I'm looking for a USB-C plug for my Nexus 6P. There are so few on the market and I would like to try one.
http://www.amazon.com/Charging-Qualcomm-Certified-Supported-included/dp/B017I7EX46/
Anybody tried this charger and cc cable? Reviews say it works pretty well, but is there any tool like CheckR to test and approve the usb-c plug and cable? This might be important to note, due to the whole fiasco with the cables which would damage the phone/charger due to incorrect build. Benson Leung only tests AC cables as far as I know.
While there is the potential for a USB C charger and cable to not be powerful enough to meet the 3amp charging spec, a type C to C cable is unlikely to fail to be compliant in the same way as the A to C cables are.
The A to C cables were mostly non compliant as they were being identified as being compatible with the USB C spec and thus being able to supply 3amps of power, whereas in reality cables/chargers with type A connectors max out at 2.4 amps or in most cases a lot less.
A-C cables required a 56K resistor, but most companies initially used a 10K one which was the issue. C-C cables don't need a resistor the way that the A-C ones do,so they should all be compliant from what I understand.

I have been looking at the end chotech charger on amazon for 2 days now trying to figure out if it's OK or not since it's not on the Benson list of approved chargers.
Are you saying that if you get a charger like the one in the original posters link that has a USB c port you'll be fine because there is no USB A cable in the equation?

It should be fine as long as it only supports 5V/3(like the Choetech does) and not a different quick charging method like QC 2.0/3.0.

Sounds great I'm ordering it right now.
One more question, I found a C 2 C cable and it's 3Meters long. Does the length of the cable matter?
Here's the one I'm looking at https://goo.gl/photos/jEYvVABFZFPy2B2g9

Even if it supports Qualcomm's QuickCharge, isn't part of the QC spec that there's a chip inside the charger to identify QC-capable devices and otherwise act as a 'normal' charger?
I would think so long as it supports 5V/3A you would be fine no matter what other standard it supports.
Here's a link to a google doc that details cables and charges that have been tested. It says if the item is compliant or not.

I don't see an issue, but keep in mine that longer cables could have a current drop due to increased resistance over the length. It shouldn't be a huge amount so I wouldn't worry about it. I use the Google 6ft C-C cable and get the full 3A when my battery is below 40%.

That's correct, but I don't want to fully recommend something that could cause an issue. I have a charger with QC 3.0 over the Type-C port and I have 0 issues using it. It still violates the USB standard to have QC 2.0/3.0 over a Type-C port, but that doesn't mean it won't work. It works, but could potentially cause an issue at some point. I can link you the post by Benson Leung along with the appropriate USB standard if you need it.

By any chance have you tested this one?
USB Type C Wall Charger, Tronsmart 33W Dual USB Turbo Wall Charger with Quick Charge 3.0 Technology for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X (5V/3A)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019C23ZGW
Still waiting to receive mine. Obviously it's not up to spec because of the type-c + QC 3.0 standard on the same port but hopefully it works fine. And I also really want that extra type A port and foldable pins. I'm also thinking of getting a Robin when it comes out which uses type-C but with QC 2.0.

I haven't tested that charger, but I do have the exact same model with 2 Type-A ports instead of 1 A and 1 C. Maybe Tronsmart will send me one to test out You can see a review of the version I have in my signature (last link that's says Tronsmart Titan). I have their car charger which also has the same voltages over the Type-C port and it charges my 6P just fine even though its technically not in spec.

Yeah saw that when you first posted it. I've had other Tronsmart chargers and cables before. I also bought the Titan when it first came out too and they haven't failed or anything yet. I'm just a little cautious since type-C is new. Hopefully Tronsmart sends you the wall charger to test. I won't get mine for a few weeks due to international shipping and everything.
I've got the Choetech C to C charger and cable. Would recommend it without any hesitation. Build quality is on par with the stock charger, but nothing more. It's not braided or anything, so it's a normal cable with a normal charger

