Bezel moves when I'm sleeping and wakes up watch - Samsung Gear S3

Seems when in 'do not disturb mode' and I'm sleeping, the bezel turns when it touches the sheets and then the watch wakes up. Wife complains it's like a flashlight on her face. I also seem to have the same issue when the bezel contacts my long sleeve shirt cuffs. We need to have a way to disable the bezel at least when in do not disturb mode. Anyone else notice this.other than this, I'm loving the S3.

Turn the brightness at 1 before you sleep. Helps a lot.
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app

Also choose a dark (and simple) watchface. So that if accidently comes on its not bright.

I like that idea, is it use scotch tape, or drink a lot of scotch before bed? :good:

I wouldn't know if mine wakes up while I'm sleep... I'm usually sleep at the time. The wife hasn't mentioned it but she's usually sleep also. I'm trying to picture in what position I'd have to be in to get the dial to turn.... Okay, laying on my left side with my hand up by my head... I could see how that would blind a sleeping person.

Both! And good drink for wife

It bothers me and my wife too, hope for solution

Happens to me also. End result is that I can't sleep with it on.

look for an app in the Gear Store called Theatre Mode...
Install, then add it as a widget, it toggles the brightness of the watch down to very low setting and back to normal with a single screen tap (much faster than manually adjusting the brightness)
Just activate it before bed and then toggle it off again in the morning, best of all its free

sleeping is not only the problem, I use it with longs sleeves and it always wake up and send messenges to people, and get into apps, and drain the battery down. I wish there an option to wake it up only by pressing the side buttons instead. its a night mare and Im about to give up on it if samsung dont come up with a solution.

As I've written in that thread, I use that app to prevent my hiking pole straps and/or bicycle gloves from prematurely terminating my hike/bike trips logs. The straps/gloves accidentally hit the buttons or turn the bezel and terminate logging.

Latest update has this feature
Just updated watch to latest version, there is now an option to disable bezel wake up
settings -> device->bezel wake-up -> off
hoorah!

[Q] WTF? Access to the notification tray while screen locked?

Who was the wise guy who thought that the notification tray didn't need to be locked with the rest of the screen?
After the ICS update, it seems that my notification tray is sometimes open when I pull the phone out of my pants' pocket. Since this isn't just a notification tray anymore and one can actually do sensitive actions over there, not to mention accidentally closing important notifications, I would say this is a very bad idea. I couldn't find any option to turn this "feature" off.

Well you should not have upgrades to ICS then or done the proper research into what was in ICS cause that is part of the 4.0 Android OS now. Me personally I love it.
So, you are saying there is no way to turn this off? It seems very strange to not have an option for this..

If you enable a screen lock then it will disable that function. Otherwise, it's actually a nice feature to have IMO.

OK, so I set up a pattern now and the issue is solved. But now I have 2 lockscreens instead of 1 :-( . Wasn't there supposed to be an option to unlock the screen straight to desktop (pattern in my case)?

Nope. You don't have two lockscreens, you have a lockscreen and a security screen. It's performing normally.
I know there is nothing actually wrong with this, but it just makes the phone harder to use. I mean slower to make a quick phone call, or quickly open an IM app and reply.
usually..
usually you can disable it, if you have the development function on your htc settings for ics, usually there is a function in the lockscreen part where it asks you to keep taskbar on top or untouchable after lockscreen is on.. try to look on accessibility and security or else download 'rom toolbox' and there should be a function where it allows u to enable or disable this function

Um... besides, you can't "do" anything with it unless you touch the screen. Are you touching the screen while the phone is in your pocket?

