Does it have the "knock-on" feature from LG phones? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hello,
Does the pixel have this feature or is it possible to obtain it?
For those that are curious what this is, you can double tap on your phone's screen and it will immediately turn on. Sames goes for turning it off. This is one of the few things I don't think I am ready to give up.
Thanks!

You can add it with a custom kernel. Honestly though, I don't miss it (still have my g4 actually), as I always use the fingerprint reader to turn on and unlock.

It will be helpful sometimes. For instance when the phone is laying flat on your desk, table, whatever. You have to pick it up to hit the fingerprint scanner. Knock to wake has been promised by google in a future update.

Yes Elemental X kernel supports this. It works perfectly!

Interesting. This may become my sole reason for rooting...

You can use the Ambi-Turner app for wave to wake. Works 100% for me actually.

Elemental X kernel without root gives you swipe up to wake, and swipe on nav bar for sleep

Does it work 100% of the time or do you ever find it not responding properly? I'm especially curious to hear how well it works after the phone has been untouched for a while and Dose has kicked in.
EDIT: Just flashed EX kernel and enabled sweep to wake/sleep and have to say it's working perfectly with absolutely no lag. Very happy to have this feature on my Pixel.

[MOD] Dim/Turn Off/Default Capacitive Buttons - Any firmware version

Here's a mod for dimming the capacitive buttons (you know, the 3 buttons at the bottom of your phone) which I feel are way too bright at the default settings.
To use this mod, your boot.img requires init.d support (most ROMs for the One X have this already) and obviously custom recovery to flash the mod.
The mod works by setting /sys/devices/platform/msm_ssbi.0/pm8921-core/pm8xxx-led/leds/button-backlight/currents to "1"
Installation:
Download the appropriate file below and flash via recovery:
Dim capacitive leds: http://www.androidfilehost.com/main...ge/KingCobra1X/Tweaks/Dim_Capacitive_Leds.zip
Turn off capacitive leds: http://www.androidfilehost.com/main...ngCobra1X/Tweaks/Turn_Off_Capacitive_Leds.zip
Stock/Default capacitive leds: http://www.androidfilehost.com/main.../KingCobra1X/Tweaks/Stock_Capacitive_Leds.zip
Awesome, you guys just keep making it better and better

I'm pretty sure you just remove the script from /system/etc/inid.d/
Does this turn them off completely or only slightly dim them, so that they are still visibly lit but just less so?

Well, it is called "Dim capacitive buttons"
If you anyone actually wants them turned off, I can post one as well.

They turn on just enough so you know they're on.

Ha, nice point. I already use Adjbrightness to turn them off completely in the dark, didn't want to do anything unnecessary… I flashed it and it works great. Although my home button looks almost…. green…

To go back to stock navigate to system/etc/init.d and delete the file named 50DimLeds and reboot and you'll be back to stock

OP UPDATED: Added option to turn off capacitive lights and another to restore to stock/default settings (deletes 50DimLeds file)
Thank you for this mod. I use my phone as a bedside clock at night and the capacitive buttons stay on all the time. Glad to have something that will turn them off because they are too damn bright.
Well, this is odd. I'm noticing that my lights stay on all the time now...even when the screen is off and when it's obviously bright enough for them to turn off on their own. With the screen off, the buttons ARE disabled like normal, the lights just stay on though.
I don't know whether this was a problem last night when I flashed it or not.
I'm running CleanRom DE 2.1 (or whatever the latest is) with the 1.88 kernel (though the problem existed before flashing that kernel, and still persists afterwards)
EDIT: NEVERMIND! The problem resolved itself? I don't know how or why. It was persisting through reboots, a kernel flash, everything for at least the past hour of me taking notice and now it's fine again.
Is there a way to dim only one of the buttons?

Care to share your setup of bedside clock? Does the screen glow all night?
Do you have a dock?
Thanks turge! Flashed in about a minute and works perfectly never realized how bright they were until now. Looks great!

Is there a way to keep other gestures on but turn off double tap to wake?

I am quickly finding that double tap to wake may be too sensitive for me. I am constantly finding my phone awake without intentionally trying to turn it on. Is there a way to either just turn off that one gesture or drop the sensitivity?
Thanks
Z
I don't know but i need it also.
I found that the other gestures were the ones waking my phone and double tap was the only good one. Just swiping across the screen when it's off shouldn't unlock the phone. I can't stand those gestures.

