Play music via USB-C and charge at the same time - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

So here's what I want to do: remember when iPods (with clickwheels) were all the craze and everyone had a speaker dock for their iPod. You would stick your iPod on the dock and it would charge while it played music from speakers. I want to make a dock for my Pixel that sends out audio (3.5mm) and charges it at the same time. The idea is essentially to have a USB-C to to double USB-C splitter (basically impossible to find), into that I would plug a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter and a charger. Probably wouldn't be fast charging, and I'm okay with that.
Would such a thing work?
Is there a better way to do it? I have seen cables that are micro-USB on one side and 3.5mm and USB-A on the other side. That's what I'm going for.
I can't find anything that plugs into USB-C and has 2 USB-C ports on the other side. Do they exist?

The Pixel has both USB C port and 3.5mm headphone jack, no need to invent or look for a splitter.
You can use a standard USB C dock or a plain stand and plug in the charger and the 3.5mm cable.

The whole idea is to make something where I don't have to plug into the phone's 3.5mm jack, like an old iPod dock.

Micro-USB/3.5mm cable?

Is there a cable similar to this for the Epic?
http://www.amazon.com/Charge-Synch-..._1_9?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1284477615&sr=8-9
I'll likely be upgrading from a TP2 next month. One of the main multimedia functions I use my phone for is for listening to podcasts in the car over the stereo's speakers. But obviously you also want to be able to charge it at the same time. And instead of having to fiddle with two cables for this every time it would nice if you could just use one.
I don't think so. The reason the HTC phones had that was because they didn't have a 3.5mm jack on most of their older phones (correct me if I'm wrong about the TP2 but my Vogue required 2 adapters just to get a 3.5mm jack to plug my headphones in).

I had a feeling this probably wasn't available, but I had to ask as I've gotten accustomed to the ease of just plugging one cable in to my TP2.
I'm also not crazy about the USB slot being on the top as that creates some weird docking issues (not only for the car, but also at home.) But it's either this or the Evo and I was much more impressed with the Epic.

TP2 has a 3.5mm jack
The fact that desktop dock only has a micro-USB connection yet has a stereo out jack on the back (even though it doesn't work until 2.2) has me at least hopeful that maybe we'll eventually see a similar style adapter for the Samsungs. Heck, I'm tempted to try just slipping my miniUSC-to-micro-USB converter on my HTC version and seeing if that works.
Of course I don't have the phone yet. And it's not a big deal really as I just like having to only fiddle with one cable in the car.
Belkin Makes an adapter
I bought an ipod adapter that is suposed to convert the ipod style 3.5mm earphone jack with volume control to a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. When plugging standard headphones into my phone it would continue to play sound through the phone speaker, plug this Belkin Headphone adapter in and it seems to work perfectly. It in essence just ends the mic wire from the jack and disables the phone speaker.

Cable to connect to Ipod dock?

There is an IPOD connector on my audio receiver and no available audio jack. Is there a cable with a 3.5mm male and an ipod connector on the other end that would let me play the GS4G through the IPOD connector?
I'm pretty sure ipod docks use a data connection to get music from the ipod. I don't know if they exist but there might be a usb to female ipod adapter out there, if the receiver is smart enough to read any usb device.
I'm also surprised your receiver doesn't have an aux input. My pioneer from the 80s has one that I use for all mp3 players, just using a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Is THIS what your looking for? Here's another one.

[Q] Micro usb + aux cable?

I've been looking for a cable to use in my car with my sII skyrocket for a week or so with no luck thus far. What I want is a single cable solution that plugs into the micro usb port on my phone and provides an aux out as well as usb out so I can charge and listen to my phone through my car. The usb would plug into a usb car charger and the aux out would obviously plug into the aux in on my stereo. I know it's possible to have one cable do this as I've seen docks that have this feature but I have yet to find a cable! I loved being able to easily charge and listen to my iphone with a single cable and hopefully someone knows where I can find one for my galaxy sII. Thank!
Does your car stereo have a regular 3.5 MM audio input? If so, just get a male to male audio cable and run that from your phone's headphone jack to the stereo.
I don't think there is such a cable because the Aux is an input that only take a signal from your device to the stereo, not the other way around. Usually those docks plug into the car lighter and connect to the radio using a specific radio station signal. Like burhanistan said, you should just buy a 3.5mm male to male cable like Retrak or Belkin and get a car lighter adapter for charging.
Yeah that's what I've been using but I would prefer to use a single cable to charge and play music. As you can see in these images the official samsung dock has a pass through auxiliary port with the only input being from the micro usb port so its definitely possible.
I might try and buy one of these and soldering in a micro usb cable to charge simultaneously but the skyrocket isnt listed under the compatible phones. Oh well my search continues...
Yea, sorry bud, the closest thing you're going to get is one of those Radio adapters that has a USB port on it, as well as the 3.5" male end.
I just checked on google for awhile and simply couldn't find anything. You can find these for the iPhone and I've used them, they rocked. Seems like the Skyrocket doesn't support audio out through the usb connector?

yeah would be nice..
Just bought one of these http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Headset-Adapter-to3-5mm-Female/dp/B003W057FS/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
If it works with the skyrocket I'm going to solder in a usb cable as well to charge it at the same time. I'll let you guys know if it works next week.
i too would love something like this. i used the IMP adapter before on my iPOD it was great could charge and listen to music at the same time with only one connector coming out. seemed more clean as far as cabling went.
Well the adapter I bought does not work with my skyrocket... Oh well I guess I'll have to deal with a mess of cables for now

USB-C Charging + Audio cable

So I know that the Pixel XL doesn't suffer from the lack of an audio / headphone jack, but I was curious if anyone has tried to use any USB-C Charging + Audio adapters with their Pixel XL.
My wife has a 2005 FX35 which doesn't have bluetooth in the car, we've tried FM Transmitters in the past and those aren't great. However she has been using a 2.5mm headphone to cassette adapter in her car with her phone which she prefers. So I was thinking maybe there is a way to have her just be able to plug in the USB-C + Audio cable for just 1 cable to plug in vs a USB-C + a separate 2.5mm cable.
That car sounds old enough to be able to replace the CD player without much hassle.
Definitely upgrade the radio. You at least need a AUX input nowadays.
Since I can see you've had such gracious and helpful responses so far, I did some research and it seems that most phones that support USB-C charging+audio adapters don't have aux ports on them. For our phones, most of the adapters won't work unless because the wires usually routed to the aux port are running to the USB-C female port on the phone. While there are some USB-C peripherals that can take audio from our USB-C ports (USB DACs, docks, etc), none of the aux+USB-C adapters I've been able to find online are compatible with our phone and all of them were pretty shoddy.
Unfortunately, I think your wife is going to be stuck using the 2 cord method for a while longer.
My last car was a 2007 Accord without Bluetooth. I purchased a Bluetooth adapter that hooked in to the back of the stock radio. There are similar ones made for the 2003-2008 FX35 if you're willing to spend about $150.

If you're handy with a screwdriver, it's a relatively easy install believe it or not.
It might be worth doing a bit of research because I guess there are different ones depending on if you've got gps or not.
That might be a better long term solution if you're planning on keeping the car for a while longer.

In dire need of a u-angled usb male to female adapter

I have bought myself a Dragonfly DAC/AMP which can be run through the USB output. I would very much like it to not break and as such an adapter that bends behind the phone would be ideal. Does anyone know if such a thing exists, and if yes, where?
Cheers!