I guess we will see what happens. The Titan is a beast, but I can't use the full potential is has with 2 phones. The wall charger should work fine if it's anything like their car charger.
hey guys
i had a nexus 6 and have a bunch of QC 2.0 chargers
now that i have a 6P, can i still use the wall adapters and plug in a full size usb to usb 3 cable into the wall adapter?
does the wattage of the adapter work? or should i look to buy a new one with a usb c port
thanks
It'll charge, but not at full speed since the 6p isn't QC certified. You'll have to get usb-c chargers that can deliver 5v/3a
whats the best charger i can get on amazon? not just cable
I use this one:
http://www.amazon.com/SONEic-Type-C-Charger-Devices-Included/dp/B017BVLLC6
It's identical OEM charger that shipped with the 6p/5x, just rebranded.
so thats the same price as https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_charger darn... nothing cheaper on amazon!
Awesome thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. Because I didn't like the ones in the Google store. I wanted another of what it shipped with.

Nexus 6P original adapter charging vs. third-party chargers charging
Hi, here are some points for Nexus 6P charging and Quick Charge 2.0:
1. Nexus 6P doesn't support Quick Charge 2.0/3.0, but its original adapter supports 5V/3A charging, actually the speed is even faster than Quick Charge 2.0 18W maximum power (6P original adapter charging efficiency is better than Quick Charge 2.0)
2. Mainstream Quick Charge 2.0 port is USB-A port, you can use a USB-A to USB-C cable to charge your Nexus 6P. But be sure to use the qualified cable, you should choose the USB-A to USB-C cable with 56K Rp, about how to choose type-c cable, you can refer to Google engineer Benson, he reviewed nearly all the type-c cables on market, see https://plus.google.com/+BensonLeung
3. Original Nexus 6P original adapter is with female Type-C port and a type-c to type-c cable, so you'd choose similar format third-party chargers. I found some female type-c charger adapter is also with Quick Charge 3.0.
4. Here there is a Nexus 6P charging analysis http://www.tronsmart.com/nexus-6p-charging-analysis by Tronsmart, although it seems an ads by Tronsmart, it offer some important info about Nexus 6P charging, maybe it is useful for you.
That is what I know, any question or opinion, let's discuss.

You happen to know if there is an EU plug available for this charger? I can't seem to find anything other than US plug.
I use this Anker multi port charger, it has a native USB C port, plus 4 regular USB ports. With a total of 40W, I can charge a lot of things at the same time, and it's the best solution for travel. The cable is detachable, so you should be able to find a European AC cable for it

Does anyone have a recommendation for a compliant compact USB C car charger? The addition of QC 3.0 would be a nice feature as well, but it isn't mandatory. Thanks for your time!

This one charges at full rapid speed and has an outlet for another device. (in short it rocks!) https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0172QQNBY/
I think I'll go with the Aukey one, that looks really nice. Anyone know of any good 1ft C to C cables? Amazon doesn't seem to have many 1FT sized ones.
Choetech makes good cables and has a 1' one. They also sell a nice, compact charger with both a type C and a qc3 port
Can't post link, but the Blitzwolf model is what I've used with my 6p the past year and I highly recommend. Built-in cable with a second port for another device. Go to Amazon and search for: BlitzWolf 27W 5V/3A Type-C Port Attached Cable + 5V/2.4A USB Quick Charger
Blitzwolf is good, and likely the same as what weisguy linked to. It's sold under many brands, I think aukey or Anker or one of the bigger brands has it too
I have this one and I really love it. Small, but good, and approved by Benson Leung.

Thanks everyone for your input

Shout out to @Nathan-K and Benson. I've spent hours reading their G+ pages and Amazon reviews and I'm blown away by the work they're doing trying to hold manufacturers accountable and keep consumers safe.
Tl;dr - most are junk currently, and some are even dangerous. 1 specific Verizon version for usb-c pd (TYPECPDVPC ONLY!) is the most acceptable one.

