After fighting with no success to get a Dual Shock 4 controller working via BT (no root) or OTG adapter, I'm looking for another option.
Anyone have any luck with/recommend any BT controllers and the Pixel XL? I'm trying my best to avoid rooting the device as I'd like to maintain OTA and Android Pay compatibility (when it becomes available in canada).
I've had good luck with the 8bitdo controllers (http://8bitdo.com/). I used the FC30PRO with my Nexus 6 and my Pixel XL and REALLY like it. It works great with Play Store games and also emulators. The build quality is really good and it has most buttons you'll need for most games. The manufacturer is also active in releasing new firmware when necessary.

So after i gave away my smaller moga controller in a giveaway(winner will be announced July 5th) i decided to order the moga pro and give my perspective on it. this controller is a must have for hardcore mobile gamers, especially with console like quality games releasing everyday. This controller only retails for $49.99 so it's very affordable. And with enough feed back from you guys im def giving this away once i throw up a few more videos on it. tell me what you guys think about.

It really is affordable. But only if you live in the states. International shipping is heaps too expensive.

This is available from Game.co.uk if you live in the UK. I used flubit.com and got it for £34.99 and it came delivered from Game.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm in Australia. Shipping from UK is expensive too.
Just posted a very detailed review of MOGA Pro: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351418

any uk folk still after this, game.co.uk have this in stock at the moment. i've just ordered mine, will post back once it arrives to report if it's actually any better/worse than the many other awful blutooth controllers for android phones
fingers crossed this one's half decent
Another cheap alternative to this if you dont have to have wireless is a OTG Usb cable and hooking up a PS3 controller, works PERFECT and no need to be rooted or no drivers to install
plug in and play
you can use it over bluetooth if you are rooted
received this yesterday and i'm really happy with it. much better than the nyko and other android controllers i've tried. works best on moga enhanced games like dead trigger and gta iii. these games auto-detect when the moga is connected and adjust the control system accordingly. so there is no need to remap buttons or change any settings, these games just work out of the box so to speak.
for other games, the moga can make use of the HID mode. this is great for emulators where you can map each button to match whichever corresponding button in the emulator.
only problem is that the "select" button can not be mapped, as it always acts as the "back" button (same as the back button at the bottom of the phone itself). this is the same on every wireless controller i've tried though. i think the ps3 dual shock 3 controller can be mapped correctly, but without root this needs to be plugged in.
also, it took me a while to work out the axis mapping on epsxe, as these are not mapped by pressing the triggers or using the sticks, but must be selected manually. this took a bit of trial and error, so to save you the trouble, here are the settings that work......these may work for other controllers too?
Left Stick X = AXIS_X
Left Stick Y = AXIS_Y
Right Stick X = AXIS_Z
Right Stick Y = AXIS_RZ
L2 Stick = AXIS_BRAKE
R2 Stick = AXIS_GAS
If you do not set the axis correctly, they will simply not operate within the psx games.
I also set analogue range to Circle rather than Square.
now that all my emulators are set up, i'm very happy with this controller. it works well, holds the phone nicely, isn't too heavy and is very responsive. would recommend this controller certainly over any other i've tried, unless you are rooted or don't mind using a wired controller, in which case stick with the ps3 ds3, that's the ultimate conroller and works flawlessly.
just received my nyko play pad and very sad to report how poorly it functions.
neither trigger works it's as if they are not even present in any app or game. the left analogue slider constantly drifts upwards even when you aren't touching the controller at al. and the start/select buttons can not actually be mapped in any game because all they do is mimic the menu and back buttons at the bottom of the s4.
anyone who was thinking of getting this for gaming on their s4 i'd say to avoid it. after trying a couple of different controllers now i'm thinking i may have to just admit that all these bluetooth controllers are a waste of time and i'm better off just sticking to my wired ps3 dual shock pad. shame that this can not be wirelessly paired without rooting, as i need a stock/untouched device in order to run sky go app (very much needed).
another one to definitely avoid is anyone on ebay selling wii u controllers as "android os" compatible. I found out the hard way that they are just referring to it's compatibility with some android based apps on the wii, and will not pair with android devices at all.
just a heads up
Just root already
much rather have sky go than root. trust me when you have a 10 hour shift on a sunday with absolutely no custom, you need something to watch
I’ll second the notion to root. I love using my PS3 controller to play Mario 64 on my S4 wirelessly. As far as SkyGo goes, you actually have a couple of options man. I’d try Hide My Root, which looks like a few Galaxy owners verify work to use SkyGo in the review section. Didn’t see an S4 one though. It’s worth a shot. Or I even heard of a working Sky Go repository for XBMC if you’re familiar with that at all. XBMC is kind of a chore to get video playing but some people swear it’s the future.
i tried a whole host of root hiding apps on my xperia s when i had it, and not only did they not work but they required me to totaly restore the entire stock rom before i could get sky go running again.
While riding bart (public transportation), I was thinking of getting a handheld gaming system to keep my entertained on my hour long ride. However, I figured why not use the phone? It's a octa-car and can play most (if not all) 3D action games and such. So I did some research and I have two choices:
1. Put together a gaming kit with a PS3 Dualshock 3 controller, OTG Cable & USB, a phone clip
2. Get the Moga Pro Power gamepad.
The only major concern I have with the Moga, is the fact that it's primarily only a bluetooth controller. I'm not sure if I'm the only one here, but the bluetooth sucks on this phone. I love the V10, but bluetooth functionality is so unreliable. I get choppy music playback on all my stereo kits, and I know it works with Samsung and Apple devices - so it's the phone.
Rant aside, I was thinking of going with option 1, because I have the ability to use both bluetooth or wired connection for the controller to work with the phone. Though I like the all-in-one Moga controller, everything is already put together with some software to help it along the way. I am rooted, so I'm not scared to do my own research to make stuff work with my phone in terms of setting up the initial connection, but I just want to pick an item that will stick and offer a lag free experience.
I was thinking of just buying everything and return what doesn't work, but I don't like doing that.
Thanks
I have a Moga (the basic and cheaper one) and it just work with few games and the app for my controll is the same for the expensive one, beside that, my controll works great with EMULATORS like Mame, SNES, etc... If I was you I would probably prefer the ps controll with otg...
Desde V10 (LG-H901)
I have pro power and had it linked I never had any real issue with it. It worked great! I have it to the wife so she can use it now I am using steel series great controller but no clip a very big downfall so I don't play much games on my phone anymore

