Changing IMEI with Octopus Box. - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everybody,
I'm looking to see if there is anybody who can change/restore my IMEI number (ideally remotely) with an Octopus Box.
My understanding is that, for all the hacks and work arounds, it's basically not possible to change it by flashing efs.img etc... not that I have backups!
I do have my original IMEI number.
Any help/advice will be appreciated.
A bit of a back story.
I rooted my phone and it was all working well for about a week. One evening I picked up my phone and the screen was black with a solid blue light. Cue numerous attempted resets via the power + vol. down keys.
No joy.
After lots of reading (mostly from here), I finally found a solution to re-flash via odin but this was failing and it all resulted in me having to re-partition the phone which seemed rather scary given I have no knowledge of all this stuff (I've been an iPhone user for the past 5 years). Eventually I got a stock ROM to successfully flash but in doing so, seem to have wiped out/corrupted efs and, as mentioned, I have no backup (mostly because I didn't know it was a thing).
My phone now is essentially a tablet, albeit a very small one. I have pretty much full functionality with the exception of phone calls/SMS because of the IMEI issue. It also says the bluetooth address is unavailable in settings, but bluetooth seems to work fine (but to be fair, I don't use for much more than connecting to a BT speaker).

Galaxy S2 constant errors?

Hi lads..
Im proud owner of Galaxy S 2 for 8month or so. Started to facing some weird problems couple days ago. First was - no WiFi connecting (No MAC Address and cant turn it off). Now Process system is not responding errors with 2 options Force close and Wait. No matter which i choose, phone does quick reboot, like when windows explorer hangs and recovers. Can it be damaged nand storage? Phone where used a lot for data storage (Around 2GB per day where written on device and erased). Still should have warranty, but its tricky, coz have no time to wait 2-4weeks. Phone never been rooted. Any tools to check internal memory health?
Thanks a lot.
If you have never rooted nor installed a custom ROM then the best thing you can do is backup using Titanium/MyBackup, restore factory defaults and start all over again.
If you have gone and changed something then you will need to give some details.
Dan
Done factory reset yesterday - no difference. Now rooted device, kinda works good, but no wifi. When i use code *#*#232338#*#* it doesnt show my Mac address, says File doesnt exists.
Ok well in your first post you mention your NAND and a lot of data transfer. You don't transfer data to the NAND, or you shouldn't be. You'll be using the 16GB internal mSD card for that.
If your MAC address has disappeared this may be a problem with the /efc mount area, which is of course in NAND. This is probably not the case though.
Now you've rooted your flash counter may have increased. I would send this back under warranty after resetting the flash counter with a USB Jig.
Unless, that is, you remember anything else you may have done to the phone like an upgrade, changing the radio/modem, or something else.
Nothing changed.. Yea you are right about Nand and internal flash drive. Will costum firmware fix it? Or should stay on current rom? Sorry my dumbness - im kinda oak in droid things..
It all depends on what the issue is. I've seen someone talking about the EEPROM being broken on similar issues like this, which requires Samsung to look at the phone.
Custom firmware can only use the parameters the hardware or /efc area can give to it in the first instance. If the wifi MAC address is gone then it's gone, simple as that.
Weird - now see MAC Address when enter code, but wifi it self is not turning on for now. It turns on, does quick scan (doesnt show any AP) and then turns off again. So will bring it to warranty service. Thanks anyway

