Smart key programming - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Can I program the home key for my smart key single press?

Yes, just select your launcher for the shortcut.

I'm using emui, do you know if I have a launcher?

You always have a launcher, the one that comes with the phone is called Huawei Home, but had a look now and couldn't find it among the apps you can choose from.
So you'll need a custom launcher for that. I'd recommend Action Launcher. Nova and Sapphire is quite nice as well.

Thanks, not quite my home screen, but a very good solution that will probably turn out better than using my home screen.

this smart key button feature is not working on nougat beta. does anyone have a patch or something to get this to work again?

wait official OTA , Will be Fixed .

It's so annoying that there is a system process which is the H home app yet we can't find it in the list. I really like the stock launcher and I don't want to have to change to another one.

Slide Screen 2.0 Beta

Thought this was not in dev any more but it looks like they are still working on it and have released a new beta with Google Voice support. Looks pretty sweet!

Yep. Its a home screen replacement that gives youa quick glance of most important stuff on one screen. Pretty cool idea.

Yea the beat has no way to launch apps so I uninstalled it. You have to hit the hm key to leave SlideMe and go back ou tto the reg home scree. The non beta app you dont have to do that.

you can set it as a home replacement, so a launcher....or you can just use it as a normal app
if you set as a launcher then it will have it's own app drawer
I think its brill, could do with a K9 plug in though

I noticed that when trying it out. It was quite disheartening since I REALLY love the app and enjoy being able to modify which items are where on the screen layout, but without an app drawer, it's kinda.... useless.
Update: Looks like Beta 2 has been released, and app drawer functionality has made it's way back in.
Horray for the updated features as well as being able to use it as my launcher replacement!
I'm not sure if this is a bug, so I might file it as a feature request on the bug reporting page - Pressing the "Home" button on an HTC EVO doesn't bring you back to the main launcher page, instead leaves you either in an app drawer view, or in a settings menu. To get back to the launcher, you need to press the "Back" button several times.

I also find this frustrating, but overall the launcher is excellent.
I do suffer with FC's at times which just seem to not stop, but I'm overlooking these while in beta stage.

I've posted a bug report about the home button and got a response. Hopefully they end up getting a fix out for it relatively soon.
I think some of the FC's you might be getting are from the Android version you're running. You have a Sony X10? Aren't you running 1.6? I'll have to look further, but I think that the app is compatible with Eclair or above currently.
Great home replacement app! I do have some pet peeves though:
- As others have said, you cannot return to your old homescreen even when pressing the Home key several times. It would be nice for it to revert to a previous home launcher (e.g. ADW, Launcherpro) unless prompted again.
- Is it possible to make use of K9 Mail instead of GMail for the email client? A plugin of some sort would be mighty fine.
Other than that, this might be my next favorite app for Android.

The X10 has been given the 2.1 update, so thats cool.
It turns out the FC's i was getting was due to a google voice beta i had installed, so removed that and its been fine since!

If you enter the App Drawer and press Menu -> Home Settings -> Home Switching -> Toggle "Switch Homes"
I think this is what you are referring to? This should allow you to use the Home button to toggle between SS and your main launcher.
EDIT: Beta 3 was released. http://gsfn.us/t/1yjjb
Fixes "Home" button while using SS as primary launcher. I <3 the devs of this app, they REALLY listen!
Has anyone received the version expired warning? the error asks the user to look on the forums for a new beta but I can't find any.

Swipe left for Google Now

I tried searching for this and didn't find it, and I'm really curious about it.
Is it possible for the swipe left to google now (which looks incredibly smooth in the KitKat videos) to be implemented into launchers such as nova and apex? Or is that going to be a stock launcher only thing?
Just to clarify, I'm asking if a future version of Nova/apex will be able to copycat this design, not just implement another gesture that opens the google now app. The beauty of these launchers now is that they appear very similar to aosp, but they have many more features. Will that no longer be possible after this change?
Nova (paid) already has gestures that you can set to launch any app. There are 9 gestures although swipe left isn't one of them - not that it matters

Right, I guess that is one option, but it is more jarring to switch to a totally different app than the swipe gesture that it looks like KItKat has. That seem so fluid, almost like it's just another home screen.

From what I was reading, I believe that in 4.4 it actually IS another screen. I mean it's not just that the app is hidden in the background and uncovered by a gesture, it is an option to have google now to take up a page in the layout.

