TWRP not working - Sony Xperia XA Questions & Answers

After i flash boot.img at the fastboot screen it says:
USB Transfering
USB Transmission OK Time:533ms Vel:24414kb/s
but when i flash recovery.img it shows the same thing as when i flashed boot.img and it says successful in the command prompt but nothing happens on my phone when i re-enter fastboot screen it doesnt load into twrp recovery
any help would be greatly appreciated
Edit: after fiddling around with the commands i managed to flash twrp.img but when using the command "fastboot boot twrp.img"

I never said to enter "fastboot boot", try with "fastboot flash" and the result will be better Please read and read again before saying that TWRP is not working.

[Q][A510] A510 totally bricked. Help!

Yesterday I left my A510 in stand-by with its AOKP kitkat rom running (it runs smooth since many weeks).
This morning the tablet was bricked.
When I turn it on, it reports "boot failed" and starts the fastboot download protocol.
I cannot enter CWM recovery anymore.
I have tried to fastboot a CWM recovery with "fastboot boot recovery_nothrills.img" but it gets stuck; I tried to boot the stock recovery with "fastboot boot recovery_1_044_00.img" but it freezes.
I have tried to flash these recoveries with "fastboot flash recovery recovery_nothrills.img" but it fails:
Code:
# fastboot flash recovery recovery_nothrills.img
sending 'recovery' (5968 KB)...
FAILED (remote: (AccessDenied))
finished. total time: 0.016s
I run these program as root under linux, therefore I thinks it's not a driver/permissions problem.
I have no idea of what else try.
Is there a recovery program as the one for the A500, running under XP?
Thanks.

[Q] OnePlus One - Unable to unlock bootloader again after relocking

Hi Guys,
Hope to get some help here.
So i unlocked the bootloader of my one plus one and installed supersu + Twrp recovery. All worked fine until i decided to relock the bootloader.
I've put the device into fastboot mode and executed "fastboot oem lock" with twrp recovery still in there.
Now i am trying to unlock the bootloader again using "fastboot oem unlock" to be able to flash the stock recovery and having issues.
output of commands:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot oem unlock
...
OKAY [ 0.004s]
finished. total time: 0.005s
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>
After this it boots straight to twrp recovery. I then hit reboot system and go back to fastboot mode and run the below:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash recovery recovery
.img
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (12260 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.389s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: Device not unlocked cannot flash or erase)
finished. total time: 0.404s
Anyone has an idea how i can unlock the bootloader again ?
Thanks
Vik
Would it let you reflash the stock factory image thru fastboot? Maybe if you could do that it would let you unlock again. And it would give you stock recovery.
Or else what about the option in developer settings to update the stock cm recovery when installing an update. Maybe you could install an official update thru TWRP and get stock recovery back?
Just throwing out ideas, hope you figure it out
I've documented ths same issue describe here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/locked-bootloader-twr-rooted-t2820341
The solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/mod-reset-unlock-tamper-bit-t2820912
Download and flash that script.

Hi YrrchSebor,
Thanks for the reply.. I already tried all that, even using adb sideload and keep getting same error as mentioned above. I'll try the solution lemonspeakers suggested later today and post the outcome.
Thanks

Be careful if you updated your phone to XNPH30O OTA,
!!! Warning !!!
In the NEW OTA CM11S XNPH30O, the bootloader (aboot) img size changed....
We request all not to apply the unlocker scripts on the new bootloader , until we confirm/find the new bit position.
It might brick your phone and corrupt bootloader...

It won't work.. do not try it if you updated to XNPH30O using the OTA.

I ran this command:
Code:
fastboot.exe boot TWRP-2.7.1.0.img
But the next step does not work:
Code:
It will boot your phone into recovery once from the recovery image
stored in your PC temporarily
then you can flash the zip either by sideload or from sdcard...
I got:
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.484s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: Device not unlocked cannot boot)
finished. total time: 0.487s
That's because you can't boot a recovery with the recent bootloader unless you're unlocked.