Check out this spreadsheet it has chargers on it and one is type car. There are no perfect PD chargers at the moment (18W) AUKEYCC-Y7 and Verizon 27w TYPECPDVPC are the least bad. It is probably best to take the 3W hit at the moment and go for a 15W non PD car charger like the Belkin 15w F7U005bt04-BLK or Nomad B015NN0OKO. Personally I have gone for the AUKEYCC-Y7 PD charger as although not perfect it is at least cheap.
Bear in mind that some chargers come with a fixed USB-C charging cable. Ones that are cable less will need a decent cable as well. Decent ones cost as much as the chargers. So given the current price I recommend going for the Belkin 15W charger with built in cable

So there's no issue using an old micro USB charging cable? I planned on using my old ones and I purchased a 2 pack of USB-C to Micro USB adapters from Amazon. Can't seem to get clarification about the micro USB chargers..
I have no clue with micro > C adapters. The OEM A>C cable works great and make sure any 3rd party A > C cables should have the required 56kΩ resistor.
I am using a few of these from Anker on an old .5a Moto charger, older Anker car charger and an extra thrown in my work bag.

Of course there is an issue, you need to use either use a micro to c adapter with a 56k ohm pull-up resistor in it or a an approved a to c cable that also has a 56k ohm pull-up resistor.
EDIT: make sure you bookmark that google spreadsheet and check it for up to date~ info.

The 27w Belkin is now considered bad after further testing has shown it to allow the pixel to backfeed power.
Oh, all Belkins are now in the bad -2 recommendation..

A Micro to usb type c adapter didnt come with the phone. You can use the USB A to C cable that came with the phone with legacy chargers.
Has anyone plugged their pixel into an "old" charger and actually had an issue? I see lots of people going crazy about chargers and also see lots of people that use any old charger they have with a cheap adapter and they have no issue.

I use my old charger with the oem a to c cable and my old a to micro cable with a micro to c adapter that has the 56k ohm resistor just fine, it's just slower than max, but no big deal. hardly ever have to use it, but have it just in case.
I have been using an old Anker pre QC charger and it has been working fine.
I haven't tried the QC3 charger in my wife's car yet.
For now the A>C cables with the 56 ohm resistor is the safe way to go.

The Belkin 15 watt used to be recommended as it was the charger for the 6p. I have used it with the 6p and now the Pixel. Not sure why it went from 2 to -1. Obviously it does not do PD with the Pixel, but I cannot see it doing harm. Same is true for the Google 6p wall charger. I sue that with the Pixel also. Any thoughts?

I would guess the change is for charging as noted. There are some further comments about a lack of IR drop compensation circuitry in the Google+ information below. I view the list as simply somewhat subjective opinions from an engineer, and like you said, I couldn't find comments in Google+ to suggest the Belkin you're talking about might pose a threat to a phone. My previous Razr M would tend to lose power when charging and using navigation, so I may just keep the Belkin PD model and see what happens with a replacement, in spite of the current -2 in the list.

Hi all, just ordered a Pixel XL to replace my 4 core failing Nexus 6P. I have no idea what kind of charger is coming with it, and even if its OEM, I'd like to have 2. I have read many threads about the non PD compliant chargers not providing rapid charge, and am wondering what the consensus is on using a Nintendo Switch charger? My local Best buy has the official Google Pixel XL charger for $34.99, and the official Switch AC adapter is $10 less. Has anyone tried this, or have any thoughts on using this? With all the stories about nonPD if I have to, I'll just get the official google one, but was wondering if this was an option.
Thank you!
The Pixel XL comes with a USB-C charger and a USB-A to USB-C cable, so any standard USB-A rapid charger will work.

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/accessories/usb-c-pd-chargers-google-pixel-xl-t3474205
that only certain chargers provide fast charge. I did not buy the phone new so I don't know if it comes with the standard google charger or not.
belkin type c rapid charger should be available for cheap at your local walmart/target/best buy. pretty good quality cable for the price.
My switch charger ended up damaging the port after continued use. I recommend saving up for the official one
Tried many chargers, only the original Google ones seem to charge at rapid charging speed. Oh Belkin car charger ones does as well.
I tried a NS charger (HAC-002 USZ) on a Pixel XL a day ago and it worked fine and did rapid charging.
Mine didn't come with a charger (bought off eBay). I bought a so called fast charger (can't remember brand but it looked legit Qualcomm fast charge capable) and it says it's fast charging but it takes about twice as long to charge as my old OnePlus 5 did.
