[Q] SGH-i896 bricked?

Hey everyone, today I tried to revert to my original stock rogers firmware via the clockwork recovery backup I made. After booting, it gets passed the i896 page and continues until it says ANDROID in a graphic image. This flashes every once in awhile. But after an hour of just leaving it, it's still in the same cycle. I can boot into recovery but when I try to install a new rom it says:
"E: Can't mount /dev/block/st19
(No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SYSTEM:
E: Failure at line 2:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
Installation aborted"
If I go into the Mounts and Storage Menu it shows that /system isn't mounted and the same error occurs if I try to mount it. If I try to do a restore from either of my clockwork backups it says the MD5 sums don't match.
As I'm fairly knew to android I'm apprehensive to go any further because I think I'll probably make it worse. I'm thinking I'll use Odin, if there aren't any other suggestions, I've just never used it before and don't have windows installed at the moment.
What do you guys think is the best course of action?
Thanks for your help.
Get yourself into download mode and flash to stock using Odin. Then root and install the rom of your choosing (I recomend Assonance)

[Q] Noob rooting and backing up (NAND) SG2 before ROM change

Hi all,
Would appreciate any assistance with this as I'm going back and forth on this topic on the net and hitting dead ends at every turn.
Firstly, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. It is ROOTED (using S2root). I have installed ROM Manager and Clockworkmod. 4.0.0.15.
I was using these instructions
*URL prevented by forum* but it was on androidpolice.com website -- to get to be able to do a full NAND backup before I screw about with anything. However, I cannot. Whenever I choose to do a full backup from rom manager my phone restarts and I get
Android System Recovery (3e)
4 options not including backup or restore (i.e. reboot, install update from sd,wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition )
and at the bottom of the screen
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
and won't go any further
I've read forum posts elsewhere on 'toggling verification on/off' but there is no option to do this in any menu, including ROM Manager's even under Advanced. I've seen other posts that show a toggle in the Clockworkmod menu but I never get there - it only restarts in Android System Recovery not Clockworkmod recovery menu.
Does anyone have any sensible suggestions that would help please?
thanks
Mark

Soft-bricked Z5 when trying to restore a TWRP backup

Hey there,
My brother was trying to install a custom ROM on his phone but it was having issues so he went to restore a TWRP backup of an AOSP ROM he had before. Unfortunately, it was a backup of every partition, including the Firmware partition. When it got to restoring Firmware, it formatted the existing firmware partition, but then immediately failed at restoring the old Firmware partition backup with the following showing in the recovery.log:
Code:
I:Extracting uncompressed tar
==> extracting: /firmware//image/ (mode 40550, directory)
tar_extract_file(): failed to set permissions on /firmware//image/ !!!
I:Unable to extract tar archive '/data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/QV7013TG03/Firm/firmware.vfat.win'
Error during restore process.
extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255
After this, any attempts to start the phone result in a bootloop. We can still get into recovery but every time we try to restore the TWRP backup it fails at firmware again. Any ideas on how to get the phone working?
EDIT: Fixed!
I fixed this a while ago but if I recall correctly, we ended up flashing the stock firmware files with Flashtool. Basically go to this thread follow the steps under Part 2 and Part 2.5, then once you've created the firmware, flash it using Flashtool --> Lightning Button --> Flashmode --> Choose the firmware you made --> Wipe Userdata (not sure if we did this or not, try without it, if it doesn't work then wipe userdata) -->Flash. That should fix it.
I have never managed to restore backup on this stupid phone. Always errors with making backup or restoring backup or not detecting storage or some other crap. Sick of it

Not able to flash Stock image with custom Recovery (TWRP 3.1.1.1.)