[A700] Booting failed

Hi to XDA comunity
... and happy festive season
I tried to install a new ROM. So, I followed tutorials and I have a huge problem
I passed to unlock the tablet
But, when I tried to install the new Recovery, the installation failed and now, the tablet doesn't want to boot
When I boot normaly, in recovery mode or Fastboot mode, I get this message :
Code:
Bootloader Version JB-653b3d3 (Unlock Mode)
Entering boot menu mode
Booting failed
Bootloader VJB-653b3d3(UnlockMode): Starting Fastboot USB download protocol
When I send "Fastboot device", the device is shown
When I send "Fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.0_a700.img"
Code:
sending 'recovert' <5736 KB>...
But still indefinitely
So I stop and retry and I obtain
downloading 'boot.img'...
FAILED <commande write failed <Unknow error>>
finished. total time: 0.???s
i tried to erase recovery and retry.
Tried with several USB cables.
I don't know what to do...
I guess it's a fastboot problem ? How can I found a fastboot file ?
Thanks for any help !

make sure you have the a700 and not the a701 or a510 etc etc....
also, you could try booting directly into fastboot:
1. power off
2. hold power and volume down, while you're doing that, constantly change the rotation switch from lock unlock lock unlock.... keep doing it for about 5 seconds
try flashing from here... it might give you the same result but worth a try.
other possible problems:
1. the recovery you downloaded is corrupt
2. the recovery you downloaded was not a working version
3. you might not have the right usb drivers installed
4. you might have used the wrong recovery commands
5. command (sometimes) needs to be Run as Administrator on Windows (right click)
6. you might have waited too long to reboot to recovery, or used the wrong method to do it
it might make it easier for you if you just rename recovery on computer to recovery.img (so you can just type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
also, I have uploaded a copy of the recovery I'm using (it's newer)
you can also try (while in fastboot)
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
(or any custom recovery)
It should boot without flashing, and from there you're will be able to flash firmware, ROM, etc...

it might be fine but personally I would not try that... recovery and boot are not to be confused and bootloaders are not to be messed with

Trying to boot to twrp

Everytime I try to boot twrp i get this message.
PS C:\adb> fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-4-guacamole.img
< waiting for device >
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.324s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 1.331s
I am bootloader unlocked so I dont know why I am getting that message. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Try "fastboot flash boot [img name]".
The correct command is
Fastboot boot [drag and drop the img]

Are you on Beta1, if so, you can't boot into recovery that way, you need to flash recovery using Magisk first.
No I'm not. I'm on 9.5.11

This command is useless it won't work. Download the latest oxygen OS zip(full rom package not the incremental one), place it in your internal storage and update it via the local updater.
After the update is complete you can boot to fastboot and then the command will work i.e. fastboot boot imagefilename.img
Hope this helps

After flashing a Custom Recovery, If you want to boot to recovery, the actual command through fastboot is
Code:
fastboot boot recovery
or also in the bootloader screen you can press vol+ button untill you see Recovery mode then hit Power button.
The most important point is After flashing a Custom Recovery you must flash the vbmeta with Verity command To make it permanent. Otherwise it'll just revert back to Stock Recovery. (This method only works in Color Os (ie., Android 9), for RealmeUI you need additional thing to do)

Where do we get this vbmeta from? I'm having the same problem, that after flashing twrp.img it just reboots back into fastboot mode. Is this because Secure Boot is enabled and does vbmeta disable that?

After flashing recovery via cmd, you will go back to fastboot on your screen. Navigate the volume buttons til it show Recovery mode on top of the screen. Then press power button and it will boot to recovery.

It turned out the problem was Orangefox. With TWRP it booted into Recovery fine when I selected that option but with Orangefox it would just reboot into fastboot. I'll try some different versions of Orangefox sometime but for now my biggest problem is that it's impossible to set a Lock Screen PIN/Password, let alone use FingerPrint. It seems unlocking the bootloader breaks the security settings.
whats orangefox ? did u found a fix !
I rooted 5i and no use your code. I follow this video
Some code:
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery REALME5i.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
adb reboot recovery
