I just wondered as a new Honor user wether root without unlocking the bootloader was possible, or if anyone is looking into to it at all?
Perhaps dirtycow or other ways?

I think that this is not currently possible. But the return of the original factory state is not a problem, see this topic here & here.

u should unlock but don't warry almost 90% of country's unlocking will not void warranty for huawei policies
Warranty issues and letting HW know that I've unlocked the bootloader.
Coming from Sony's previously you would lose DRM info for the camera and screen and audio tech if you unlocked without saving a TA partition.
Asume thats not the same with HW and its only a matter of them refusing to support you if you unlock?

when u go th unlocking website . they noted every thing regarding unlocking bootloader . so don't it will be up to you after u read to proceed or not !.

Pretty sure he knows that. That is why we're interested in rooting the phone WITHOUT unlocking it...

Hello guys,
I have read thru somethreads outside of our phone's forum, and found some people restoring TA's from phones that allow bootloader unlocking, and was thinking if it's safe to do the same with our XL.
I understand there are certain modifications that have to be done.

I must have expressed myself wrong.
I have my TA backup, but i have not unlocked my bootloader, because my unlocking status is NOT ALLOWED, yet my question is, if I can use a TA backup from another phone that has a bootloader unlock allowed: YES, so I can transfer this status to my device, therefor allowing me to unlock my bootloader.

As far as I know its not possible to unlock your bootloader if unlocking is not allowed.
But you might want to take a look here. It's CWM for locked bootloaders.
If you really want to unlock you should consider selling your phone and buying a Xperia L where's unlocking allowed (mostly sim lock free phones)
There might be a risk of hard bricking of your phone if you restore someone else's TA backup

Don't try messing with TA backup or you will end up bricking the device and i am talking about hardbrick. If you restore someone else TA backup your mobile won't boot up and you won't be able to flash FTF again.

For your device it is not allowed, so you can't unlock the bootloader.
/I've read some threads about trying to unlock the bl although service says "no" on other Devices like z Ultra:
It's not impossible to unlock the bl with official method if you know your device earlier had status allowed "yes".

its necessity if you want an aosp rom .....
Stock basted Roms on most Sony devices are pretty fast and solid in my opinion no need to really unlock unless your desperate for cm
So that's it? If the bootloader can't be unlocked officially, I'm stuck on Sony roms forever?
Wouldn't bother me so much but my Z3 has a horrible bug where it doesn't work with the bluetooth in my car without rebooting first every time. Was hoping to install CM12.
Could be a hardware fault the Bluetooth

It's not that I have any major issues with Sony roms, I'd just like to be able to flash other stuff in the future, should I want to.
I'm still going to keep the Z3, such a nice phone, nothing else really comes close to it for me yet. Maybe the M9, but I just got the Z3 for £260 from o2 and had it network unlocked, probably have been looking at least double that for the HTC.
You can still root the device and customize it. Tools like the XPosed framework are great at modifying specific parts of the ROM.
But to confirm: you're stuck. You can't unlock Sony's unlockable bootloader. I've heard of people trying to unlock it, I've never heard of a successful case.
Enjoy the phone, it's among the best available right now (imho).
Just got the D6633 dual Sim for my wife. I use Nexus devices exclusively but since Sony offers bootloader unlocking I decided to get this phone instead of a Nexus for her.
My question is, should I go through the steps to actually get the bootloader unlock code for future use. I don't plan on unlocking the bootloader just yet but I worry that in the future the service might be discontinued and I'll never get a code from Sony.
It's still under warranty and I'd like to keep it that way so I guess the real question is, is getting the code what voids the warranty or actually preforming the unlock that does it? Is there a counter or some type of a flag in the device that is set permanently or can the bootloader be locked back again like any Nexus device?

Keep the code if you want.
That is one of the reasons I prefer SONY devices, besides the specs and build quality. No stuff like tripping KNOX fuse or getting S-OFF to make an HTC a Google Play Edition for example.

