In Call Volume Issue - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I posted this in the Pixel XL forum as well.
So I just recently noticed that I cannot adjust the volume while on a phone call. The volume buttons trigger the slider, and the slider moves, but the volume does not change. Also, the volume slider doesn't go all the way down. It stops at about the 15-20% mark. Here's a screenshot of the volume slider as low as it will go:

After some searching, I found a PIxel User Community post on the same topic, and posted there as well: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/phone-by-google/P0Lc5nX-Huk
I also found a news item from last summer, describing a similar problem with the Nexus 5: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Goog...l-bug-brought-on-by-the-latest-update_id83468
The following description from back then is far too much like what is going on with my phone to be a coincidence:
"Some of the issues that users are complaining about include the inability to adjust the volume during a call, even though the slider does move. Another complaint found on the AOSP Issue Tracker includes one from a Nexus 5 user who is unable to move the volume slider under the second lowest position."

So, is anyone else here having the same issue? Any ideas on a fix?

Have my phone since 15th of Dec and haven't yet seen this issue. Were you just talking on the phone normally by holding it to your ear?

Yes. It was too loud, so I tried lowering the volume, and nothing happened. Pulled the phone away from my ear, and watched the volume slider go down, but no volume change happened.
Now that I'm aware of it, I check all the time, and this happens on every call now.

Mine definitely adjusts the actual volume. Are there any apps or mods you have installed that could interfere with this?

Not that I know of. My bootloader is unlocked, but I have not flashed a custom recovery or rooted. I'm just running stock, with BL unlocked. Not sure what app or apps would cause this issue.

Strange Ringtone Volume Issue (ontop of known delay issue)

When my Verizon TP rings, the volume on the playing ringtones is loud for a second, and then quiet for a second, and then loud, then quiet.....*repeat.....
This is ontop of the already know ringtone delay issue. The delay issue is annoying, but not as annoying and the volume dropping and then coming back over and over while its ringing.
Anyone else dealing with this? Fix? please...

goto settings/phone/voicecommand & check the phone settings and see if you have announce incoming calls checked....if you do, turn it off. If that doesn't work, I don't know....
Well, thanks Chris. That sure did it. I love it when I can get a quick fix in one short blurb..
Although, i have another related Issue. I have voice command v1.6.19972 and it doesn't work for announcing calls. So, disabling it fixed the issue and i haven't lost anything because it never worked anyway. But how do i get it to work? do i need another version of voice command? and if i do get it working and turn on announcing, will the original issue come back?
Cheers

I think NATF's Latest rom and the one he is supposed to release this weekend (3.0)? fixes the VC issue. The fixed version has to be cooked into the rom I believe. I'm using an older NATF rom and mine doesn't work either. I'm probably gonna upgrade this week to his 3.0 version.. Good luck in the mean time....

Screen timeout on calls.

Has anyone discovered a way to keep the screen on longer while on a call?
Is there any way to change this? If I missed another post on this I apologize. Thanks
You can use power manager in the Google Marketplace

One of the best 99 cent app I've ever purchased. Support the Dev, he just lost his job, and the app kicks ass.
Yeah, Power Manager has the option to a max of 2 minutes, but it has never worked for me, it always times out waaay earlier.

i use shake awake free app that causes your phone to turn back on if you move it a certain amount, you can ajust the sensitivity to howevver much you like. mine basically stays on if the phone moves at all while i am on a call
Awesome I will try these. Thanks for the responses.
Power manager doesn't change the timeout for the screen during calls. The only way to change that currently is using the shake program mentioned above. I use both programs and love both of them so when power manager doesn't help with the screen timeout during a call use it for all the other great benefits and select monitor so it can apply the different profiles (which you can customize) for all the situations.
I tired these apps they both seem to work pretty well, any ideas on how this could be done without using an app?

Help with notifications and volume changing

Hello guys,
I'm wondering if is there a way to stop the sound volume changing made by notifications.
I'm explaining better: in any mode, with or without sounds or vibrations, when I'm listening to music or watching some stuff and I received a notifications, for example by WhatsApp or email, the sound becomes lower for a couple of seconds and then return to his previous volume. That's very annoying.
Do you know if there's a way to stop this behavior?

Go to Settings\Sound and Vibrations\ and look for Ascending Ringtone. This setting starts sounds low and raises them as it continues

I've tried it, didn't work, it keeps interruptions
To completely stop notifications from interrupting, you have to disable the notification related to the app.
Settings\Status bar and notification\Manage notification. Select your app and go through available settings. Experiment until you find what you're looking for.
Yes I've tried all the settings, nothing changed. Don't know if it's a bug.
Vivo with Oreo 8.1 does not support separate ringing/sound volume alarm form sound alarm notification.
You have to wait until Pie version arrive that add that useful separation.
Here's how sounds volume works on Pie.

Easiest way is to enable the silent mode from control manager while anytime you are watching videos and don't want the notifications disturb you.
Hope this helps!

Confused by notification sounds under vibration mode

Hi, my Pixel 3a is making a sound whenever there is a notification, although I have set the phone to vibrate (even in the do-not-disturb mode!). I have used Android phones for the past eight years, so I think I am pretty familiar with all the little things with Android, but I am just confused to hell about what is going on. I checked a few settings, and they look okay to me (which means that it would behave "normally" on my old phone). I have media volume set to non zero, but that should not matter as I understand.
I think if I turn off app notification sound in individual app's notification settings it should work, but obviously it is a daunting task that I do not want to bother.
I wonder if you can offer some advice. Thank you.

Yeah this confuses me as well. The only way i found was to tap the notifcation symbol again so it turns to the bell with the line through it. But then theres no vibrate either

I still have the notification sounds under the mute mode (and was again waken by a sound at 5am this morning). I suspected this may have something to do with Google Assistant, and while I am not 100% sure about it, I tried something and it worked for me: I turned off "notification access" (Apps & notifications > special app access, or via search) of "Google" and some other apps, tried to trigger notifications, and the phone vibrated/stayed silent as expected. I turned them back on, and everything still works fine. Hope they do not com back.
You may want to give that a try.
EDIT: DO NOT turn the access back on -- it may fail after you reconnect to your Bluetooth headset.

There is a thread for it now:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe..._bug/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Since these notification channels were implemented, the whole way of the notifications being served got upside down and confusing. R&D forgot at 7.0 already that android is a phone os, some people don't have time to granularly tune each and every app and set the sound and vibrate and other bs.
Same here, Facebook's notifications can come with a weird sound even if I cut off any sound...

S21 bluetooth volume low

I have a galaxy s21. I just got a warranty exchange and I noticed my Bluetooth volume on my car stereo is not at loud as my old phone.
I have both phones in my possession and played the same song individually on each device and I noticed that the new phone's volume is lower than my old one. All the settings are the same on both phones.
Any clue what's going on? Thanks!

I've heard this happen occasionally. Samsung browser sometimes triggers it. Eventually it resets spontaneously. Oddly I haven't seen this behavior for months now. Same load and app versions. It maybe a Developer option setting.
Check all settings again including volume limiting and bt settings in Developer options. Try toggling those, try turning off Disable absolute Volume. Use the master volume control and cycle from zero to 100% a couple times.
Try this as well if the device has this option, may only apply to Wearables:

It can be quit the pain but it's almost surely a settings issue. There are apps that allow you to access the hidden settings that presumably also would give access to absolute bt volume. I haven't had to try that.
For best audio use the C port hard wire output.
Enable the UHQ upscaler in advanced sound settings.
