Just cracked my screen - Lenovo Phab 2 Pro Questions & Answers

FYI, get a case for your phab 2 pro.
I got my phone on Wed. It fell out of my pocket jacket as I was getting in my car. Normally it would be in my back pant pocket if I'm walking around. No case, and now cracked screen. I'm guessing no gorilla glass on this phone?
I'm coming from a Note 4, that I dropped numerous times without a case, and have yet to crack my screen. Only scruffs and scratches. I was debating between the phab 2 pro and xiaomi mi mix. The mi mix looked so delicate, and the phab 2 pro is built like a tank. I guess the heavy weight doesn't help if you drop your phone.
I liked the phone. huge screen. good battery life. almost stock android experience. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.

Me, too. But Lenovo is not making my "usual" easy. No accessories (case, screen protector, etc.) offered with the release of the phone! I was looking at Lenovo tablets and they offer cases and screen protectors at a discount when ordered with the tablet!!! Seems like any accessories I could find (on Amazon) are available either November 30th or 17th...
I'm so sorry that you're phone already broke! That shouldn't happen to anyone! I am sure that it's too soon to get anyone who can fix it... But I hope that you can soon...
Lenovo warranty wouldn't cover drops and spills... Well, the SquareTrade Warranty I have on my Note 3 doesn't either... Only mechanical problems...

Oh no, I feel sorry for your loss
Hopefully this doesn't mean the lp2p has a poor design for robustness
Gorilla glass is very hard to scratch but can be brittle. Metal frames don't absorb impacts like a decently thick plastic body.

My Plan B is a Xiaomi Mi Max 4GB 128GB phone. They have some really good cases for it but no good screen protectors. The only reason I am hesitating is because I had a Huawei Mediapad X2 7" screen which I loved. Except that I got horrible MMS service from... So yesterday I read every post on my Plan B and one person posted that his phone was doing things with MMS that my X2 had done... I think that would happen to me with any non-USA released phone... So I HAVE to get this Phab 2 Pro!

They have some cases. Sucks the screen broke. Screen protectors don't help for falls. Damage happens to the frame of the phone so the glass breaks.

P2P does not have gorilla glass, according to this comparison with Xiaomi Mi Max. I hope that's wrong. http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Xiaomi-Mi-Max,Lenovo-Phab-2-Pro/phones/10044,10108
edit: Then, this site says gorilla glass, just gorilla glass, not 2, 3, 4 or 5. http://www.gsm-specs.com/lenovo-phab-2-pro/ or this site http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/smartphones/phab-series/phab2-pro/ Would expect GG 4, like other phones right about now.

the phab 2 pro is so darn heavy, that any fall is probably detrimental to the huge glass screen. Just unfortunate that it was in a parking lot and not a soft carpet to land on. It's still usable. I'll just get a glass protector and tape over it so the pieces won't fall off. I hate using cases because it makes a huge phone even bigger. Oh well, lesson learned. I doubt a mi mix would have survived the fall either.

The P2P cases they show on Amazon are not for the P2P. You can see in the pictures that the holes do not match up in the back. There's only ONE case on Amazon that looks right - and it's not available until November 17!!!
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

this site also says gorilla glass, just not which type
http://smartphones.specout.com/l/6402/Lenovo-Phab-2-Pro

I bought this, but it really only helps with the slippery body of the phone. It wouldn't help the phone survive any drops that would damage a caseless phone. I'm looking forward to something a little more substantial, along the lines of a Seidio case.
It's just a straightforward TPU case. Nothing much to it.

THAT is the only case I saw on Amazon that looked right. I don't think that it would offer much protection from anything but scratches on the body of the phone and make the phone feel less slippery. I am hoping some manufacturers feel like there is enough demand for an Otterbox style case for this phone!

Falls are always tricky. I dropped my Nexus 6 several times, including a 12 foot drop from a ladder straight flat onto the screen, and no cracks. I let my wife borrow it until her new phone came in and it fell 2 feet from her hands and cracked the whole screen.

This case fits the P2P well, just ignore the photo on the auction.
http://r.ebay.com/F4T7oF
It has nice raised edge around the holes for the back cameras, a hole for the back mic and a flat hole for the fingerprint that makes it easy to distinguish from the wide-angle camera by feel. It adds a very little bulk and just the right amount of protection. My phone has already survived one fall 2 hardwood floor from the bed.

Thanks so much, Jeff, I just got the LAST ONE they had!!! I kept trying to order 3 and it would not let me! Then I realized that it said LAST ONE!

I just went onto ebay to try to find another case like that one... Well, I saw the original one and went back to it. It says LAST ONE and won't let you order more than 1 at a time but it did let me order 2 more as long as I ordered and paid for them one at a time... It said LAST ONE each time...