OK, but if there is no tripped flag, how do they know I didn't use the code? I guess you didn't understand my initial question. I can understands the code doesn't expire, but doesn't the act of getting the code voids warranty?

You trigger something on their servers, it's all about the IMEI and Serial Number.
Even if you relock the bootloader, they will still know it was unlocked, I for example relocked the bootloader the official way, via SONY website, and got the code in my email.
Not quite. Warrenty is coded when you unlock the boot, nor when you ask for the code.
You can get the code and keep it forever.
Officially there is no way to re lock the bootloader anyway.
However, if you root first, backup the TA patition them unlock the boot, you can restore the TA partition to re lock and don't will not know.

True, it is a good idea to backup the TA partion, I myself didn't do it, but it is a good advice.
OK, so I'm gathering that there is a way to root and install recovery without unlocking the bootloader. If that's the case, why would anyone need to open the bootloader?
Also, I'm still not clear on my initial question. Do I loose warranty as soon as I get the unlock code from Sony or does the act of unlocking what voids it.

Only when you unlock you lose warranty. But you can backup the TA partition, and relock later, if you want.
With an unlock bootloader you can root Lollipop easy, with a lock bootloader, there are a few steps, like downgrading, for example.
And many more stuff you can do, with an unlocked bootloader, flash custom ROM's...mods, tweaks, etc.

If you restore your TA partition, yeah, you can claim warranty.
Just as mentioned above. I dont mind waiting but just wanna ask is there anybody able to get it already? I've done some google, some pages offer a very 'detailed' instructions like just install TWRP using fastboot method then flash the SuperSU binary then bingo!! Some others state unlocking BL is required. Since to me xda is the only reliable source so I guess I will be looking for answers here.

Well... DRM keys thing is what i concern. AFAIK im gonna have to give up some features if i lose it so...
Btw it'd be appreciated if u could share some posts about re-locking bootloader and backing up/restoring DRM keys, especially for this new Xperia XZ.

I've been waiting for over 3mths for some progress on backing up the ta keys on all the x range(I have the xa) I don't see it ever happening to be honest and I've made the mistake of loosing ta keys before I won't be doing it again.

I've got my XZ since one week now, and I'm missing the possibilities of rooting my device.
My Z2 was LB, so I never could ever try to unlock my bootloader. therefore, I don't know anything about it.
I've read a lot of thread here and there, and some points are not that clear to me.
Will the procedure of unlocking the bootloader erase everything in the phone (like photos, contacts, etc...)?
Unlocking the bootloader will kill the DRM keys forever, if I understood well. but flashing Androplus Kernel will recover them, right?
Is it possible to relock the booltloader after? if yes, will the DRM keys be restored?
Last thing, to be sure of what I should do.
1-unlock the bootloader with IMEI via sony site.
2-install TWRP via adb command
3-flash Androplus kernel.
Am I right, or do I miss something?

Hey sensei_sai,
Im unsure if unlocking will erase your data but its always best to backup everything in the internal memory just in case something goes wrong.
Androplus will NOT recover your DRM keys but kernels with DRM fixes try to replicate the features that are permanently lost as a result of unlocking your boot-loader.
In the future it may be possible for you to re-lock the boot-loader but even then this wont restore DRM keys, the only way to restore DRM keys would be to back up your TA partition (This contains your DRM keys) before you unlock your boot-loader but to do this you need root access with your boot-loader still locked.

Too bad for the TA partition.
So we have two possibilities. Take the risk of loose some features forever, but benefit of the root or wait till someone make some magic to use an exploit to obtain root without unlocking the bootloader.
Risk and go... Or wait and safe... Dilemma...

I think that the era of DRM lock is over, we've been using DRM fixes for all the latest xperia phones, the dirty cow is a bad exploit and it's more dangerous than useful.
I was unsure about unlocking the bootloader but now that I did it, I rooted and I regret nothing, the only downside of unlocking is the warranty loss, but who cares as long as the phone doesn't magically explode.
