I'm considering a Mate 9, or 9 Pro. One question I have: does it have an LED, and support multiple colors?
I use Lightflow for my notifications. Different color and/or flash rate for notifications.

Currently using Light Flow on my Mate 9. It works excellent for Huawei devices. However, since this is above Android 6.0 (being 7.0), you will need to install Light Flow Legacy if you don't want the annoying persistent icon to stay in the status bar/notification try. Light Flow Pro is what I had, but switched to Legacy (based on their recommendation within the app), and the persistent icon is gone/not needed. Everything functions great.
So far the colors I've tested that work on this LED - red, blue, cyan, yellow, white, and pink - going in between changes the color slightly or it will make the LED show nothing if it's not found in Huawei's LED hardware color range. Huawei devices are known for that. You'll have to play around with settings, but Fastest and Always On work wonderfully without error. You know how it works, so test it out to your liking.
The LED is really dim.
Hey, I tested some leds within the app but leds are not working when I recieve notifications. For example, led is set to red when charging but when I charge my phone, led is orange as a default huawei led. How to fix this?

Make sure PULSE LED is on within Huawei's main settings. Remove the charging settings - they don't work - you're better off with the stock ones. Keep everything else as FASTEST or ALWAYS ON (in my testing, they were the most consistent because Huawei decided to not implement the faster/brighter Nexus 6P LED so it fades in and out because of the stock PULSE LED. As I said before, make sure you test the colors because the LED spectrum goes from yellow-red-pink-purple-blue-cyan-green (any variation in there just relates to brightness).

You can hide app notifications under permissions, I do that for a few that have that persistent presence and they still work.

No, that only removes it from the status bar. Because it's a "persistent notification," it pops up and remains in the notification pull down when it becomes activated with every message, email, etc. This takes up space and is rather annoying. Thus, I recommended the legacy path which works 100% correctly .
Hmm, I swear when I used it before turning off notifications took care of that.

It looks like the touch surface at the bottom of the device has slight translucent look about it. Might it serve as a notification LED as well?
I think the chances are good. I noticed that as well.
Also, in the video over on android central of the g4 rom running on the nexus, he mentions led notifications built into the rom. I'm not sure if he mean built into the hacked rom or the standard rom.
Hopefully there is

Problem is that development will now have to corporate that in to the roms
I can confirm that there is LED notification located just to the left of the ambient light sensor. There is also a Notification flash setting under the display settings. Flash LED light notifications optinos include: Missed call, SMS/MMS, Email, Voicemail, Reminders, and Alarms. Of course it is also used as a charging notification.

There are multiple color options. I do not know which colors are for what but I do know that emails are green.
Great now I have to decide... HD7, or myTouch 4g?
I'm kinda scared to shift to a new OS, just because it is so new that I have no idea if it will adjust well with how I use a device, however... if I get the 4g it will take forever for official updates to come to the device...
So hard... I guess I will have to try both devices at the T-Mobile store.

Definitively android. wp7 will be a flop.
I too can confirm. youtube wirefly's channel. they got a unboxing AND a small review. (the review has the notification light blinking)
Can anyone who has actually used the phone confirm that there's an LED for notifications and that it's functional? Thanks.

I am curious about this as well. I've watched and watched for the light and it didn't come on for anything until I installed light flow, lol. So I am curious

The light comes on so long as you have it enabled in settings.
It also lights up in the color reflective to the app, usually..
For Hangouts, it's white.
Facebook, blue. Facebook messenger, green. Snapchat, Yellow. Etc.

Ticking 'Notification light' under 'Settings -> Display' is the requisite for your LED to work at all. As soon as you disable this no app should be able to trigger the LED signal again.
I suppose that the notification itself is not handled by the system because it doesn't appear for every notification. It's more like every app can take advantage of it. I don't know every app which is capable of using the LED - just some of them; but they have already been mentioned in this thread. Some apps don't support the LED notification light, some do and even let you customize its color.
If you want an all-in-one solution to customize colours for different apps I can recommend "Light Flow". I bought the paid version and I'm totally satisfied. Just be sure that those two options are activated, else the app can't control the notification light.
-> Settings -> Security -> Notification access -> Light Flow activated
-> Settings -> Accessibility -> Light Flow -> On
I didn't like Facebook messenger to be green. I turned it blue. WhatsApp is green, SnapChat is yellow and so on... Works like a charm for me :3
Use LEDBlinker, I think it works better..
Sent from my Nexus 5
They both got lite versions so you can easily try and choose which one you like best. Would be great if there'd be an official solution from Google. A system app that is able to control the LED for every app But again: At this moment in time there are only apps in Play Store which can do this.
Does anyone know how to disable the red charging light on the S6 edge? I don't want to turn off LED notifications all together, just don't want that bright red charging light.
Try accessibility settings and turn on notification reminders I think that disabled the charging status.

Kind of a hacky work around but it totally works. Unfortunately I don't actually want notification reminders from all those other apps so I had to go through and turn them all off. Thank you!
Otherwise, just use Light Flow. It's great and let's you customize what colour each app has etc.

Sometimes the notifications would stay and not reset for mine on Telus. I'm using light manager and it's working great. I can't believe the lack of control for the LED on this phone...

Light flow actually works for charging status as well. I've set a red light with a custom interval of 50,10000. Basically keeps the light off.
I can't seem to fix this problem. None of the apps suggested here will turn off the stupid red light and the fix with notification reminder doesn't turn off the red light either. The only way I've found to get rid of the red light is to completely turn off the led light which isn't really a solution.

I have LightFlow installed and deleted the notification for charging. This made my light turn off when it's plugged in. If that doesn't work maybe set the notification, but set LED to off?

I used Light Manager. I hated both the charging and charged function. I Enabled the LED for both. Go to the Color selection and make a custom color. When you go back out to the HEX code selection, type in all Zeros. Should be Black. Save and test. Should make it go all quite.
I have the exact opposite situation: I would like to turn off all notifications LEDS but have the charge red/charged green light on (on my S6). I'm using Light Flow, is there an easy way to do this without manually setting it up for each individual app?
I came to the same solution as ChroniclesOfRedick:
Setting a custom color with 0x000000 and Priorty Low for the Charged Battery ist the trick with Light Manager!
Works with galaxy S7 and Android 7.

They work if that's what you're asking. Light Flow and Light Manager are the two I tested. Definitely prefer LF of the two.

LightFlow is not working for me. Did you enable the LED in the display settings and did you enable or disable the workaround for Samsung?
I have been emailing the dev for light manager. in order to get it to work, you need to turn on the 5.1 workaround in the apps settings and you have to let it wake the screen for notifications. then the led colors work correctly. one thing that does break is you can not longer expand the gmail notifications in the notification pull down shade. he said he doesn't have an S7 yet to test on but is getting one.
LED Blinker Work correctly
I didn't install light manager yet. I'm just using signal for SMS and changing color of LED in its settings. inbox is blue and I guess missed calls would be the same blue default. Works for now. Also charging is red by default and green I think when charged...

Yes LED Blinker works. I have tested under S7. And many customers told me, too.

LED Blinker works, but has the same problem that all of the other LED notification programs have....The Gmail notification icon in the status bar will not auto clear after reading email. It must be cleared manually. Light Manager does the same thing, and according to the developer, it is an issue with Android 6.0

Is there a way to assign a colour to the notification LED? Like green for whatsapp and red for Gmail? I can't see a way to make the change and the current colour scheme seems to be inconsistant. I've downloaded Light manager which has no effect.
