Do anyone know where I can get a UK firmware to enable the fingerprint scanner? - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

I tried to find something form google but didn't find it. Can anyone give me a link of official UK firmware for XZ? Thanks.
P.S.
I really not understand why SONY US want to disable fingerprint scanner in US firmware.

Hi there!
You can use Xperifirm to get different firmwares for all Xperia devices including the XZ. Once you have downloaded the UK firmware flash it with flashtool.

It's copyright.
Another company in the USA holds the patent to the side mounted fingerprint reader, or something like that.

Thank you, I have flashed my XZ with UK firmware and enabled fingerprint scanner.

[Q] How to proceed with D6643 model?

Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Z3 D6643 (build 23.0.A.2.106) that is marketed in Brazil by Claro Telco with DTV (1-seg) receiver. How should I proceed with bootloader unlocking and rooting? I mean, is there anything that affects this specific model regarding BL unlocking and/or rooting? Am I stuck with my stock ROM because of the DTV tuner specifics, or any ROM is supposed to support it?
This is my first Xperia, so I'm a little lost here.
Thanks in advance,
I have no idea whether or not the D6643 can be rooted, as I wasn't actually aware of this particular variant. I do know, however, that you can check whether or not your bootloader can be unlocked by checking the service menu. Enter this code in your dialer:

There's still not a lot of talk about this specific variant since it's only available in Brazil (as far as I know). I have been lurking around here trying to find more information as well (I have one Vivo branded) and from what I can tell you can install the generic D6603 firmwares on it and you only lose the DTV. There's a specific thread regarding bootloader unlocking and rooting but you need to be aware that at this moment this means that you lose your DRM keys if you unlock. So read more about it and make an informed decision if you decide to go ahead because at this moment it's not reversible.
I bought this variant too (but still time to get D6633 dual since I didn't received yet) . My concern is about CM, will FreeXperiaProject be targeted for all variants or only D6603? Any hint about that @jerpelea ? thanks
hey conterraneos,
looking at the white paper by sony, it appears this D6643 is the D6653 with TV funcionality. As the D6653 is widely available, i'm fairly sure that most of the custom rom projects will be compatible with it, and we'll be missing the .apk executable for the TV.
however, when we get to the point where custom roms are available we will hopefully have root already (w/o losing DRM keys that is), and we'll be able to pull the DTV apk from the original Sony firmwares and inject it in any rom that we want. I believe that as long as your kernel supports the TV Tuner (in which case the stock obviously does) all you need is the TV app itself. Many other brazilian variants of flagship phones have TV as well, does anyone here have a past experience on this matter? I'm a user that has just seen the light and will switch from Apple now, so not a lot of Android experience apart from my HP TouchPad tablet.

Thank you for the service menu code, it shows that the bootloader can be unlocked.

I've read some threads and ppl saying that there's an official and an unofficial (Test Point, link below) method for unlocking BL. Using the unofficial would preserve the DRM keys, unfortunately it seems to involve physical wiring so I will not go through that way, at least for now.

So, do you think the D6653 kernel supports the DTV tuner? If so, just pulling the original TV apk would be great.
Thank you guys for all the feedback. I'm in love with Z3! :silly:

The kernel will remain your stock D6643 one. The ROM that would be one for the D6653. It's just a matter of finding out where the drivers for the TV Tuner are located. I would assume they're kernel-based, but I might be wrong. Again, this is my first Android handset, so I'm just speaking on an engineer's PoV.

For root Xperia Z3 D6643 try this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/development/root-stock-kernel-twrp-v01-test-28-09-t2889794
It is working fine in my Xperia Z3 D6643 (23.0.A.2.93), I used KERNEL IMAGE D6653 / D6603 23.0.A.2.93.

Phones are produced for Argentina, with the same configuration of Brazil. I work in a company that produces mobile phones for Sony.

I hear that Sony sells D6643 unbranded via website and stores but also distributes branded ones for carriers. I'm looking for the customizations codes for the unbranded, but since it is about $200 expensive via website, it's hard to find one. Do you think you can get this info?

I imagine he followed the official way to do it, which is the only way to do it,
Hey guys, just got mine but the build number is 23.0.A.2.106. Maybe I can use the same as the final 105?
Btw I can't find the DTV app too, I only have the one that works in the remote control. I really wants to root the phone because I bought it from Claro, and there's a lot of apps I want to take it off.

