Just wondering who is planning on changing smart watches from their Sony SmartWatch 2 to one of the newly announced Android Wear smart watches? Also interested in who has already made the swap.

I'm kind of hanging out for the Moto 360 to be released in Australia. The reviews don't seem to be all that positive at the moment but it is an attractive watch

I will move on. Sony abandoning SW2 tells me I should too.

The Sony Smartwatch 2 does everything I need it to..the way I like it too. Very sad that Sony have jumped to Android Wear. I don't like Android Wear so far and I cant see that changing. And Google are far to intrusive for me.
I intend to buy another Smartwatch 2 as a spare, just to be safe. I tried not wearing the Smartwatch 2 for a couple of days and every time my phone got a text or a call I looked at my wrist. Its a hard habit to break once you get used to a Smartwatch.

I couldn't have said it any better. No current touchscreen smartwatch has addressed my primary concern, which is battery life. Right now, I can squeeze two full days of battery with my SW2, anything less than that is not worth taking the leap.

i charged my sw2 two times a week. it lasts 3-4 days in my light use.... notification, reading sms/emails/news/browsing web...

It last a week for me, but thinking to buy de moto 360 becaus it looks better with the round display.
only point i will miss is that it has not a transflective screen.

I won't because I'm not fan of Android Wear. If SW2 will die some day, I'll have a look on things actually at this moment. For now I can't imagine to change Smartwatch...

LG is really much easier to use and does a lot more than something practically doing nothing. "OK Google" : setup an alarm in 4H, weather, reminds me dentist 27 september at 13H, takes a note take the car to the garage next month, my remind for today, new event doctor october 28 at 18H34 .... everything is done almost without touching anything and without hands.

Yeah this is something I'm looking forward to as I use google now on my phone and find it quite useful. But battery life is still a concern for me.

i wonder if we'll ever see another update for the SW2
i'd still really like to see a selectable screen/message timeout

what would you guys really want from an update?

i love my sw2..i am goin to stick with this for work nd i ordered a moto 360 on release.. thats for me to go out with or if i want to feel real dressy at work. not sure how much i will like android wear but i do like the new designs of watch..360 nd zen r my fav..the new sony looks cool but they make buy there bands only...good luck on your decision.

I'd like to see Sony add a pseudo Google Now feature in which you trigger Google now from your watch but it uses your phone's microphone and displays info on the watch.

I've never seen too much of interest to Google Now on the phone. I thought it would be the same on the watch. In fact it is totally different on the smartwatch. Voice commands are used instead of the menus on the screen and response. "Start Evernote" instead of power + home + swip and find evernote icon + click icon. The smartwatch remains lit shorter and it consumes less energy.
Many Android applications already run with wear without the need for an additional application to find for the smartwatch. Ex : AllTheCooks -> you have a Wear Shopping List, CalenGoo -> you have an "Add new Event" with vocal command in Wear.....

I just got a SW2 and im not changing for a long while, maybe when battery drain improves. This ones lasts 2 days with regular use. Moto 360 has received bad reviews about battery drain and slow performance. The new LG G Watch R seems a lot better and looks even better.

I was hoping it would be an improved classic version of the Huawei Watch. One we could use with a suit and tie. In my opinion we already have enough sporty smartwatches.

Although I'm sure they'll sell plenty of these watches, I agree that the market probably doesn't need more 'sporty' smartwatches. There's plenty of them already. On the plus side, perhaps this means that Huawei will continue to manufacture, sell and support the Watch 1 as it appears it is still, in my opinion, the best looking 'classy' Android Wear watch available.

Totally agree. But regarding thickness Today I finally had the chance to see a Huawei Watch 1st gen in person and its not thicker that my Moto 360 1st generation. My main motivation to upgrade from my Moto 360 1st generation, which I paid 160 euros one year and a half ago, is looks (even though I also like the classic versus futuristic look of my Moto) but specifically battery life. Besides not having a true ambient Mode, even with it off sometimes I don't get to the end of the day with battery life and when listening to music directly from the smartwatch my battery lasts half and hour or 45min. Is the Huawei better in that department?

I've had both (360 1st gen) and now the Huawei Watch for a long time. The difference is HUGE! The Huawei Watch always out last my phone (Xperia Z3, easily the horrible S6 Edge Plus, S7 Edge and Mi Mix).
The OLED display makes it no problem to have the ambient mode activated at all times. The screen is 1,4 inch, perfect since 42mm is the biggest a wristwatch can be unless you're a rapper or a used car salesman. The dpi is still best on the market. It could be slimmer, but it's OK. Worth it for the battery life. Even if it doesn't charge at night (the charge-connection can be unstable) it usually last until I'm home from work.
Do I like it? Yes. It's easily the best smart watch on the market. The reviews saying Gear S3 or Apple Watch are very very wrong.
So I figured the only watch to eclipse the Huawei Watch would be the Huawei Watch 2... Guess not.

