Went from an iPhone 4 to Skyrocket and still on my 30-day window. With the news that FCC has approved the release of Galaxy Note this week, I am now torn. I'm loving my SR with ICS ROM very much but still drooling over that 1280x800 AMOLED display. Can anyone give me some advice on what's the best option given my 1 week window to make that decision of sticking with this phone or returning it for the upcoming Note? Is selling this on ebay and buying an unlocked Note a viable option?
Off topic but how do you feel about the switch from iphone to skyrocket? I had the original and then 3gs until picking up this phone 2 weeks ago and I'm not completely sold on it still and debating about switching to the iphone 4s

I personally would only make the switch if the Note had LTE. I'd also make sure that holding a 5.3" screen isn't going to feel awkward in my hands after prolonged use. The skyrocket already makes my hand go numb when holding it at a certain angle reading the news in bed every morning.
I'm in the same boat with both of you. I just switched from the iphone 3g to the skyrocket. It's only been 3 days, but the transition has been difficult. The iphone is so very easy to use, but the SR has so many features. I feel like the skyrocket is my device, where the iphone feels like it's Steve Jobs' device and he lets me use it.
I actually upgraded to the 4s before picking up the SR. I wasn't really impressed. The 4s did not seem that much faster than my 3g, and I thought Siri was a bit gimicky. I guess going from the 3g to the 4s just felt like...meh. It wasn't exciting at all.
My only gripe with the SR so far is the display. It has everything going for it except a 720p display. That would have been OK 6-12 months ago, but now it makes a difference. LTE is what kept me from keeping the iphone. The display on the SR may keep me from keeping it, too.
If we get some sort of confirmation that the Note (with LTE) will come to ATT in the next two months, I'll probably trade my SR in.
I'm 95% certain that it will have LTE and given how LTE eats up the battery, i dont think it will be a deal breaker for me. Hspa+ is more than enough and gives me a day's worth.

Not going back to any iphone. These new androids are in a diff league.
The NOTE with LTE is a game changer.....in my opinion if the Note hits sooner than later no phone can compete. but it has a certain audience - i hope this happens SOON
Quad core Samsung phone changes all the rules.
finally able to play with the Note for a few hours and my hands are just not big enough for even simple 1 hand operation, especially when reaching for links/buttons on the top right corners (i'm a lefty) so I'll just keep my Skyrocket. Right now, even the Nexus is not an option because of it's lack of expansion slot.
The Note might be good for me.. I have big hands .. with me being 6ft and 280lbs it will look just right!

Its not a ONE Handed phone by any means. its a small tablet.
me being 6"1 and in the same boat where i can operate the Skyrocket and reach every corner with just my thumb. i DONT expect to be able to do with that with the Note. but i still dont mind.

Not on Skyrocket but wanted to comment on the switch to android as I came recently from a 3gs (went to GS2). For me the deal breaker was whether I could successfully two way sync with our iCloud claendars. A friend let me play with a Razr and once I confirmed that that wasn't going to be an issue, I got down to playing with Android.
Once I put a custom rom on my phone and got rid of the AT&T bloatware I'm amazed at what android and Samsung can do. You made the right choice going with Samsung, the devs in the skyrocket area are working hard.
If you find yourself thinking about going back to Apple because of the size of the Skyrocket, maybe look at the slightly smaller screen GS2.
Honestly, if Apple had come out witha 4" screen with the 4S I'm sure I would have gone there automatically. I'm glad they didn't because it's given me a chance to really appreciate what Android can do.
Just my 2 cents.
I'm kind of tempted with the Note
I had the Streak with a 5" screen and it was too big. I enjoyed the large screen, but when you had to actually operate it daily, it became a nuisance. The Note...no way. Not even a thought in my mind.

That is true.. would be like trying to "palm" a basketball..
I came from a Dell Streak and I loved that device. Unfortunately I dropped it and broke my screen 2 weeks ago. Tried repairing it, broke a delicate clamp inside and well, now I have a white Skyrocket.
Buddy of mine that works at AT&T corporate said the note will be out next quarter. If it was any sooner I would have prolly just waited. He didn't mention if it was going to be LTE though.
Skyrockets in Flight with XDA Premium
Galaxy Note Oh Yea!!
I came from the Iphone 4 and I absolutely love my Skyrocket. I wouldn't change back if someone paid me. The iphone is so boring.
Anyway I am awaiting the day the Note comes out, I will be trading my phone and throwing in cash for a Note. Thank goodness for craigslist. I might have to wait awhile but it will be worth the wait.
I don't care how big the screen is. I Can't wait to get my hands on that thing.

