Double tapping the volume key from lock screen fires the camera and takes a picture. How can I stop it from taking a picture so it only launches the camera app. I'm on the B106 firmware on a Middle Eastern unit.

Open the camera app and swipe from the right edge. Scroll down and you'll find it.
Definitely not there. Maybe because of an older OS? Attaching the screenshot.
You need to disable pro mode first to see this option.

I've been a long time user of the android camera app, touchwiz camera was downright amazing.
I recently flashed a cm10 based ROM and have been playing around with the camera and have some questions.
1. Do you need to tap the screen to focus every time you want to take a picture? My past cameras had the constant block of auto focus so you could just wait for the green and snap. Or does the tap focus only pertain to the spot you want to focus on?
2. Is there a macro mode?..perhaps this is 'flower' mode?
Finally...anyway to turn off the shutter sound other than silent mode? This ones not anything major I just figured I would ask. Thanks guys!

No, you don't need to tap the screen to focus every time. If you move around to different points in camera mode you'll see the screen zooming in and out to focus on the point in the center of the screen. I think the tap is to focus on a point off the center of the screen (taking a photo of someone while their not centered in the screen)
There is a macro mode. When you open the camera there's a settings button right next to the negative zoom slider. After that there's a 3 button settings right where you just clicked, and in there you'll find macro/burst, and all the other extras.
I haven't seen a shutter sound off option yet.
Thanks! I am still unable to find macro..I did find the burst shot which ranges from 5-20 shots. However I don't see macro listed. Maybe I'm just missing it. If you are able could you upload a screenshot of it please? Thanks again!

You're welcome. I can't make a screenshot whenever I try it says that my storage is in use (assuming because camera is open) but if you go into the settings like I described before... the 4th one down gives you "focus mode" that's set to continuous.. click on that to the right and you'll find macro in there.

The AOSP camera is definitely lacking compared to the TW one.
That being said here is an ongoing project to add more features to the AOSP camera in order to make it closer to TW:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611
I do miss the TW camera, but camera isn't a deal breaker for me to remain on TW... I see more benefits using aosp instead.
Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to bookmark it and check back periodically to see if there's improvements. I see in screenshots its able to store on extsdcard which is nice.
You can easily get rid of camera sounds renaming the sound files from CM -> media -> audio -> ui
just rename the camera files and video files with ending .bak and reboot your phone. After every update you have to do it again.
I don't know a huge amount about photography but I'm curious as to why the new camera crashes when in HDR+ mode when one tries to zoom in on a subject. It does it every single time. Why would zoom even be an option if it's not possible to zoom in HDR+ mode.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean.
I was saying if one uses pinch to zoom to zoom into a subject then take the picture with HDR turned on that it just dies.
I did delete the cache for the stock camera app thinking some old setting was messing with it but that did nothing.
Mine zooms in and takes a picture without crashing, while in HDR mode

That's why he said CLEAR DATA on the camera app. Clear Data and Clear Cache are different.

Sorry, I've never "held an app" so I didn't get it at first. My bad. A 12 hour work day makes me a bit punchy.
It appears to work now. Not sure what was causing it to crap itself. *shrug*
Thanks..
I took a few selfie photos and the resulting photo is reversed (back to front). Any ideas how to resolve this? I've looked at the settings and cannot find the solution.
Does nobody know how to do this? I suspect you'll want to when you get one of these. I've checked all the camera settings that I can find (noting too that they are different dependant upon what camera mode you are in, and can find nothing .
Might be fixed in the next software update.
Mine are not reversed. I no selfie expert lol, but looks fine.
This is the setting on the 10 for that

Go into camera and make sure you are using the front camera. Then go into the drop-down menu and select settings - camera settings - there is an option for mirrored selfies.

I suspect those offering advice do not have the U11, or a different ROM. The photos below show the settings when in Selfie mode.
I too have an HTC 10 and the setting it has is missing on this handset, at least my one.

Try scrolling down on the menu on your first thumbnail for more options

Thanks. There is no scroll bar so it appears as though you are looking at the only menu items, as per the screen capture.
Duhhh.

Hi,
I have set up Edge Sense to launch another camera app (the Google camera) on single squeeze. However, if the screen is off, it won't launch the camera app I chose. It just turns on the screen. It works with the default camera app. Any help?
Thank you.

Not possible. The "Start Application" option always requests the device to be unlocked. Once unlocked, the camera app should start.

You can set double power button press to launch camera instead of squeeze.
It doesn't need unlock

How do you take a selfie in portrait-mode (to get the blurred background)? It doesn't seem to do it when I take a normal selfie nor does there seem to be an option or setting on the selfie camera mode. When I go to the portrait mode, there in no option to switch to the front camera.
Any help would be great! I've looked all over for an answer.

It seems like that's not an option since the camera is a default app. Doesn't even show up in my apps in the play store.

UPDATE: there is a cool feature I found under settings. Click support at the bottom and it allows you to chat with a support and then do a screen share. He did a troubleshoot for me and figured out that I am in fact running the version of camera that doesn't have the front facing portrait. He said the update is being released in batches and that is why it's not in my play store. Thanks everyone for your help!
