA Assist

[SOLVED] Digital Compass [built in hardware] is it needed for Google Maps or anything else? Or is the built in hardware GPS enough?
Was looking at the Moto G Plus (4th Gen.). It does not have a hardware Digital Compass.
There was some discussion both ways:
Google Maps will work. Google Maps won't work.
Without a hardware Digital Compass. Will a Compass APP from the Google Play Store along with the built in hardware GPS be a good enough replacement or not?
No links just a quote.
From a xxxx xxxxxxxxx:
"GPS shows location. It will do this on a map in offline mode if you download map data. It will also show you your movements and direction while moving.
But if standing still without a compass, nothing will show if you facing north or south."

[Q] Google Maps question

If this has been answered I couldn't find it, so here goes ...
Is it possible to use a map you made online using Google Maps for navigation on the Maps app? There is a certain way I want to go to a destination and have created the map online but I don't see any way to bring it up and use it for navigation on my phone.
Thanks for any help.

[Q] How do I save my current location using my phone ?

Hello, first of all I apologize if this thread does not belong here and second I have a question and I'm in dire need of an answer: I would like to know if there is a way of saving my current location on google maps using my phone. At this point I would like to mention that I am using a Samsung Galaxy S and my version of google maps is 6.4.0 . I've done some reading around and I've noticed that some people suggested starring the place but that only works if google knows the address of that certain location. I am interested in saving the location of an old fortress located in the middle of a forest and I was hoping someone could help me by explaining how can I do that using my phone while standing in the middle of that fortress. Also I would like to add the fact that I'm not set on using google maps any application that does this and uses a map will do I was just hoping there was a way with google maps since I use that app most often.
You can use my tracks app

[Q] GPS,GLONASS,Navigon India,Offline Maps,Voice guided navigation,Google Earth

Condensing into one thread various queries on above subject :
1) Is MB865 capable of GLONASS or is it a hardware specific feature?
2) Why is Google Earth not available for India in Google Play when we can use it on the pc here? (just looking for thoughts / comments)
3) Why is voice guided navigation not provided for India (Garmin Navigon, Nokia Maps have it & Nokia also has a Nokia Maps multi platform mobile browser app) - (just looking for thoughts / comments)
4) Can anybody specifically share their experience for Navigon India as they are charging mucho bucks for their apps & need to know is it worth??
5) What according to you (especially senior members) are your favorite offline maps apps?? Share the names please.
6) Any other GPS tips / tricks would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I could be incorrect... but I believe that you would need a GLONASS chipset in order to access that Satellite Coordinate system
Please someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
On the lack of Google Services in India... look around for some articles on this... there just may be one that explains the lack of said services... either that or Google just hasn't worked out a deal yet.
I don't live in India, so not much help on the Navigation quality of India Maps....
Oh... and Google Maps has a caching ability builtin to the Labs in Settings. This should cache a 10 mile area that is selected.
Hope this info helps and good luck finding a Nav software you like!!!!

@nephillim - came across an article on the forum somewhere on an modified "Play" store app allowing install options for countries not included for some some app's (but beta bugs & hence not so keen). Appreciate your other inputs. Thanks!

Location

Does anyone have a phone locator app from the play store?
Hello and good day, @MRC_MR . Welcome to XDA! I hope you'll always get the support you require.
However, prior to your next posting, if you are posting a Question Thread, please post it in the Q&A forum. If it is a question within a device forum, using the prefix "Question" is comparable if the option is available.
I've moved your thread to General Q&A.

If you are using an Android device, Google's Find My Device (although I'm pretty sure finding it on https://www.google.com/android/find doesn't require having the app) and I know friends that have Lookout that offer the same functions...
misunderstood the question -- I thought in the context of if it is lost...
Google Maps; You can either share your literal GPS location (latitude & longitude) or share location using a link for a limited or unlimited amount of time....It's what I do/use when needed....
I've heard of Life360 which is very family oriented, but everyone has to be using the app for it to work I imagine....

huh? I'm sorry, I don't understand. Are you asking "And, for example, how are you supposed to do it in [theory] if you were in a forest?"
I've never used Life360, so I can't say, but in Google Maps, you hold any non-street/road location (has to not be a street or road; learned this stupid caveat the hard way that confused me for like 20 minutes figuring out), and either click "share" button or go into the details (raise frame on the bottom), and your GPS location in latitude & longitude will show up in one of the entry details -- even "in the forest" or for any location (I imagine)...
That's how I imagine I would go about it in that circumstance....
