Remove "android system webview"? - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Can I remove the "android system webview" app since I never use? thanks!

If you are rooted, make a backup, then use titanium backup to freeze it.
Then you can see if it causes any issues. If you get a lots of FC's or any apps start misbehaving then just unfreeze it.
If you get a bootloop restore your backup.
That's the best way to see if you can delete any app that you are unsure about.
However, you may use this app more than you think, its used to allow apps to open web pages within the app itself as opposed to opening a browser.

Be ready to say good bye to your chrome performance and web based google apps....

[Q] Captivate on Froyo 2.2

Only problem I have is that after I backed up on Back up pro like I always do & works fine, That it will not find the files, Would not restore for that reason, Im not to happy with the FROYO 2.2 thing, other than that it works good & fast.
Can some one help me on how to restore after the update
???
I had the same issue....Back Up Pro could not find the apps. But I chalked it up to a different ROM. and reinstalled my apps the old fashioned way. I have since learned to list ny Apps so when I find the paid ones they will install.
So Im really worried about the data ? How can I get that, Is there another back up app better ? thats whats bothering me.
Use Titanium Backup. It now works with Froyo on the Captivate. Another option, for apps only, is to get an Appbrain account and sync your apps with Appbrain. That way, if the worst happens at least you can reinstall from there, but you won't have the data.

AppBrain has been brilliant for app restores for me. That is one thing I always hated about flashing roms/doing resets, and although you still have to click through the permissions, it works great. The fast web installer is awesome too...
yeah i just use appbrain
Titanium Backup is Better
TB (Titanium Backup) is better to use because it can restore not just the app, but the data and settings as well. All AB (Appbrain) does is perform a reinstall of the app minus any data you may have created with the app.
A good example would be your email app. With TB you would get back all your email configuration and settings. While with AB, you would have to go through the process of setting up your email account info all over again as well as any other config settings.
If you use LauncherPro, you know how tedious it is to set it up just the way you like. Use TB and you get it back just the way you left it without having to go through the lengthy customization process.

Restore apps only. Do not restore data or it could cause incompatibility and fc's.

Chainfire (edit) Darkstriker told me the same in i9000 faq thread. He seemed to think it's discussed everywhere and obvious. Well I've read through at least a couple of the most recent active threads on the topic, and certainly it is not posted everywhere and is not obvious.
Can you point to a thread detailing specific instances of problems? All the problems I've read about are with SYSTEM DATA... widegets and SMS mostly. I have not found anyone mentioning problems with normal app data.
edit: and BTW three apps failing out of a couple of hundred is a big so what.. so long as un-install and re-install of those apps fix it without messing up the whole system. I thought it's pretty hard for a single app to do too much damage to the whole system in android.

[Q] Restoring free apps automatically in Google Market after reset

I just wiped my TF101 more or less voluntarily... I have witnessed before that in Google market only my PAID apps seem to be restored automatically; is there any way to also get the free apps at least listed? I always forget which apps I had installed
Thanks everyone! Even a pointer to other threads is appreciated since I couldn't find anything.
EDIT: It is especially annoying for programs like ROM Manager and Documents To Go where the free version is required before the (paid) key can be used
Well if you use Titanium backup you can backup all your apps so when you wipe your device you can restore them all quickly and easily.
I dont use Google to backup my apps, much easier to use Titanium.
One other app that is really good is Mybackup you can backup your apps that way as well along with many other features but most are really designed for a phone.
Hope that helps

Yeah, I know. I have Ti Backup but as I stated in my post I wiped more or less voluntarily... That's why I was wondering if there is some kind of Google magic that can be used as a backup-backup So basically it was my fault to not make a Ti Backup first. Luckily, I don't have any important data on the TF!
For me it restores all my downloaded apps automatically by default, weird.
if you log onto market. android.com go under my market account and that lists everyapp you ever downloaded.

I'll check that out, thanks!
I also found an app called AppBrain App Market which apparently also stores the installed app information and can be used to sync with any given device. It's got really good reviews and is free
EDIT: I think I know what might be the reason that I do not get the free apps. When I click on the apps in market.google.com they show up as "installed" although they are not! Either I am missing a setting or it's a bug in the system!

android market won't show my purchased installed apps

a few days ago I was using Titanium Backup to unlink my apps from the android market that I had gotten from other markets so that the market would stop trying to install updates for those apps and when I did this I looked at MY APPS in the market it is now only showing a 2 boxes. 1 reads browse apps and the other browse games. It also says apps and games owned by this account will appear here. Iv'e tried using the market Dr. on TB but it won't fix it. I also tried to force close the market and wiping the data and uninstalling any market updates. I'm hoping I don't have to reset the phone completely. I've also tried fixing the permissions and rebooting into recovery. Any help would be much appreciated. Samsung Galaxy s 4g
I had this issue once before. I fixed it by logging on to market.android.com and when I did I noticed that my apps were missing from there to. I then logged off of the website and then back on and like magic all of my apps were back. I wont garuntee this as a fix but it did work for me

im having the EXACT same problem... and i even tried a full wipe and fresh install of my rom, and all 200+ apps fresh from market to restore ANY broken market links. still no dice. im on sprints epic 4g touch, found this post on google looking for info lol
i use rom toolbox pro.. no problems here
I used Titanium Backup to uninstall something called the "Market Feedback Agent". I then wiped my cache and dalvik cache and rebooted my phone. My apps showed up in the market after I did this.