I keep my phone with the screen facing my leg and when there's moisture in my pocket, like in the summer for instance, I'm pretty sure things are happening that aren't supposed to happen
Also, the power button is somehow positioned that sitting down in the car for example accidentally pushes on it.
You could argue that only tight pants cause this issue, but c'moon

Buy an Incipio NGP case, which has a reinforced power button cover.
Never again will you have accidental power-button presses.
It's silly that you want to get rid of such a great feature. My phone always faces my leg in my pocket, and in the 10 months that I've owned my phone, I have NEVER pulled my phone out with the phone unlocked by my pocket.
Thinking more and more about it, it does seem to be a nice feature. I might give it a second chance, despite that only having it for 1 day and already found it open by mistake....

[Q] Can't double tap to wake up my new watch. How do you live with this?

Hello all,
Just got the SmartWatch 1 for a good price. I'm enjoying the notifications and call screening a lot.
But I can't wake the watch.
Double tapping does not work.
Having the phone on all the time while it's moving will drain the battery in 3 seconds flat.
The one where you are supposed to move the watch horizontally and the display will turn on is a joke. It simply doesn't do a thing.
A friend got his too and we have the same issues.
Other than turning it on with the power button, is there a ay to "fix" the double tapping thing?
Any help will be appreciated!

It's strange. Yep, it'll sometimes wake up and most of the time it won't. But I have better luck tapping the strap, as someone suggested. So. Weird!
Still. This looks to me like one of the greatest stupid things ever. I mean, it doesn't do much - but in a single day, I now wonder why nobody invented it before. It rocks!
This thing is an error.
Double tap to wake function only works if the watch goes to sleep when its on the default clock screen.

Update or bad screen?

Hey people
Got my smart watch about 4 days ago and it was all good until tonight and now for some reason i can't see the clock anymore unless i press the power button :S i could have sworn it had a low light mode and the clock was visable ok but since tonight i can't see the time unless there's a light pointing straight at the watch. I hooked it upto the service centre thing and updated it through that but hasn't helped.
am I going mad here and just seeing things? :S
EDIT: i also noticed when i turn it off i get some weird colours appearing in the clockface some pinks/purples. i don't understand it was ok a couple of hours ago and it's been on my wrist the whole time :S
Did you try to reset the watch? Also our you have any custom clocks installed, remove them. As after reset, Sony smartwatch app will reinstall them on the watch, once the watch and the phone are connected.
On your watch, go to settings and tap reset watch.

Just to make it clear, you are not talking about the low power mode right? No backlight, but can be still seen by people in ambient light??? Maybe you should take a picture of the watch so we can clearly see what is going on.
At night my sw2 turns of the screen completely. But when I MOVE the watch it turns on the clock on the display. I think it has an accelerometer that turns off the screen when no movement is detected.

It is a feature to save battery when it isn't worn.
I am more curious as to the "watch (display) turns on from moving it". Does the SW2 have an accelerometer? My watch display doesn't kick on when I move it. Or was this a feature of the earlier SmartWatches?

I believe SW2 does have an accelerometer. Put your watch on a table, leave it untouched for while, screen completely turns off. Not even the low power watch mode is displayed. But once you move it, low power watch comes back on (without the backlight). I observed it many times when it was charging and when left at the bed side table.
But it is not utilized for backlight function. That is a missing feature people are asking for. But I don't really need it. Just like a regular watch, I press a button to turn the light on when I can't see it in the dark.

Wow... I didn't even notice the screen going completely black after sitting for a while. I am still on watch honeymoon, and either the watch is on my wrist or turned off and on the dresser. But sure enough, it does go into a deeper "sleep" mode and wakes up when I pick it up. Nice!
I do see that having it wake to the backlit mode would be nice but it would seem to kill the battery since when worn it would be in more constant movement. Unless they tuned the accelerometer to only wake when a more significant motion happens.

Yeah the previous iteration of smartwatch from Sony did not have always on watchface and it was a necessity. And to see the time you had to turn on the display. One way was to double tap on the watch screen to wake it up. Another way was to light up the screen by lifting your arm and turning the watch towards you. But the second way never really worked reliably.
But I don't think SW2 needs that. As we already have always on watch with great readability even in places where there little light.

