TF300T Questions - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a TF300T with the latest firmware installed - JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.27.5-20130902. I suffer from the extreme slowdown that I have researched endlessly. I found answers that have said to root and install a custom ROM. I have already unlocked the device using Asus V8 Unlock tool. I get the "Device is unlocked" at boot.
My questions are:
What is the best custom recovery for this tablet?
What rom should I use / do people like the most?
I have found the KatKiss ROM Nougat 7.1. I have also found this ROM located here http://www.teamandroid.com/2015/05/12/install-android-511-cm121-asus-transformer-pad-tf300t-nightly-lollipop-rom/ which from my understanding will give OTA updates.
The process seems complex. I am not a layman, but some of the steps I have found for the process are confusing; like fastboot and adp (or something). I am still looking through forum posts to help me understand the processes involved. The biggest problem I have is finding a custom recovery and custom ROM.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to give. (I'm still searching on my own as well lol.)

Ok, I got twrp installed, so that question is answered. Now I guess the only thing else about my questions is what ROM should I use? I wish to increase the performance of the device without loosing any functionality. I see the KatKiss ROM I posted doesn't allow recording of video.

In order to avoid any issues you must be sure to have the genuine Kang TWRP 2.8.7.2 installed from here. There is also md5 available. (https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347781183)
Regarding your second question you are right KatKiss - Nougatella #014 is still in development. Bluetoth and video recording are missing right now. But it's only a question of time.
In my opinion KatKiss - KatshMallow #029 is the mostly perfected rom. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf300t/development/rom-t3237867).
So I would recommend to you to take this one firstly. Please pay attention carefully on the install instruction in post #1. The first install should be a clean one!
Good luck!

[Q] Katana, Manta Ray and Recovery etc

I am going to show myself as a complete n00b, but I am confused. I want to install Tiamat, for all of the advantages that it provides, but I don't want to do this without understanding what I am doing.
Could somebody please explain what Katana, Manta Ray, and Recovery do? I see mention of ROMs and kernels. Does a Tiamat ROM replace the complete HC 3.2? I am doubting this, given that HC source has not been released. What is the function of Recovery? Why is a special one needed for Tiamat?
Sorry about these rather basic questions! If someone can point me to some references, that would be fine.
Thank you.
GordonM
Well, I guess I have answered this myself (I hope correctly). I should have done a bit more research before posting. It seems that a similar (ROM/kernel) question was raised and answered in the Nexus1 forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674033. So the kernel is the interface between the OS and the hardware components of the device. The ROM contains the OS.
With regard to CWM, I found what I felt was quite a good article at http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/.
I am presuming that, if I download the most recent version of Tiamat, it contains both the ROM and kernel. I hope this is correct.
Gordon
Yes, a ROM contains a kernel (a kernel is needed to boot). But you can update the kernel separately.

Good job with the research. Yes, if you flash the rom the kernel will be installed too.
Make sure to use the Tiamat 3.2.0.0 R4c recovery..Don't "upgrade" to version 4 in Rom Manager or you won't be able to flash/backup/restore from/to you micro sd card.
Thanks for the confirmations and advice, Matt and okantomi.
Next stop Tiamat ..... I hope!

Gordon,
I was like you until the weekend. I was frustrated with the lack of updates from Moto on my stock 3.0.1 UK 3g Xoom. I looked through these forums and found it all very daunting. However, I took the plunge at the weekend and am now running Tiamat Manta Ray with HC 3.2 with everything working.
It was frustrating to begin with that there wasn't one obvious thread/post that spelt out in detail exactly what to do and how and the terminology was very confusing never having unlocked, rooted and flashed an android device before. I had no idea what "adb remount" or similar terms meant.
I spent a lot of time reading various threads. This was important as during the process I had a few issues (and these were down to me not reading instructions carefully enough) but as I'd seen other people with the same issues in various threads and suggested solutions I didn't panic. It also meant I actually had a better idea about what I was doing rather than just following instructions rote, if that makes sense.
So my advice is to carry on and give it a go as, certainly in my case, the answers are out there. In hindsight the fact that I had to look at different threads to unlock, root and then flash was a good thing as I am now comfortable with process (although I have more to learn).
Good luck and I hope this is useful encouragement as I was very much in the same place a few days ago and was feeling very apprehensive.

