How far goes standalone in europe? - Samsung Gear S2

Hey,
I'm from germany and I really want the Gears s2 with GPS onboard.
But after a bit of researching I found a post which says that the standalone feature doesn't work at all in europe.
Is this completely right or is it only the mobile network which doesn't work?
Thanks:good:

TV Tuner and/or GPS built in WM5 PPC to replace HTC Uni...

Hi,
I'm finally selling my MDA Pro (eBay item 300008341567 if anyones interested...) and looking for a replacement. To which I'd like to ask if any of you have any knowledge of these phones....
I like the idea of the TV tuner, which the G-Smart has, but can't find anywhere in the UK to get it, does anyone have any opinions on this phone, know where I can get one, or know whether there are any other phones with TV Tuner built in. Also, does this phone have GPS? Some reviews I read say yes, some no. (It's the black one I'm after, not the orange square one.)
The other phone is the Mio A701, purely as it's one of the only WM5 phones I can see that are quite fast and has built in GPS...
Does anyone know of anything else on the market now, or soon, that has a TV Tuner and/or GPS built in, that is a WM5 touch screen, pocket PC phone?
Cheers!!
Hello, i will never recomend you to buy any Gigabyte / i-teq phone before you read all my comments and also from others about this phone at pocketpcdubai.com , then you will know what kind of crap it is and what kind of support you will get, NONE.

Sorry, I know you said comments at pocketpcdubai.com... but I can't get to that site, throws up not found errors
You might want to take a look at ETEN G500 (no tuner but pretty fast and has GPS) also the HP 6900 which has everything except a descent screen.
Any way in my opinion, most phones with GPS today are lacking in other features (usually WiFi) and it's better to get a BT GPS and a good
phone.

Hi,
I never really had any problems with the Universal, it's a complicated phone so will never run truely perfect. Like most things, you look for a fault, you'll find one...
The only things I could mention that were annoying, is it would sometimes take a while to ring and notify me of incoming calls, even with patches and fixes that others produced.

Thank's for your input!
I know what you mean about the "all in one" but it's just getting to a stage where my belt is starting to wear out with all the extras that I want to carry in my pockets!
I've seen that EOPS SDIO Tuner, but have only been able to find a foreign supplier for them, do you know if there's anywhere in the UK as yet? Think I'd sooner have the GPS onboard, and get a TV Tuner as an extra.
dont pay too much for a SDIO tv tuner here they already set the date to when they stop broadcasting analog tv alltogether
Hi every one.
Here you can read all my bad opinions on it:

Hello
Hi User22.
I was about 98% decided to go in for iteq x bond or gsmart as they hv come officially in India...but I read yr posts at pocketpcdubai and was horrified..though there are not much comments made on the handset, I thought what u hv posted shd be atleast 60% correct and hence decided to keep the Universal..But now there is a new ROM so do u hv any other opinions...?
Yes i have more opinions: Just received a new phone from i-teq, exchanged on warranty, it is working the same very bad way, including the lates rom. Also i allready tried the lates Ubiquio rom without any improvement.
I-teq still not answering any e-mails since 2 month ago to me and others users.
Go for any other company but NOT i-teq / Unitec / Gigabyte ( this one is the real maker but they also don't answer to any one that i know from differents countries).

HTC-S730

HTC S730 ('Wings'): Has anyone spotted it already?
It's now available on Tmobiles website:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Detail.aspx?device=acc8102d-4506-4eaa-bc2f-9c7b8ec1b1e0
I may walk over to the local tmobile store later and see if they have one. You thinking about switching from your Vox?

Yeah, I'd like 3G (even though it drains the battery much faster).
And then supposably there is the 2nd video cam and a GPS receiver.
The cpu is apparently a Samsung running on 400MHz.
Combined with the same form factor as the S710 it sounds unbeatable to me.
Ah, that's the "Wing" in T-mobile's shop and is a different model.
The S730's nickname is "Wings"
Here's a preliminary spec:
http://handheld.softpedia.com/devices/HTC/HTC-S730--Wings-322.shtml
The release date is July '07

That's not the HTC wings

Everyone keeps saying it is coming out, but frankly, besides a photoshop'd mockup of this, there have been NO, repeat NO pictures of this in any form. No one has reported seeing one, no fuzzy pictures, etc. Until we get some information about this phone, some pictures, a release of info that is credible, I think that it's no where near release, and more like a Christmas time release at earliest. Seriously, why release the Vox, and then something that will blow it out of the water less than 6 months after the Vox release? It will cannibalize it's own market segment. I hope I am wrong, but with no pictures, or info on it, I don't see it as anything more than a future release, and nothing sooner.
Yes, it seems hard to imagine that they will release it so soon after the S710. However, there are different markets for both models. Don't forget that many users have no need for 3G, besides that the battery drains much faster. In that spec on pdadb.net it mentions only 12 hours! If that's true then many users are better off with the S710.
The Qalcomm MSM7200 chipset exists already since more than a year and does offer all those cool features. Usually mobile manufacturers need about a year to build phones around a new chipset. So from that point of view the timing could be right.
Here is more info about the chipset:

Anyhow, I would love to test a S730

D'you think the pic showing "active GPS" is for real or just a mockup?
GPS is a deal/no deal feature for me (in addition to the feeble battery... but as for the Vox there may be more powerful replacement batteries available).
Like for the Hermes there will most likely be a Wings100, Wings200... at least with different casing. Would a provider (like T-Mo Germany) be able to order units which are GPS hardware-deficient (lacking antenna, for instance)? For example, T-Mo Germany disabled (mechanically blocked!) the front videocall button of its "MDA vario II" Hermes variant.
How would one be able to tell if a specific S730 unit indeed has all necessary GPS hardware onboard?

