Always on! Also when is on my desk - Samsung Gear S3

Hi, is there a way to disable feature that turn off display when i don't wear the watch?

Nope. it only stays on when you're wearing it. It sees your pulse/heart rate to know if it's being worn.

It should turn off when on your desk. Check the settings under display and see how long the timer to turn it off is set for. Maybe it is too high.

OP is asking if this can be disabled. As I said, it's not possible.

You are looking for an app called: I am alive
Find it in the app store, it's free. It will let you keep the active watchface always on (so not the AOD).

Thanks for the tip, for now i use that app but it was better to have watch working normally (with dimmed watchface) also without wearing it...

After 1 year no news? It's still not possible to have the watch full working without wear it?

[App] Power Switch - screen off by closing case

Guys, im the developer of Power Switch, an app that switches off your tablet's screen when you shut the case.
The main thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277712
Ive had reports of problems with the pad's light sensor, so would appreciate some debugging feedback.
You can use the lite version to test, it has all the features, but just wont save as much juice.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to reply here or in the main thread, i read both regularly!
Great idea. Does it require root?
Also, it would have been awesome if it could wakeup automatically as well, like the iPad smart cover.
No, no need for root.

That is a mechanical function. It is possible on android too, but it would kill the battery as you could never really put your device to sleep.

Who cares about a little battery juice? The cool factor would be awesome. Maybe as a timed option? Like 5 or 10 min. or more "auto wake" feature.
Fortunately, everyone cares.

I don't, and Im sure there are others that would like the option. As a developer who is trying to sell an app you might consider not generalizing your customer, rather say its not a feature I can, or wish to add to this app. Your app does have potential. Thanks for your efforts.
Ill keep that in mind. However, as a developer with some experience i still think everyone cares. Everyone who understands just what would be happening if the teblets screen would be off but it wasnt sleeping.

I'll give it a go and let you know!
Good idea.
Please do!
I think the auto wake up function would be great! Maybe you could make it as an option, people who like it can turn it on and who doesnt like it can turn it off.....
Installed it last night. Set the Auto Shutdown to 5:00, left most other defaults on. (Enable Sensors/Use Light Sensor). Plugged into AC. Closed screen and could see screen was shutting down. After 5:00 would be off. In morning (closed screen) fired it up and at full charge.
Quite nice! Anything else I should look at in the app?
I wouldnt mind if you had a good test of the sesitivity defaults...
I couldn't get it to work on my Transformer, it would only work the first time after that I had no luck getting it to register the closed lid, nor my hand covering the sensor..

Please, enable debugging and send some logs using the Write to developer item, I really would like to look into this issues.

Use the "tablet" defaults please!

Gotcha. Other active settings are Enable Power Switch, Confirmation 12 sec, Activation 8 Sec, Enable Sensors, Light Sensors (50%) and Acceleration Sensor.
Will leave there for a day or two.
thanks
Brilliant, thanks a lot this is just the kind of thing i am looking for!

Use as smartwatch?

Is there a good way to turn the phone into a smartwatch? Or is this too silly?
It's too silly.... :good:
Not if you have really big wrists
My wrist is big enough so it would not be absurd, silly yes, but not absurd. I'm more asking how one would turn the phone into a smartwatch

I know, I wasn't thinking of a ROM, maybe just more apps that could be used to keep the screen on and sync with my phone

Any way to determine up time?

Is there an option somewhere on the s3 to see the time since first powered on similar to android's uptime?

you can only see how long the watch has been on through the gear app on the phone. click on the watch battery percentage and it will tell you.

Has the app changed in a year? The Gear app doesn't currently display uptime when viewing battery info.

Sleeping Apps

Do you guys sleep apps in the device optimizer? I just found it the other day, seems like a good thing, probably the best we can get till we can get root
I have all of my apps that I don't need notifications from set to Always Sleep. Seems to help the battery some.
If you are looking to disable apps or block them I recommend BK Disabler. No root needed.
Also root is available, just be careful because it has ALOT of set backs. In my opinion not worth it right now.

That app is awesome! Pretty much the only thing I wanted root for! Or at least the main thing! Thanks! I froze/disabled a few main ones that keep waking up in the background....

Also just as an FYI AT&T hid the carrier IQ software in a new shady spot. Screen shots below to show where to turn it off.

You're looking at the wrong application. Use the search to find "Carrier IQ" and you'll find the right application and then the right service to turn off.

Yep been disabled since day 1.
With all the aggregated data collected from pretty much every app within android and google really, what does disabling Carrier IQ do?

It aggregates all of you data, ties it to you phone number and your AT&T account. It's quite a bit more invasive than Google's anonymously collected data.
Also it crush battery and uses about 20 - 200 MB of data a month.
Super shady.

Composed on Galaxy Note8
Doesn't disabling the package disable the service...? Package disabler pro doesn't have the option to disable the service.
Bk disabler seems pretty awesome... Not sure how good package disabler is...?

Yeah I switch to BK because sometimes u you only want to disable specific services not the entire package.
On the S8 the Carrier IQ was hidden in the system package.
I dont appear to have "Device Health" anywhere.

Anyone still use EasyEyes or other brightness control apps?

New OP7, read about the "adaptive brightness" setting, but so far I find the phone way too bright compared with my previous one.
On the old phone I used to have "EasyEyes" installed to add that red filter, wondering if that's something that is no longer useful now (has that been incorporated in Android Pie?), or are you guys still using these types of programs?
Hoping to find the most restful setup for the eyes!

Night mode (red filter) is built into OOS under Display Settings.
Thanks for that — that's news to me.
In your opinion, does that work well? (Well enough to stop using something like EasyEyes?)

Thanks for replying, sorry but I didn't understand what you meant. Do you mean that everynight EasyEyes kicks off, or Night mode from OOS under Display Settings?