Newbie - debranding Z5

Hi everyone
I have just purchased my first Sony phone, the Z5.
It is on Vodafone UK but has been officially unlocked. I wish to debrand and put on stock Sony android software so remove the network branding. Can someone pleas ehlpe as I have never done this before. I have just downloaded flashtool.
My second question - If I use flashtool to change to stock software, will I still receive OTA updates for future software updates rather than having to use flashtool all the time?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, with official firmware everything will be fine.

Hi to all, sorry if I port afloat this old thread.
I have a Z5 with a MM branded firmware (TIM Italy). I already know how to debrand it flashing another compatible firmware.
My question is: is it necessary wipe all data, also if I flash another MM firmware?
By what I read, I understood that if I stay on the same major update (in this case MM) I shouldn't meet any kind of problem also if I didn't wipe all. Is it right?
Thanks to all

Xperia XZ F8331 - Is it possible to enable the fingerprint reader after Nougat OTA?

Hey, this is my first post and I'm inexperienced with Android tinkering so I apologize if I've broken any rules. I searched but would like clarification as Nougat has changed things.
Is there any way to enable the fingerprint reader after the Nougat OTA for the US version of the XZ F8331?
I mistakenly didn't realize Nougat had changed things and unwittingly soft bricked my XZ the other day but managed to unbrick it and really want to avoid bricking it again.
It seems that downgrading to Marshmallow via flashtool is possible? so maybe it could be possible to downgrade to the UK Marshmallow and then get the UK Nougat OTA and then get the fingerprint reader to function that way?
Any rom you use that isn't the US rom will allow fingerprint to work.
Right, but flashtool isn't compatible with Nougat yet. I just got the idea of using Emma though, will look into it more soon
Yeah, you can just flash an MM rom and update to Nougat via OTA.
EMMA will only work with devices with unlocked bootloaders.
You are correct in your first thought. Just flash a UK FTF for MM and get the OTA Nougat update.
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the Customized UK MM FTF seems to be no longer available from XperiFirm and I haven't had any luck trying to find it elsewhere.
How much does the Market/Operator matter? Maybe a customized MM FTF from another region is better? Anything I should be worried about?

Not really. Only a bit of bloatware, everything else is about the same.
You may be able to find an older FTF from here though
Thanks again! There is a Customized UK FTF for MM on the site you linked but it can't be downloaded for free unfortunately.

I am wondering the same - new F8331 on N OTA and enabling the fingerprint reader. Any luck on your end figuring this out?
I've been running customized NOBA in my Z5 for a while here in the US and have been very happy with it. Customized NOBA for the XZ still hasn't been updated to Nougat, so that could be an option. I don't get to unwrap my XZ until Christmas, so I've already downloaded the MM version currently on Xperifirm to re-enable my fingerprint sensor first.
I like customized NOBA because it has bloatware you can completely uninstall.
You should be able to google the central europe firmware (marshmallow) and use that. I just fixed 2 XZs yesterday after banging my head against the wall over the firmware.
Update to marshmallow using flashtool and then OTA update to nougat. Central Europe works perfectly and I get the LTE symbol (some people hated the 4G symbol even though it's the same). Finger print scanner works (both phones are US versions from Amazon).
Help me please

Will the US variant of XZ Premium have fingerprint sensor hardware?

I understand that the US variant will not have fingerprint sensor, but does it have the underlying hardware that we can activate via flashing official UK tools/Rom? It was possible with the XZ, so just wondering. Thank you.
Yes, just flash non-us fw and it works again.

Note that Chinese Mainland (CN) FW doesn't have Google Framework, you may try HK or TW version.
The flash tool for XZP is still on developing, keep an eye on https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...gress-newflasher-xperia-command-line-t3619426

Ok, that makes sense, but she won't be able to access google from mainland China without using VPN access. I'll use the HK version instead, since when comes here next year from Shanghai she'll be able to access google. Will the US firmware have the Chinese language on it, thats what I am really worried about.

All you have to do is download fw via flashtool, download this, drop the files inside the zip into the fw folder, connect your phone in flashmode and start newflash.exe, it will then flash.
I think that the hardware is there. It's just disabled for patent issues in the US.
