[APP] [4.2+] Zero Dot - a messenger-like app for 0.facebook - Android Apps and Games

Note: not every country and network company support 0.Facebook
Zero Dot is an app created by Panos Dentsas, a Greek android developer, to help people that use zero facebook (0.facebook.com) get the most out of it.
Zero Dot adds new features to the standard free facebook service and it works similar to Facebook messenger but without any data or wifi connection! That means that you get notifications which include the other user's name, the time the message was sent and of course the message itself along with sound notifications when new messages arrive, immediately without having to take your phone out of your pocket to check for any possibly new messages every once in a while.
The app is still in BETA stage, that means its possible to encounter some bugs and some features may not be available yet.

Feature request (Android 3.0 Gingerbread)

Dear XDA users!
Lots of Russian Android users are very disappointed with the fact that Android OS takes a lot of traffic (that causes extra fees and personal data insecurity). Many people decided not to buy Android-based devices because of that. So, we decided to post an issue to Google, Inc. and OHA and asked about the abitily to let or not let the apps use Internet - such points as "Allow", "Allow once", "Deny" or something like that. The issue URL is http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=10481
If you also want this feature to be developed, just star the issue (click the star near the header). If you want to say something, you may post a comment (try not to post comments like "Agree", "+1", etc.). Be ready to receive other people's comments to your e-mail. To stop receiving, go to https://code.google.com/hosting/settings and uncheck "If I starred the issue".
Note that you must sign in to your Google account to vote!
Thanks for your voices!

I can trust to Google But i can't trust other developers.
Well, sometimes Google is not worth trusting, too.

Slick
Slick is a Free messenger application for android phones.
It allows you to chat with your friends connected though
various online messaging applications.
Currently it is still in development, an alpha version

Supported devices:
Android version 1.5 and newer
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick&page=download&platform=android
I am currently beta testing tirllian but I might give this a go too. Three questions first though:
1) does it support myspace chat
2) could you give me more info on the message history feature
3) how are users displayed (e.g. does it display their actual account username or does since some networks support changing the display name does it show what ever the end user has chosen as a display name, does it show their contact pic/avatar)

WHY USE WHATSAPP:
★ NO HIDDEN COST: Once you and your friends download the application, you can use it to chat as much as you want. Send a million messages a day to your friends for free! WhatsApp uses your Internet connection: 3G/EDGE or Wi-Fi when available.

★ NO NEED TO ADD BUDDIES: Your Address Book is used to automatically connect you with your contacts. Your contacts who already have WhatsApp Messenger will be automatically displayed under Favorites, similar to a buddy list. (You can of course always edit Favorites any way you like)
★ OFFLINE MESSAGES: Even if you miss your push notifications or turn off your phone, WhatsApp will save your messages offline until you retrieve them during the next application use.
★ AND MUCH MORE: Share location, Exchange contacts, Custom wallpaper, Custom notification sounds, Landscape mode, Precise message time stamps, Email chat history, Broadcast messages and MMS to many contacts at once and much much more!

ehm.. I appreciate your effort to copy and paste, but I think that literally 100% of the people on xda knows this app.. it's basically on every "top android apps" list.
Also, you could have easily posted the link to the android market, especially since the latest version is 2.8.1504 (you are posting 2.7)

WhatsApp - if only

WhatsApp is quite a neat application for messaging, but I have a few issues with it
* It's tied to a mobile number. If I swap SIMs (depending on network coverage etc) it no longer works properly
* There is no web interface to access the messages
* There is no supported tablet application
* Many users in my contact list have used whatsapp at one point, but are no longer current users. I'd like to filter to something like "online in last 10 minutes" or similar otherwise I have little confidence they'll see my message
I actually find facebook messenger, twitter DMs and potentially apps like kik, viber, chaton work better as they don't have this dependence.
Comments? What apps do others prefer more? Any news on any of the above being remedied?
Note - I'm not bothered by any ££ if the app works.

1-so...?
2-yes there is.
3-if tablet has no mobile data connection, I.e. No sim, what's the point of having whatsapp on it.
4-it does tell you when they were last online. And if they're on the whatsapp contact list, they still have whatsapp installed, so they will get the message.

1) Also your sms and phone calls depends on mobile number...
2) Its a mobile app only, perhaps they intend it to stay that way (But there are several proyects that connect you from web or pc)
3) (Usually) a tablet does not have a phone number.
4) You have the last connected under the contact's name, so, if my contact hasn't been online since May, it is almost certain he/she wont get the message.
Whatsapp was born to be an blackberry messenger alternative, aimed at the same target but multiplatform, facebook chat, twitter, etc where born as web services, with mobile apps launched later. Viber, Line, etc. Where born to include all those things you ask on top of whatsapp.
EDIT: Acording to this post (in spanish) http://www.taringa.net/posts/linux/16989423/Whatsapp-via-Pidgin-en-Archlinux-y-derivados.html
It is possible to integrate whatsapp with pidgin, so you can chat on whatsapp via linux

viber and chaton do use the phone number

S7 Stock Contacts Notes text limit

HELP just jumped back to Samsung after a decade away.
The Contacts NOTES 1000 character limit is killing me.
I have 5000+ and 20 years of contact info stored away and the App is deleting all character above 1000 when a contact is edited.
This then syncs to my google and outlook databases causing havoc and destruction.
I absolutely must edit from the phone in real time to keep the data fresh.
Any suggestions or ideas?? Any replacement app or workaround suggested??
I have had HTC-8, Asus, Motorola V3 in the intervening years in all cases the stock contacts list did not have this limit.
I expect I would need up to 4000 or 5000 Chr to keep the current data I have though in 90% of cases it is just 10-20 words only in that field.
Found replacement app
I am still a bit confused at the difference between Phone and Contacts App on S7 but found that it is possible to add other dialer contact options. Ready Contacts and Dialer App can directly replace both phone and Contacts App- can be set as default and does not Trim long text notes in the contact.
The free app is OK you need to spend a few bucks to get T9 DIALING. While doing this is replaced the sms app with Googles Messenger and the TouchWiz with Google Now launcher and have a much more user friendly interface.
Several sites claim that it is possible to install Google stand alone dialer but my playstore says it is not compatible with my Android v6.0.1 phone firmware
It is extremely frustrating to permanently lose data from contacts without warning.
Currently using:
Ready Contacts + Dialer
Ready Communication
I thought this had fixed the issue as all notes were visible. However on EDIT the problem returned.
I am trialing now another addon app:
Contact Editor Free
Marten Gajda
This weird program jumps in when the edit button is pushed and seems to take care of the problem.
Kind of scary.
This is a very frustrating issue. It is very hard to believe that this "flagship" device has a bug like this after so many years. It is very easy to go over 1000 Character when updating information in contacts.
Would appreciate any other users feedback on solutions that have worked for them