Hello guys,
Today I wanted to update my Honor 8 (FDR-L09) because it was showing me, that there is a new update ready to install (FRD-L09C432B405) and I was on a very old firmware (something from mid 2017). So it was time for me to update.
I downloaded the latest update (FRD-L09C432B405) and tried to wipe the cache, dalvik, and Data, but for some reason it "couldn't mount /data" and the wipe failed.
After an advanced wipe it worked and I tried to flash the stock image (the update which was shown to me (FRD-L09C432B405) with TWRP (3.1.1.1.)).
Now my hassle starts:
1. The Rom couldn't get flashed because of "Error: 7" --> I fixed it with the common "Error 7 fix --> editing the update-script and removing the assert line. (And yes, I'm 100% sure that it was the right ROM.
2. Now TWRP seemingly starts to flash the rom but inbetween the lines there is "mountencrypt: failed to mount /data: no such file or directory and it ends with "unknown command [[]" and it takes just two seconds, so the flash obviously isn't succsessfull.
I tried the "failed to mount /data" fix, where I change the data system to ext3 and then back to f2fs and change it back, but it won't work.
In my frustration I did another pretty bad thing and made another advanced wipe and wiped the system too, so now I don't have an OS on my system.
Maybe it's also important to note that there was a window showing up for a very short amount of time, with something like "encryption/encrypted" showed up.
What should I do now? Is there a way to fix the "/data couldn't be mounted" problem? Or am I missing a vital step in flashing the stock rom?
Thanks for your kind help!
You can not flash an update with twrp unless you use hurupdater. You essentially bricked your phone. Look for hurupdater here on xda and follow the instructions and you'll be fine

I am not responsible for any wrongdoing by you. Always have ROM stock files. Any error, install stock recovery again.
First you need to unlock the bootloader if necessary! Unzip file attached and look 2 files.
Then, the installation plan:
0) Flash the TWRP with SPFT or fastboot;
1) Enter TWRP IMMEDIATELY without starting in the system, otherwise TWRP can revert to the stock;
2) When asked to enter the password, select Cancel;
3) Load the file with Magisk (look for any magisk19.zip for TWRP and the decryption file for EXTERNAL memory;
4) Flash Magisk immediately and then install the file data_decrypt_Mobiistar_C1_Shine.zip immediately;
5) Make FORMAT DATA - bottom left button - Type: YES. Go back to the TWRP menu;
6) Make Wipe: data, cache, dalvik (reset to factory settings! Save your data!);
7) Reboot to TWRP (password must not ask);
8) Restart on the system, root is received.
thanks bro for making recovery.img when installing magisk 19.zip its giving error on last step failed to mount /vendor/persist (invalid argument). done
after that i tried to install your data decrypt .zip after one reboot to recovery because i have tried before without reboot recovery once so this time rebooted and installed your data.zip file and again on the last step same error as magisk failed to mount /vendor/persist (invalid argument). done
after that i tried to format by typing yes but again same error failed to mount /vendor/persist (invalid argument).done
just to inform you i have formatted phone from inside by turning it on factory reset but nothing happened....and internal space is not mounting i some how managed to install these things via OTG USB but same error again and again. i am attaching screenshot also which i captured from other phone of mine.
kindly help asap

This is Ok. I made TWRP fast and not remember if the stock partitions has \vendor\persist. So if has that's message is normal. Therefore messages about \vendor\nvdata;nvram;nvcfg is normal too. Very pacth zip files can delete that and the device cannot have IMEI.
First: Is good know the file TWRP worked;
- - You can't install any zip without FORMAT DATA first because FORMAT DATA process can view internal storage. If you don't FORMAT DATA maybe the zip file going wrong with MicroSD & OTG.
In this moment you understand: not use external storage! Put zip in the internal storage an try again.
About MTP: Has anything wrong wiht A8.1 & TWRP. Most devices with A8.1 and TWRP do not have access to MTP. I don't know what happens because I don't know why TeamWin was unable to resolve this.
Now you need put zip with adb command (search how to do) or use sileload on the TWRP.
PS: the picture attached by you show about decrypt. In the first moment you need acept modifications and password you press CANCEL.

The first start need choose the CANCEL. I think you not know about TWRP (unofficial) and the process with device/TWRP without encryption/decryption process.
If you want that so send me some device to develop/have the possibility of getting that option.

As you read, I not have your device in my hands!
Many 32bits and few 64bits devices have problem with touch screen from kernel. That's not my error! It's from device company.
I not know about touch screen work or not since copvaibhav not write about. But I won't fix this. There is also the possibility to use OTG and plug in a USB Mouse to use in TWRP.
There are solutions to fix the touch screen but I don't have the device and I don't have time to do it. Search and you will know. So solve it yourself and thank your self for it.
Ask copvaibhav for more process and using TWRP.
