I just switched from Textra to Google Messenger to try it out. Everything works great except I'm having all of my group chats (MMS) being sent as mass text (SMS) instead.
Every group chat gets this message:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
When I go into the advanced settings menu, I don't see a group chat enable option:
However, when I take out my sim card, reboot my phone and go back into the Google Messenger app, group chat enable option is there:
Has anyone else experienced this or know why Google Messenger seems to want to force group chats to mass text? I'm on T-Mobile if it helps.
same issue
I'm having the same problem. Any luck finding a solution for this?
I think it's due to international firmware. Updated the APN settings but no luck so I'm using Textra as a workaround.

Anyone else have a problem where if you hit the home button from a hangouts chat it stays working in the background? I have to back out of the app each time to get it to stop. I notice this most from group chat. Even when no one has said anything in hours. Also, I haven't noticed it from sms chats. Only internet hangouts.

Click to collapse
check if something is stuck syncing. if not, clear app data and reopen it.
I got D6603 model Z3 and I'm using it with Straight Talk. The issue I'm having is that I can send mms fine, however, I can't receive them. I get the message, "Message not downloaded". When I had the dual sim Z3, I never had this issue. I have been searching the internet for hours trying to find a fix for it. I have tried numerous APN settings and still I can't receive mms.
I have also tried the feature, where the phone is supposed to download the APN settings automatically. But Straight Talk does not appear in the list. Only H2O, Red Pocket and ATT shows up. I have also done several factory resets and reinstalled the firmware via the Sony Companion Program.
So do anyone else know of a fix to this issue?

Hello I have a problem with Facebook Messenger on this phone (never had this problem on any other phone).
Problem is that if I open messenger from the chat heads (overlay), the app is over everything. And by everything I mean absolutely everything (including long press paste option, own messenger settings (I'm unable to change conversation default emoji, because every other messenger screen opens under the chat screen and cannot be accessed), etc.).
If I open it from the app launcher like natural app, it is all fine. Problem is only with the overlay.
Also I have some search bar in messenger, which nobody I know has there.
Anybody with similar problems or is there something wrong with my messenger / phone?
I'm running stock b180, not rooted, not unlocked bootloader.

Hi everyone,
I just updated my US variant Honor 8 to nougat and have a pretty big issue. I use the google messenger app because i am not a fan of Huawei's stock app. After this update i have noticed that i cannot receive mms messages from anyone and also it is doing this weird error message to all my contacts saying unknown sender.
Please if anyone can help me out here i would greatly appreciate it, i love the google messenger app and would like to keep using it!
Thank you

I have the same problem on Android 6. I see MMS in app but can not download content. When switch to default SMS/MMS app is everything ok.
I deleted all the conversations in Google messenger and it fixed the "unknown sender" issue. The conversations appeared as normal when new texts were sent/received.
Haven't figured out the mms issue yet.
I have the same problem with Hangouts on M or N. No solution for it yet.
Textra worked for me and it has more functionality than Android Messages
