Ever wanted to launch that fancy Daydream screensaver easier? In your Android 4.2+ device's settings, you are only given the options to launch Daydream while docked or while charging.
Now, there is an easier way simply to launch Daydream, right from your home screen, no matter if you are docked, charging, or neither. Just press the icon, and Daydream will start.
I have heard a few people ask for such a shortcut, so I made this; if you have any suggestions or problems to report, please let me know. Also, this is ad-free and requires no permissions.
Google Play link: http://bit.ly/XuPPmv
Also, if you want the source, I will look into putting that up somewhere, too, but it really is a simple shortcut application.
Last thing: if anybody wants to make the feature and/or promo graphics for the app on Google Play, post them here, and I will probably use them.
I hope this shortcut helps somebody out there!

Thanks for the nice comments, guys.
I know this is no excuse, but I have been really busy. However, I got going this week, and have looked into adding more features.
The popular request seems to be for the daydream to start when the screen becomes idle. Well, I have included that, kind of. Some of the features I have added were hard to do, given the way that daydream was set up by Google. There will be a Daydream Launcher Plus app for 99 cents on Google Play that includes many new features and will help to further my development. Also, the current free app will be getting a minor performance update. I hope you enjoy whichever app you choose to use! And, I love all feedback, good and bad (but constructive ).
Have fun, XDAers!

Would it be possible for this to launch daydream after a while of the phone being idle?

Great suggestion! I will try to work this in there. Should it start when the screen goes to sleep naturally (set in Display Settings) or defined by this app?
Thanks!
Just suggestion, but maybe attach the apk to the original post?

Thanks for the app I was looking for something so I could leave poweramp on and not get image burn in, like a screen saver, which this does -though I notice I have to turn off screen timeout (presuming in all modes one needs to?)
Thanks
Edit: just changed my "car" profile in my profile settings to screen timeout "never", so that I guess easily enough solves it

Hopefully, I'll update it by the end of this week.

I know this is an older post but wanted to point out that modern led screens are very very hard to burn and it would take years n years of a solid non moving image to burn in, long after you would have retired most phones. Have you ever seen an image burned into any phone?

I have the Samsung Captivate with the Super AMOLED screen. Apparently some image burn in can occur, as I set power amp music player screen to not turn off when playing, and after not even that much use (maybe more than i realized), leaving it on in the car sometimes, now when it's a solid screen, such as solid grey, I can lightly see the buttons (play, rewind, fast forward, etc.) burned in, so wanted to avoid further burn in.
Great app
I just try it and can say that is great app. It is be more better if you make that daydream app start when screen in idle. That be perfect. Thanks again for your work.

Shake to Lock/Off Screen is possible (yes, i can consider to add this if it's really highly demanded)..
Shake to Unlock/ON the screen is.....possible too but it will need to keep you device awake all the time(though screen is OFF but no deep sleep)...so it's gonna be big battery eater(so i wont do this)..
C Shaker = It;s nice to maximize the use of motion sensor on droid device

Hi all,
Just got the SW2 today and am excited to use it. Is there a way to wake up the Smartwatch screen without pressing the center key. For example, can the screen turn on hand movement or say by tapping the screen?
I tried to search this in the forum but couldn't find any info.

KS
Hi, since smartwatch firmware is closed and we can use watches only on application basis I am pretty sure it is not possible.
Odesláno z mého GT-N7100 pomocí Tapatalk
Supposedly, the SW2 has an accelerometer but I have yet to see it utilized. I had an original Sony Smartwatch for a short time, and it would turn on with the slightest movement. There was an option of turning it on by rotating your wrist while holding your forearm horizontal, but it was pretty erratic.
It kinda wish that you could set it to turn on the backlight with movement, but it's no more of a problem than hitting the button on my old digital watch to see in the dark.
It does have an accelerometer. If you leave it on the desk to charge it will switch the screen off after a while. It turns back on if you move it.

this freaked me out last night. I was playing a game and my wrist was still as a held the controller. I looked at the time and for like a tenth of a second I thought the screen was blank. Wasn't sure what happened.

At the moment there is no way to wake up the watch by a movement of the wrist as far as I know. However, if you use a custom watch face, (like custom watch for SW2, or clocki) you can wake it up via touchscreen buttons (home button for example).
I do not know if this works for you...
Thanks all for the reply. I could have use custom clock faces but I think it will consume more battery current. Hopefully Sony will make some interesting clock faces with weather integrated.
I have used SmartQ Z watch before. What I like about SW2 is amazing battery life and that I can read contents of email and whatsapp messages on the watch itself. Pretty cool!

Article above, translated into English:
The SmartWatch 2, which came on the market in September 2013 (as reported) , was one of the first truly mature models on the market . However, it lacked some features or there were significant inconsistencies in the operation ( for our review ) . Now, however, a major update in the wings , which is to iron out any weaknesses.
We have long especially on other watches designs, so gennante Watch Faces , waiting . Now there are five of them , which partly show even quite a lot of information . This includes, among other things, the weather and a pedometer , but also the last notification received with content and the next upcoming alarm. Whether the pedometer works in the clock itself, or the information coming from the smartphone itself , we could not exist in Other improvements concern the notification system. The icon for the news has disappeared and the notification bar , which can be drawn down from above as with Android, is now finally scrollable. In addition, you can now on the clock even choose which app icons should be shown in the home screen and from which apps you want to receive notifications . The former is particularly interesting for apps which only provide notifications, but do not have to be started manually. So you get a little more order in the icon list .
Even the design of a lot has changed . The icons of the preinstalled apps , to which now also includes a simple calculator , were easily adapted . Further, it is now finally possible to change the wallpaper of the home screen . In addition , a percentage battery indicator in some of the new Watch Faces .

