Fingerprint sensor - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Some devices with fingerprint sensor can be unlocked by just tapping the sensor and not pressing any button. But Sony isn't one of them.
Today I found that if I lock the screen and touch the sensor before the screen finished dimming, it will unlock the phone. So the ROM definitely supports it but I think the sensor isn't powered while screen is completely off. Is there a way to change that by modifying kernel or other methods?

[Q] Dresire S - Proximity Sensor Problem

Got a brand new DS couple of days back and....right from opening the box..the first call..proximity sensor is playing up. Most times i have to pull out the battery to end the call.
Tried the following with no result
1) Installed DHD Proximity re-calibrator
2) Factory reset
3) Installed Vitrous Unity 1.27
4) Back to factory rom, blew hard between ear piece and sensors
5) Removed screen protector and tested
I have S- Off and really dont want to go through the pain of visiting HTC. Would greatly appreciate some help here ...as always !
did you press the back button in between the call?
this has happened to me on stock rom only if i press the back button during the call
i haven't tried it on LBC rom yet

I noticed that only half the proximity sensor is visible, the other half is covered by what appears like black plastic part. Is this how it is supposed to be?
My proximity sensor is completely visible.
No..i haven't pressed the back button.

Is it the left sensor of the two sensors?
I have exactly the same problem. The issue seems to be that Desire S proximity sensor active distance is 9cm, when on my older Desire ir is only 1cm.
When working with some Proximity sensor tools, I have discovered, that you need to put your phone like 25cm (have no idea, how many inches) away from any obstacle in 30degree radius. If that is followed, I haven't been able to recreate a battery pull ocasion of sensor failure. However in real life talking, it is impossible to guarantee.
That there must be some sensor configuration possibilities, so that we could decrease sensibility to minimum distance. Such change should solve this sensor bug, as it would be normal operation distance.
Maybe some dev knows, how to play with proximity sensor?
Yeah, I have had this problem a long time with this phone didn't happen that much at first then it became more and more apparent.
Found the problem and solution, it lies with the screen protector, yes it might be transparent but the sensor detects it. Using a sensor testing app from the market it suggested the sensor was covered almost all the time.
So the solution was replace the protector with new one but cut an arc at the top just big enough around the sensor at the top left, easy fix now in call screen is more responsive.

Proximity sensor
I've been having the same issue. I gave my DS to the HTC workshop and they said it was faulty hardware. They will be replacing the system board since the sensor is soldered to it (under waranty).
Before sending it in, I tried a few roms and hacks but it was never resolved. I recommend you visit your local HTC warranty center.
I have the same problem with the proximity. I installed an app called Anyunlock which seems to have solved the problem. It seems to be able to wake it when the screen turns off after a call. The app allows you to unlock with the volume key and replaces the lock screen with its own. I hope this keeps working

[Q] Light sensor, how to disable it?

how to disable light sensor for optimus 3d?
You mean the light sensor that controls the brightness of your screen or the light sensor that detects when you are in a call and turns off the screen?
I'm pretty sure you can disable the first one by just turning off Auto Brightness. The second one can't be disabled as far as I know.

Well, I was also wondering because when you turn the phone in talking position but away from your ear the screen is still on, when you get close to the ear the screen get off right away...
Can you change the delay on the proximity sensor at all? When I move the phone away from my head it takes a good few seconds for the screen to come back on meaning it takes me about 5-6 seconds at least before I can hit the end call button.

Flip case - screen off - Any sucess ?

One missing feature of our beloved note it the ability to turn the screen off when closing the cover over the screen.
Also proximity sensor is missing too..
However there are apps that make use of the light sensor to turn off the screen...
I have tested various apps including tasker, locale plugin, smart screen off and so on, which can make use of the light sensor to turn the screen off..
But I find that the light sensor itself is not very sensitive in low light conditions..
Even in a dimly lit room the sensor detects only 0 lux and forces the screen off... Bummer..
Anyone here sucessfully using case close screen off ???????

Ipad and few other devices like nexus 7 makes use of the magnet sensor.. THis is the best way to do it as there is no battery consumption.
Samsung may not have included this as the magnet might interfere with the s pen..

When I load up tasker, it allowed me to create a condition using the magnetic field state. But I'm new to the app and haven't figured out how to use it yet.

How can I disable my proximity sensor?

So I dropped my nexus 5 and the top part of the screen cracked so that the proximity sensor either no longer works or a crack is now covering it (I think its the latter) so that when I'm in a call the screen will black out as if I'm holding it up to my face no matter what even if I tap the power button. Is there anyway to disable it so that the screen is always on during calls? Im on android 4.4.4 and so far I haven't found any solutions yet other than maybe rooting my phone and disabling the hardware itself. Any other solutions?

I don't think it is possible without root, but why don't you root your nexus? it's easy enough and will fix your problem

Night mode turn off while using fingerprint sensor

Does anyone noticed that the night mode is turned off on the lock screen untill we unlock it with our fingerprint. I also noticed this in some apps that require fingerprint that nightmode automatically turns off when device needs to scan fingerprint and turns back on after it's done

I noticed that fingerprint unlock doesn't respect the display calibration settings. Since my screen has a noticeable yellow tint without custom calibration, I had to disable it.