I've found that the estimate Huawei provides of 1.5 days to be fairly accurate. As long as I use an OLED-friendly watch face (mostly blacks), I typically have 35% power or so remaining after a long day. I'm not too sure about battery drain during music playback but I'm sure playing music over Bluetooth or via the speaker would drain the battery at a significantly faster rate.
I agree with thklinge. With the cold-forged 316L stainless steel casing, sapphire crystal and 400x400 OLED display, it's easily the best smartwatch on the market to this day.

What Classic version? This new version is anything but classic. It's completely sporty, like for scuba diving [emoji41]

We already have this watch - LG Watch R. And I don't get it - why the smaller res? I think I'll get the "old" one today ...

Huawei Watch 3

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew when the Huawei Watch 3 might be released? I like everything about the 2 apart from the lack of proper waterproofing. I am tempted to get the gear sport as it is perfect for me but the three reasons I haven’t gotten it yet are because number 1, it has very limited apps, 2, it only has s voice and not Bixby and 3, it has no speaker. One thing that was really important for me was the speaker so I could play music without headphones. I am willing to spend 300$ on the Watch. The gear sport would have been perfect apart from those three things. The two problems with the Huawei Watch 2 were number 1, the lack of rotating bezel or anything like that and also 2, the low battery life. I loved everything else like all the activity tracking, google to talk to and the great app support. The once main reason I couldn’t get the gear sport was because of no speaker. I know it’s hard to make it waterproof and with a speaker but Apple have done it with the Apple Watch 3. If not the Huawei Watch 3, does anyone know of any other upcoming android Smartwatchs or other that might be coming soon? Will I have to wait till next February until the Huawei 3 I wonder... Thanks and I hope someone can help.

I was also close to buy the samsung gear sport because of the water proofing. But as you say it is sad that you can not use it for speaking. And no 3G/4G i think.

And because all of the sensors the battery life is not so good. It is nice that you can use it stand alone as a phone with 4G, but actually you can only use it emergency phone because with 4G enable the battery drains fast. You have to enable 4G when you need it....

My solution for having Phone + data for all the day is to force cellular in 3G in watch prefs (instead of 4G). 4G drain battery really more faster than 3G, wich is good enough for "ok google" interactivy...

It is water proof..
- IP68 certified - dust/water proof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes
- Water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes

It's water and dust resistant, nothing more. Showering isn't advisable.
As for the Watch 3 I hope it's a sporty looking one like the Watch 2. I think the Watch 1 looks like a midrange Timex. I want a big and rugged watch!

I bought the 4xl for a friend and setting it up for him. He also wants a watch that is fully compatible and has great battery.

I'm a Fossil Gen 5 running Wear OS owner and my wife is a FitBit Versa 1 owner. My Gen 5 for sure is smartwatch as it's main priority so it's definitely more feature full in terms of interactions with notifications. My wife loves how I can reply with either voice to text, drawing or selecting an emoji, or swiping to type a message on a little keyboard. However, the battery life is definitely a daily charge especially if you sleep track. I top it off in the morning and before going to sleep. Her Versa 1 is much more limited in smartwatch functions but does have a better minimum 4-5+ day battery.
I would say a Wear OS device with good battery is the TicWatch Pro with 4G/LTE. It's actually the same price as the Fossil but has the option for 4G/LTE, larger screen, and has a second, low battery usage screen that extends it's like to 2+ days depending on usage. I would say the downside is the design but that's personal preference and it's got an older processor. Don't get the non-4G/LTE version of the TicWatch Pro because it has only 512MB compared to 1GB and it makes a big difference for performance.
Samsung's are pretty good and run their own Tizen OS but I hear you only get the most out of them with Samsung phones. Not 100% sure.
I believe all these devices have Black Friday deals going on right now so make sure he chooses sooner than later.

Depending what He wants you can also look at Fitbit.
Mine shows time, heart rate and sleep besides the usual walking running etc and are cheaper and have longer battery life then some of the more expensive ones.

Ran into issues with LTE on my Galaxy Active Watch 2 and the Pixel 4 XL.
Besides that, my battery life has suffered while on the watch. I used to average a decent 6 hours of SoT, it's down to about 5 now when I've got a notification heavy day. ymmv

I have Garmin Fenix 5x. 12 to 14 days between charges.
Garmin has bunch of smart watches for active people. It's function as smart watch is limited, but you get all the notification. Which was all i needed

I own both Samsung Gear Sport and Fitbit Versa 2. If you want fast smartwatch with a lots of features, go with Samsung smartwatches (but battery life will be ~2 days, 3 days if you turn off always on display).
If you are okay with some less functionality and great battery life, go with Versa 2 (I get around 5 days battery life with 24 hr use, except removing for an hour or so in a day, I dont turn on always on display which reduces battery life by 1.5 days)

I have the Galaxy Watch Active 2 44mm, my wife as the 40mm. Both are Bluetooth/WiFi models. The 44mm gets ~3 days of battery life, the 40mm gets just over a day. I've never really seen the appeal of paying for LTE on a watch if I always have my phone on me.