EDIT
Just download this App Market Fixer by Kstudio from Android Market.
Use it to scan for offending Apps, Note that it requires active data connection. What it basically does is compare your Apps database with the online Android Market Database and then single out the offending Apps. Presently, the only solution it offers is to uninstall the Apps from your Phone which for me is unacceptable because most of them are Samsung Core System Apps like Videos, Galllery etc, you don't wanna lose your System Apps.
When the scan finish just take note of the offending Apps, it would help to write them down. Do not use their Fix tool because it will delete the Apps from your Phone or if you use REMOVE MARKET LINKS ONLY those Apps will give you FORCE CLOSE afterwards. The best option is go to Titanium Backup --> Batch --> Detach User & System Apps from Market --> Deselect all --> NOW SELECT ONLY THE OFFENDING APPS --> Run the Batch Operation --> Reboot.
After this go back to Android Market and all your Apps will be there. If It didn't work the first time, redo the whole process, maybe you missed one App.
This has 99.9% success and I believe it will work for you.
ADDITION
For those of us that Schedule Backups with TB, you have to do some tweaks to your Preferences if not; after such backups, the whole problem will come back again. This is all you have to do:
Go to Preferences --> Deselect MARKET LINK (When backing up an app, save its Market Link. Requires SQlite).
Be aware that this might happen again if you upgrade ROM or restore whole system with TB Backup, but with such Tool at hand, all it takes is less 3 minutes to fix.
Hope this is helpful
Thank you! I'll not sure exactly what I did that fixed it, but somewhere between using Market Fixer and uninstall/re-installing some apps it working again.
Note to self: stop playing with Market Doctor in TB for no good reason.
Hi
Excuse me for being somehow off topic, I'd want the opposite.
I have a few apps (Youtube & windows theme for Go launcher for example) that I hate their updates and I'd like them to not appear on market update list.
If someond knows how to do this, please PM or send a link.
I searched and couldn't find anything. 10x.

In Titanium Backup - Market Doctor will break market links.
Any free solution?

CPU usage and services in the background

Sometimes I notice my phone gets warm and when I bring up a task manager (from system tuner pro) I see the same apps are causing problems.
Pulse news reader
Amazon app store
Groupon
The thing is, if I didn’t use my phone 24/7 I would never notice these apps running because I think they close within an hr or so once it "does whatever it does" ….
But im ALWAYS on my phone - so i do notice it..
How can I disable any/all services associated with the apps – and make sure that they only run when I open the program – and the second I close them – the services stop as well not to turn back on till i open the app again?
I don’t want to run a task manager/auto kill program =(
Thank you!
ROM Cleaner should do the trick. Ask in their thread if you have problems, they are very friendly and helpful. Sorry, just reread and realized you said disable. ROM Cleaner removes the apps you don't want, including system apps. I just get rid of all the junk after flashing a new ROM and it runs cool and smooth.
To disable, use Titanium backup and freeze those apps.

[Q] The holy grail of apps

HI all,
Not too sure what to ask here,
I want to know if there is an app that will allow me to pick which apps i want to stay in memory.
In other words, stop apps from running or restarting, unless I open them, and to kill them when Im done.
Ive tried a few apps, but none seem to actually stop the app from restarting.
Running SGS i9000 Gamerzrom JB 4.2 Root
Titanium Backup Pro
Try titanium back up pro, it has the feature to convert downloaded apps to a system app. Apps converted to system app won't be killed and should keep it from restarting. For more info, search about titanium backup and converting apps to system apps.
Try using 'All in One Toolbox and go to Startup options where you can configure which apps can start on boot(needs root). You can also uninstall apps from it. It is as its name does many things and alos has a nice Home Screen widget for quick access. Try it.
Sorry forgot to mention ive been using ZDBox all in one, it has a task killer in it too.
Hard to elaborate what im looking for.
Put it this way, I want everything to stay closed until I use it, and once im done using it, for it to close and stay closed again.
Killing at startup only works on startup. If the app is set to restart then thats a wasted feature.
I dont really want to change an app into a system app as that will keep it running when the system allows it to.
Any other suggestions? there has to be an app out there that developers or memory attentive users, are using to keep their memory and cpu free.
