Hello Guys,
when charging my honor 8, I have noticed that the back of the phone gets really hot; especially when charging is initiated at low battery(less than 20% of battery).
The battery temp gets up to 40C (104F), measured with Using Simple System Monitor app.
I use huawei Quick Charge that comes with the phone.
Is there something to worry about or is this common? I know that too much heat on the battery can cause its early failure.

high temperatures will affect the battery life over time, are you using the phone while charging or are there apps running in the backgound using the cpu?
I am not using the phone while charging. It is connected on wifi and no apps running on background.
That's really hot. And not normal. You can talk to the guys in service center for it.

same as for CPU Temp . 40~45 is normal when u r gaming .
above 50 is not normal . and yes if the battery is low and using charge try to turn it off or don't use it while charging ! ..
and i know since 2 years that a good way to keep battery healthy is to charge only when battery drop after 20% and charge less than 95% and never use phone while charging . will keep battery healthy ! .

Status update
With stock Huawei fast charger plugged in for 10mins the battery gets hot (around 38C) and the input current gets down to 300mah (from 2700mah). The wall brick charger is not hot at all. So I guess is something to do with my device.
That way the charging process will take very long time.
I tried a lenovo charger with max output 2000mah (I measured 1700mah with the monitor app). The battery seems to charge fine with it and not overheating. However, charge time from 20% is approx. 90 mins.
Summary, Huawei quick charging sucks...at least for me
Note: for those wondering if I have a faulty battery, I can get 4 hours of SOT so I assume that my battery is still good.
Quick charge only works on the Huawei charger. Quick charge works by pushing higher current to charge the battery quicker up to about 50%. My phone gets warm from charging if it's below 50% because of the quick charge. I've experienced this on all of the phones I've owned that had quick charge.
Honestly, it sounds like you may have a bad Huawei brick.
The Honor 8 shouldn't get uncomfortable hot while charging. It should get hot but not so hot that you can't touch it. I would contact on Honor about the problem if it becomes persistent.

This is a really old post. But I am making it for the benefit of people stumbling across this thread.
So I must say that info is incorrect.
You battery temp should not go above 42 while gaming and that is really too hot. Ideal gaming temp is 40.5C and battery idle temp should be between 33-35c
For Battery longevity
When charging, you really don't want to go above 80% or below 20% and its better to charge throughout the day sporadically than leaving the phone on the charger for too long.
Again , sorry for commenting on a very old post. But maybe the info will help someone.

I added that people should be cautious about battery heat.
But let me also ad that it would be wise to learn how thermals work and how to build your own thermal profiles for battery longevity.

I started charging my tab, it got charged till 99% and then i kept on charging it but it didnt went above 99% so i thought may be its because i am using the cell. So i switched it off and kept on charging , The battry icon was charging towards the end part (like the last 10% is getting charged) but in brownish yellow collor (sort of dark orange color) i kept it for charging in this way for like an hour.. Still when i turned on the tab, its 99%. Why so??
I havent rooted it yet! its total stock..
Bought it just 5 days ago..
About half the time, my tab will only go to 99%. Since it's only1% I've never given much thought to it, but I do experience the same problem from time to time.

I'm using a p3113. I've never noticed much difference in how long it lasts. Most days, my tablet will last all day whether it charges to 99% or 100%. You really shouldn't see any difference to speak of between a 100% charge and a 99% charge. I personally think it's an overcharge feature to keep it from overcharging. I've actually seen it jump from 100% to 99% one time. If that's the case, then it's a good thing. You could try to bump charge it like I've done to cellphones that won't fully charge. I really wouldn't recommend it since 1% is practically nothing.
Charge it up (powered on) until it's finished.
Unplug it, and turn it off
Plug it back in to charge (still powered off) again, until it says it's finished.It will continue to charge now.
Now unplug it and turn it back on.
Plug the charger back in (powered on) and charge until it says it's finished.
Keep doing this until when you have it powered on, it should say 100%.

The battery charging end is defined with two parmeters: the battery voltage reach a voltage close to 4.2 V and the battery charging current gets under 200mA ( a value I have estimated on my 5110 model) .
If for some reasons the residual current do not get under this limit value ( # 200mA) while the maximum battery voltage is reached , the state of charge stay screened at 99% !!!!!
The 4.2V battery voltage is a safety limit that a Li-Ion battery should not exceed. Most often the battery voltage is stabilized close to this value at the last stage of the charging cycle and the internal charging progam decide that the charging cycle is finished when the battery current gets under a predifined value.

