The Future: Huawei Mate 8 vs P9 Max vs LeMax (US and other LTE Bands?!?)

OK, maybe it's a subset of groups, but the quest for the Holy Grail >6" and <7" Phone continues.
There are a few mid-ranges like Oppo R2 plus, Lenova is just Phab, but a good truly modifiable flag ship type phone seems out of grasp (your mileage may vary). [I actually have been swapping back and forth between the X2 and Note4 enough to make my head spin. I love the customization on the Note4 (use TekHD and OverDrive). BUT 6.3" seems like the perfect sweet spot between the X2 and the Note4.]

This is for looking at what's next and what HAS USA LTE bands,
So some initial contenders.
1) The cool LeTV LeMax. Super cool actually, but misses the US LTE criteria which only partially reduces the pangs of want).

Now the Rumor Mill. There is supposed to be a LeTV LeMax 2. It should have all bands, but they are talking shrinking the screen. :crying:
2) Next up is the Huawei Mate 8

A flagship in the dark which should be public 28 Nov.
How a company does a 6P, Mate S, and now the Mate 8 as THE Flagship, but I'll like it if it is bigger than the 6" and does US LTE
3) So amongst the many Huawei flagships comes the P9 Max, which may be the favorite here in this forum as a successor phone.
P9 Max (6.2" sweet spot). Hope they are smart enough to include us dumb Americans.
4) Maybe the Vivo X6 also?

My only thought is that a 7 inch screen with a 16:10 ratio IS the sweet spot for me, so if it's any smaller or bigger I'm not really interested. Unfortunately that rather restricts my choices, so it's a good job I'm happy with my X2 for now!

If it had US LTE it would and the 702 took custom ROMs easily, it would probably be next to perfect for me, but looking for discussion on other devices.

When I purchased my X2 I actually wanted a P8 Max but the price was too high for me to drop the money on since it still didn't have LTE support here as well as the X2 having a larger battery helped make my decision. The Phab plus has too small of a battery for me to think about buying one. If the Mate 8 comes with full LTE support I'd probably buy one of those as well as the P9 Max. I'm looking for my next purchase to have LTE support as well as band 12 support now that it's pretty prevalent here on Long Island where I live. I'd like something around 6.2" to use as a daily driver and something 6.8 to 7 inches to use as well. I'll probably just stick to the X2 because I like it a lot. My Nexus 6 doesn't get the best battery life and that's the main reason I will sell it. Oh, and it's ONLY 6", lol. The problem is, on many forums I see people complaining that a phone is too big and they ask how others can use something so big. That annoys me as there are PLENTY of smaller phones out there as well as plenty of 5.5-5.7 inch phones as well but not too many over 6 inches.
The 24th and 26th coming up for some announcements.
I don't know if the P9 Max will be discussed or held until MWC.
I was on a trip this week and the lack of LTE really impacted me, compared to my work iPhone (blehck).
Ok, the Mate 8 is outted formally
Wow. If the 8 follows the Mate S trend to support the ATT/GSM frequency bands, this graduates from could buy to must buy. Only the P9 Max vaporware would hold me back.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

If the Mate 8 comes to my country (U.S.) then I will definitely be buying one to replace my Nexus 6. Then hopefully the P9 Max or Mediapad X3 support LTE here and if they do I'll be buying one of those as well. I'm really liking the design of some of these Chinese phones. They are much nicer than almost all the stuff they force down your throat here in the U.S and the batteries are much larger.

Agreed, somehow the Chinese phones have adopted a modern looking industrial design than what Samsung and LG are putting out in their flagship products. The design of the X2 attracted me immediately, as it looks like what I hoped the 2013 Nexus 7 would be. And it's a phone as well!
Anyway, I'm really liking the designs that Huawei, Meizu and Xiaomi are coming out with these days. I remember having a Meizu M6 MP3 player almost 10 years ago that had a surprisingly compelling design that mixed the iPod Nano and iPod Video. Them were the days: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meizu_M6_miniPlayer

I will trade in my Note 4 for a Mate 8 and maybe X2 for an X3 predicated on US LTE support. I agree the designs are going upscale, and beating the US in battery and other Phablet features. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Gionee GN8001 would sell here I think if local LTE supported.