I got amazfit bip watch and it lasts about 30 days battery per charge.

I have a Fossil Q Explorist 4 HR. I love it. It looks like a nice watch, so I wear it to the office and pretty much whatever. I also use it at the gym. It has a bigger screen that a lot of smartwatches, which I have to have. The others are just to small for me to read them well. I've also had the Samsung Gear S2 and S3. I liked them, but dealing with Samsung support is the worst, so I had to move away from them. I ALMOST bought a Fossil gen 5 when they were on sale last week. But, I can't justify $200+ per year on smartwatches. Anyway, can't go wrong with Fossil. I also prefer WearOS to Samsung's Tizen and the Fitbit OS (my wife has the Blaze).

Don't buy anything without 1 gig of memory, the fellow above had it right, performance is vastly better than anything with less. As to the GUI wear plays out similarly in use across all devices so it isn't really a factor. If it's me I go with the Gen 5 Fossil and I say that having had both it and the TicWatch. Both these watches have a few value adds that the other does not but the main difference is battery life, you'll go further on the Gen 5 without invoking various battery saving features that turn your smartwatch into a not so smartwatch. Realistically a smartwatch that isn't smart isn't much of a smartwatch so I don't put much value on the super duper battery savings features, if I did I'd go back to the TicWatch. It can run for quite some time based on reviews, I can neither confirm or deny in that regard, I have never used said features on any of my smartwatches.

I had the Fossil gen 5 and oh did it suck. I thought it was supposed to be the answer for a good Wear OS watch. I took it back and got the Galaxy watch. I'm so damn happy now. I really wanted the Google Assistant but it's not worth all the drawbacks of Wear OS watch.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 battery life is amazing. I put it on the wireless charger when brushing my teeth or taking a shower, and I don't think I have ever fallen below 40%. I let it track sleep, and all my workouts. It just keeps doing its job, while sipping on the juice. I wish android wear devices were this efficient. I miss my Sony Smartwatch 3's Google Assistant and Maps integration, but I don't miss dreading if it is going to die on me. I blame Qualcomm for not innovating on the hardware front, as the the android wear hardware sucks so bad. If they had just kept pace with Samsung and Apple, I wouldn't have switched.

Love the Amazfit GTR. 50 days battery life for me. Cannot ever own Samsung, Fitbit or any other watch. Perfect watch for me

Are there any upcoming smart watches to be on the lookout for in the next few months?

Galaxy watch 2 active here, all working great on my pixel 4 xl. Only issue is that I had to install the esim on it using my work phone (Galaxy A3). Battery life is great, streams all my playlists from Spotify over 4g, sport tracking seams to be pretty accurate also.

Depending on what you need, until Google decides to put more effort into WearOS, I'm done with them. I have a Fitbit Versa 2 now and works for what I need. I had a TicWatch Pro that worked ok but WearOS was just unusable on it after some time.

I don't really need a crazy robust smartwatch that can do everything. I just have an Amazfit GTR 47mm and it does the job. Battery is insane (can last for two weeks to a month in-between charges) and that's mainly why I got it.

If you want something that runs WearOS, then the Fossil 5th gen or comparable watch is really the best thing going at this time. There is at least one other manufacture that has released a watch with the same core components as the Fossil 5th Gen and it works just as well. I don't remember the name, but it is a premium brand and more expensive than the Fossil. Personally I'm still rocking the original LG G smart watch and waiting for it to die so that I can get a Fossil 5th Gen in good conscience.
If you don't care about WearOS, then it opens the doors to lots of possibilities. Obviously the Fitbit devices work very well for what they are, but there are plenty of other choices too.

I've been doing that with my Galaxy Gear S3 Frontier just fine but I just ordered the Galaxy Watch Active 2. I tried out a friend's and it's more comfortable than my Frontier Edition. Whatever is playing on my phone I can pause/play. I can reply to WhatsApp and SMS messages too.
Google needs to wake up and take Wear OS much more seriously but in the mean time Samsung isn't a slouch with their Tizen watches. There's even a workaround to get get Google Assistant working on Tizen watches.

Fossil Gen 5 is a very good wearos watch to pair with a pixel phone.
This is not a fitness tracker and its logic is similar to the iwatch, so needs charging each night.
I have had it for some months now and since it can be found arround 230USD its worth the investment

I use a Garmin Vivoactive 3 (cheap these days). It is more fitness watch with some smartwatch features thrown in, but is good for 3-4 days on a charge unless heavy GPS use.

Using amazfit bip. It doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles. You can read texts but not respond. It does alert you to phone calls and allow you to ignore them. It has a great feature for finding your phone.
Miss the ability to reply to text that I had with my pebble 2 and control music, but Bluetooth headphones do that.
The real advantage is battery life and the fact the display is always on. I love that I don't have to flick the watch or touch it to see what time it is! With the heart monitor turned off I average about 2 months between charges!
Plus they cost a little over 50 bucks, so very light on the wallet!
