Removing the T-Mobile Jingle at boot - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

If you find the TMO Jingle at boot to be obnoxious like I do, here is the quick way to make it go away.
*Requires root and System to be mounted RW
The file name/path for the jingle is /system/media/audio/ui/PowerOn.ogg - Rename this to PowerOn.ogg.bak (or delete it) and all the obnoxiousness is gone.

Or use the app silent boot. It puts your phone in silent mode when power off or restart is selected so you don't hear the jingle. No root required.

Or just turn system sound all the way down and no more jingle at boot and it also doesn't require root.

What if I want system sounds enabled during use? I'm not going to mute my phone during reboots. This is not a solution. The other replies in the thread are solutions.

would be awesome to customize the sound, but i don't think that's available now, at least not without a custom ROM or something. i just switched mine off and left just the haptic feedback vibrate, sound was getting really annoying.

Now that we have a selection of roms, is it possible to edit audible selection?

First off download or make a custom sound of your choice but, make sure that it's under 2 seconds long & remame it to TW_Touch.ogg Then drag it to your SD card but also make sure your phone is rooted and download (Root Explorer). Once you got Root explorer downloaded open it and go to sdcard & find the sound you wanna use & hold & select copy. Go back once then go to System/media/audio/ui. The default sound you wanna replace is TW_Touch.ogg. Make sure the mount is R/O & just paste & your good to go. Now every time you make a screen selection the sound you chose will be heard. Hope this helps

Inspire only boots into bootloader

My friends inspire will only boot into the bootloader. When I turn the phone it goes straight to the bootloader. The phone does recognize when you plug in a usb cable, but it won't let me scroll through the options. The phone is not rooted nor did he try to root it. It boots into that screen and won't allow you to do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

This is definitely the answer, something might possibly be in between the rocker also, like a small rock that would cause the constant connection for the "down" action that wont allow you do do anything.
It's definitely not rooted. Security is still on and he had no idea what I meant when I asked if he rooted it. The volume rocker being stuck makes sense somewhat. We got the volume rocker to work one time and did a factory reset. After that the volume rocker quit working again. Att said they wouldn't exchange it because their first thoughts were it was tampered with and that he tried to root it. I'm a cell phone repairman. Maybe il just open it up and see if there's something blocking the volume rocker.

Power Save app and Timer & Clock widgets

There is a link to download: http://www.xperiablog.net/
just extract the rar and install each apk.
thanzzzzz for share
Power save app from Xperia Ray is easiest way to turn on/of power save mode.
The timer would be a good app if it alerted you at the end of the countdown
Uninstalled! Clock...Uninstalled! Gonna try the powersave app tonite and see how that works out.
i can't get into the link...can somebody post a direct link to the file please..
nvm..i got it already from here

Well I gave the powersave app a go last nite and its really nothing different than what ive been doing, but it does it all in one shot so im keeping it.
It turns off background data/wifi/animations/gps/bluetooth as well as turns brightness down to 0. I would normally do all that stuff manually (except for animations, which ive always left on) and my battery life is excellent! 2 days on a single charge easy, 3 days once.

How so? I tried it two ways, once with the screen not locked....all it did was flash the start/stop button green, didn't make any audible sound.
Once with the screen locked, it didn't even turn the screen on, make a sound, nothing.

Notification sounds don't shut off

Anyone else have this problem? Can't imagine I'm missing a setting.... Mute generally means mute.

Samsung wants me to send the phone in to fix this but I'm not sure being without a phone for a week or more is worth. Plus, I'm pretty sure if I install a custom ROM this problem will disappear. I'm frustrated, this is a stupid easy problem to fix (with an app) but a BRAND NEW phone should not have this problem to begin with. I wonder if I flashed the stock rom on top of the stock rom (lol) if that would work? Only one other person has this problem?
factory reset should fix your problem.

As a workaround you can choose "Silent" as your Notification sound.
If you only need this functionality at work for example look at Llama that will allow you to configure it very easy.

I've tried Llama before but really didn't look into it too far. Where I work is only about 3 miles from my house so I'm bouncing off the same tower in both places..... Did not work too well with Llama. Can someone check if there volume shows the same as mine when set on mute? The only thing muting is the ring tone. Just curious...

I see the same thing if I set the phone for Silent mode.
There's all different notification sound settings in this phone, I've noticed - my email accounts have their own notification settings per account, messaging has its setting, etc.
Maybe Silent mode primarily silences ringtones and doesn't prevent separate apps from making sounds? Which types of notifications continue to make sounds?
- ooofest
All of them. Anything not set to silent (email, text, messaging, etc) makes a audible notification when the phone is set on mute. Also, when my phone is set on vibrate I also have audible notifications.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
From the User Manual, pg 124:
Use Silent modes to temporarily silence the sounds your
phone makes, except for media playback and alarms, or
replace them with vibration.

So, it doesn't seem to claim affecting your sounds beyond the ringer and maybe keypad noises or similar. Working as designed, it seems (not that I agree with their design, in this case).
- ooofest
To me that means it should silence notifications since it's not "media" or "alarm"? I'm just going to buy sound manager since it has more options anyway..... $2.99 to end my frustration with this

I would classify "alarm" as notifications, in trying to interpret their jargon for the context given.
Yeah, an app which can configure sounds across all your apps and settings seems best, here.

Appreciate you looking that up in the manual. I actually downloaded it after your post . I bought the app and set my work and mute profiles... Nice app. I know this is stupid thing to worry about but it gets frustrating when I get woke up or a notification goes off during a meeting. Silent on the sound manager app silences everything.

(Mod) Enable/Disable shutter sound option in camera (how to)

I used and found this mod in the Sprints Galaxy S3 forum. I did not see this posted here so I wanted to share this. I take no credit for this. This was done by Freeza and by s3.Zeke.
What you have to do is use an app like root explorer and change the following lines in /system/csc/feature.xml
Edit the following:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Change the "false" to true. Save the changes and exit.
Reboot your phone and now you can toggle if you want shutter sound in options.
Remember you have to reboot your phone or it will not show up.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
An easier way, for me was:
Open Root Explorer
Navigate to System>media>audio>ui
Mount R/W
Scroll down to 'Shutter.ogg'
Rename to 'Shutter.ogg.bak'
Profit!
I've done this on both stock and Beans B14. I haven't tried it on AOSP, so the file structure may be different, but the idea is the same. (The file was called 'Camera_shutter.ogg' on the Thunderbolt.)

While this idea turns the sound off, you have to go through all the steps to change it every time. The OP's way allows you to toggle it on and off inside the camera's options. So you wouldn't need to go through all the steps every time you want to turn it on or off.

That's crazy. So Verizon actually removed that option with the update? I can't even think of anyway that would benefit them. I can confirm the T-Mobile version still has it on the latest update. Bizarre.

Its not a matter of benefit its a matter of perverts taking pictures and video with no one knowing. Its actually illegal in some states to disable the sound due to these retards that cant get their own woman and have to take pictures and video home to their computers to wack it too.

Thanks for this, works great on MA2! Just a note, make sure you properly set permissions of the saved feature.xml file. ES typically created a backup of the original file, and doesn't properly set permissions on the new edit, and this mid won't work until you correct that.
