Hi , i have mtcb unit , when i do a call , i can't hide button end call or go back to home.
if have any way to hide the dialer button when i do call? and go home or other app?
I think it would require modification of the application. It annoys me as well, to no end. Basically turns the thing into a brick until your phone call is over.
Same on MTCD. Think it is because Android doesn't actually provide HFP, so I'm assuming it is some sort of hardware interface provided by the MCU.
Anybody aware if the C200/C500 has this same issue? As said above, it is really annoying.

As of Android 5.0 (or was it 5.1?) Android *DOES INDEED* provide HFP-client mode.
What Android does NOT provide, however, is a UI for it.

N1 suffers from one simple but debilitating hardware limitations - lack of hardware buttons.
Since trackball clicking is rarely used, it would be nice to assign a different function to it.
The first function coming to mind has to do with the fact that the device is a phone -
make trackball into a "Send" button.
This is what it should do:
1) whenever not in the dialer app, clicking trackball should bring up/start the dialer.
2) when in the dialer app, and a phone number was entered, clicking trackball should dial the number.
3) when there's an incoming call, clicking the trackball should answer the call.
I know some people with arthritis who would kill for such an app.
Thanks.
If such an app. were to be created, how about the case where the foreground process requires the use of the trackball click? Then every time you clicked it, the phone dialer would load.
I also don't personally thing the Android APIs would allow such a global hook (w/o root), but I'm not the best dev. out there so I'll let the more experienced respond to that one.

Well, that's the whole point.
You mean like a game? So far, games might be the only programs where you HAVE to use trackball for functionality.
I think all other programs allow touch screen input in place of the trackball.
Since I never use the trackball for anything, and I've seen a number of comments with the same sentiment (ie "trackball is useless"), I'd gladly trade the entire trackball function (including moving the cursor with the ball) for the ability to have a hardware "send" button.
I'll personally pay 50 dollars to a man/woman who can make this work. Then they can collect the money from thousands of market goers who'd would prefer a useful hardware button over a useless one.
Just a small bump.
why is this in the development section?
/sarcasm
jesus people your right stuff like this should be posted next to / under/ above threads like Cyanogen and Amon_RA
And how would you handle the movement of the ball when it rolls? I find when in recovery, it doesn't take much for the trackball movement to register and overshoot the options I am aiming for if not careful. Obviously a sensitivity setting would be the recourse for such a dilemma but still...or were you thinking that anything beyond buttonOn (false function obviously) is ignored?
Technically you could go as far as to have the tracball pressed trigger the dialer. From there you can scroll to call log, contacts, favourites using the trackball and then scroll down if you so desire.
I do find it odd that the phone has this hardware button and rarely is it actually used.
I think being able to touch the trackball and force the phone out of sleep is a sound expectation for this phone...the fact it isn't there is odd.
just get a sense or blur rom, that fixes everything

hahaha...
in other news, plenty of people have no interest in senseUI
One more bump.
Someone should really write this program.
Using the trackball to bring the phone in and out of sleep would drain your battery. That trackball is way to easily pressed (ie in your pocket) to be of any use as that function, but I would love the phone/send function. Would be wonderful as I hate having a phone shortcut on my homescreen.
Would be willing to pay or donate as well.

Thank you. One of very few people who seem to understand this problem.
Anyway, the community's reluctance to implement this feature is a seeming indication of difficulty to do it. Maybe Android OS isn't that flexible; or maybe it's just too new, so people haven't really learned yet how to do things with it.
After all, the Win Mobile OS has been around for ages, and sure enough, as soon my Sprint Touch Pro2 was released, I had an app to rebind all the keys to whatever function I wanted.
Perhaps, in the future, we will see an Android app like the one I want. But, to my greatest disappointment, it may be years...
bump bump bump
I'll bump it one more time.
Any progress with this feature?
Another month has passed...
Has any developer figured out if it'd even be possible to make an app like that?
Thanks.
Folks,
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Running stock 4.4.2, rooted, Franco Kernel, w/ Xposed ( GravityBox ) and Tasker
Has anyone else had problems with a single button wired headset intermittently launching a classic looking voice dialer versus the new voice search stuff when using the headset's button?
I basically have a Tasker profile that unlocks and wakes my phone after I plug in my headset. This all works fine.
Problem is, when trying to actually use the headset to call someone, this classic looking (and I say that because it's a black background with white text, nothing fancy) voice dialer comes up but no matter what, can not make out what I am asking it to do.
If I hit the back button and try the headset button again, it will then sometimes go to the new voice search and work completely as expected. Not every time. Sometimes the classic dialer wants to hang around for 2 or 3 attempts.
Anyone seen this before? I was hoping to find a way to just disable this 'classic' voice dialer because I'm essentially trying to have my phone be more hands free if the headset is plugged in and know the new voice search works just fine.
Thanks,

Could you try starting your device in safe mode and not running any apps you've installed to test if one of them is causing the problem? If you don't experience the problem while in safe mode that's a good indication that an app you've installed is the source of your issue.
I'd appreciate it if you could let me know how your safe mode test went after you get a chance to give it a try.

Joannn,
Thanks for the thoughts.
I tested safe mode and the classic voice dialer does not come up at all so it definitely has to be some sort of app or weird way my system is calling something when using the headset in normal mode.
I tried the following with no success in normal mode:
1) Disabled Xposed and all modules - rebooted - no change
2) Disabled tasker and tested with just plugging in the headset and testing the button - no change
3) Switched from Nova launcher back to stock launcher - no change
4) Uninstalled a headset button control app - no change
So, I'm not sure why the phone randomly thinks this old dialer is the correct one to launch, nor do I have any idea where it is coming from. It doesn't appear to be a separate app and even when I look through the system apks, I see nothing that looks like it references this classic voice dialer. Not sure what's triggering it.

instead of looking in your app drawer, since apps dont always get put there, open the phones main settings, apps, and look there.