So I should stop charging when its 99%?
How many hours does ur tab lasts after charging 99% ?? Cuz mine doesnt lasts even 4 hours .. never charged 99% (just bought it somedays ago) did it yest , its working well now .
Screen takes too much battery ,.. ny way arround it to have better batery life? i saw CM10.1 but it has probs with gsm device so I m not using it ..

hello friend me too got gtab2 few days back.couple of days back i left charger connected full night and next day i saw on screen "battery fully charged unplug charger"my tab last full day when i return home its around 30%.abt ur battery life i doubt may be some apps are consuming or may be continue wifi use?if this is not issue then u must report this problem to cc coz 4 hrs backup is very less

I think it is better for the battery life to stop charging if the state of charge level stay on 99%, because the charging current is maintained continuously in the battery and I think this is not so good for the battery life.
You can check the battery current in the battery with diffrents battery monitoring systems. I use Battery Monitor Widget. This is very convenient app. to analyse the charging cycle and the draining of the battery.

The screen of these tablets is the most current draining component. At max screen brigthness the battery life is a less than 6 hours on my 5110. The brightness should be setted as low as possible to improve battery life, other componenet such as WiFi... GPS have very low impact on the battery life.....
Ok guys, so recently I'm starting to use my smarthphone ( xperia ray ) to do lots of things and one of it is as my Agenda. Now the real problem is, every time my phone is running out of battery I must charged it ( obviously -.- )
And everytime I charged it I always shut it down because people say that it's better to shut i down so the battery will have a long life
Can you guys tell me how to take good care of a battery ? And is it true what I said ?

Anyway, from my experience the best way to conserve your battery health is to charge it in full cycles. That means not to charge it when it's on 40% but let it drain to almost empty or empty and then let it charge until it's full.
Your battery life will become worse with time. That's how rechargeable batteries work. Every battery type (Ni-MH, Ni-Cd, Li-ion etc.) has a different amout of recharge it can take. It won't recharge fine 100000 times and then after the 100001st time "die". It's life gradually shortens.
That being said, if you haven't used a phone/battery for a long period of time, it is always wise to drain it totally and charge it full for 4-5 times and then you will notice an improvement in battery life.
Also lower your display brightness. Display is eating most battery power, especially if you're using your phone a lot

You can't overcharge your battery, that's a myth. It charges to 100% and then it stops charging, even if it's still connected to a power source. It starts charging again when it drops to 95% (hence why you sometimes see "97% Not charging" on your phone).
And yes, in some cases temperature can affect battery life but usually only in short-term. Still, it's a good idea not to leave the phone in direct sun in the summer or in your car in the summer. Extremely cold temperatures can affect its life too. Most batteries actually have written on them what temperatures they can withstand.

I have gone through about 3 cycles if battery, with fast charging turned on. Battery life has not been good, especially with screen off drain. Getting about 3hrs SOT while I've heard people say theu get around 6.
So my question is how many cycles should I go through before I judge battery? And should I disable fast charging? Does fast charging damage the battery?
I have the verizon US variant, so there isn't much I can do to improve battery life without root...

Turn fast charge off. Turn off AOD. I have an AT&T model. Helped my battery immensely....
I can go the entire day, 6am to 11pm, with average usage and have about 40% battery left. VR drains my battery like butter on a stove.

I'm also on VZW and I've had my S7 for a week. After about 3 days of poor battery life (~2hrs SOT), I turned AOD, location, BT, and NFC off, and disabled a bunch of bloatware (I posted what I did in the battery thread). That improved my SOT to over 4 hours +more standby time. I've since re-enabled BT and location and haven't noticed a difference. I left fast charge on but I use a slow charger at night, just because that's what's plugged up behind my bed.
Sorry, I don't have a source but I'm pretty sure I read something credible that said fast charging doesn't affect battery life/quality. I know that's pretty flaky, so take if with a grain of salt because plenty of other people are saying it helps.