I bit the bullet and sold my Skyrocket for a Note with US Warranty. All in all, I paid about $150 extra which I think justifies the upgrade. The screen is huge but 1280x800, especially if you connect it to a TV is just filthy. I'm not near any LTE area anyway (and probably not for the next 6 months) so that is not a factor. I hope the popular ROMS here can be rebuilt for the Note, particularly the Rocket Sandwich.
So, like many of you, I am struggling to decide whether to just pull the trigger on the One X, or wait to see what the SGS III feels like in hand. I am really leaning towards the One X, simply based on looks - in my opinion the pictures I've seen of the SGSIII don't do it any favors...
So, for those who did the pre-order and have received your AT&T One X, any regrets? Is there anything about the phone (aside from the 16gb storage) that, after playing around with the phone for a while, you now wish you hadn't decided on the One X?
Finally, assuming I do go with the One X, how the he!! do I decide between White or Gray? They both look great!
Oh yeah, one last thing, I've seen a lot of mention of the $49 deal for a family upgrade - has anyone seen anything better than $149 for a single line upgrade (white or gray)? I've seen one guy say he was able to get AT&T to match RS price of $49 on a single line upgrade - has anyone else had any luck calling and getting them to do this?
Thanks!
No regrets. After seeing the SGS 3 announcement I was even more satisfied with my choice. Aside from some neat software, the SGS 3 isn't any better than the One X, and everybody was expecting it to blow it out of the water. Coming to US with the S4 (same processor as the One X) and the same screen as the Galaxy Nexus (which I am not a fan of)...glad I didn't wait. I also think it just looks ugly. But that could just be me. My One X will be delivered today. I won't be home to get it until Sunday
Rabble rabble rabble.

No regrets. I also am amazed at how many posts I see when I get a new device... some people spend weeks or even months contemplating a phone. I'm not rich by any means, but when a new phone comes out I buy it and sell my old one at near MRSP as I keep them in mint condition.
Just buy the phone. It's awesome! Also, most places have a return period too so you can take it home to play around with. I never understood how people could spend so much time contemplating over whether to purchase a phone or not. It's crazy.
Bro the s3 is a frickin sham!
Touchwiz makes it look cartoonish at best
Siri-uh-hem s-voice will soon be replaced by androids own majel
The whole eye following crap won't work even in a dim-ishly lit room and at angles
The Mali gpu can't hope to compete with t3 even if the CPU is faster
And man, it is fugly while the x is easily one of the best looking phones around

unfortunately, I've been stung in the past with jumping on a new product right at launch (Captivate GPS issue, Transformer Prime GPS issue again!) when waiting a bit to get others' reactions might have saved me some headaches or buyer's remorse.
Chances are that I am going to plunk down my credit card on Sunday for the One X, but any real-life experiences I can hear about before then will be helpful!

Several review units have now been out for a week or two, as well as the Rogers guys that have had it for a few weeks. Id say its 99% positive feedback from GPS to OS to battery life.
The 1% of course is the issue of non removable battery and storage. If you get over that hurdle, you should be fine.
So I can get the S4 for $49 through AT&T directly or the HTC One for $0, both plus tax of course... have to love California franchise tax board but I digress...
As you can see, I currently own an S2 and have absolutely loved it ever since I've had it. It's been a great phone. My fear in getting the S4 is that it's gonna be a incremental upgrade whereas the One is something completely new. But is that better?
My S2 is the 16GB version with a 8GB microSD inside and that's been more than enough room. So the One with 32GB would be overkill. But then there's no removable battery and I've replaced mine once.
Will I get bored of the S4 pretty quick or is it really THAT much of an upgrade? Does Blinkfeed get old quick with the One? I know the earbuds are pretty kick ass with the One though.
I hate these types of decisions.

Well I was under the gun to make a decision as this wasn't a normal offer so I went with the S4. I've had great luck as I said with my S2 and a few of my friends have the S4 and they love it. But I did spend some time using the One and it's just built so well and Blinkfeed is quite slick. In the end, I chose based on a few things like the placement of the power button on the One and lack of a front button like the S4 has. Really minor things but I had to rationalize it one way or the other... :victory:

There is a very very long story. I've spent numerous hours on the phone with customer service over a variety of issues. This last issue was about me getting horrendous connection from a cell tower that's less than half a mile away. I had an engineer out to check it out and confirmed it. There is no immediate remedy for this. I called customer service and offered a 25 dollar inconvenience fee. I took it as an insult. Manage to get my hands on the the regional managers number, explained my situation, and bam, wiped my monthly balance of 245 plus gave me a S7 Edge Silver for free. Been a loyal customer for 11 years. I thanked the guy and I am looking forward to another 11 years.
I finally gave up my Note 7 though. Saddest day of my life. S7 is nice but... it's no Note 7.
first world problems much?
i think it's safe to say we can call the note 7 user base the Crybabies of Android.
what is sad about getting rid of a phone that could cause you serious injury?
what is the difference between the S and the Note7 that makes you feel emotional and sad?
this reminds me of people who care more about the name "iPhone" or "galaxy" for the trend, than how the phone really performs.
you know these phones don't even have AOSP roms, right? neither of these phones are that great really - let alone anything to get emotional over. if you want a better phone to keep your tears from falling, I suggest a newer Nexus phone or OnePlus 3.
now if the CM team all quit and abandoned the project. now that's an Android topic I'd get emotional over!
edit: just checked, and S7/Note7 appear to have the same exact specs aside from the screen size (in which the S7E has a higher pixel density). except the S7E has a better battery. what exactly makes you sad about this? the fact that you can't walk around with something "called" an iPhone? oops, I mean "Note."