[Q] Star N9800 unresponsive touchscreen

TL;DR - Flashed a ROM designed for N3+ (which is supposed to be same phone) but touch screen is unresponsive now. Need help with SP MDT or editing uboot
EDIT 15. July, 2014.: I've asked a guy from www.NeedRom.com to tell me his LCM driver and touchscreen which are located in factory mode (VOL- + HOME + POWER). He gave me same driver names as mine. LCM driver is RX_5720TM_813a and touchscreen is ili2113a.
I've tried removing the digitizer from my phone (lost warranty, but **** it, i'm not sending it back to china) and when i've entered factory mode again, it said touchscreen: (null).
So it seems that digitizer is properly attached (and should be working?).
Does anybody have a clue what's going on here? I've tried flashing 15 ROMs and NONE fixed the touchscreen. It's fully unresponsive. It doesn't work even if I off/on the screen few times like it worked before.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Hello everyone, like title says I have unresponsive touchscreen on my Star N9800 phone. It's pretty much a new phone, octa core, quad core GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, etc.
What I've done is I flashed the ROM designed for Star N3+ (which is supposed to be same phone) but my touch screen is unresponsive ever since then. I've googled and read some articles on xda about SP MDT. It's a tool which can help us choose the display driver we want the phone to run with. I actually ran into a problem when i downloaded SP MDT. I can select the database etc, but when i get to scatter file it just doesn't want to load it. Either it's incorrect name or file type. I've downloaded 3 original ROMs from needrom.com and strangely the scatters seem to be different. But none is accepted by SP MDT. I need someone of knowledge who can teach me where to find uboot and how to edit it correctly. I'm not a linux/android programmer and I really don't wanna get involved into much programming. I understand basic stuff, i can find files on the system, i can edit build prop correctly, remove or edit boot_logo, boot anim etc, but this is a bit more than that. 2
Please share some knowledge with me and please don't point me to google. There's no solution there, i've googled for 3 days now. The last resort for me is to make a post here (and hopefully don't get ignored for spamming because this isn't spam).
My email is: [email protected] - you can notify me here if I don't get automatically emailed by xda.
Thanks in advance.
BUMP
Have no solution but would like to learn as well if anyone can help us...
I had the same issue but gave up and flashed another rom instead.
Flashing another ROM didn't help my problem. Well partially it did. I've flashed 2014-1-7 original N9800 ROM and the touchscreen only needs 1 or 2 off/ons till it starts working. I'm kinda fine with it because it was completely unusable. Flashing drivers with SP MDT didn't really help. I've tried flashing RX5720TM_828A (from N3+ ROMs) and LP057APK (default in N9800 ROMs) and RX5720TM_813A (2nd in N9800 ROMs), and so far my touchscreen works only with 813A LCM driver. When i turn off the phone and then hold VOL- & POWER & OFF/ON it goes to factory mode. There i clicked version and it showed that 813A is installed as LCM driver, BUT touchscreen says (null). Could it be that my digitizer is no longer connected or what? Cuz it sometimes works correctly without turning the display off/on at all.
EDIT 15. July, 2014.

Even if i boot into recovery, screen doesn't react to touches.

Apparently it's the calibration which ****ed up my phone. I'm now trying to figure out how to calibrate the screen through CWM.
ever find a solution?
i have a star n9800 too. suddenly i have been having all of the same issues, but here is the kicker: i never flashed anything but the stock rom that came with my phone, which was the same as kitkat version available on needrom.com. i have tried full factory resets, i have restored my original backup, none of it has fixed my phone. in factory mode, everything tests fine, but even when i launch in to TWRP, about 75% of the time, my touch doesn't work. i am wondering if one of the cables inside has come loose or something, but it is so intermittent that i find it doubtful.
hopefully you have found a solution that you can share with me.