Fast charge doesn't affect battery life immediately, charging your phone faster causes heating and overworking of battery, so slowly, average battery life decreases.
Slow charge when possible! (Wireless charge generally heats more than wall charge!)

My phone on fast charging, even wireless doesn't get any hotter than previous phones. My other half has a HTC One M8 for two years and still gets 5-6 hours SOT and has fast charged since day one.
I use fast wireless charging and get 6 hours SOT.
All I turned off is NFC, and my signal is usually full.

So, to slow charge a S7, do we have to turn off fast charging from the settings and then charge via the charger that came with the phone(the so called fast charger) or should we use a charger from an old phone say SIII etc.?
Does this hold true for Motorola's phone also which have turbo charging option?
Also how to measure battery cycles? Any credible app for the same?
Just turning off fast charge you do a lot good for your mobile..
One thing you can do is check battery temperature as you change charger or method. I don't know about Motorola, but maybe its battery is user replaceable... I personally don't know any app that keeps track of battery temperature

Of the little what I have understood from various threads here is to charge the battery when it is between 20-40% to 80-90% if you want to have a good battery life. I used to do the complete opposite charge, when the battery is at say 6-7% and charge it till it is maxed. I used to do the same for my laptop, any other tip for the battery?

In my app you'll be able to see it, when you turn on
Show sys/class/power_supply in the settings.
As you can see in the screenshot, mine is 52.

I don't know about harming the port but, it will definitely hurt the battery, So I don't recommend doing this except when it is an emergency

Note 3 was launched 4 years ago. Battery would have gone bad, you would have noticed the degradation.
In some phones, especially those which charge very fast, the temperature can rise to a high level which reduces the life of the battery, but should not impact much if you are using a phone for 1-3 years. Though one needs to stop charging / using the phone if the temperature reaches very high (say above 60 degree Celsius).
Honor 6X charges very slowly while using and the temperature doesn't rise as much (as compared to other phones), hence that impact is likely going to be lower.
Generally it's not a good idea to use whil charging all the time.
I strongly suggest you to use the phone while is under charge the less that you can, especially being careful about using it in combination with mobile data/GPS services/internet browsing and apps that requires particularly usage of RAM. This because the li-polymer battery plugged on charge with the original charger of 6X, that supports fast charge and so will "push" inside it a stronger power than a normal charger, will almost immediately reach a voltage of 4.1-4.2V to ensure the fast charge service and this is the limit that you want to maintain for being sure that the battery will last the longest time. Using it under charge with mobile data or others mentioned above, will easily overcome the 4.2V limit to 4.3V or even more, depending on what you'll be using, and so the ions capacity will be reduced faster, letting them contain less energy than the original capacity while time passes by.

It definitely does hurt the battery.
I try to never use it, except when in emergency
It doesn't but thats not a good practice in general. With continuous usage, it may get more heated that is not good for battery, phone and eventually you.
Because charging itself will hear up the phone and using it may increase further so avoid it buddy.

I always charge my phone overnight for these years and nothing happens... maybe I switch phones too fast to notice battery issue... :silly:

Hehe may be. I will take time to charge in morning or in night during dinner for 20-40% and then in morning for another 40-50% or if wake up early then may be i charge full 100%. Anything above 80 ia good for entire if couldn't charge full still have 20-30% left when reach home in night.

Almost the same here; i limit the charge to 80% with Battery Charge Limit, i wake up at morning with 79-78%, i go at work and when i come back at evening usually i have around 55-60% left due various jumps here on XDA, internet browsing, some calls and a few messages. When i go to bed i plug in the phone just for a mid-hour so it can reach 80% again, then i remove it from charge and so on.

I bought a new battery mi bn43 for my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X. It was charged by 30% on first power on.
I charged it up to 80%.
Should I make 0-100% charging cycles? Searching the internet there are 2 concepts, one that I shouldn't do any extra charging and the other that i should...
Does anyone know what is the best thing to do?

A couple full charges 40-100% to feel it out.
In normal use I generally keep it tighter, 40-65%.
I rarely ever go beyond 75%
Do not charge a cool battery ie > 72°F
82-90°F is probably optimal.
Never charge if near of below freezing.
Avoid high charge levels plus high temperatures.

After which try to avoid going below 30-40% and over 80% (40-65% is ideal) to minimize battery stress. Li's like frequent midrange charge cycles.
