[Discussion] WhatsApp is testing a clone of Snapchat Stories, called Status? - Android General

Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp is experimenting with a new Status feature that lets users share mood-setting pictures and videos overlaid with other custom elements such as emoji, with the content disappearing 24 hours after it’s shared — so basically a copy of Snapchat Stories.
In the Android version of the beta the main WhatsApp message screen now has a tab called ‘Status’, sitting between ‘Chats’ on the left and ‘Calls’ on the right. And while it’s always been possible to set a status message in WhatsApp, which is visible when someone views your profile, the new Status tab does not replace that traditional status message; rather it’s a whole additional channel aimed at encouraging users to share ephemeral and primarily visual content with their friends.
As with Snapchat Stories, once a user has snapped a photo or recorded a video to share within this channel they are offered a range of editing tools to augment the content — such as by drawing on a colorful scribble or adding and positioning emoji. Status also lets users add a caption to further explain whatever they’re posting. A send button shares the Status with the user’s WhatsApp contacts.
The beta app shares Status content for 24 hours, according to BGR, with no way for users to manually delete a Status after they’ve shared it at this point, nor set a longer (or shorter) lifespan for the content. Users are able to specify which of their contacts can receive Status updates — either by selecting a handful manually or choosing all and excluding a few manually (or indeed selecting all contacts to spam everyone with all Status content).
What do you guys think of this feature

@babanasor
Please update it when available. Nice Info :good:
Once it released we see what modifications can be done

Because I've always wanted pop-up ads on my phone!!
I tried it for about 5 minutes.
I received a 'new message notification' that turned out to be an advertisement to try some product, and I immediately removed the application. I understand the merits--as well as the downsides--of ad-based products, but getting advertisements as pop-up notifications on my mobile phone sucks!
thanks 4 letting us know about it mate
You know, I find that it works just as well to just change your email notification settings on facebook. This way, you'll get an email alert when people comment on photos (for example).
Windows Mobile gives you a popup notification of the new email, and then you accomplish exactly the same thing as FriendMobilizer promises, without adding an extra app

Developer Notes
Social Notification is my first Android app. I learned to develop for Android while creating a concept, which became Social Notification.
I'm one of those guys who tweet 100 times per day, so I wanted a way to post to twitter without leaving the app I'm currently using. That was the motivation behind Social Notification. After starting the development, I found it would be nice to have an option to share with any other app, not only directly to twitter. I hope Social Notification saves your time just like it saves mine!
Known Issues
-In some cases the friends list (people you follow) is not complete. It looks like an issue of Twitter4j or TwitterAPI, and I'm investigating it
Libraries used
-Twitter4j

[APP] [5.0+] Notification Diary, intelligent notification manager

Hi, my first post so let me know if I break any rules etc I was told by long-term members of this community that posting here would be a great opportunity to gain insights and feedback on applications.
We are researchers from University of Oulu and collaborate world-wide with other researchers in Human Computer Interaction. We have developed an application to intelligently hide unimportant notifications called Notification Diary.
The application relies on user-labeled training data and verification of predictions and uses machine learning and semantic analysis to analyse your notifications. We collect anonymised data from the application for research purposes - namely to understand how users interact with their notifications, how they perceive notifications' importance and finally how accurately we can create intelligent methods to prevent user from being needlessly distracted by incoming notifications.
The application is available in PlayStore : Notification Diary by Aku Visuri
We already have some core users contribution to our studies but would appreciate any extra contributions and feedback on the application. The application uses some permissions (e.g. location using hashed geofences, accessibility service to log foreground applications) to understand the situations where notifications are received and if these impact whether certain content is found important or unimportant, and e.g. calls permission to detect incoming calls. The application also requires access to notifications to read incoming notifications and manage (cancel) existing notifications. The application can read notification contents, and this information is stored only locally on your device and never uploaded. The application uses the AWARE framework to log and sync data.
So if you think this aspect of smartphone use is interesting and helpful to users, and would like to both help us as researchers or simply see how our application could be of use to you personally, please feel free to download it, use it, and reply here or PM me if you have any questions regarding the application.
We also have some questions for anyone interested in this project, and again would of course appreciate any time spent using the application.
Do you use any notification management tools? If yes, which, and how efficient do you believe them to be? And if yes, are there any downsides to the methods you are using?
tl;dr: We created an application called Notification Diary to intelligently hide unimportant notifications and would like to receive feedback on the application.

ShareNŌTZ - Share and collaborate notes and lists ...

ShareNŌTZ is a new Android app (4.4+) that is simple enough that you can start entering notes and lists within seconds of installing.
It's powerful enough to keep everything synchronized between all your Android devices.
Download it at the Play Store
And if you wish, you can easily share specific notebooks and all the notes they contain with your friends and colleagues with its powerful mobile collaboration features. Everyone you share a notebook with can then view your notes and add their own. And if there are any checklists, everyone can check, uncheck, and add items to those lists.
Imagine something as simple as a grocery list. Just share your notebook with your significant other, and as you're both shopping in different stores, every item you check off will automatically be checked off on the other device. Every new item you add will show up automatically for everyone else you've shared with.
Many note taking apps allow you to share a note via text message, email, etc.. But ShareNŌTZ offers true collaboration ... in real time!
That's what ShareNŌTZ can do.
Notes, Lists, Photos, Synchronize, Collaborate.
Give it a try!