I wonder how reliable this source is. Especially its claim about it being discussed/shown in MWC, which I haven't seen reported on any of the mobile tech websites such as smartwatchfans and engadget, makes me suspect it's reliability. However, things being described are really nice like the watchfaces with more info including weather etc. It is very exciting nonetheless. Looking forward to such a firmware upgrade. Lets keep fingers crossed.

... if you could swipe left / right on the watch and scroll through your custom watchfaces configurations?
This way you'd have everything in place according to the situation, like having a watchface for sports with counters and music controls, then with one swipe you put your watch in the office configuration with calendar and email, or in navigation mode for riding a motorcycle.
Any takers of such a task?

Thank you for sharing your opinion.
On one side I tend to agree with you - in the end this is just a watch and a single watchface should suffice, provided you can squeeze in all your necessary widgets.
However, due to the recent developments in the custom widgets area I DO feel the need to have more than a single configuration available preferably through a simple gesture.
I wonder if this could be achieved by means of swipe or some sort of navigation widget or even a menu that would allow you to switch between your custom (not built-in) watchface configurations (3 would suffice)

I would rather not turn my hopes to Sony - they did a great job with the updates but they take too long to move or respond to their users, if at all.
Rather than this being a firmware level functionality I thought it more in the terms of a "dynamic" shortcut application that would increment or decrement a slot number based on the swipe direction (left-/right+) and then trigger (after a very short timeout) the built in selector to display the corresponding watchface for the resulting slot #.
Of course, this app would have to run in the background to capture the swipes when the screen is on.
Alternatively, this could be achieved with 2 widgets - left/right - no swipe would then be necessary.

Nobody has hacked the on watch software as far as I know, so it would have to come from hacking the phone watch designer, I guess as you mention via watchface widgets. Asking manu0466 for thoughts would be a good place to start, as he's already hacked the software in some way.

I'm sorry, but you got me wrong - I was talking about an app that would use the new widget capability of the watch, NOT about a hack of any sort.
Maybe someone who understands the limits of the Sony SDK could shed a light on this matter?

So you'd need widgets whose functionality and design can change dynamically.
While possible, I think that would be a complicated way of achieving the objective, considering the interaction with different apps by different developers.
There would have to be a middle layer added in, interacting with a watch face widget on one side and various apps on the other.

Nova Launcher Beta 5.0-beta10
Nova Settings
Gestures and actions
Gestures -> Double Tap = Lock Screen
and unlock screen with fingerprint not before 10/15 sec, i don't know why there is a latence of 10/15 secondes.
When double tapping it asked me if i wanted to give Nova Launcher admin rights, i said no, since if you authorize admin rights you won't be able to use fingerprint for unlocking.
Nova developer Kevin answered to me about this and said that this is a known issue and for the time being there is a work around only for those who are rooted.
So imo it's only a matter of time to get it fixed.
But Kevin is proposing that if we go to Google Play Store and purchase "Screen Lock Pro" we can use it as a work around, i did it and within Nova settings Gestures instead to make "lock screen" action as a result of double tap you ask to launch "Screen Lock Pro", but i wasn't satisfied with the result so i went back to the latence of 10/15 secondes that doesn't annoy me.
But i found that during this 10/15 seconds navigation icons at the bottom of the screen are still visible and if you tap the square one when it is visible you can come back to the unlocked screen, if you wait for the delay of 10/15 secondes you'll have to unlock with the fingerprint which is good.
I don't know if my explanations are clears but using it is very easy, very fast and very safe, good luck.

Huawei G8 or GX8 is an another model phone with Marsmallow 6.0.1 EMUI 4.0

On this model phone, when Double Tap is enable, I can see clock without using Power button.
I just want to do that with Double Tap on Mate 9.
It's unfortunate that EMUI 5 doesn't offer this possibility

I'm using "Nova Launcher Licence" which is called "Nova Launcher Prime" (5,25 €) on Google Play store, does it make the difference, i believe that it should offer more possibilities.
Yeap it does, here under are the description on Google Play for Nova Launcher Prime :
Nova Launcher Prime
Unlock the following extras by purchasing Nova Launcher Prime
• Gestures - Swipe, pinch, double tap and more on the home screen to open your favorite apps
• Unread Counts - Never miss a message. Unread count badges for Hangouts, SMS, Gmail and more using the TeslaUnread plugin
• Custom Drawer Groups - Create new tabs or folders in the app drawer
• Hide Apps - Keep a clean app drawer by hiding never used apps
• Icon Swipes - Set custom actions for swiping on app shortcuts or folders
• More scroll effects - Such as Wipe, Accordion, and Throw
Nova Launcher Prime acts as a license to unlock these features in the free Nova Launcher App. You will need to install Nova Launcher first.

Agreed... but the double tap isn't working on my side to turn the screen on when the phone is off or locked it. Is it working for you? If yes, please provide me how you did that... as it only works to shut the screen off for me.
Thnx!
PS: i have the license (been using Nova for over 2 years now) and also in the Beta.
The launcher can't wake your device from sleep. The double tap actions in Nova are for when you're interacting with the launcher eg. on your home screen.

Agreed... but the double tap isn't working on my side to turn the screen on when the phone is off or locked it. Is it working for you? If yes, please provide me how you did that... as it only works to shut the screen off for me.
Thnx!

No it doesn't work this way and for me it's better like this, allowing turning the screen on with double tap is allowing anybody to access to your mobile, i personaly doesn't find too hard to unlock with fingerprint, even when the mobile is sitting on the desk.

Ok thats what i thought. turning on the screen with double tap on your desk doesn't let people access your phone when locked just let's you input your pin or pattern faster, instead of picking it up. It's really a little detail for comfort on my side as my phone is most of the time in front of me on my desk.
Thanks anyhow.