Thanks for the link. Looks ok, indeed. Please keep me posted if you find a way to activate the GPS feature. Will a registry hack do?

QIGI i55?

Does anyone have this unit? If so what do you think of it? I would like a dual sim unit. I would like to know how the reception is with AT&T, and how software works on it in general. Specifcally I want to run Blackberry Connect on it. I can't seem to find a lot of feedback on the unit on the web.

which is the best alternative hacked phone to G1?

Hi everybody,
I have been trying to catch up on the recent development in android porting.
Now, I am planning to get a new phone. Since my carrier does not sell the g1, I am wondering which would be the best working alterntive? Meaning which port would allow to use most/all feature of android?
I do need gps working now or in the near future to make this a viable alternative to me.
I have been looking at the ports of which I already know of, being the port to the vogue and to the diamond.
To my understanding (please correct me) the vogue lacks the gps hardware.
So the only device left is the diamond. Or are there any other phones which I have overseen, that sport gps, and a progressing/working port of android?
To sum it all up:
Which device gets the most attention by the dev community regarding the port of android to it?
Which one is at the moment the best working port (which device)?
Which phone poses to be the most promising device for a fully fledge port in the future?
I would be quite thankful, if anybody in the know, or even someone the porting community could give me some insight or even a proper roundup on my options here.
regards and thx for your help and insights in advance,
trial
Vogue has the GPS hardware, but AFAIK, GPS is far off for any Android port.
General Mobile is coming out with an alternative Android phone, it also has dual sim slots.
http://www.generalmobile.com/new/Default.aspx?PageName=Products&ProductId=200
I'm waiting for this to come out and to see some reviews.
Check the Google Android developer page.
You can buy a developer version phone for $399
All you have to do is register as a developer which cost $25(I think).
Edit: Not really for porting to but you did mention you couldn't get a G1, so I'm assuming you're open to a native Android phone.
ok guys.
first of all, thx for your replies.
i am not really planning to get the real g1 (even the dev version), since i am not really satisfied with its hw.
i figured it'd be easier to get a used htc device off ebay, which would be capable of running android.
So, I'd be willing to wait - which device looks the most promising in running a full android port?
Is there any effort whatsoever on the gps for the vogue or any other device? Is it likely that it will work at all?
thx for your info again

[Q] Wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo?

Hi there,
Did a quick search like I am supposed to but didnt find the answer I was looking for. A quick search on our favourite online auction site and there are several listings from Honk Kong for a wireless keyboard/mouse (built in tracker ball) and it says that it is compatible with Xoom Wifi that I have. I doesnt say whether its bluetooth or wifi based as Im sure only the bluetooth would be of any use to me. It only states that the frequency is 2.4G but Im sure that some/all bluetooth devices use this frequency. Anyway, I have asked the seller to confirm how it connects and am awaiting a response. Was just wondering if anyone on here has tried one and if it works or not? Thanks in advance.

I would be very skeptical of electronics coming from Hong Kong. In case you were not aware of this, Motorola does actually make a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for the xoom. If you do a quick search on eBay for "xoom mouse", you will see several auctions with the combo for less than $60. Just my opinion, but I would rather spend a little more money on something that was not only tested with, but design for my device by the same manufacturer, especially when a little more money is only $60. I also looked at Moto's website and the keyboard is listed at only $40, didn't see the mouse. Here is a link to the keyboard:
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...-Accessories/Motorola-Wireless-Keyboard-US-EN
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
You can get the keyboard for cheap at Best Buy. I belive it will cost $20.
I use an Apple Mighty Keyboard.
If you have a Android phone there are mouse apps in the Market in which you could use your phone as a mouse.

Hi there,
Cheers for the input and advice. I had a look on ebay for the official Moto keyboard and mouse set and couldt find any for the $60 price you mentioned. I am UK based aswell so would require the UK model aand not the US key layout. The cheapest I could find from a UK seller was around £85 which seemed a little steep. I would ofcourse prefer the official products for my Xoom and unfortunately Best Buy are shutting up shop in the UK and they dont have any in stock.
Thats why I was just checking to see if anyone had tried the product I mentioned. Ill keep looking and see if I can find the official UK set at a better price. Thanks again.

Found one
Hi all,
Just want to say thanks agaon for your input and to wish you all a happy new year. I managed to find a UK official mouse and keyboard set for £64 delivered and decided it would make a nice late christmas pressie to myself. Cant wait for it to arrive as my new Samsung 42" LED smart tv is arriving tomorrow. Good times ahead.

Happy as Larry.