I've got to assume it's something related to Tasker or the Secure Settings plugin for it. I uninstalled every single app I could think of that may have had the ability to make any calls of any nature, and in Settings>Apps I don't see the Voice Dialler at all, even before I started uninstalling things.
Without Tasker being used, I haven't seen the bad dialer come back again.
Was really only using tasker to get around the fact that the headset button is ignored if the phone is pin locked. Guess I'll try and find another way around it.
Thanks for your help,
bambam2k3
Okay, I'm going to take that back.
It's got to be stock somehow. I read some other posts and a quick google image search shows other people with the same dialer, especially when using bluetooth headsets from the lockscreen. I've pretty much removed everything from my phone aside from the stock apps. In the varying posts I've seen, the spelling is incorrect in 50% of them, and I don't know maybe if that has something to do with the language settings of the phone.
I also tested a bluetooth headset that had never been paired with my phone before and when the phone is locked, I get the odd dialer, when it's unlocked, I get the proper google voice search.
My next step would be to completely wipe and reinstall. But, I think I'm going to keep trying to figure this out before going to that length.

the spelling incorrect is not google. and if it was google, it would be spelled incorrect for all, not 50% of the people. the next question is do you have a mod for your lockscreen? whatever it is, it is not googles app that you screenshoted. and you wrote that in safemode, it didnt appear. which also indicates that its a 3rd party app.

Simms,
Figured out the 'spelling mistake'. Since I'm Canadian, I was running my phone in English (UK) versus English (US). When I changed it back to English (US), now Dialer is spelled correctly.
As for lockscreen mods, I do have GravityBox running with some Lockscreen tweaks, but in my previous testing, I totally shutdown Xposed. That's all I've got. Had the same problem with it totally disabled.
Just came across this post on Android Police with a lot of comments with the exact same problem I'm having. Seems even with using Tasker and Secure Settings to disable Pin lock, turn off keyguard, wake the device and take it to the homescreen, the phone still thinks the screen is 'off' and brings up the old dialer.

so it seams then that you either need to update your google search or you are using a samsung device and not a nexus 5.
In touchwiz, during a call, there is a drop-down notification item that allows you to handle some call functions such as ending, muting, or returning to the call screen. This was very functional for work as I am often away from the call screen during a call, and also need to quickly mute as well.
Our default dialer (not even sure it's the dialer that handles this functionality), allows for hanging up and returning to the call screen from the menu, but not muting. Anyone know if there's a way to add this? I tried finding a screenshot of how this is done in touchwiz, but couldn't.
Thanks in advance!
I'm struggling with whether to sell this phone, or the Note 3. This functionality would tilt the scale towards the OPO.

This phone simply doesn't have that functionality. There's the possiblity that there's an Xposed module that might do it, but considering that Xposed isn't compatible with Lollipop that's probably irrelevant.
Just wanted to bump this as we have a new version of Cynogen. Still a pertinent question for me.
...and other times I just get a "beep" where I can say Call John. I'd prefer one or the other - more specifically the latter. Can anyone shine a light on this? I am thinking that it has something to do with Swype/Dragon vs. Google's version, but how can I disable one and still keep the other features?
If anyone knows, thanks in advance!! Been bugging me for a long time....
Sorry to ask again, but can anyone confirm this issue or even better, make a suggestion on how to fix it? The only thing I didn't mention in the original post was that I'm using a wired headset where I push and hold the button on it.

I can confirm that something has been recently "pushed" down to our phones. I used to get "Say Call, followed by name or number" when using a long-press on a BT headset(plantronics). I now simply get the beep.
Also, it now seems to be a *requirement* for google to have your contacts, as it now tells me "Sure, but when its safe, please unlock your phone and enable device information" when I try to make a call. Bummer. I liked the local "lookup" mode and really don't want all my phone numbers linked to my google account. I tried downgrading "google play services", but it goes to the factory version which is way too old... it seems more difficult if you just want to go back a few months, not to the original version installed on your phone.
My phone kept "falling asleep" for what seemed to be at random times when using the phone. I finally determined it was because of the one-handed mode. When I drag from the side, to the middle, which is supposed to activate the mode, it turns off the phone display off as if I pressed the button to do that, or double tapped it (which I have activated) - is anyone else experiencing this??
The other issue I have is that I recall having the open to pull the notification area down, and along with the brightness, it showed the volume too. I know that you are "supposed to" go to where the pen icon is to edit....but when I press on the three dots, the only option is brightness, so it's not even as if I have the option to enable that, even if I wanted to!
Thoughts? Is there a developer option I need to enable?
PS: I beg that you don't ask me for phone specifics if you're not sure that it would resolve the issue. I have no issue sharing that information with anyone. But if you don't know if Oreo, for example, is the cause...I'd rather not try to locate information that may never be used to troubleshooting, which would waste both of our times.
1: it should not turn off. Are you on an aftermarket display?
2: probably software issue. Did you flash update or OTA install?

Hi, thank you for the reply.
No I am not on an aftermarket display. I purchased this through Verizon.
Along those lines, all updates have been through the automated process built into the phone.
I agree that it appears to be software, or at least software that may have been installed. Is there a way to search by install date on my device? I may have to reverse engineer what application was installed when this happened (maybe about two months ago, probably less) - my only concern is I may uninstall that software but whatever change was made remains. Wondering if there is a "rollback" feature on the phone where I can just put it back to a certain point in time.

I would say the easiest is just to use lg UP to flash a slightly earlier version. I can't tell too much and I don't think an app being installed/uninstalled would matter.