Nova right now cant do anything like the google launcher for kk. When you swipe right there is an actual google now home page.

i really hope that nova will implement this and all the other cool stuff from the new kk launcher... something like a more customizable stock launcher
The google launcher is basically an extension of the Google search app. Kind of like Facebook home. I doubt nova will be able to integrate this unless the build it themselves into nova. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...e-kitkats-primary-interface-is-google-search/

I suppose an app like GMD gestures could help you achieve the same effect

I think it would be cool if you can swipe left to any app of your choice, even if the app has to go on pause.

Remove what? The launcher? You can just install Apex launcher and use that instead if you wanted. If you really wanted to remove it you will need to uninstall it through titanium backup, but I wouldn't recommend that.

how to run any launcher on any device(question)

Is it possible for someone to develop a sort of "platform" launcher where you can select an apk to run as a launcher? Like when you press home, it opens the "platform" which then loads a launcher from an apk file? Has anyone done this or is it impractical?

But if u r talking about custom launchers, they already exist
No, I mean like somebody develops an app where it appears to be a launcher, but then when you go to it for the first time, you select an apk from storage to load when you press home.

That's what the app drawer is for. If you want to be able to press the hone button then select an app to open then just put that/those apps on home screen, then when you press home(just like you would with what you're asking) just select the app you want to open(again, just like you would with what you're asking).
The point is, either way, you're pressing home then choosing an app(this means you'll be pressing home once then selecting an app to open, a total of two button presses), putting the app/apps on homescreen will give you the same thing, you'll press home then tap your app to open(a total of two button presses). You already have the ability to set what you want up without having to modify anything.
-_- lol no! I mean like taking a launcher apk that you normally couldn't run and basically giving it a way to run

Like one that you would need root to install(by placing directly in system folder) such as a galaxy s6 stock launcher. Do you at least get what I'm saying because you're making me feel kinda dumb lol

No, your options are installing a launcher/theme that imitates the launcher you want from play store, there are many of them to try.
If you want the actual stock launcher from another device instead of something that imitates it then you'd have to port that launcher to work on the device you want it on. What you're asking assumes that all devices are the same because the launcher you envision would have to be able to work on all devices to give them all the ability to use the actual stock launcher(the S6 stock launcher for example), that can't be done because all devices aren't the same. Sure, you can make a launcher that works on all devices, but you can't make so that all devices can use whatever stock launcher you want. What you're asking about would have to be modified specifically for the device you want to use it on.

No problem, just look at it this way, the "launchers" from Playstore are not really the same as the stock launchers on devices in that the Playstore launchers are more or less just a skin with options and settings to fit user choice(it goes a little more in depth than that but mainly it just changes the surface), but a stock launcher is the UI itself along with a skin.
There is more to it than that but the specifics would confuse the point.

Double Tap screen on/off app need

Kindly help me out by providing an app or trick to to use double tap screen on or off to use it on my Honor Play.
Tried plenty from play store but non work perfectly
None will work unless you root your phone. It's the android version (7 and up) that's preventing it, not EMUI specifically. Unless, Huawei/Honor adds it as a feature, you got not no luck on having it (not perfectly). I tried this several times as well since my previous Asus Zenfone supports this feature (but only for the default launcher) but I really haven't found anything.
There is a widget that locks your screen when you press it... Just add it to bottom bar of your home screen!
It comes as part of emui system

Yep. but only for the default launcher. it can't be added if you have a different launcher. in my case, Nova.
Nova now works with gestures to lock screen on Pie.

Unable to use split screen with Nova launcher

Hello to everybody!
Is there a way to use split screen mode while using nova launcher????
I wish to find out as well ?
Works on mine with Nova installed, but only when another app is already open, not when you are on your "homescreen" (or another page of Nova if you have more than one).
"Floating Window" mode works fine on Nova though, with no other apps open.
Swipe in from left or right to open the Multi-Window dock....
Quick press an app for Floating Window.
Drag an app from the dock to the top or bottom of the screen for Split Screen mode, but as I said this only works when an app is already open, so open one of the ones you want normally first, then open the dock and drag the other app you want to the top or bottom to give you split screen.
Not all apps are compatible with Split Screen, but there is an option in Settings/System & updates/Developer Options to "Force activities to be resizable" which may help.
Actually, you can use split screen on Nova Launcher. You just have to trigger it differently. I have no idea why. This is just the result of trial-and-error.
First turn on "force activities to be resizable" from developer options.
Now when in an app. Long press the recent apps button, release it and then press the home button. This works on my Samsung J500F with unofficial Lineage OS 17.1. Let me know if it works

However, if you go to recent apps, and long-press the icon of a particular app, it shows two options- app info, and split-screen, in Lineage OS. Any luck with that?