Thanks for the suggestions, I went with the Moga Power A, because I like the feel of the XBox like form controller. So far the performance is excellent! I actually do not have any issues with it, and I've been playing native and emulator games with no struggles.
Thanks again for your responses.
hello i am looking for a low profile 3.5mm headphone jack IR emitter
i really like this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-IR-Sm...964868?hash=item1c60135884:g:iWYAAOSwuYVWoAqP
i love the design of it and it is the only one i can find ,well one of the only ones i can find with a low profile that does not stick way our and look ridiculous (the other one looks nearly identical and comes witha keychain holder but the edge had rough spikes and it does not have BMW logo looking front face ,but appears to run on the same app ,but says IOS only)
problem i see many similar looking ones ,there are few on amazon that look the same but have different names and different branding, but they all seem to use the same app i guess, limited to only be able to be used with that one app
the other problem is that i see some that say it does not work with android and some that say it does and then the ones that say it works with android say it only works with certain phones
my question is does this work with android and will it work with this tablet? anyone tried one of these yet?
i do not understand why it would work with some phones/devices and not for others
i mean the app should run the same on all phones/ android devices and the 3.55 mm headphone jack can't be all that different from device to to device
but i have seen a bunch of mixed reviews from people saying it is either great or that it sucks and will not even work on any IOS device, i really want this product , i would like to use it on my fire 7 but also on my iphone 5c and i plan on upgrading to a nexus 6p soon so would like to know if anyone has used one of these and has tried it on any of those devices , but primarily right now i wont it for the fire, would be great since 3.55mm is at the top and this is nice and low profile
most of the ebay auctions and amazon ads for these say IOS only , but he app it uses is available for android as well and this one in the link i posted say it does work with android, most other say no android
the fire 7 i feel is a good shot since it does not have any fancy 3.55mm jack maybe the phones that don't work are because their jacks have mic support through the jack?
can anyone figure out why it would work with some phones and not others by looking at the list of supported devices in the link i provided and maybe tell if the fire 7 uses a similar jack as the list of supported devices or one that is the same as the listed devices that are specifically stated as not working?
I think for under 5 bucks, it's worth buying just to test yourself!