Touchscreen - hardware failure
Hi,
I am wondering if you may have experience and be able to help me with my Star N9008 phone which has has had its touch screen stop working while I had it in storage for about 3 months.
Very well stored, no shock, no humidity. I keep it with my laptop backpack as a spare in case my everyday phone fails.
Today I powered it up to make sure battery was good (found it good at 95%) and update applications, etc. Basically, just checking it was still good to serve as a backup should I need it.
Thing is, I found the touch screen is completely unresponsive. Connected a mouse to it and verified all was working good, did up the updates, etc.. using the mouse. Reboot and boot into service mode and restore menu. Also, no touchscreen response (I use TWRP). Thus, it must be hardware failure.
From experience, would you know what would cause this, and how to resolve?
Thank you.
So, its been a while.
So, it's been a while. I still have the phone in storage and pity it doesn't work...
I haven't bothered opening up the phone if I don't know what to really try and also risk damaging it.
Also didn't bother ordering a new digitizer to replace as it's economically unviable.... the phone is now really getting behind as new tech is further evolving, so I do unfortunately see it going in the rubbish soon (along with two brand new batteries I had purchased for it just before it died).
Has anyone been successful at finding the culprit?
In my case, it was fine and very well stored... so I don't really have an explanation other than the phone possibly having a 'countdown timer' to break it... (yeah, a bit too conspiratorial, lol)
I did not find a solution yet , phone still sits in storage

Wifi / Bluetooth / Sim Card Issues Since Last Two OTA Updates

I received an OTA Update in early to mid May. I am now forgetting which version I received at that time. ( I forget as I have done so many downgrades/upgrades/factory resets in my troubleshooting the last month!) Up until these issues, I've never rooted or flashed a ROM, or unlocked boot loader or anything. My N5 had always been completely stock.
First Issue
It all started with just the sim card. I get "no sim card" message, even though it was in there. This was my original SIM card and I had never ejected it since I bought it new. I found I could turn it off, pop it out and back in, and boot it again. Sometimes it will see the sim card again. It may take 20 times, but finally work.
I naturally got a new sim card, as well as confirmed said sim cards worked in other phones. My wifi and bluetooth were working fine at first. Working with google support, they recommended a factory reset to fix the sim card issue. Immediately after the factory reset, my bluetooth would no longer turn on nor show a MAC address. At this point, my wifi was fine.
Second Issue
In addition to the sim card slot issue, now my Bluetooth no longer works! Around this time, I received another OTA update, this time it was 5.1.1 LMY48B. I had hoped it would fix the issues, but no dice! I start reading up on the XDA forums as I am determined to start rolling back to see if this will fix anything. I unlocked the boot loaded, rooted, etc following the threads on XDA
Third Issue
I do all sorts of flashing to hammerhead-krt16m_4.4 to hammerhead-ktu84p_4.4.4 to hammerhead-lrx21o_5.0 to hammerhead-lmy48b_5.1.1 . On the final flash back to 5.1.1 my wifi now no longer works!!!!!!!!!!! It is stuck at wifi turning on and no MAC address shows. It also seems my cell data is very very slow now!
After many calls to google, I think I finally succeeded in getting a “ticket routed up”. My phone is from the play store around 10/31/2013. They keep pushing I am out of warranty. I attempt to ask for a refurb N5 without luck so far. I am not very confident anything will come from google. This being my only handset now, it is just not an option to send this to LG. My current state is my voice/txt and cell data are working. Data seems a little slow but usable. Wifi and bluetooth won't turn on. I also still have the sim car slot issue upon rebooting. After a bunch of reboots it will eventually see sim card.
What else can I try? Is there a better way to attempt to repair/reload my radio drivers? Perhaps there is corruption of sorts? I have not tried a custom ROM or radio or kernel…… I did take to a local tech. They looked at everything literally under a microscope and did not see any issues that way. I am in the USA and have a lgd820. Although we are quick to assume a hardware issue, I am wondering if there is some sort of incompatibility with the first run of N5 and lollipop….. who knows!
I’ve read all sorts of threads on the internet. It seems I am not the only one. We are very quick to assume it must be a bad motherboard, it just seems too coincidental to me!

Hi,
This link was actually what i was going to suggest. It seems you've tried pretty much everything in the book except that.
I think its worth a try. Same as any other learning process, take your time and read the whole thing once or twice until you feel comfortable with the process. Then go for it.
Darn it, I should have downloaded those programs BEFORE rooting my phone again. Now I a struggloing to get my SIM card detected again to get data to DL them! whooops!
How would I go about attempting to read my files first to see if they are accessible and potentially write down my old MACs first?
EDIT: I found this but not sure how to get that working? I have Windows 7 and CMD prompt at this point. what program is that using?