The screenshot says it has a 16:10 2560x1600 screen but the article says it has a 16:9 2560x1440 screen. Which one is it? I'm guessing it's 16:9 as 1440p panels are likely more common at that screen size than 1600p. Either way, I think 1440p/1600p panels make more sense on larger screens than on the current crop of 5-5.7 inch phones.
I hope Huawei doesn't discontinue the Mediapad X series however, just because it is so unique.
Review of LeTV Le Max. More disappointing than I expected. http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015/12/featured-review-letv-le-max-x900.html
Xperia Z6 will include an Ultra version with a 6.4 inch screen. The last Xperia Z Ultra phone was in 2013, with a 1080P 6.44" screen.

I saw that today also. There is a press conference at CES which was thought to be tge Z5 Ultra. I owned the Z Ultra and has been painful watching the 5 successive models go by. We'll see what rumors come true.
For some reason I have never liked Sony's Phones. I had a Z Ultra before the X2 and hated it so much I returned it. I hated the bezels being too large, I hated the undersized battery and I especially hated the door for the MicroUSB charger which ended up falling off constantly. If new Z Ultra has less bezel and a large battery I'd consider picking one up though.

I'm kinda' anti-sony now, regardless. They were always good with replacement phones but my last one they said sorry, won't even fix (for the price of one on swappa). At this point I think a new Ultra may never come out despite Z5 & Z6 rumors. They didn't pan out for Z2 Ultra, Z3 Ultra, Z4 Ultra. It's actually part of the reason I'm waiting on you getting the 702L. I bricked the last "extra" ultra and don't want to do same with the 702L, which is more than a hold over phone with all the improvements by you and in the forum.

HA, I bricked the Ultra as well but not with software. I bought one of those magnetic charging cables for it and plugged it in upside down (it never said anywhere it couldn't be plugged in either way) and the phone shut off and that was all she wrote.
Yup, I was considering getting the Google Play edition of the Z Ultra, but the lack of camera flash (??!) and the enormous top and bottom bezels made it a non-starter. Part of me also thinks that a Z6 Ultra will ultimately be vaporware.
Sony Mobile isn't doing well at all, and I don't see how they would risk their brand name by attaching it to so many different models.

I forgot about the camera not having a flash. That was a big thing as well as I use the flash for a flashlight all the time. Let's hope they learned from their mistakes (although even the new models they just put out still have huge bezels.

XDAPhone, Frustrating Phones in 2016

Hi Guys,
as every year we are looking for an upgrade of handsets (who isn't).
Unfortunately in 2016 there wasn't any phone that exited me in a way like flagships in the past years did.
(Im thinking of S4/5, Note3/4/5, G3/G4, V10, OPO1, Xiaomi Note Pro, Find7.. and so on)
The concept of the XDAPhone remided me of the "welcome in the boredom 2016" Smartphone market.
Short summary:
S7 - Great Cam, Gread Screen, but I prefer larger Phones 5,5" and up
S7 Plus - Great Cam, Gread Screen, i am not so convinced by the edge concept
LG G5 - the G3,G4 were great devices, but why had it gone to a smaller screen?
Note 5/6 - Good Screen, Good Hardware, I think Note 5 maybe the best choise, but the N5 wasn't available in Germany, so i think the N6 will neither
OPO - The first came with a bash, maybe the best phone you couldn't buy in 2014, OPO2 didn't amaze me in that way, leaked specs say it will only have FHD, as i have nearly Eagle Eyes i like 2k Screens
OPPO - No 820 at the moment, they may have something in the funnel but i don't know anything at the moment.
Nexus - Just a Warm 810, no reason to update to, i hope there will be some new models
Conclusion:
The Specs of the XDAPhone would have fitted perfectly to my wishes - i hope there will be a phone that amazes us in 2016.
(5,5"-5,7", SAMOLED in 2k, 4-6GB RAM, 32GB and up Internal, Battery 3000 and up, changable Battery, good Cam, would be nice)
Unfortunately here in Germany we are tied to LTE Band Band 20 (800 MHz), which causes oftentimes difficulties in finding a good choise.
Have you any suggestions for me / what phone are you waiting for in 2016.
Best Regards,
3di

