Hi everyone
i am new to rooting and all those stuff
so i want to root my device but i don't want to downgrade it to 4.4.4 because one of my friends did and from then he lost signal on his phone
so he can't make anymore calls so if someone can give me an step by step guide i will really appreciate it

Why not Odin back to KitKat? I do it with the S4, S5, Note 3.... it worked. Try it.
If ur on 5.1 you cant roll back ur Bootloader nor can you downgrade back to KK

Probably you can only downgrade to MM, in any case you can try downgrading to KK and see if it's possible, if not then have MM stock ready...

Soft brick, you'll need to reflash stock MM.
Just do some more homework in the S5 thread before you're doing anything. Don't take my words as guaranteed!

The issue that I don't know which firmware is the right one to upgrade, so shall I have to downgrade v4.4 and upgrade to another firmware of Lollipop and then upgrade to Marshmallow.

Try any KitKat firmware according to your model and build number...
Yes it will erase everything..