XO Skins

Well, I received my XO skin screen protector today that I bought with my 55% off coupon code. But it turns out, they actually sent me the screen protector AND back protector, for the same price of $6. This happen to anyone else? But yeah. Loving it so far. Haven't turned on my phone yet, I did cringe a bit at the amount of application fluid entering the speakers. Hope everything is okay So far, I haven't noticed any orange peel texture on the protectors. They don't have too much friction, so it's not like you're sliding your finger across a piece of rubber. It does repel fingerprints like they claim they do. I think the screen protector IS worth the normal price of $12. So yeah, I give it a big thumbs up.

I got mine too. It's VERY good quality to my surprise. I also bought the XtremeGuards ones and XO is much better in quality. It doesn't have the "orange peel" effect and just feels smoother as your swipe across the screen.
Anyways, you'll love it and good luck!
i've used XO before on my OG Evo4G and it was great! no yellowing or nothing however I'm also considering tempered glass screen protectors like SGP'S GLAS.t... so which one would be better? and why?

I'd say stick with XO. Tempered Glass seems to peel off over time. Plus it's wayyyyy more expensive. But if you have the spare cash then you can give Tempered Glass a shot.

I got the full body one and its..... full body lol... jkjk so for the front it covers 99% the whole front glass, and for the back it have some gaps between the camera and the protector, and the speaker and camera. For the case fit I heard that it's smaller in size to leave space for say like bumpers or cases
Just got a front cover in the mail, waiting to see if I can live with the buzzing before I apply it.
Applied mine in the bathroom last night (heard steam from a shower helps prevent dust?).
How long should I leave it? Been about 12 hours now. As the OP said, the only concern is the amount of fluid you get in the speaker.
The fit was perfect, measured right down to the mm. I might due to human error be a tiny bit off, but it's lined up as well as I'll probably get it without being obsessive.
I ordered the full body one before the Nexus 4 was released.. Love the product except my back piece doesnt have the speaker cut out. Contacted them twice and have been told that there should be 2 on my at no cost but we will see
You really don't have to leave the phone off for long. Just really light use for a day to not let it heat unevenly

I just applied mine and left it for an hour. Then I turned my phone on to check my speaker. They're perfectly fine But yeah, I only left it off for 1 hour, and it was already solid on it. But it was probably still drying a bit more.
Mines has dried with some streaks. Best way to describe are thin say 0.5cm horizontal lines, which reflect colours in certain light. Instructions say streaks should go away in 24-48 hours, its been over 24 and they're not budging yet.

Dirt cheap dry screen protector

I found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Clear-Scr...oth-for-LG-Nexus-4-E960-Google-/350672535192?
it's only $1.95 for 6 dry screen protectors with free expedited shipping in the US. I know it's not the best out there but I personally hate the draggy feeling of wet applicators.

I had always used dry ones before on my previous phones. They were all fine and each lasted about a month before scratches started to show and I just replace it with another one
I currently have Skinomi. I liked it but it's already showing signs of stretches and unhealed marks/dents.

No cutout for proximity sensor could be a problem. Maybe that's why they're so cheap. Then again at $2 for 6, I have a feeling even the cheapest wet protector will feel better than those

I've always used wet apply protectors (6 different phones, and 3 tablets). No problems so far. I think you'd end up with more water in your device while talking on the phone in the rain than with applying wet protectors. Then again I also use distilled water which has lower conductivity than tap.
Here's my experience using a high quality (SGP) screen protector vs cheap ebay ones :
Im currently using SGP dual (front & back) ultraclear for about a month and although its a bit of a fingerprint magnet, so far there are no visible scratches on the protectors. Seems like it holds up pretty well against all the rubbings in my jacket pocket this past month. SGP claims of its material hardness was proven since there are no scratches at all so far :good:. And I thought all screen protectors are made equal...until I was proven wrong a couple of weeks ago..
I helped a housemate bought and install cheap dry application screen protectors on ebay for his samsung exhibit II phone. They are cheap (6 for $1.95), but it took 3 trials for me to finally be satisfied with the result as the first 2 trials resulted in scratches on the protectors when I was squeegee-ing the bubbles. I did not use a squeegee on the 3rd trial and just pushed the bubbles out using my fingers. as a result some of the bubbles are trapped (but went away after a couple of days). However, upon closer look, some of the protector edges are not flat, resulting on lifting on the edges. The thing just looks plain ugly.
So, my advise is stay away form the cheap protectors...you may get lucky with a hi quality protectors but odds are youre going end up with a lo quality ones (hence the low price). They are also prone to scratches. Yeah with the cheap ones, you can change it monthly but since the process of applying a protector takes about 1-2 hour for me, I prefer to install it once and be happy about it for the rest of the cellphone's life...
PS : BTW, the one you posted doesnt have a proximity sensor cutout...