i know the thing is that there are so many that look nearly identical but have different brand names
5 or 6 bucks yes, some are nine or ten, and i know i will be protected by ebay or amazon the thing is that i would like to know if there is a dimes worth a difference between them all and if someone has already had a good experience with a particular one, i am not going to order the 10 or 15 different variations and test them all , just wondering if anyone has one , the fire 7 is a great device to use as a remote i use it for my other sony tv and my receiver both have wifi control apps and for my hue lights ,but there are a couple of things i can't control like my cable box and my old plasma tv
i am still swimming in remotes this thing would be a big help

Yeah I see your concern. Good luck in your search, sorry I can't help. Update if you ever figure it out though!
ok my IR emitter came in the mail today ,tested it on my iphone 1st, it didn't work on my panasonic TV but it works on my comcast motorola cable box and my LG air conditioner
then i tried it on the fire tablet ,the device is detected the headphone icon shows in resurrection remix rom
the zaza remote app says not compatible with your device in the app store so i downloaded it through blackmart and it installed
the android version is completely different from the IOS vesion
i tried to set it up to work with the cable box but i had no luck at all
i wonder why it won't work when the emitter is in it shows up as headphones plugged in ,i wonder if this app could be modified to work or if there is another app that works with this particular emitter ,this app kinda sucks a major brand like panasonic should have a working code, i cant even get power button working after going through all codes, the learning feature is useless and the forum is all in chinese, thought i cant see how this little thing could be used to detect IR signals i thought it was just a IR LED, when i try the learning feature it does not always detect the signal from the remote and sometimes it says signal detected when i have not even pressed any button on the remote some times it delays and don't say detected signal for minutes but every time it does and i try to play it back it never works
It is possible the jack on the fire is simply not passing enough voltage or is not passing it consistently enough. Many of these little IR dongles like this include a small button battery and transistor to make them work because of this common issue. Or it could legitimately be an issue with either the fire's hardware/firmware drivers specifically, or all of android in general if there is that much difference between the android and ios versions of the app.
If you don't have enough power for IR LED you can use VIPER4Android to amplify signal.

Hey guys,
I have purchased a LG phone, it's a Mediatek 8-core CPU-based K10 (2017 phone) with pretty mediocre specs for current games, but more than able to run those good-old Android games such as Modern Combat 4 and 3, as well as older MOGA-Compatible games. But I no longer own a Moga controller, as I did not enjoy placing my phone on top of a controller, I just don't like it for ergonomic reasons.. anyway, back to the issue at hand:
I'd like to play these games once again, bought myself a Saitake STK-7007X controller from Aliexpress, but the seller sent me a STK-7007F1. Anyway, it's not a Moga controller, and because of that it only works partially with Moga-compatible games (for Modern Combat, it only shoots and reloads, left and right stick don't work).
I was told by a friend he managed to workaround that using his Ipega controller, with the app ipega game center, but I'm guessing this could only work with Ipega devices.
Is there a way to make my controller work with a fake MOGA driver, so that my games understand its commands?
By that, I mean making my controller be identified as a Moga device that just works with the game, without relying on the Moga Pivot app.
If it could be done without rooting my device, it'd be better, as I'm not planning on rooting it just yet. I've got business data on it.
It's nearly impossible to request for a game dev to support Generic HID controllers, devs won't do that.
If the solution I'm asking for isn't possible, how did you manage to make your Moga-supported Android game to work with your non-Moga device? Suggestions are welcome! But then again, as long as it doesn't require root, purchasing another controller or giving up and go for a Switch instead
Thanks in advance!