OK, I went through those steps. everything appeared to go through correctly. Still no wifi nor bluetooth
EDIT: I rebooted a second time. WHen it first boot up, wifi was on and connected to my works AP. I quickly went in and snagged a screen shot of MAC address. Oddly enough, it did not match what I had input via hex editor. Within a few moments the wifi stopped working. It is back to the turning wifi on issue..... bluetooth still not working as well.
Very interesting.....
EDIT2: I get access denied when attempting to read either files within their corresponding folders under persist.
I was able to copy my stock files into my sdcard download folder and read them there without issue. Thus seeing my default addresses for both!
Perhaps it is normal, but I am never able to edit the old or new files under persist. I basically renamed original folders to bluetoothold and wifiold. I could delete them perhaps.
Note that I put my phone into airplane mode before doing anything noted in the steps.
Any other ideas? Given that it is showing my original MAC address the one time it worked, this makes me think that it is not reading the files .macaddr at all
I have the same problem. Funny thing is, the phone is just over 2 years old and the motherboard was replaced just 9 months ago (so, brand new one).
In my case, I received and Android update 2 days before I found the phone burning hot and restarting on it's own. Then the same chain of events you describe started to unleash. Now I can't be sure if this is software related, hardware related or both.
Can't seem to find a solution to the issue either.

I'm facing the same issues and I tried all the possible steps I could find on internet trying to repair the problem.
Actually, since the latest updates I was encountering some issues with the WiFi only: not turning on either off and not showing properly the MAC addres. So I decided to factory reset, even SDcard and since yesterday I have tried all the possibile guide I found to internet to fix the MAC address not showing and the WiFi not turning on/off but nothing worked. I tried even to flash again the old factory images, such as KitKat, Lollipop, etc., to lock the bootloader again and to dismantle the phone in order to clean the motherboard, but nothing worked. Phone still gives me MAC address 02:00:00:00:00:00 alternatively with the correct one, I can't figure out on what it depends because sometime it seems to work: it shows the correct MAC, it connects to wifi network; suddenly it doesn't!
I'm really going crazy to understand what's wrong.
You'll have to dig up my final posts on this , but in a nutshell, send into LG for repair, select cheapest option they offer. Receive mint phone. My cost was $45 and about one month... I picked up a cheap $20 phone to get me by.
In other news.... I now have a 6p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No LTE after flashing custom kernel. Corrupted NV items?