I have gone through quite a bit of smartsphone.. each of them I been applying different type of screen protector to try them out.
It really depends on how *cheap* they are...
I purchase 4 for $1.50 on ebay.. they feel as premium as those $14 for 2 high quality one (sgp)
but they do get scratches much more easily than high quality one.
And even if you manage to not get scratches on them, they tend to get worn out in the middle due the swiping ..

Are you sure you didn't put it on backwards? Weirdly enough that's what I was about to comment on, it does seem to mess with the proximity sensor, as the screen will remain black during calls.

This case looks badass. But it really urges not to submerge which is probably the only reason I'd buy a water resistant case :/
I've had the case yesterday, left it submerged in water about 1 foot deep, all night! With some tissue paper inside and no water got in.
The case is cheaply built hence the price, and you can barely hear through the ear piece, but works OK on speaker phone. Only wanted it as an occasional case if I know I'm going to be in a wet environment. In the meantime I'll be waiting for UK supplier for SUPCASE waterproof.

Did you ever get to use it underwater? Did you shoot any video? I would like to use this at a water park. I bought the ghostek for my note 4 & it appeared to be working fine. However, I recently caught it leaking water in a 4th test I conducted. When I submerged it, I immediately noticed tiny bubbles escaping from the flip cover at the bottom. My Spen was wet. Now, I am hesitant to use it as a cheap alternative to a GoPro. Also, the responsiveness of the screen underwater is very hit or miss. Very difficult to get the camera button to operate. Thanks in advance.
Yes I've used it underwater pleanty of tines. Never leaked. Only thing that annoys me is the ****ty sound that comes with all underwater cases

First time dropped any phone on parking lot pavement =(

Just dropped my S7 Edge getting out the car flat on the face and heard the loud sound of gorilla glass you are familiar with in drop test videos. The screen is fine with just a few sand grain sized scratches where the ridged rock pavement hit.
First time I've scratched a new device the first week. My soul died a little inside. Lucky this screen still feels smooth and only when looking for the scratches can I see them and I can't feel them with my finger nail without effort.
sorry to hear that, I have been using those wet install screen protectors just incase
I heard they made the glass stronger but its more likely to get scratches
Wear it with pride. Your phone just has some character now.
Some ugly character, but mine slipped out my pocket when I sat down on some steps. Hit left corner, I know the next day I went and got an otterbox symmetry for it!

Well 2014 i had preordered my galaxy note 4 and got it a week early. The next day i dropped it and cracked the screen lol. At the time no cases were available so i was out of luck

Whenever I drop a device I just pick it up without looking at it and just put it in my pocket and check it out later when I cooled down
Dropped mine yesterday for the first time. Literally from about 2 feet just sitting in a chair. I'm so pissed.
Oh my I hope you have some kind of insurance for that. Sorry that looks very bad with that amount of damage I don't think the water resistance will work.
Use a case, these are fragile phones and before you get into the it takes away from the beautiful design...blah blah look at the picture two posts above.

Ouch!
Yeah I totaled my phone about two weeks ago, already got a replacement tho. I'm now sporting a zagg screen protector and otterbox case. One interesting thing I noticed was that despite my screen having many cracks in it there wasn't a single scratch on the glass. So the glass is much more scratch proof than before
IQ Shield is a clone of Zagg at half the price. I can't tell the difference between the two products. I'm happy with the Spigen premium bumper case I got for my S7e also.

My Zagg shield keeps popping out from the top because of my case. Not the best fit in my opinion I would of muched rather have seen the whole screen covered. But I'm learning not to give a Sht. Just ordered the "super chrome" slickwrap for my silver S7 edge. Man it gone blind some motorists. At least now it will protect the back glass while looking even glossier. I'm a shiny guy

The case I have doesn't interfere with the screen protector. The important thing about applying those Zagg like screen protectors is the surface must be 100% free of oil and grease from handling.
I have always used skinomi, and i always will. That is all.
My Zagg shield is yellowish...ew

