I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed.
I tried removing root and still having the same issue.
The OTA downloads but fails shortly into the first step. Is there a better way to side-load this? I would rather not do a full re-install again...
You probably need the stock recovery.

Can we flash stock recovery over TWRP? If not, can a customer update be rolled to be used with TWRP?

I don't know any reason why you wouldn't be able to put the stock recovery back over TWRP.

You need to flash stock boot back before upgrading.. You can then side load the ota, install twrp and reroot again.. No loss of data

While this did work and install stock recovery, the OTA update still fails. So I just gave up on it, re-rooted, installed CWM again, and installed a custom kernel. Thank you anyway.

Why would u want an OTA update? an OTA update could just as easily make your phone's bootloader locked again, etc.

bootloader can be unlocked again even with OTA.
So I saw here that the NE5 update was out, and I want to install it. However, obviously I can't do an OTA update due to it being a "modified device." I am running Philz Recovery and root from flashing SuperSU.zip.
Is there any way to update manually, without losing root (permanently), recovery, or wiping all my data? I know that I could always restore the stock recovery and firmware via ODIN, but that would get rid of everything, including my data.
(Side question: What exactly does the NE5 update add? I know it's another build of 4.4.2 but what features?)
Thanks.
SOLVED: Just went the long route with wiping and installing the updated NE5 firmware via ODIN. Flashed Philz recovery and SuperSU.
Admins/Mods feel free to delete.

The NE5 file is already deodexed and rooted. Therefore, you don't lose root. You get Wi-Fi calling feature with this updated. And, I believe it's an update to the modem.

Just download the file and follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787760&page=2
Remember: You will lose all data. So it's better if you do a backup of your data using Titanium or alike to get the data back.

If it takes you back to full stock then you can re-root using the same method you rooted the first time and it will root just fine.

Yes, that would be a good idea. PhilZ has a special feature in the factory reset to wipe out everything for installing a new rom. Use that feature and you're good to go.
Why would it be doing this? I already removed root via the SuperSU app permanently. What could be causing the error?

You might have a system app removed or missing
Or maybe you have done something with the build prop as well if thats messed with that will also throw an error out.
If you read closely it should tell you what the error is

well even if you Remove root via SuperSU that doesn't mean your SYSTEM is unmodified, the only way to get back to FULL Unmod. software is by following my steps of restoring back to stock, here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-lg-g-stylo-h631-ms631-v10j-stock-t3211563
P.S. You need to have TWRP for this so Re-Root and Re-Flash TWRP and follow steps
So, I'm on B380 since febuary or march (L09C432), and I think my battery stinks. It was way better before upgrading to Emui5. I haven't had the time to fix it but no I do. Just can't remember the "rules".
I'm no unlocked, Twrped and rooted. In System update I can download B389. But, will this work? Can I install it just like that? Will I loose Twrp and/or root?
I don't have a computer with me atm so I have no way of undoing the upgrade if I start it, thats why I want to be sure.
Thanks a bunch in advance guys!

I'm not sure about this sentence, u not unlocked, no rooted no twrp? If no make update without any issue. If u are rooted and u have root update will be unsuccessful
Anyway B389 is pretty good update

were u rooted at b380?
if so, which root?
Since there is already B394 and some reported B398 coming I would wait a bit longer to update your device. And since you have twrp it's either flashable through it or you must first unroot your device, second fastboot stock recovery.img (don't forget recovery2.img) and then finally update via system update or dload. IF you are not familiar with the methods or the process please use search function on this website.

But upgrade can
Ok so I ended up downgrading to B131 and from there I upgraded via System Update to B389.
I have installed TWRP, no problems there. But I cant get SuperSU to work.
Running TWRP 3.0.3.0 and tried flashing SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815-EMUI5.0 (which is what i think i used before). No luck. SuperSU app says "no binaries". So then I tried to mount system partition in TWRP and install Supersu again. Made no difference.
I have also tried flashing a newer version och SuperSU, but that didnt help.
So, what am I missing guys?
Hey there fellow U11 Users,
I just received the update concerning 60fps HD-Video etc. I use TWRP so the update can't be installed by itself. So I have two questions:
A
Where do I find the update file. I looked around a lot but couldn't locate it.
B
Once found, can I just flash it with TWRP?
Thanks in advance!

list your steps your using to install the ota via twrp....personally, I let the system initiate the install (booted into OS) as if I was 100% stock, once twrp loads, it automatically installs except for the firmware.zip
more details here...
OK, I am a Noob to the HTC world. I am used to easy flashing/rooting/etc. on Nexus devices.
TWRP doesn't do anything after accepting the ota. When I try to install the OTA via TWRP I receive Error 7. I worked my way through a lot of guides here on XDA concerning manual OTA installing. One thing I tried was flashing back to stock recovery which I found in the firmware.zip of the OTA in bootloader mode. That failed also ("FAILED (remote: not allowed on PRODUCTION device).
Edit: The device has obviously an unlocked bootloader, s-on, rooted via magisk and is a DGLU device, software number 1.16.400.5
Are you on an Untouched System Image? Completely stock ROM? While it is great we can flash the OTA in TWRP, the system stills needs to be stock, and of course will still have to fastboot firmware.

Yes, everything is stock.
I managed to flash the stock recovery now. I didn't remember to use the download mode /sorry. Then Then I checked for the ota again, downloaded it and tried to apply but I landed in the stock recovery with the red exclamation mark and then nothing happened.

Same result unfortunately. TWRP hands out Error 7 and "system partition has unexpected contents" or something like that although I didn't do any tinkering with the stock rom. I flashed Magisk and did a backup before and that was all.