The UHANS S1 has 1.3mm bezels, Android 6.0, and a crystal fingerprint sensor!

http://www.mobiletechasia.com/?p=4763
UHANS is a relatively unknown company, even in the Chinese phone market. Their most popular phone was the UHANS S100, which was a leather backed phone that looked a lot like Vertu phones.
The UHANS S1 looks like their entry into the mainstream, with some very decent specs, and the phone itself looks extremely nice and thin. Power wise it shouldn’t be lacking, but the one thing I’m concerned about is battery life, because the phone is only 6.8mm thick and has small bezels, they could only fit a 2200mAh battery in there, so I’m hopeful that they did some battery magic to up the screen on time.
Gizchina also reported that the camera has Fotonation technology that basically enhances and corrects pictures of people to enhance their pictures, I believe it’s really similar to beautify mode, but probably more in depth.
No price has been announced yet. Follow this thread for more updates.
Specs:
5.0” 1280x720 2.5D Arc display
MTK6753 Octacore Processor
3GB RAM, 16GB ROM
Android 6.0 Marshmallow Freeme OS
13MP/5MP Camera with Fotonation technology
Fingerprint sensor
2200mAh Battery
6.8mm thick
Estimated 120usd ~ 150usd
Duplicate of UHANS S1 5 inches MT6753 3gb, fingerprint

Honor 7X VS xiaomi Mi A1

Got some comparison imformation of the two phones from 91 mobiles and share with your guys.
The online sub-brand of Huawei, Honor has just launched the successor to its Honor 6X (review) – Honor 7X (review) at an event held in London. Notably, the Honor 6X was one of the first smartphones to bring dual cameras to the affordable segment, along with a ton of other premium features. Now, with the launch of the Honor 7X, the brand has once again come into the limelight, as the successor comes as a worthy sequel. The phone has gone on sale on Amazon India starting December 7th and will be competing against Xiaomi’s Android One contender – the Mi A1 (review), in this price segment. Therefore, to clear the confusion as to which one to pick if you are in the market for a new daily driver, we have pitted them against each other. Read on to find out if you should invest in Xiaomi’s Android One offering or the latest dual camera toting budget offering from Honor.
Design and display
Speaking of the Xiaomi Mi A1 first, the handset maintains the signature design of the brand and flaunts a metal unibody design. However, due to the presence of the broad bezels, the device feels wide in the hand as compared to the Honor 7X. However, the subtle curves on the back of the phone makes it feel ergonomic and comfortable to hold. Basically, the design of the Mi A1 is nothing to write home about and is par for course with most Chinese smartphones in this segment. The Honor 7X on the other hand, boasts a more futuristic design with a bezel-less make and the same metal unibody chassis. Thanks to the bezel-less form factor, the smartphone is more in-line with the modern handsets and feels more premium. Both smartphones are pretty lightweight at 165g but the Mi A1 flaunts a thinner 7.3mm chassis as compared to 7.6mm on Honor 7X.
Moving on to the displays, the Xiaomi Mi A1 comes equipped with a 5.5-inch IPS display, which has 1080p resolution. It offers crisp visuals and accurate colours with comfortable legibility outdoors. On the other hand, the bezel-less form of Honor 7X lets it pack a much larger 5.93-inch display in more or less the same footprint. Moreover, with the screen pushing 2,160 x 1,080 pixels in the 18:9 format, the IPS panel offers crisp and vibrant output.
Where are also some other aspects, including: hardware, software, camera, battery,e etc.
So what do you guys think?
The Honor 7X is ~GBP100 more expensive than the Mi A1!
I went from a Honor7 to the MiA1, no complaints, nice phone. Well, apart from the Honor hardly ever being updated in 2 years ... already had more security fixes - and the Oreo update of course - from Xiaomi in the last 3 months or so, than Honor did in over 2 years. The more I think about it, the H.7 (around GBP185 at the time?) was a 'loss leader' to try and get you hooked, and get Honor market share, but they aren't such good value now as their prices are creeping and creeping up.