Hello everyone.
I recently attempted to install a custom kernel (ElementalX) on my Nexus 5 D820. During this process, I encountered a bootloop while installing TWRP, which is probably the event that has caused the nightmare my phone has been in the past few weeks. Essentially, ever since then, LTE has not been working on my phone, and the rest of the cellular connectivity has been quite bad. Actually, LTE does work, but only for about 10 minutes. After this, if it is turned on, it will crash ALL cellular connectivity, including phone calls and texts, until I turn it off.
Initially, I believed that the custom kernel was the cause. I therefore flashed stock ROM back, thinking it would solve the problem (spoiler alert: it didn't). I then tried flashing many different stock ROMs, from KitKat to Lollipop and pretty much any variety of Marshmallow offered. This still didn't fix the problem. After this, I tried flashing individual radios from http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095, which still did not fix the problem.
I then realized that the problem wasn't in any of the files normally affected by flashing a new ROM and started reading up on the EFS partition. From what I can gather so far on my phone, I believe that I have a slightly corrupted EFS partition and that this is causing the stability issues on my phone. I tried restoring from a good qcn file as suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...efs-backup-t2769023/post60421668#post60421668 and that has still not fixed my problem. I tried about 4 or 5 different qcn files, restoring in different order, wiping the block partitions like suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/request-3g-2g-lte-d850-t3300908 and that still didn't work.
But I didn't give up just there! I read from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 that you could edit NV items individually and figured that maybe I could try to edit the LTE NV items to their default values. Turns out, they were at their default values and they are fine.
At this point, I thought I had tried everything, but while attempting an NV item backup using Qualcomm NV Tools in EFS professional, I noticed an odd error that kept happening. All of the NV items would back up properly, BUT, the backup process would crash for NV items 33799 to 33802 and 33810 to 33812, every time, no matter what. Also, exactly when I tried reading these NV items, the phone cellular network goes down for about 10 seconds, as it normally does when LTE is activated. I therefore believe that these NV items may be corrupt and that cellular network stops working whenever they are read, which for some reason only occurs when LTE is turned on (I'm far from an expert in this field, correct me if what I'm saying makes no sense).
At this point, I've pretty much given up on fixing the phone, but thought I would reach out to xda-devs to see if anyone had any experience with this. Not having LTE is not a huge deal, but I would be quite happy if I could bring it back.
What I'm asking: If anybody with a Nexus 5 D820 could try doing an NV Backup using Qualcomm NV Tools and see if NV items 33799 to 33802 and 33810 to 33812 crash their phone, that would be much appreciated. If I know at least that this is a problem unique to my phone, it can point me in the right direction. On the other hand, if it's widespread across Nexus 5 devices, my problem may be something else completely.
What I'd really, really, really appreciate: If a kind soul could give me a full EFS backup of their working phone, I would be extremely grateful. I'm pretty sure that this would fix all my problems, and I would be forever grateful to the kind person that does this. Of course, you may wipe your ESN/MEID/IMEI before sending the file.
tl;dr
LTE doesn't work since flashing kernel. Probably corrupt EFS partition. If some can check if NV items 33799 to 33802 and 33810 to 33812 can be backed up on Qualcomm NV Tools, that would be great. If someone can send me a full EFS backup of their Nexus 5, that would be amazing.
I dont know if it is still relevant for you but i got the same issue..
I got two Nexus 5 D821 (dont ask why two of them )
Wanted to move a full backup from the first one to the second...
I didnt know about the efs partition and what it is so i also told twrp to backup it from my first device too... and restoring it on the second device screwed my imei (showed 0)...
SO DO NOT BACKUP EFS ON ONE PHONE AND MOVE WITH IT TO ANOTHER ONE!!!! EVEN IF IT IS THE SAME PHONE TYPE!!!!
I managed to get my imei back somehow with editing NV items, restoring backups from QPST files and so on... (Worked at least 20 hours so far)
The only advantage that I have is that the first phone i came from is still untouched on his efs, so i try to backup the nv data and got the same errors as you!
I am currently working on this and got the same errors backing up nv items from the untouched nexus...
So probably thats not the problem, just skip these values and try to restore the nv as parts
If you need the nv backups you can contact me at [email protected]
Perhaps I am able to help
Brother, did you solve the problem?

Verizon Galaxy SG 3 i-535 failure to load efs

Folks,
During a recent power outage my battery completely drained for the first time. Powering on after a full charge, started getting screen msgs (yellow text) info on some system internals. tried rebooting, and got "failure to load efs". and the phone comes back up in Factory test mode. I had never attempted any modification on this phone and everything looked stock to me. I had bought used from B&H, so cannot swear to its complete history. Samsung recommended a "smart Recovery from Best Buy that after two swap-outs i am still getting all the above msg's. I have no experience in rooting or anything else, but have a background in software. Info found through searches seems to indicate Verizon Samsung sg3's may be the most difficult to add mods. I found a stock rom, and loaded it successfully via odin. Best Buy guy said he loaded an original stock as well, and still no luck. Even though this happened after a hardware issue, and i know its firmware, at a loss as to what is causing this. it generally degrades performance of the phone in everything, including linking to playstore to download apps. I have everything backed up, with nothing to lose if anyone has a path to a working phone....I'm game. running 4.4.2
