Purposes:
There are many alternatives to the ****ty MTP, but most of them lack of good/feature-rich UI, don't have good unicode support or require many clicks on both PC and phone sides to use. So I made my own one.
You can connect your phone (with ADB enabled) to your PC via USB and run the tool to start file transfer just like any other adb-based file transfer tools. And you can enjoy features like bookmark/queue/resume transfer/etc which are provided by the FTP client (WinSCP by default).
How it works:
The tool uploads a modified busybox and runs it as an local FTP server on your phone via ADB, then it uses ADB to forward the FTP ports to PC. The tool starts the FTP client when everything is ready. Transfers all go through USB rather than Wifi. The FTP server is automatically killed if your close the FTP client or disconnect your phone.

hey just trying to get some help finding an sftp client for WM6. I have total commander, but that dosen't support SFTP only FTP. Any free clients out there?
Try putty it's an open source and quite reliable cient for secure shell protocol. It support SSH1, SSH2 and telnet, I have been testing it for a while under linux and it seems to be quite reliable. Here is the link http://www.pocketputty.net/.
have putty. But that logs me into the machine locally. If i run an sftp command that is like trying to get a file from itself. I need to have sftp on client to connect to server and get files. Putty sends nothing but screen output. unless im missing something???
How about zaSFTP?
I was wondering if there was any software for either, home automation or remote desktop connection. I've searched for home automation and can't seem to find a definitive answer. As far as remote pc goes... I want to be able to see and access all the files on my laptop, from my phone.
you could host a ftp server on your laptop
^ would that allow me to access all .doc and .jpeg files... oh and also music files as well... those are the only extentions i'm really interested in accessing.
sorry for the poor post quality, i'm posting from workon my raphael
absolutly, I am using guildFTPd(freeware) to host. However I can't use TotalCommander to see the dir/file structure, I have to use FTPview. There are other free ftp servers as well (FTPShell Server). Just make sure you use strong security, I do get occasional people/bots trying to getting in the server.
There are also applications like RemoteAdmin, PCAnywhere, VNC viewer to take control of your remote machine ... but if all you want is to access files the FTP approach is better performance wise.
is there some sort of LogMeIn hamachi client for WinMo? I know for PC's it puts two computers on the "same network". that might work, if there is...
You could also try running Orb (free) on your laptop if you want to be able to access files remotely. Allows for all media files specifically but also has a built in file browser.
Also allows for streaming video etc (can be great if you've got a TV capture card on your laptop at home and you want to watch TV from a remote location)
dont know anything about home automation, but
take a look here:
http://www.z2software.com/Remote2PC.htm
allows you to control your pc remotely from your phone.
Also, there exists a mobile version of remote desktop connection. Don't know how to get it, though, as it was already cooked into the rom i'm using (PROven ROM 2.4 21018 UNPROTECTED by qsqa) .
You can both remotely control a PC and access file shares with features built into Windows Mobile.
To control a PC
I have successfully used Remote Desktop Mobile on my Fuze (standard ROM) to control my home PC. My home PC is Windows XP Professional (XP Home does not include the RD server). It works great considering the screen size. This solution is much simpler than installing 3rd-party software on both the phone and the PC.
To access files on a PC
I have used File Explorer Menu | Go To | Open Path | New Path to access file shares. I haven't done this a lot but it seems to work fine. Configuring a share is much simpler than installing and configuing an FTP server. BTW, Windows XP Professional includes an FTP server.
To use either of these features you must have an appropriate network path from your phone to the PC. The easiest way is to use your home wireless network. Then you only need to worry about the software firewall on your PC.
If you use the provider's network, you must properly configure all firewalls to allow appropriate ports, and configure your router to port-forward appropriate ports to the PC. You must also either (1) have a static IP for your home network interface, (2) track your dynamic IP address as it changes, or (3) use a service that maps a host name to your dynamic IP and automatically tracks changes. It might be easier just to store files on a web site, then you don't need to even keep the PC turned on.
Hey there!
So I switched my server from linux over to windows (hdmi audio driver issues with ion2, don't ask) and can no longer use Rsync to sync files (unless of course you know of a way to do this in windows)
I am looking for a tool that allows for LAN syncing of files on my Windows desktop to my android device. I know there are tons (box.net, Mozy, SugarSync, etc) that do this however they push files to the cloud. I do not want this. I want a simple LAN sync tool, any personal faves are welcomed!
Thanks in advance!
I'm using freeFTPd as my daemon on the windows box and andFTP as my client on the device. This is the closest I can get to rsync and I think it's the best possible solution right now.
I like rsync for android:
https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.kowalczuk.rsync4android&feature=search_result
It would require opensshd on your windows box. You can get that at:
http://sshwindows.sourceforge.net/
There's a thread on it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871307&highlight=rsync
rsync over ssh does not require the rsync daemon, so you should be good to go there, though cygwin does provide rsync if you just had to have it on the windows side.
Also, linux to windows? eww.
I'm using TeamViewer QuickSupport on my two Samsung devices, but it seems to need a device-specific add-in to work on other devices.
The device in question is a CubieTruck as in http://tinyurl.com/mjzejs4.
Actually the TeamViewer product almost works. Connects to the device, gives stats about the device, allows file transfers... but when it comes time to connect to the desktop it mis-interprets the device's "OK" to "Refused".
Does anybody know of another product that allows a Windows session to connect to an Android desktop?
Seems like there are plenty of products that go the other way... but Windows ==> Android?
There's a really cool light-weight tool that was developed by ROM1V to provide display and control of Android devices connected on USB. It does not require root access and does not require an application to be installed on the device! It works on GNU/Linux, Windows and MacOS.
It runs via ADB reverse.
I haven't seen anyone share this yet, so... here goes. Full credit to the author of this tool, ROM1V.
I've used this on both Linux and Windows variants. Both work quite well! There's a pre-built Windows package with all dependencies within the README. My experience is that Linux runs very smoothly, but the Windows variant is a little buggy.
Here is the link to the Github
(Sorry, I'm still *somewhat* of a new member and can't yet post external links... [been reading for years; posting... no so much]. I apologize, but you'll have to assemble this link a bit). Perhaps an admin might clean this up a bit.

This tool is GREAT!!! Mirrors your android screen on laptop over reverse ADB and without root and without installing anything on the device.
I used it on mobile which had its display totally non-functional but touch was working. Fortunately, ADB was enabled. All I had to do was unzip scrcpy files from https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy and refer to the FAQ at https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy/blob/master/FAQ.md. I could recover all my data from the device and even use the device seeing it screen and controlling it from my laptop.
But obviously, use cases go much beyond that and this is a full fledged screen copying tool. If you use your android while at your desk and keep it connected to your laptop then this gives the comfort of using your keyboard for typing long messages as well. Videos also play smoothly on computer screen but voice comes from mobile speakers (...if there was a way to route that to the laptop speakers, that'll be great and make it almost like an HDMI connection to a laptop over USB!).
Great job done, developers @ https://www.genymobile.com/ :good::good::good::good::good:

I agree.
And, in Android 12, there's no need to establish the initial connection over USB.
Android 12 has the Wi-Fi debugging option in Developer options!