Congratulations! That's the same way I did it...I had to take several different guides, print out the instructions, highlight the steps I needed to take from each, get all my files together in the right place, make sure the Xoom is plugged in/charging and go for it.
wendell - exact same experience... and glad I went down this path... zoom is better than ever...
Wendell - Sorry I didn't respond to your post earlier. I did take the plunge and the update to US 3.2 went very smoothly. However, my attempt to update to Tiamat has, so far failed because of errors appearing when installing CWM.

I think you can only do so from 3.1, so you may need to go backward to get to Manta ray
sorry, led you astray - have now seen another thread where folks have gone from 3.2HC straight to tiamat manta ray directly
what version of cwm do you have? I had some probs with an early version of cwm.

I honestly don't see what difference it makes.
You oem unlock it, which wipes it
Then go through set up, put back in dev mode
Flash the CWM 3.2.0.0 RC4 image, reboot into CWM
Wipe again and then Flash Tiamat. It's an entire rom package with kernel.

[Q] Use Cyanogenmod 10 with JB bootloader

Hello xda-Developers!
Please excuse me for asking noobish questions. I tried to read and understand as much as I could but I'm still not sure about what I have to do.
Some time ago I wanted to install CyanogenMod on my tablet - this however was not possible for some reason ("CM doesnt support the JB bootloader" or something similar). This lead me to install the HYDRO-Rom.
Yesterday I saw an update (in the Play Store) for an app which installs some new speakers-drivers. Since I didn't install the app myself I assumed it came from the ROM. I updated the App, opened it and installed the new drivers. This caused a reboot and since then I'm forced into a bootloop (with the HYDRO-Rom) (I can reset to Asus stock But I would prefer a custom ROM)
I also use CyanogenMod on my SII and really love it!
Is there a way to switch to CM now? I'm currently running the "twrp v.2.2.0" recovery. And if yes: Do I have to watch out for something or can I just follow the guide in the cyanogenmod wiki ( Asus_Transformer_Pad_TF300T:_Full_Update_Guide )?
I appreciate your help!

After installation via OTA 4.1 there is a new boot loader. It is not compatible with the CM.

Alright, thanks for the info! - I'l keep looking for a new bootloader.
Xplowild is working on a CM10 for the JB bootloader
Hello again,
sorry for pushing this Thread, but I wanted to be sure.
It seems the CM-team managed to make CM available on the JB-bootloader. ( showthread 1845200 )
Will I be able to just install it (following the "how to install" section of the post) - or is there a chance that I will break my tablet?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Installing a new ROM for the first time...?

Hi everybody, first post on this forum!
I'm sitting here with a GT-I7100 and was reading alot about the ARHD 9.2 ROM, which I'd like to try. However, I feel like I've entered a giant jungle with only a little nail scissor as my only tool. I've read countless of threads regarding bricking and only god knows what. I'm still convinced (bricking aside) I'd like to install a new ROM, and the ARHD 9.2 install instructions (found here) are extremely easy to follow. I am now wondering if it really is this easy, or if every single ROM developer on this forum expects you to have some software already installed on the phone for a ROM flash to succeed?
I'm at the moment running the stock software as configured by Samsung out of the box. Are there any steps I have to take before following the (oh so easy) install instructions found in the ARHD 9.2 thread? If so, where can I read more about them - and are there any guides with simple step-by-step instructions which explanes each and every step? The amount of terms I've found on these forums are overwhelming, and I therefore feel the need for a thread like this.
EDIT:
After even more reserach, I've managed to convert all of the above to a few steps, which I hope are correct.
1) ROOT using CF-Auto-Root (thread instructions here)
2) Install ClockwokMod ROM Manager and then let it flash Clockwork Mod Recovery by itself)
3) Backup current ROM using CWM and then continue to follow the instructions found in the ARHD 9.2 thread.
4) Install Triangle Away to reset the flash number.
5) Have fun!
Is it this "simple" or are there steps I've missed, still? Please tell me, since i'm not sure about this one, really.
Also, do you still need to root the phone using step 1) or will CWM do it for you aswell?
NEW EDIT:
Found this thread which explains all required steps in detail.
This thread can therefore be closed, thanks.
Best of Regards,
Christer F