those sound like some groundbreaking exclusive features. it's a shame we will never experience these legendary functions on any phone but the amazing note 7.
think about it. for the 7 line, the Galaxy S Edge is now the top Samsung phone of 2016. they are obviously gonna bring the software features from the note to the S7.
it's funny. anyone who has paid for an S7E probably loves their phone and is happy to have one of the fastest OEM android phones on the planet. yet we get these people who come to this forum, who don't care about android development, or probably the power of their own phone. and complain about stuff that has literally nothing to do with Android like this is the place to do it.

You are entitled to your own opinion. I can't speak for everyone but what I can say, I worked hard to get that phone, it is not cheap, so there is a sentimental value to it not to mention what "chrisbo4" said as well which are features I do miss.

That has already been answered. The Spen is the biggest for me. I use it quite often as I have an issue with sweaty hands so using phones can be difficult. I can't speak for Iphone users but the Note series have features that no other phone has, especially the 7. I worked hard to get it. I spent countless hours going through the exchanges. It's funny how you assume that it cost me nothing to get a Note 7. You have no idea.

I don't care about AOSP. I haven't used AOSP since the Note 3 series. They are always unstable anyways. You are entitle to your opinion. Spec yes they are similar, features wise, there is a difference. As mentioned already by chrisbo4, just to name a few. As far as the battry life, I am actually getting less battery out of my S7E than I did on my Note 7. Until you use both phones, you really have no idea what you are talking about. I suggest you stop talking out of your butt. I can't really respond to the personal attacks, they are just silly.
First he is entitled to his own opinion, My opinion is ASOP are ugly and haven't changed much since 2011. yes they have lots of customizable features but they've been the same and are stale. Touchwiz has come along way and has done much to change its typical lag habbits and look unlike the pure google which has virtually been like apple with minor change which can branded as "DATED" I've had 3 Note 7s and now have a s7 edge and I'm perfectly happy with it. To me it doesn't have as a premium feel as the note 7 did. I didn't want to give up my note 7 but something better will be out in less than a year. I'm sure Samsung will put out an update give the edge a lot of the features that the N7 had including the settings menu, blue light filter and further update the AOD. as for the colors, i have a black one right now and I'm trying to get a replacement black one which is hard being they're back ordered and rumors have that we will see a Blue coral s7 edge around Christmas time.
I'm quite happy with the exchange from N7 to the S7E. I do miss the SPen and it's features much so, but the S7E is an adequate substitute till the Note 8! Just my opinion!

It's not about hardware as is so often brought up in the Android world. It's about the software experience and features. And no, the S7E is not up with the Note 7. It might be with Android 7 but we'll see. And stop bringing up bloody iPhones .. this isn't an Apple forum.
It appears you just wanted to be a jackass and haven't actually used both the S7E and the Note 7.

It was at the Microsoft Store in Colorado. It looked stunning. Now I'm really excited. Display seemed WAY better than my note 9 and very zippy as well. A worthwhile upgrade imo.
Samsung store here in Garden City, NY which is on Long Island had all variants on display. Including the 5g version. I pre-ordered the Note 10 to replace my S10. I liked the form factor of the smaller one despite it not being equal to the plus version. Plus ring able to get $600 on the trade in made it a no brained to upgrade.

I played with Note 10 and a bit with 10+ in Best Buy(in WA). I pre-ordered the Note 10 and it sits nicely in the hand, very thin and seemed light. Screen is good, bright and vivid, performance is good too, felt smooth. The demo unit had a lot of shortcuts, widgets on different screens and it was running the demo firmware. What is interesting that the model # was something like: SM-N970XU. I don't know if this is an unlocked model or Samsung put some of carrier's phones on display, but I didn't see any carrier logo while booting the phone.

Good Lord that Aura Glow is cool, but is gonna blind the crap out of anyone you are trying to take a picture of. "Here son, look at the camera." "I can't Dad, the reflection off that mirror you are holding is blinding." It actually kinda bothered my eyes in the lights of Best Buy even, but my eyes are a bit sensitive like that. Lol.
