The super user apk is stored in data so you will lose that if nothing else when you factory reset

Cold Boot/Wipe Data/Factory Reset

Hi,
Can any expert tell me the difference between cold boot/wipe data/factory reset?
I know cold boot clears up the cache and all user data/apps will stay. Root will stay too.
factory reset will erase everything and all user data/apps will be gone. Will root stay?
How about the wipe data in cold boot menu?
Will we lose all user data/apps by choosing wipe data? How about root?
Thanks.

As far as I know Wipe Data in the boot menu and Factory Reset are the same thing. As you say they will delete all user data and apps, leaving only system apps. You will lose root when doing this, but I have read that you can restore with OTA RootKeeper (if you backed it up before doing wipe), since this will be stored in the system part of the drive which doesn't get wiped. So you will need to redownload RootKeeper and restore root. I have not tried this, but from what I have read it seems to be possible.

Scroll down to bottom of page. Good description of cold boot vs reset.

Factory reset will not touch the su binary (/system/bin/su and/or /system/xbin/su), which is what root depends on.
You'll need to reinstall superuser or supersu, but the actual rooting will stick.
Wipe data PROBABLY works exactly the same.
Factory reset is in other words safe for root.

Will a factory reset from CWM remove CWM?

and if so, is there an easy way to restore it?
note: i edited the title just now
Factory reset just deletes your user data apps.
If you want to remove/replace recovery you need to change a kernel.

[Q] Factory Reset wipes root!?!?!

So i rooted my tablet when i had ISC then i updated to the latest firmwares but the question is if i factory reset my tablet will i lose root again? I did this once but i lost root (super user deleted). So i had to down grade and reroot ics and i just updated again but im wondering if the factory reset is basically losing my root or is there an error to prevent this? I want to factory reset my tablet since everytime i update my tab in order for it to run smoothly like other systems. If anyone has an answer please let me know! Sorry if you dont understand my english -_-
Hell-o Niceguy and welcome!
Try cold booting first in order to save your root.
Factory reset will wipe all and place you back at the factory state.
So yes your root will be gone.
Hope I have understood you correctly.
I've never done it myself, but factory reset should not modify the system partition, so it should not be possible to lose the su binary that gives you root access.
Rationale: The system partition is read-only in normal use, and there is no other partition that contains the unmodified factory image of the system partition.
Flashing a complete Asus firmware however overwrites the complete system partition, which *will* kill your root.
Updating the Superuser or SuperSU apps through the Play Store can place them in the data partition instead of system. They would then be lost after a wipe. You could try reinstalling from the Play Store...

Using stock 30b rooted, if I do factory reset, will I lose root?

Currently running 5.0.2 - D80130b stock with root.
If I do a factory reset, will I need to root the phone again?
Thanks a bunch.
Answering my question myself.
I did the reset via Settings menu and the system rebooted to TWRP, and then reset again into the main screen. SU came right up without any issues.
So, the answer is no, you won't lose root if you do factory reset from the settings.
Now, this does NOT delete the internal storage, so do not forget to delete all the pictures/messages/etc. prior to doing the reset (or format the user storage area prior to reset).

NFC won't turn on after root

I decided to root my phone TH7n android 12. But after rooting nfc doesn't work. I do all to set up to work gpay, but not nfc.
Re-flash the Stock ROM.
BTW:
A factory reset only wipes data and cache directory, it doen't even touch the /system partition.