I have successfully rooted two devices using xda forums. Just make sure you read on past the tutorials. Most of the time you will find valuable information on what errors other users encountered and so on. Once you start flashing rom's it's hard to stop.
Recently purchased a tablet and looking for rooting and mod, thanks
No neee to worry... simply keep backup everytime...

Google Nexus 5 Flashing

Hi Guys.
I am a bit out of date. Haven't done something here for about 2 years, and can't even remeber how I did my last flash of the rooted stock rom on my device.
Is there any way I can see, if my phone is already prepared for any flash method? Or are there no more different options out there these days?
If it doesn't matter, which one you would advise me to use? I am interessted to flash the CM (hammerheadcaf).
Thank you for any help. Cheers

Fist the bootloader must be unlocked. Then you need to flash a custom recovery ("normal" TWRP for stock/aosp based roms or CAF TWRP for CM 12.1 CAF).
Also check which bootloader version is required for the rom you are planning to flash.
Of course this is a quick overview of the requirements, but you will find plenty of detailed information about every step here in the Nexus5 forum. Good luck!

Hi, thank you for ur answer. My problem is not to find details about flashing a specific ROM. My question was more about, how to find out, which kind of flashing I have done the last time on my phone? So I would know, if I can skip a big part of the tutorials or if I need to do everything from scratch.
Well, those steps are meant for flashing in general not only a specific rom and from my point of you it doesn't matter how you used to flash in the past (but maybe i'm missing something here or didn't understood your question).
Basically flashing the Nexus5 two years ago was same as now (but might different than other devices) but most likely you will need a newer revision of your recovery, a bootloader upgrade (and if necessary unlock your bootloader if you locked it in the past). So just check this information against your current configuration and you will find out if you can skip a step or not (and also different roms could come with different requirements, like the CAF buils).

Returning to stock OOS from AOSiP 9.0 - How???

Greetings Everyone,
I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned somewhere. I wasn't able to find an answer specific to my issue and threads I did read about returning to OOS are mostly contradictory.
Right now, I'm using AOSiP 9.0 and not so happy with it's performance. It's OK, but not so smooth - lot of lagging and the occasional random reboot. I would like to return to the stock OOS firmware, but I'm really having troubles knowing exactly how to do so. My phone is currently rooted and I'm using Magisk 20.3 and TWRP 3.3.1-75.
Would someone be willing to explain specifically what steps I should take in order to get OOS installed properly? Or perhaps lead me to a thread that I may have missed?
The following is what I'd like to have happen:
Return to current OOS from AOSiP
Keep root access
Install both TWRP and Magisk
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Obviously, I don't want to brick my phone.
Thank you!

Has nobody successfully done this before, hence the lack of any replies? And yes, I have searched. Multiple times. Here on this site, via Google, Bing, etc. I have been unable to find any specific in regards to my questions. And the few posts that I have found that do mention about returning to stock OOS all mention a complete different/contradictory method. I really do not wish to destroy my phone by attempting to do this. But I also don't wish to use the AOSiP ROM any longer either. If there is anyone who could offer anything helpful, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!
If you want go back to stock, the only option is to factory reset the device by flashing the latest OOS firmware on both slots via twrp. After this, flash twrp again and magisk. Else, you could download the fastboot firmware from xda and run the flashall.bat and return to full stock. After this flash twrp and magisk. If all else fails, MSM tool is the last bet

I am holding off, flashing custom ROMs for the same reason. Also did a search. Not very phone specific instructions. First time owning a device like this. How somebody could chime in that knows
