Battery Care charge - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

I'm wondering if anyone has the issue of the battery care charge not reaching 100% before unplugged. I sleep about the same time and wake up the same time but it always needs longer to reach full capacity, so I unplug the charger and a warning appears that I did before it fully charged. How do I adjust the timing so it's fully charged when I wake up, and not 30 minutes after?

It is supposed to figure that out on its own. I have not seen any way to adjust it manually.

[Q] Charges to 100% then settles at 97% while still charging?

So I plugged my GN in last night and stayed up late enough to see it reach 100%, but I left it charging all night. When I woke up this morning, the lock screen said Charged but my battery widget said 97%. This has happened a few times and every time I can fix it by just unplugging it and plugging it back in. Anyone know why it does this? Could it be because I get lots of emails at night and the LED running all night decreases the battery a little? Thanks!
I think it stops charging when it reaches 100%, therefore the 3% may be lost during that time. This is a good thing, because a laptop, or anything else, eventually the battery will go bad. When you unplug it, then plug it back in, it can cause that battery to go bad faster. Again, I think this is it. My phone seems to do that. I would not worry about it though.

[Q] CM10 not charging past 90%

I'm running the 12/28 CM10 nightly, and I'm having an issue with charging my battery. When the phone is on, the battery charges normally to 90%, at which point the LED changes from red to green, indicating full charge. If I leave it plugged in, the phone continues to charge to 100. However, the battery doesn't really charge past 90 because once I begin to use it the charge drops really quickly down to 90. Similarly, if I restart the phone, even if it said 100 before, when it is on again it says 90. I have had this issue with previous CM10 nightlies as well. It is a software issue, because if I turn the phone off and charge it, it charges to 100.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

This is the intended bahavior. The type of battery used in phones last longest when they say between 80% and 20% of charged. So your phone will pull the maximum amount of power it can until it hits 90% then reduce power draw to a trickle charge.
The rapid drop is power is often the chip in the battery lying that it is fully charged when it is not. That is why you may see a rapid decline to 90% where your battery drain will go back to normal.
You might also see the phone telling you that it has 15% power then turning off. Upon reboot it will say it's at 0% or 1% that also is the battery trying to protect it self from damage.
This is a simplified explanation of how all phones work these days. The only difference you'll notice is how good the software is designed to lie to you about the power level. If it's good you won't notice these types of anomalies but they are still there.
Have you wiped battery stats?

Thanks for that informative answer. So I take it that means there would be no performance difference between turning my phone off, charging it, and then using it (with it saying 100%) vs leaving it on, charging it to 90% (green LED turns on) and then using it?

Is the first charge on the Nexus 5 still as important as a few years ago? Or is the N5's Li-Ion battery not as sensitive as Li-Po batteries?
I always used to plug in a new before booting them up, charge the battery completely and then unplug it. When the charge went down to about 5%, I plugged it back in. I always did that two or three times and then - while still trying to do it like that all the time - allowed myself to charge the device for a few minutes only when it was necessary instead of plugging it in and leaving it at home.
Well, on the N5, I didn't manage that - I actually forgot to monitor the battery level yesterday evening before going to bed. This morning, I noticed that the battery had reached 1% during the night and the N5 shut itself down.
Of course, I did now plug it back in, but I wonder if I could have damaged the battery by letting it run down to 1% on the first charging cycle? Or doesn't this matter at all and it will still reach its full capacity after a few charging cycles?

I wouldn't worry about it, running a battery to empty is indeed bad but they don't allow you to run it to empty. It is programmed to show 1% and shut down before the battery itself is at 1% to prevent you from damaging it.
Use your phone, when charge is about 20% connect your charger and do not disconect until reaches the 100%.
This is what i have done with mine.
I have reached 2 days standby with about 3 hrs of screen on time.

Z5 battery loses charge when left charging at "100 %"

I have noticed that when i plug my Z5 in to charge overnight, it will charge to full in just a few hours and then remain plugged in for the next ~6 hours until i unplug the phone 'fully charged" in the morning.
My theory is that the phone loses charge (maybe to protect the battery?) when left plugged in at full charge.
I will only get 3 hours SOT max if i leave my phone charging overnight. But if i unplug my Z5 as soon as it is fully charged i get 5 + hours SOT.
Also, often when i plug my phone into charge at 1 or 2 %, it sometimes actually causes my battery to die, before the phone boots again and starts to charge. Does anyone else notice this?
I am using the stock sony UCH 20 charger with came with my Z5.
What do you guys think?
That does sound peculiar. It should be noted that while it is normal for the phone to protect the battery by cycling between 90% and 100% when plugged in (battery gauge doesn't account for this, that's why it appears full all the time), it definitely shouldn't cause a 40% difference in SOT even if you happened to unplug when the battery is at 90 percent.
Yes, you're right. Once the battery is charged to 100%, the phone stops charging and will let the battery drop to around 92% and once it hits 92% it will start charging again to 100%. Even if you unplug the phone when it's showing 100% after charging at night, it might actually be charged to 93% for example. That's why very often people complain that the first 10% of the battery drops very quickly, while in fact it's just the battery meter catching up with the battery charge. This is done to protect the battery and ensure it retains charge after many cycles.
Regardless of that, the difference should not be that huge. For me it's usually extra 30 minutes SOT.
It seems the stock firmware has a load of random wakelocks but I have hope that a soon to come update will fix most of the issues, if you are rooted I suggest that you use greenify or amplify (reqires xposed)

Stop charging at XX %

I spend a lot of the day with my phone tethered acting as a hotspot with unmetered data for my laptop, so the battery would drain very quickly if the phone was not plugged in. But at the same time, this means that I'm constantly plugged in and maintaining my battery at 100%, or if I return after a meeting or lunch, I'd be constantly charging from 80% back to 100%. I understand that both practices (keeping the battery at 100% and charging the last 20%) are not good for the battery. Since I usually have access to a charger, I don't really need to be charged to maximum battery capacity most of the time.
Is there any way to get the Pixel 2 XL to stop charging beyond 80% ?
Searches led me to https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...oid-device-avoid-excess-battery-wear-0176280/ That tells me to set /sys/class/power_supply/battery/charging_enabled to 0 to see if it charging stops.
But my Pixel 2 doesn't have /sys/class/power_supply/battery/charging_enabled. It has /sys/class/power_supply/battery/charge_disable instead, but setting this to 1 does not seem to stop charging. So it seems unlikely that Battery Charge Limit.apk would work. Does it work for anyone else?
This is wrong lithium-ion batteries are designed to be topped off, they last the longest staying above 30%.
My understanding is that these are not good for battery lifespan:
- charging the top 20%. I.e. charging from 80-100% uses up more charge cycles than 40-60%
- keeping the battery constantly at 100%. I.e. storing at 50% is better than storing at 100%
Are these inaccurate?
And, is there a way to limit charging to xx %?