Ditto for me, but it seems like an all or nothing deal. I could be wrong though, and I hope someone will eventually figure out how to disable the others, but until then I enabled a pattern lock so it'll stop getting unlocked accidentally.

I like the gestures, but I'm the same, double tap to wake is great. And the Swype gestures are good too, but I have a problem with Them. I can't even clean my screen without the phone coming on. And installing the screen protector, I had to turn it off completely.

you can Disable other Gestures in Motion and Gestures settings. . ?
other then Double Tap i always found every other gesture kind of "useless"

KnockOn substitute

I came from the G2, and loved knock on. The M8 has motion launch, but with that its all or nothing, you enable all the gestures or you get none at all. Is there a way to get a more knock on like feature?

Not quite. It works only when it thinks it's in portrait, and all the gestures have to be enabled. I need only tap to wake.

Go into settings , display and gestures , g sensor calibration and calibrate it poorly intentionally slanted against a book or whatnot. It'll think you're in portrait when you're not. To unable separate ones you'll need to be rooted but the xposed module sense 6 toolbox has the option to disable select ones. Hope this helps.

easy home app

Anyone using easy home app and have experience with the pro version. For those who don't know the app turns you home key into a capacitive button rather then a physical button. I don't know for sure but I've read that it supports the N5, S6, S6E, and S6E+. I have also read about N4, and S5 users using it. I really like the app and it works well. I really missed my OnePlus 2 home button.

Did you know that if you use the app you described you will no longer be able to
use the fingerprint security function unless you uninstall the app or totally disable it.
Good luck,

I'm not quite sure I understand. When I try to bypass my lockscreen with any other fingers then I have setup in the fingerprint settings it will not unlock and prompts me to enter a backup password. So I'm not sure if they have fixed thas issue but lockscreen fingerprint login and last pass fingerprint login seem to be working fine for me.

You are 100% wrong and shouldn't mislead other people. I've been using the app since it was posted a few months ago by @Jawomo it works exactly as it should. I've been using it everyday for months with my fingerprint unlock and have never had a failed unlock.

It was really hit or miss for me. I only tried it for a few minutes, but it felt like it didn't work 100% of the time. I'll give it another shot.

How do I bypass the pin lock when I use finger print scanner to unlock the screen?

I want to use fingerprint scanner without having to also input the pin code. Is this possible?
It is only when you reboot, and haven't seen a mod like that for the lat two phones.

Under security you can change it so you don't have to type pin in when you boot phone up

Screenshot? I don't see that option.. I don’t think he's referring to the bootup pin, it's the lockscreen pin once it has booted

Correct. I want to use the fingerprint security without having to use the pin.
It seems to me that the fingerprint scanner is rather useless if you still have to use your pin, or pattern.

This is only after a reboot, there you have to type your pin one time, I afterwards just the fingerprint.
For the complete use if fingerprint you have to wait for a custom rom that has is built in.
If also noticed that after a certain amount of time you have to type pin in I remember seeing it saying something along the lines of you could stop pin after reboot but I think that might have been the s8+ I don't have to type pin in if I turn off the u11
.
My fingerprint scanner works fine and I only need to use the pin on reboot.
I however also use Extended Controls and have a Lock button on there. When I use that I have to put in my pin with my fingerprint.
I think its something to do with the way the apps "lock" the phone as I believe other people with other phones have a similar issue as well.
When the phone locks itself or if I push the power button to lock it, fingerprint works fine by itself.

I now have that mod in my ROM
So, after reading a little more online, it appears that Android's unlocking with fingerprint only will NOT tolerate any other app input. I may have to give up on my beloved AC Display app, which would display notifications briefly. I also use Gravity Screen app, but it has a setting that (hopefully) makes it more compatible. I've never rooted a phone before, and I'm not thrilled with starting now, given the hassles of OTA updates, etc.
We'll see what happens . . .

I know this but it take 5~10 seconds to really turn off screen because of Android security.
During these seconds... If you touch soft buttons screen turns on.
Very annoying

Yes, with this program it will take 5 seconds to fully turn off the screen.
...and I confirm you have to be careful with home and multitasking buttons, but with time you will get accustomed to.
This is the 1st smartphone I am keeping full stock (messing with them since HTC Windows mobile devices) and as of now this is the best program I have found...
I am missing long press home button to turn off the screen, like OnePlus devices