Gear S2 classic - screen turns off even if it is on the (always on mode)

Hi,
I just bought my Gear S2 classic yesterday.
I am using the (always on mode) and disabled the wake up gesture.
Even though I am using the (always on mode), some times the screen switchs off and I need to press on any button to wake it up.
Any idea on this? is it a fault?
Thanks,
So.. anyone faced this?
Thanks,
I've had this too. Tried everything to figure out why the clock didn't go in to ambient mode. Gave up trying in the end
Then, it sorted itself out the other day after I had rearranged the order of the apps on the app wheel. I'm sure this was just a coincidence though.

it happens with other watchfaces as well.
my settings:
- always on option is selected (on).
- wake up gesture is not selected (off).
problem: some times the watch hands turns off (like if the "always on" option is not selected.
it works fine for some time and then suddenly i look at the watch.. to find the screen black.
actions taken: using the original watchface, uninstalling Mr. time watchface... factory reset.... non of them helped.

I thought I was having the same problem, but then put the watch on my wrist and all of a sudden it went into ambient mode. With wake up gesture on, the screen goes to full mode when I glance at the watch. But if I remove the watch from my wrist and put it on the table, the screen goes off completely.
So I guess it detects when watch is on your wrist and acts accordingly.
Hope that helps.

What you are saying is absolutely right regarding the watch screen turning off when you take it off your wrist for power saving.
but I think what we are talking about is a sort of bug... (when you have always on-on and wake up gesture-off, and the watch will randomly blank the screen while you are wearing it ...) like what is explained in the previous link (another thread).

Let's hope this is a software issue and Samsung might be able to fix it with a patch very soon.
Are you using the standard strap? I got really frustrated after I put the watch on a perlon band because the ambient mode suddenly wasn't working, and then I realized the strap was covering the heart rate sensor, which is how the watch knows whether or not it's on a wrist. I cut a hole in the strap (and heat-sealed the edges) and back to ambient mode.

Hmm.. I am using the standard strap.. but like to make it lose.. do you think it should be tight on hand ? .. and are you sure it is the heart rate sensor is the one that monitors? or it is by movement..
I got the latest firmware yesterday (that was in Korea few days ago).. and the same problem happened again... so i thought it is a bug and not yet fixed...
i will try to make the watch sealed on my hand and will see.. thanks for the advise... will let you know the result
Even after tightening the strap, the display goes black after a while. So annoying... I cant believe Samsung couldn't get something so simple as always on ambient mode correctly. Their software shortcomings are increasingly becoming irritating.

problems with always-on feature

Guys, I can't, for the life of me, get the always-on screen feature to work. I've tried with the built-in watchfaces, and even made my own and tried that. No matter what, the screen turns off after about 5 seconds (regardless of what the timeout option is set to) and the AOD does not come on.
What settings do I need to make this work? I am connected to an iPhone via the leaked beta app. Everything works pretty well except for the AOD.
AOD only works when the watch is being worn.

AOD is working perfectly on my Gear S3 Classic paired to a GS7E. Can you test out AOD after linking to an Android phone? Maybe it's an iPhone thing.

OK, I figured it out. I had a NATO strap on it, and it was covering the HR sensor. Switched back to a traditional strap and AOD started working right away. Don't know why that had anything to do with it, but it did.

Probably due to the fact that AOD doesn't need to be on if you're not wearing it, or I guess if it thinks you're not wearing it. That's kind of a neat feature and a good find, who would have thought about that?
I own a Gear S3 classic with the latest firmware and i run the S3 in standalone mode without a mobile phone connected. The S3 has the original strap and ADO is enabled.
The ADO works only, when i wear the clock. The display goes off after approx. 5s as soon as i remove the clock from my arm.

That's normal. It knows you aren't wearing it, so it turns AOD off. It detects heart rate to know if it's being worn or not.
