bought note edge. it says 915F in "about device" but says 915P in download mode
hi i bought a note edge believing it is international but it is sprint based when i brought it home and checked through download mode. i believe the seller has installed some kind of custom firmware on it (career phones, although unlocked, are not sold well so shops here sometimes change the firmware which shows an international model number). i have no problems with sprint and id rather have the original sprint firmware on it than a fake one.
what i want to know is would doing that simlock my phone?
also, if it is a sprint phone what are the chances of it getting marshmallow?
or should i return the phone?
i m afraid that your phone is converted.
i have seen so many s5, note3, s4, s3 and now note edge converted from logo to no logo (international model)
its better if you can return it. you will never get any update on such phones
thanks. is not getting updates (and by that i hope you mean just OTA) the worst of it? will going back to a sprint firmware carrier lock it?
ok i installed a stock sprint firmware and now my phone is working alright. thanks

So my cousin bought me a note 5 Verizon model from U.S , the thing is I think I get "software update is temporary unavailable"issue. a quick google concluded that I need a Verizon sim to get OTA updates . I was wondering is there any way I could update it without a Verizon sim , since I could no way get a Verizon sim in the U.K
Thanks

Take your current sim out and try Samsung Smartswitch. Download the one for the PC or Mac and give it a try. If that doesn't work manually update with Odin using these files. You might be out of luck for the monthly security patches but it's not a huge deal as far as I'm concerned.

I have VZW note5 and i'm out of USA, using other carrier.
Connect the Note5 to pc
from MyComputer install Verizon Wireless Software Assistance.
After install successful, you can upgrade it from there
Ok, so my question ha a few points here. I have been flashing roms for many years but never really though of this until recently as I now have an unlocked phone.
1. As my Sprint Note 5 is unlocked, can I flash say the Unlocked Version of software to the phone taking away carrier branding? I manage a store from another carrier and I hate that when I boot my phone it shows Sprint. I know it will not trip knox as long as it is Official Stock software.
2. If I do flash said Unlocked version software replacing Sprint software, will it change my connection at all? I have seen that flashing ATT software on a Verizon device did manage to improve ATT tower connection however I wonder if this is maybe a placebo effect as opposed to actually changing the bands and connections the device makes.
If you guys could help me out that would be great. :good:
Cheers
There is no unbranded firmware for the Sprint model because well, it is a exclusive model so even if you flash XAS instead of SPR firmware some or all apps will still appear. The only way to get rid of everything Sprint is via custom ROM= tripped KNOX. The SM-N920P cannot run another firmware.
I am wanting to start using Republic Wireless and idiot me purchased an unlocked verizon s6...I put my sim card in my device today and it says my model isnt compatible. I was shocked (should have done my research). It is saying it must be the Samsung-SM-G920T model for it to be compatible with their network. I could have sworn the verizon model I purchased was unlocked so I am confused. Is there anyway I can root the phone and somehow make it appear as being the G920T model instead of my SM-G920V model ?
Upgraded to Note 9, want to pass my Note 8 on to a T-Mobile user. I want a complete T-Mobile experience, so all T-Mobile bloat and settings are needed (VoLTE, Hotspot, etc...) . Note 8 currently has latest CRID OTA from ATT. Looking for help in determining the correct way to proceed. I am having AT&T carrier unlock the device, so I would make this change after confirmed unlock. Also, once this is finished, will the device receive T-Mobile OTA updates?
I have read through https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884 but am confused. I see lots of mention of combination files, CSC changing, etc... that seem overkill for what i'm looking for.
Are these the steps I need to take?
1) Download latest Odin compatible TMB Firmware (which is what version?)
2) Download Odin on PC
3) Factory reset Note 8
4) Flash TMB firmware
5) Insert TMB SIM card
6) Success?
Yes just download this file
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note8/SM-N950U/TMB/download/N950USQU5CRIA/237765/
Flash everything with Odin and you will have a full 100% T-Mobile Note8 with all carrier features working

I saw here that simply flashing a different carrier firmware will not actually change carriers?? Is that correct?

Someone in that thread said I would need to flash an unlocked U1 firmware and then the TMB firmware?
I am about to do this as well, switching from AT&T to T Mobile using my AT&T branded Note 8. I just wanted to confirm that it's as simple as downloading the latest Android Pie firmware for T Mobile and flash it to the AT&T branded phone? Any precaution like some other thread mentioned to flash the U1 (unlocked) firmware first then flash the T Mobile firmware?
Also, eventually, I will be giving this Note 8 to someone in China. At that point, is it better to flash the unlocked version of firmware or just leave the T Mobile firmware on it?
Thanks so much for your help.
Note: the phone is already unlocked.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I went and got T Mobile. After the new SIM card was inserted in my AT&T Note 8, after a reboot, it did something, a screen with a SIM car graphics and some moving dot. Then it rebooted itself again, and then T Mobile splash screen showed up. It even added the bloatware from T Mobile. So, Android 9 for Note 8 probably has both ROMs? I also checked the firmware version. It shows the latest T Mobile ROM.
I didn't have to do anything other than just inserting the new SIM card from T Mobile.
This is very interesting to me, and the store guy couldn't believe his eyes either.

And i was wondering why my phone still showing at&t bloatware even after installing the Verizon firmware. ? Now i understand Cuz I'm using at&t sim. Good to know?
Another update!
I just got updated by T-Mobile to the latest firmware after converting over as previously stated. I have to say that the update page on the phone for the T-Mobile firmware is MUCH nicer and informative than the ATT version. It tells you how much time left, the version numbers, and even a "what's new" section...
After this update, my phone is actually better at battery usage.