I had a Spigen case for the S7E (and a shield I had not installed yet) and managed to drop it off front porch. From5 feet it fell another 1-2 feet and bounced off wood step then bounce off of down-sloping cement walkway into the grass. It did not make contact with the glass, and did not even scratch the case. Took the phone out, and no damage to the body at all.
The phone out of the case is very slippery, so was surprised when this happened. Dropped it the same way I broke a screen on a Note 2 a few years back - taking a picture. In that instance, I was reimbursed full price by AMEX, even though it could be (and was) repaired. I had paid full price at that time for the phone.
This time I am doing the 24 month payment plan (for two phones) - and after almost smoking it, I did some thinking. I had paid a down-payment on one, and was getting ready to make the first payment through BOA e-billing and realized I needed to also pay the first three months with the same AMEX card in case I had a claim during the 90 reimbursement period. In this case, they would reimburse the amount I had paid and pay the rest directly to Tmo.(or maybe to a repair shop if they insist on going that way).
So for any other butter fingered owners who bought it with the payment plan and with a credit card with a replacement period guarantee - make sure you pay at least the monthly amount due for the device during that period covered with the same card. Just to be safe, I just paid TMo 3 months on both devices separate from my regular payment.
Still can't believe I dropped it - thank you Spigen! And better bet the scree protector on soon.
I am still thinking of selling it and getting a 935FD on eBay (damn you Samsung for locking the bootloader). Getting it paid by insurance would be easier, but I will not deliberately do that. But still have 2 more months of coverage....

Do you use a screen protector?

Hi,
I've always used a screen protector on all my previous phones, i only take it off when i'm about to upgrade.
I can seem to find a good one for the galaxy s8 so i'm considering going without one.
Those who don't use screen protectors, are there any scratches on your phones?
Thank you!

This glass scratches easily for me. I went about 2 weeks without one. Being very careful I still found very small scratches.... Can't really see them without looking at a certain angle but definitely there. Go with an armorsuit wet apply. Just take your time putting it on and let it rest over night. Applied it with good pressure and it came out perfect for me. Don't even notice I have one. No lifted edges eaither.

My phones don't scratch. I don't really need a case or a screen protector, but there were times when I would put a matte screen protector(ArmorSuite) to eliminate fingerprint smudges. I don't keep my phones long enough to warrant buying accessories for it.

You can of course buy screen protector, it won't do harm to your device. It of course depends how well you take care of devices. For example one of my friends drops phones a lot or just while talking may hit it against some object(not on purpose). If my screen doesn't get scratched, I don't see a point in buying one. The longest I have used a phone is for 6 month(many years ago) and after that all of my phones were used no more than 3 months.

I don't want you to get an impression that I am rich Basically what I do is: Buy a good phone of my choice(I buy mostly used in excellent condition), use it for few months and when you see something you like, sell it(I sell on eBay), then purchase another model with the money you got from selling your previous phone - this continues for many years. Just take good care of the phone(no scratches, marks...) and if you don't use accessories that came with your phone, then it is even better and you can get better price.

That's... A very good idea.
I personally don't bother with the screen protectors. I know some people swear by them though which is understandable as well

I am using and wasted almost sgd150 on many screen protectors.
I tried without for few days. Scratches are visible. Good to get protected.
I never saw the point in a screen protector. Gorilla glass is really hard to scratch. My s5 after over 2 years of heavy use only had a few very minor scratches, and the screen on the s8 is even less scratchable. Unless you regularly use sandpaper to navigate your phone, you shouldn't need a screen protector.

Lol on the sandpaper. Ive had my s8+ since April 19th and so far just two dry minute scratches, unnoticeable unless very close inspection.

I've had my S8 since it launched and I don't have a physical screen protector on it. All of my previous devices had glass screen protectors on them. Since this phone has curves I didn't bother with one. The TPU protectors I can't stand because they dent soo easily, and for me it's worse than having scratches on the glass. I have very minimal scratches that can only be seen in certain lighting which don't bother me at all. I decided to buy the Woosh Diamond Defence liquid screen protector after the scratches appeared to help reduce future scratches (also applied some on my camera lens). I've had it on for about a month and no new scratches have appeared (that I can see) so far.
I have a case. I tried a protector but like normal I got annoyed and threw it away. No scratches and I've had it for about 4 months now. I hate screen protector they make the phone look worse than if they had scratches so what's the point? It's like when people cover there couch with those ugly ass plastic covers.

This is the same screen protector I use on my S8+ and I have not had any issues with it at all
i'll be applying the Spigen Neo Flex to mine because people seem to have trouble with glass
i've noticed a tiny tiny scratch on the screen and my pockets are always empty
Anyone else kept that plastic protector that came installed on the phone?

This is the kind of thing that scares me. My Note 4 has seen heavy use for almost three years now and the glass is utterly flawless. Lot of these S8 threads have replies like "Oh I've had it a couple months it only has a few scratches on it."
I've always used glass screen protectors on my phones and it's kept them immaculate, but I've tried two diff types of glass ones on my S8+ and I just cannot get them to stay on for any length of time, so I'm going without which sucks, but what can you do?
